Do NOT hire Mr. Rosenthal! He will not fight for you…read more I hired Mr. Rosenthal to help me with a child custody case. The first consultation we had, he seemed rushed but was very understanding. He validated a lot of my concerns and I thought he would be good representation for myself. I also had another consultation with a different lawyer at his firm that I really liked and when I called to say I wanted to hire her, he responded saying that he would take the case even though I was previously told he was unavailable on my court dates. I thought even better that the head of the firm can now represent me! I now wish I worked with the other attorney. We filed an ex parte after Mr. Rosenthal advised me to ask my ex husband a few questions and if we didn't get an appropriate response, then we had a case. But when he showed up to the courthouse on the day of the hearing, he had already decided we would loose. So why didn't he advise me, with his professional opinion, to not go through this terrible process? He showed up to the hearing late and in baggy pants, very unprofessional. He didn't help prepare me at all ahead of time. We went into a consultation room to discuss what the other parties response was and he dismissed anything I shared with him. I pointed out that a lot of it was false accusations and his response was "ya, there's a lot of lying in family law." We originally went to mediation to try to resolve but ultimately had to come back to the courtroom because we were at an impasse. When Matthew was presented the mediation report, he quickly looked at it and then threw it on the floor. The mediation report I thought was very well written and portrayed my side very accurately. I don't think the judge even looked at it and Mr. Rosenthal didn't bring it up. So it was all a waste of time. In front of the judge, Mr. Rosenthal didn't present my reasoning for the ex parte at all. I was looking out of my children's well being and he had a different agenda. The other side presented their false accusations, making me look really bad and embarrassing me in front of the judge. And Mr. Rosenthals response was that we would benefit from co parenting counseling. He didn't say a single rebuttal or try to redeem my reputation. It was no surprise we lost. I would've been better off with no representation. And without consulting me, he asked the judge to push out our next court date. Now this process is going to last a few more months when I just wanted to wrap it up and be done. His staff over text was very short with me. This was an unfamiliar process for me and I was asking for more guidance. They also told me contradictory statements. One said that I won't need to appear in court and the hearing would be over zoom. Then later that day, I get a text asking if I had any questions, I asked what the plan was for the hearing. And they said I need to be there in person. Very hard to plan accordingly for a full time working mom of 3. No mention of Mr. Rosenthal appearing and where I should meet him. This poor communication made me feel even more ill prepared and anxious about the hearing. I feel as if I was coerced into this court hearing so Mr. Rosenthal could collect court fees from me and he would do little to no work. Lawyers are hired to defend you, their job is to stand up for you despite their personal opinion, and they are suppose to advise you with their professional experience about the best course of action. Mr. Rosenthal doesn't do any of this. Child custody cases are already hard enough and it's horrible that you reach out to someone for help and support, but they ultimately make the situation worse. We all work hard for our money and want to spend it wisely. Mr. Rosenthal is clearly jaded, not compassionate and should choose a different career. He doesn't deserve to be taking anyone's money for lawyering.
