Customer service and professionalism matter just as much as the service itself. I've been coming here since 2021 because the owner is talented, and I've always supported her business. That's why it was so disappointing and surprising how I was treated during my most recent visit. From the moment I walked in, she yelled across the shop for me to get in her chair. I was the only customer in the store, yet she spoke to me as if I was holding up a line that didn't even exist, completely unnecessary and unprofessional. The rest of the appointment felt rushed. She then walked me to the front asking if I was paying cash or Venmo, and I only realized after leaving that she didn't even complete my other eyebrow. At that point, the experience had already been so uncomfortable that it honestly didn't feel worth going back inside to have it fixed. I'm sharing this review as a loyal customer because I want her to know how this kind of behavior affects the business. She is clearly talented, but her attitude during this visit completely ruined my experience. My one star review is based strictly on the customer service. I have been coming here for years, and there used to be three or four people who did eyebrows. Now there is only one lady. She does excellent work on my eyebrows, and I would give her five stars for her skills alone. Unfortunately, her customer service is very disappointing. She is consistently rude whenever I come into the shop. I have continued to come back because she does my eyebrows so well, but her attitude has always been difficult to deal with. During my most recent visit, I went to pay with my debit card as I have always done in the past. She responded in a very nasty tone that she only accepts Venmo/cash, as if that has always been the policy. If Venmo/cash is now the only accepted form of payment, there should be a sign on the door to inform customers ahead of time. Her tone, body language, and facial expressions are often unpleasant. She also has a very short temper. If you do not hold your hand over your brow exactly the way she prefers the first time, she becomes visibly upset. The overall experience has become too stressful and uncomfortable. I have decided that I will not be returning. read more

my favorite eyebrow place in San Diego!!! i usually just get my brows threaded here and they always come out perfect. The last time I came I was given a lamination, threading and tinting service, after a few days when the tint toned down a bit the brows looked amazing and the lamination made them so manageable. But today I was not only uncomfortable but frustrated by the horrible service that was given. Rolling her eyes, deep breaths, not taking anytime to show she cares for her customers who were waiting. Never had a problem here and they are good with shaping. Staff are super sweet and inviting. I never get an odd look or comments because I walk in and I'm not typically their clientele they serve. The place is clean and organized. Prices are fair. It's not their fault but the location sucks though. I've been a loyal customer of this brow salon for over five years and have always received great service--until my most recent visit. When I arrived at the salon, it appeared that only one employee was working. As soon as I walked in, she immediately told me, "Sorry, we're closed." Since it was still early, I politely asked, "Oh, what time do you close?" In the past, I've always come after work and made it just in time before closing at 6 p.m. She then told me, "We close at 5." I checked my phone, and it was 4:50 p.m., so I mentioned that to her. She pointed to another client who seemed to still be waiting and said, "But I have to do her still." I was confused and honestly a bit disappointed because I've never been turned away here before. It felt as though she simply wanted to leave early rather than follow the posted hours. If the business closes at 5, customers should be welcomed until that time, not refused service beforehand--it doesn't reflect well on the establishment. I truly hope this issue is addressed and that additional staffing is considered so customers aren't turned away unnecessarily. I've always enjoyed coming here, and I would love to continue doing so, but if this becomes a recurring issue, I may have to reconsider. read more

I've been coming here for a few months with good results, but the treatment I just received today will guarantee that I won't return. I don't know what the problem was with the woman who performed my service today, but she was harsh, aggressive, and rude. She was unnecessarily rough during my service when services with her in the past were gentle and friendly. She was abrupt and cold in her interaction with me and I don't expect anyone to perform some overdone level of niceness on the job, but a basic level of human decency is expected and she couldn't be bothered. I was in tears on the way home from both the physical pain and the terrible interpersonal treatment. Such a shame. Update: in response to the owner, no, my service was not performed with care; it was harsh and abrasive, as I originally stated. There was even another person there who asked me afterward whether the threader was angry because they noticed that my threading had been done quite "aggressively," in their words. Wait Time - Go in and sign your name on the paper list. There's normally a wait- could be anywhere between 15-40 minutes. You wait outside until they call you in to sit- only 6 waiting chairs inside. Typically 2-3 gals working including the owner Ayesha. You can pay $30-45 for an appointment to not wait. Eyebrow Threading ($15) - I've had my brows threaded by Ayesha and other gals. I think they all do a great job. If you have a specific want with your eyebrows like if you want more shape you can ask for it, no problem! Overall, I have always enjoyed my experience at Aaliyah's and would recommend them for anyone who wants their eyebrows threaded. Definitely worth the wait. Had signed in around 12pm on a Sunday, was out around 1pm. Overall the wait time and service took about an hour combined which is new to me. I was very impressed with my brows and appreciate that she takes her time with every client. Since they only allow a certain amount of guests inside, be prepared to wait outside if long wait list. Brows were $20 and I think worth it. You pay for what you get! Haven't tried anywhere else in SD but will likely keep going here. Decent parking lot and easy to find. The owner has also trained the staff to thread brows in her excellent way and give the same level of care and attention to detail. Sometimes you go to a brow threading place- you have to book with the SAME person every time to get the same results. I won't deny that this place delivers good quality threading. However, I have to decrease to 3 stars because the price has gone up significantly and the wait time has doubled over the last 2 years. Eyebrows are now $14.. 4 dollars more than when I started coming here. I have come to this location first thing when they open.. other people have the same idea, so there's a wait. I have come in the afternoon probably everyday of the week.. there's a wait. There is no reservation system here so I am stuck wasting my time waiting! A reservation system would solve all of this chaos. Yes I'm aware there is a wait because the service here is pretty good. I ended up leaving one day because the wait was just too long. I researched threading places in the area and found one that takes reservations, is cheaper, and has a bigger parking lot. I've been coming here for about 6 months now and let me tell you, I leave with the best brows every single time. Over the years I've had so many people botch my brows, make them uneven, completely different shapes, irritate my skin, but this place completely fixed my shape. On my first visit I was greeted by the man up front, I forget his name, but he was super kind! When I was seated I asked the technician, "is there anyway you can make my brows even? This review is way overdue. This place has a super cute, clean aesthetic with a small waiting area, and free lot parking. The service was excellent-I walked in midday on a weekend and immediately was sat down to get my brows done. I did not catch the name of the woman who did my brows, but she was a total pro and nailed exactly what I asked for. She was super quick while threading, but I could tell she was still careful with how she was shaping, and she would go back and forth between brows to even them out. My brows looked great and I was SO happy with them because she made them fit my face perfectly rather than do the cookie cutter approach. This is going to become my regular spot when I come down from LA because the brow work is great! I did not have enough cash on me so I paid by credit card and was so embarrassed because I totally forgot that when paying by card, you have to plug in the tip before finishing the transaction. So I am definitely double tipping next time because the service + results were amazing! read more

I highly recommend this place for eyebrow threading! This is a hidden gem in Hillcrest that has amazing service. The place is decorated really nicely and has calming music playing in the background. I like how they had a sign-up list when you walked in to keep track of customers and their services. The owner did my threading and asked how I liked my eyebrows during the middle and end of the session. I was very impressed by her thoroughness and attentiveness. I've been going to Aaliyah for two years now and while I love their service and overall ambience, I would say I have to find a new eyebrow thread place from now on as they have raised their price to $20 for regular eyebrow thread...crazy expensive.
