Took my son out to celebrate his promotion and let's just say I'm so glad he chose this place to dine at. We have been living in this area for over 20 yrs and I'm ashamed to say this has been my 1st time stepping a foot into this establishment. It was a Thursday night and we were the only people in the restaurant and that had me a little worried but that quickly changed after they brought the complementary snacks to the table. Not sure of the names of the items but let me say all 3 toppings were delicious as well as the cracker. One was sweet one was spicy and then there were some peppers. We ordered the lamb samosas and omg they were delicious right along with the Papri Chaat. I will be honest I was not sure what to order but I went with the combo mix and asked for a sauce on the side that's not spicy. I asked the owner for his recommendation on which bread to choose and he said the garlic naan and what a great choice. I'm not sure what my son ordered but it was a chicken dish and he said it was phenomenal. I honestly can't wait to return and try other dishes. Aamantran is in the Top 3 restaurants I've ever been to. Certainly the best Indian food I've ever come across. There's even an intimate glass-bubble, like a window, where naans and other breads are crafted in front of you by a master of his craft. I have passed this restaurant many many times on the way to my In-Laws house in TR, and have been wanting to try it for ages. This past Friday 4/8, hubby and I finally went for our date night dinner, and we were not disappointed!! First, the staff is so warm and welcoming, water right away to the table and nice little basket of bread with the usual sauces to taste. We both ordered the Mango Lassi, which was refreshing and delicious. We order 3 appetizers, the Veggie Samosas, Aloo Chaat and Tawa Murgh, all three were very tasty and definitely got our taste buds excited for our entrees. For our entrees I ordered the Rogan Josh, which was very nice, the lamb was tender and seasonings/spice was perfect. Hubby ordered the Murgh Tikka Lazziz, he really enjoyed this dish. Although the dishes each came with traditional rice, we also ordered the garlic rice, which we both really preferred, and the Aamantran bread basket, which for us was a fantastic idea of trying new breads, Naan, Roti, Onion & Garlic Kulcha. There was quite a bit of food so we obviously couldnt eat it all, and neither of us had room for dessert, and it was nice to have leftovers for my lunch the next day. I have read some of the other reviews and I can't say that I had a bad exerience here, I eat quite a bit of Indian food and I have had both exceptional and down right horrendous experiences. Aamantran is nice small family owned restaurant with a menu that anyone can find something they will like, again, staff was super friendly and made our evening our enjoyable and the food was very good. I've been eating Indian food for 20 years now across the USA. I live in Media PA (Phila suburb) now but was visiting family in Beachwood and thought we'd try the only Indian restaurant in the area. The only reason this place is surviving is that locals do not know what good Indian food is. The disappointing part was the quality and quantity of the food. Price is easily $4-$5 higher than it should be per entree.. The only reason I believe they can get this price in Toms River is due to the lack of close competition and carryover of Pandemic price gouging. They are higher than most Philadelphia Indian restaurants. Are you kidding me? Even the quality was poor on the Vegan curries. Very little actual substance. A lot of sauce but few vegetables. The location is sandwiched between 2 Dunkin Donuts and location wise shouldn't demand the prices they do. Overall disappointment. Will never be back. Id rate 3* as my niece and her fiancée enjoyed their Chicken Tikka Masala and Chicken Korma dishes. However the blatant rip off drops it to 1* The rice was barely enough for 4 people. To add insult to injury they charge a 4% surcharge for using credit cards! 4%! There are very few merchant processors charging 4% if you have decent volume. They are making profit off the surcharge! I only bought an entree, one samosa appetizer and two Nan breads. Somehow I think I was ripped off. Their loss . Had I loved this place, I would have been back several times a week and told all 5000 FB friends about it. But now I won't be back. So I hope it was worth ripping me off on the prices. This is a nice Indian Restaurant in Tom's Fiver area where food is very good and service is excellent. We usually order Chicken Tikka Marsala (it has a different name on the menu) and Chicken Curry (also under a different name). The food is always great although portions are somewhat smaller than in other Indian Restaurants that we frequent, We also love their onion chutney since other restaurants do not have them. However, chutney comes in such small containers (like a liquor shot) that we always end up asking for more. Naan is also very good in this restaurant and they have a Naan backet that you can order to try different ones. However, it will set you back by about $13 for the Naan basket. Single serving of Naan is $4. Overall, the restaurant is very good but on a bit of a pricey side considering the portion sizes and anything you add to your main meal. read more

Unfortunately, my order was missing 3 items, which DoorDash was kind enough to refund for me. Here's the review for the rest: The Raita: taste was a touch bland but the consistency was so watery that it was off-putting. Murgh Tikka: most of the sauce was spilled out when I received it, it was a rather modest serving, with no rice, but tasted alright. Not something I would order again, but not terrible. Garlic Naan: would have been delicious if fresh. They definitely used salted butter which is awesome! But the naan itself was rubbery and cold. I didn't do any research and just ordered, so it's totally on me. But after reading how the owners respond to negative reviews, it's apparent they are not interested in building rapport or anything other than positive feedback. This place is legit, and it has nothing to do with the limited number of Indian restaurants. Needs to be remodeled, but that also adds to the charm. It is a BYOB, so right off you are getting your bottle of wine for $10 or so, compared with $30 or so in a restaurant where you pay for wine. Ambiance is good. Service is very good. Food is great. They give you papadum and sauces to start. Then we had vegetable samosas, then Lamb Daalcha and Baignan Bharta (eggplant) with some bread (nan and paratha) and, of course, they give rice. Sad to say I won't return. After placing an order online, a man called from the restaurant and berated me for ordering through what I mistakenly thought was their system. It was a third party, but accessible through their website. He told me not to cancel that order (which I suggested to do so I could order direct from him), and that he would discount my bill "about eight dollars" when I arrived for pick up so the total would be closer to their normal prices. He then insisted on a credit card to process my order, though I wanted to pay cash as I had indicated online. He said I could pay cash when I arrived, again for a discount, but he needed a credit card. Fine. I arrived about five minutes after my scheduled pick up time, and the food was ready to go. I was told to wait five minutes for whomever it was that could take payments so I could pay cash. Evidently the three employees I saw were not able to take payments. I waited, but they didn't come, and I left after about seven minutes because I had about 35 minutes to drive with the food. They (of course) charged my card, which is how I found out they add a surcharge for using credit. So was I kept waiting so they could make a little more money on an already pricey meal? I called to question the amount and was told the notice about the surcharge was on the front door, but not at the point of sale or verbalized by any employee. And again, I wanted to pay cash from the get go. They offered a credit over the phone to encourage my return, but it's a few weeks later and no credit was issued. I'm disappointed, but there are better options closer to home and no reason to return here except nostalgia and habit. read more

We love about 30 min away and this is the closest place to us so we decided to give it a try. $90 later for two people (2 entrees; almost indiscernible from each other, 2 orders of garlic naan, two desserts and one side sauce). The portions are SMALL. We've eaten Indian all over the state and every experience (save this one) has been friendly and welcoming, with large portions and amazing flavors. Even the rice is is plain. Aamantran is the nearest Indian restaurant to a Hindu temple which I was visiting with a big group. They could accommodate all 52 of us. We had a side room exclusively for us. Some of the group members wanted more space and the restaurant was ok with them using the bigger room. Since most of the group was vegetarian, they prepared a vegetarian buffet for us. We got hot fresh naan on the table. Restaurant was short staffed so members of our group were helping with serving. We had daal, vegetable makhani, baingan bhartha, gajar halwa and pakora. Big restaurant snd nice menu. No buffet lunch (due to COVID I think), but ordered some very typical items and was very pleased. Chicken Tikka Masala, Murgh Vindaloo, saag Paneer and naan. I went to this nice restaurant with my family to celebrate my son's birthday (he loves Indian food). The outside is nothing special as it's in a strip mall. Inside was much nicer. We all had a great experience. We found the service excellent and the food delicious and served very hot. We began with veg samosas for appetizers. We also ordered a bread basket that included naan, roti and two kinds of kulcha. All very tasty. I enjoyed my entree of gosht pasanda- lamb in a cashew cream sauce. The lamb was tender and the sauce was rich and creamy. It paired well not only with the basmati rice, but also with the roti. My family all enjoyed their entrees. My son is vegetarian, so the menu was fantastic for him with so many options. He had the balti bhindi. The others had gosht daalcha and murgh korma.
