I just arrived from DC to eat something fast and healthy, someone suggested HI Poke. It was close to my hotel and I was surprised that no one was here. The service was great and the selection was great as well. I ordered the build your own and 3 proteins was standard as part of the menu. I love the fresh taste of all the ingredients. The mistake I had was ordering the brown rice instead of the white rice. I forgot that brown rice is a bit chewy but the server provided me with additional white rice to compensate. We found this place while we were shopping at Seaport and it was such a hidden gem - we almost missed it! We walked in and the place was open, bright, and clean. I agree with some of the other reviews that the customer flow seemed slow, but overall the food was solid. On slower days it would go a long way to be more generous with portions, and it would keep the food moving/customers happy. The poke in my bowl was fresh and flavorful, which I really appreciated. The service and cleanliness were just average, nothing standout but not terrible either. Overall, I think this spot has a good foundation. With a little more consistency, I hope they build up volume and stick around because the fresh poke makes it worth coming back. read more

Hi Poke is a small poke joint in the Seaport Village. The menu features a number of different prescribed poke bowls as well as a PYOP (pick your own poke). The drinks feature a lot of Hawaiin Sun canned drinks. A few tables indoors and a few outdoors. I had the Lave poke and it was very good. Not particularly spicy. The poke was fresh and there was a good helping of fresh and pickled vegetables. Overall the serving size was a little smallish. We were there a bit early for lunch so we were the only customers. My friend invited me to try Hi Poke in Downtown San Diego. I had the Scallop Dynamite, which is baked, and I loved the ingredient options, especially the edamame, seaweed, crab, onions, and more! There are plenty of tables and seating both inside and outside, which is nice.The staff is friendly, and the place itself is pretty good.The only downside is that the bathroom is quite far, you have to walk to the Jail Museum and ask for the code. But on the bright side, it's a great spot to explore! Just a heads-up, parking always comes with a fee (it's downtown, after all, haha). read more

I know my way around a good poke bowl and while everything tasted okay the fish kinda tasted a little off, not rancid or expired but just a little off. The rice was fresh and soft but the pineapple was frozen. The interior had a good amount of seating but most tables were noticeably dirty. The serving sizes were well packed but the price was steep for what it was. A regular poke bowl with 3 proteins and avocado plus 1 canned juice left me at $27! read more

They had one employee working during the lunch hour rush, so there was a very long line and it took 30+ minutes to get my bowl. They need to work on staffing correctly for the lunch hour rush. read more

I was attending a research meeting at a nearby hotel and it was raining like crazy in typically sunny San Diego so I needed a nearby place ideally outside the giant hotel I'm stuck in all day. Hi Poki was hidden in the far back corner of a half deserted shopping area ironically surrounding a former historical prison. Tables outside were drenched so I had to eat inside at a table with a red (not clean) cloth tablecloth covering it. Place was empty and I ordered a do it yourself Poki bowl for $20 plus tax ($22). It was underwhelming. Mostly brown rice and some limited greens with three itty bitty scoops of fish. The sauces were a little too sweet for me and since the bowl was kinda small once you added the toppings and crunchy stuff a little hard to mix it up and dive in without spilling it all on that red tablecloth. That was a first time for me and an automatic red flag so I passed on ordering anything for myself. My daughter was really hungry so she requested for a little more rice and the gal said no it was only the one scoop which was like the size an ice cream scoop. That was another first for us... we've never had an experience where they'll decline a request for a little more rice. It's not like she even offered to charge us more for the rice... When I walked in, no one is there and I should have turned away from this place. Since we saw a lot of good reviews, we decide just to try it out. I was considering order a scallops dynamite, which has baked scallops, to share with my 2 year old. I asked if I can remove the mayo from scallops dynamite because my 2 year old can not take any spice and also told we want the food to be cooked. The waiter responded their spicy mayo is not spicy. I was like okay. Then I just got the scallops dynamitc. When we got the bowl, the mayo is too spicy for my daughter and half of the scallops was not cooked. My daughter just went hungry stomach. Not good for those with digestive issues. Each bite had hard rice and it ruined the poke. Not that the fish was great either. The seafood was underwhelming and I couldn't really differentiate the Hi Poke Sauce from regular soy sauce - read soy sauce had more flavour. All this for $20. Not cheap for dealing with par-cooked rice. My mistake for imagining that a poke place outside of Convoy would deliver. Maybe it was just a bad day and the rice cooker wasn't working or someone opened the rice cooker before rice was fully cooked. Sadness. Service was good and location was also nice, walkable from the Embarcadero and the USS Midway and that's the two stars. Got hungry after strolling through Seaport Village nearby so had to check out this poke place! I haven't had poke in a long time and this spot satisfied the cravings. I got the #1 classic ahi tuna bowl because I didn't feel like picking my own (definitely recommend you make your own bowl!) with half brown rice, half greens, medium spicy, and added some extra toppings. The poke bowl is sizeable and delicious! I don't have the best spice tolerance and medium spicy level was a little too much for me but still manageable and yummy. I enjoyed how light, fresh, and filling it is and only knocking off one star because it is on the pricier side coming at over $20 after tax and tip. The ambiance is great and it's in a shopping plaza which is currently beautifully decorated for the holidays. Yes, other Yelpers are right, portions are considerably smaller than other Poki shops, BUT considering the location I'm sure their overhead is pretty high. Quality ingredients! Really like that my tuna and salmon weren't glowing like other places with larger portions from food coloring. I'm particularly sensitive to fish that's turning and this was super fresh! I say it's worth it! Consider the location & quality before you dock them for the price. They also have a rewards program so make sure to sign up if you're local. I believe when they first opened, the price was $10.75. Poke burritos were also available too at that time. You get three scoops of protein in a bowl which is not the best in terms of value. I've seen that quantity offered at prices south of $10 with a similar quality of seafood. For the PYOP (Pick Your Own Poke) Bowl, my three picks were salmon, tuna, and albacore to go along with all the standard toppings and base of white rice. Spicy mayo was my choice of sauce. The creamy zest from the mayo really enhanced the flavors of the bowl contents. What I did find unique on the menu was the warm bowls (chicken, eel, scallop dynamite, baked tofu). Those were nice choices as an alternative to raw fish as the protein. Overall, I gave this place a three star rating for my experience. read more
