It took 10 minutes for them to acknowledge we were there, 30 minutes to get an appetizer and one hour from when we sat down to get our meal and that was only when we complained about the wait. Food was terrible. Egg rolls more like spring rolls, tiny. The chicken fried rice was white rice with onions and a few shreds of chicken. Absolutely no flavor. It's Chinese food. Nothing crazy to write home about. So you only get 3 stars because of that. What I don't get is why are they always late on making there food. I never have to wait for more than 15 min at any other Chinese place, but here they say 20 and mean 60. Every time. It's sad because they are the only ones in the area. By far the best Chinese in the area. Consistent, kind and yummy. Our order never really changes but when we have family visiting and they order something different they also love it. We've only done takeout so can't speak on dining in. Love their orange chicken, beef and broccoli, hunan chicken and fried rice. This is one of the best Chinese restaurants in the area! I ordered the Roast Pork Egg Foo Young and instead of the thick brown gravy that usually comes with it they make a thick garlic sauce and it was definitely delicious! I will definitely be ordering from here again soon! read more

I have been to Great Wok many times for many years. Usually their food is pretty good. Years ago we ordered spareribs and expressed to the waitress to make sure they are not burnt & dried out. Of course they came out that way. 2 of us returned them. The lady (I suppose was the owner)came out reprimanding us and embarrassing us about returning the spareribs! She told us not to come back! We did not until years later. I figured they must have had enough returned that they would have improved them by now. Unfortunately I tried them one more time. I told the waitress to make sure they are not burnt or dried out, relayed the story from years ago and off she went. When my ribs came out they were pitch black. I even noticed that one very small pc. had very disgusting rainbow colored meat showing in one area. I guess even the flames couldn't kill that! I never buy meat that looks like that from a store. I wasn't going to eat this!!! I waited for the waitress to come back and asked her why they were so burnt when I asked that they not be served that way. I gave them back to her & told her to show the owner and tell her what I requested. After a while she came back, the other woman stayed behind but watched us. The waitress said, "They are always like that!" Knowing that I asked politely about the way I didn't want them, why couldn't she have told me that when I ordered? I lost my appetite from that fiasco and had some soup and some rice for dinner and then we left. Even if the owner gave me a credit or a deduction or something....very poor PR. Well I know NEVER to order spare ribs from them! I hope no one orders them so they will get the message!!! They do not deserve any star ratings but I had to select one. read more

The menu is odd, and service sucks. Compared to other places which will bend over backwards to accomodate, I find them to be argumentative and inflexible. They are willing to throw away customers very quickly, rather than do simple things to get many happy return$$$. Expect to pay a surcharge for any dietary adaptions. Additionally, expect to be told sauce they forgot to give you didn't come with it, rather than be offered an apology (when it does come with it), and expect to get yelled at when they couldn't find your door. Poor, poor, attitude here. The ingredients in standard dishes are not standard. Garlic sauce should have broccoli, not celery! The menu has no rhyme or reason which items are available in pints or combos - except that they want to force you to buy more than you need for extra cost. The menu needs help, it is all over the place. Space is wasted on repetetive or unpopular items, while other popular dishes are sorely missing. Eggplant, asparagus, or apple shrimp anyone? But no chop suey or cashew chicken? To run out of room on the menu is a common problem when Chinese has so many popular dishes... Most places happily make custom dishes or adaptations...without price-gouging! Not here. I wanted no baby corn, mushrooms, or bamboo, but extra water chestnuts....they tried to get me $1 extra for each dish. I worked in a chinese restaurant for many years, they have limited space on the menu but possibilites are endless, and most places were always glad to swap in same or cheaper ingredients or sauces at no upcharge. Food here is tasty, but not worth the attitude. Also, we were told they were out of things too, which should never be the case when the menu is so limited. The Best Hot & Sour Soup...I have had plenty of other Hot & Sour Soups, but their's is the best just the right amount of spicy vs tangy, Egg rolls blistering crispiness and delicious,, my Kung Pao Chicken was amazing also I asked to have it pumped up & adjust the level of spiciness and the chef accommodated me with no problem YUMMY!.. .......many of their dishes are excellent and they also have some unique selections also which include things like apples chicken & shrimp, & sauteed clams etc, things you don't usually see on Chinese menus especially around here. Service is friendly , atmosphere nice and refreshingly hip...Great Wok is definitely the best Chinese food restaurant around this area..& this includes any take out joint also from Lakehurst to the Jersey shore. Waiting 45 minutes just for a quart of soup... Third time within a month. Never going back.

During this quarantine, it has been very difficult to find a Chinese restaurant that's actually open. I went to my old stomping grounds in Staten Island and called about 20 Chinese establishments- all closed. I figured closer to home it wouldn't be that way, but I was wrong. Called another 12 Chinese restaurants/take outs in the Howell/Freehold/Jackson area - all closed. I was at my last straw and called this place, not expecting much but very excited to find out it was open. I was pleasantly surprised at how good the food was. General tsos shrimp were delicious- big and pack a punch of flavor. Dumplings were crispy and tasty like my favorite take out places. Chicken w broccoli was another tasty dish. Very happy with them. Will be back when another craving for Chinese food hits. My husband said the place also looked clean and sanitizer was available. read more
