I've been torn (literally) on whether or not to review this business. The interior of The Undercarriage is VERY cute. Very French, vintage, and feminine. Malinda, the owner, is very warm and friendly, and offered me a glass of wine - much appreciated, considering what was about to take place. Also nice is that they have "Classy Wednesdays," when you get 20% off of your service between 2pm and 7pm. I went in for a Brazilian. Never pleasant, but this time was exceptionally painful. Don't get me wrong, Malinda made me feel very comfortable, but the waxing technique wasn't the best. This time left me nearly screaming. And unlike any other time, the pain was still lingering days later. And, I thought this was a Brazilian waxing urban myth - but her preferred method for getting the backside is to have the client on all fours. The job was done pretty well, but wasn't as thorough as I've had at other places, and for the amount of pain I endured, it should have been perfect! Overall, I wouldn't recommend. read more

I'm getting married on Saturday and I decided to suck it up and just get a Brazilian. I looked at a lot of places on yelp and other places closer to me with 5 stars had no appointments available for today. Then I saw 5 star reviews for the undercarriage in north park. It's not close to where I live, but scheduling an appointment online made it so easy that I decided to give it a shot. Malinda was very nice and welcoming and made a very uncomfortable situation as comfortable as it could be. This was my very first time and I was extremely scared about the pain. It only really hurt twice and the rest wasn't bad at all. I liked that she did it quick and didn't give me time to anticipate the pain. I was done in 15 minutes or so and got a discount for my first time. I will most likely be back (only downfall is that it is far from where I live but that's not her fault). I love Malinda and I love my wax! Went to the North Park location as a first time client today and I'm very impressed. I've been waxing for years but have never had such a smooth and perfect end product. Perfect! Did I mention it's perfect? I have been going to another waxing salon and felt it was time for something new (I've had quite a few missed spots the last few times I went to my old place and had to do some clean up at home - something I don't feel I should have to deal with). Malinda is the best. BEST! I have been going to her for years and have happily followed her when she changed locations. I am Spanish and Lebanese as such my brows are no joke. Malinda gets them into a perfect arch every single time. She waxes plucks trims and shapes until they are just right. That is solid gold. Big fan of The Undercarriage after just my first visit! I went in for an underarm and lip wax before my wedding. Being extremely frugal (read cheap), I never could justify spending money for something I figured I could do at home. But after my professional waxing with Malinda, I'm officially converted. No more heating up old wax in the kitchen and ripping at my underarms in the bathroom mirror! Malinda was so friendly and made me feel right at home. We chatted the whole way through my waxing which felt like I was catching up with a friend -- except over my armpits rather than over coffee... Also, this wax job lasted much longer than my shoddy at-home attempts (I had smooth pits my whole honeymoon and then some!), and the regrowth was super soft and easy to maintain for a bit longer with a pair of tweezers and a magnified mirror. Maybe soon I'll muster up the courage to ditch the razor and let Malinda work her magic on a Brazilian. read more

I've been to both locations, and had great experiences each time.The North Park one is about a minute's walk from my apartment, so it's happily my first choice. Price and service cannot be beat (I'm not into nail salon eyebrow waxes), for someone who has done this for years, is great at it, and has a cute, sanitary place. I have a great shape on my eyebrows again. Can book appointments online which is a huge plus as I hate playing phone tag. Parking might not be right in front of the place, but maybe a 3 minute walk. First off, Malinda is lovely, and the location is straight-up charming. But...I don't plan on going back. I live in the Bay Area, travel to LA for work weekly, and the love of my life lives in North Park. So I get waxed when and where I can fit it in, but I do have my go-to estheticians in each locale. I tried The Undercarriage because (a.) it's a lot closer to where my BF lives than my usual wax place in North Park, and (b.) with a name like that, how can you not?! I'm no stranger to the Brazilian. We go back like spinal cords and car seats (H/T 30 Rock). And through the years, I've encountered many estheticians who pride themselves on speed. The whole "rip rip, boom, you're done" seems to be a value prop for them. Well, it's not for me. And unfortunately, speed is Malinda's M.O. I prefer the pull-and-apply-pressure technique. Sure, it's slower, but it's also more soothing. And she didn't take the time to tweeze stubborn straggler hairs like my other estheticians do. I'm glad I gave it a shot. It reaffirmed that where I currently get waxed in North Park is worth the extra travel time. read more

I just switched over to the Undercarriage, because my previous waxer moved to South Park (I know it's not that far, but I like to walk and keep it local when possible). The Undercarriage is just a couple of blocks from my house so I decided to give it a try. I was trying to decide between this spot and Le Wax Boutique, but the reviews (and unprofessional responses from the manager) made my decision for me. Happily for me it was the right one! She did an excellent job on shaping my brows and was super friendly. Malinda's an excellent, experienced waxer. I met her over 12 years ago when she was working at a spa in Mission Valley. She has always managed to make my brows (which grow in unevenly) look shapely without doing them too thin. And as far as the bikini waxing goes she's the only person I've ever had do it. I have gone to The Undercarriage for over a year now. Would not dream of going anywhere else to get my brows or brazillian done. After reading the reviews written about other neighborhood waxing boutiques (which all sound pretty horrifying), I decided to write a screamin' review for my favorite waxing establishment. Malinda makes a girl feel comfortable with her friendly, sweet and easy going personality. She takes great and gentle care with my super sensitive skin. I have never had a burn or any issues at this establishment and am back to normal within an hour or two after my appointment. Trust me girls (& boys) this is the best place to be waxed in North Park.
