I have worked with Peter Cianchetta for almost five years now on my VA claim. When the VA kept telling me "NO", Pete stepped in and we decided to appeal and go to court. It took sometime as you know because the military wants you to hurry up and wait! When it was time to go to court Pete had me come in prior like any good lawyer should and we went over everything. Stay away from this scam artist. I've seen other reviews that rank Cianchetta and Associates 5 stars. I call BS. If you're currently under contract and C&A starts to not respond to emails, phone calls, cancelling of scheduled meetings and just basic communications, discharge Cianchetta immediately because you're being ghosted. If he uses the excuse of kidney stones, falling off a ladder, dead batteries in his keyboard AND mouse, needs to take a nap (seriously), lost his partner, or on vacation at the last minute, he's already used those ridiculous excuses before. If he says he's going to contact you or call you back, he won't. You'll need to make an appointment just to get more excuses and broken promises. Whoever proofreads his communications has a 4th grade education so your best bet is to see his communications BEFORE he sends them. Your dog can do better. When we finally discharged the firm, it took 2 weeks to get current status where we discovered he did not return communications to the opposing law firm for 2 months. Not days or weeks. MONTHS. We're not sure what prompted C&A to abandon us but I can tell you, it was not deserved. A little common courtesy would have probably not forced a bad review. I was referred to meet with several law firms to discuss a very complicated financial matter. The first two lawyers I met with did not have the expertise or experience that was needed and therefore could not help me. Cianchetta & Associates was the last on my referral list. Avoid this attorney for your wills, estate, and probate needs. I would not recommend Mr. Cianchetta to anyone. His legal representation was ill suited for my case. In my opinion he is better suited for bankruptcy cases, as this seems easier for him. While he understands "some" of the basics to probate/estate law and will try to convince you that he understands the law - that is if he even returns your phone calls - you will find he lacks the required expertise of a seasoned probate litigation attorney; this is in comparison to more experienced probate/estate attorneys. If you're looking for a probate attorney, keep searching and do not make the same mistake my family did. At the end of my case, he did very little legal work (I hired another firm to do it), and Mr. Cianchetta billed for extraordinary fees without discussing the issue with me. This is very unethical considering I had to hire another law firm to write 99% of all the legal briefs in court. In fact, as the lead attorney for my case, he didn't even appear to my last hearing and instead called the other attorney I hired. Mr. Cianchetta was more interested in getting paid for showing up to court, and reading legal briefs from other attorneys I hired, rather than actually writing legal responses and defending my case. Additionally, Mr. Cianchetta does not return timely phone call or emails; this caused many issues for my case. Mr. Cianchetta's legal expertise in probate was lacking for my particular case. When I asked him a legal question regarding wills, he said he needed a week to research it. I then reached out to him and he gave me his answer to the legal question I had asked. After a quick Google search, I found that in fact his legal opinion and research were drastically wrong and that existing case law stated the opposite of his "legal research." He gives answers to questions without conducting a thorough legal search. Had it not been for Google and basic research skills, coupled with me hiring another law firm, I would have lost my case. For complex legal issues, the local law schools, CA State Bar, and local law library can be instrumental in aiding you in your search for a "certified" probate attorney. Don't hire someone that uses a paralegal to write your defense (you'll notice very little case law cited and major grammar issues). If you want an aggressive legal defense, go elsewhere and take a look at their experience with probate law. Ensure any potential probate attorneys are "certified" probate attorneys and have a seasoned record of defending cases in court; if they don't, you may find that you will be paying extra fees for someone's reading pleasure. If you do hire this firm, you will find that in the beginning stages he is very friendly and easy to get along with. This review is based not out of emotion, but based on the representation I received. This being said, if your case gets complex with other attorneys involved (opposing counsel), you may find, as I did, that his expertise becomes quick answers that are not accurate and you may be left with a large bill at the end which he will demand be paid. When I raised the issue of his outrageous fees with him, and him saying one thing to me and doing another, he threatened to challenge me in court. A lawyer on your team shouldn't use his firm as leverage to bully fees out of clients that were never agreed upon. Be careful Yelpers. read more

Let me be upfront and note that I did not use this man's services. I walked away first. So, I contacted them via email because I needed some trust work done. They called me back in a day or two and we arranged an appointment for the following Wednesday at 4:30pm. It meant my wife had to leave work a little early, but they are only open until 5. We arrived at 4:30. The first thing I noticed was that the lobby was in disrepair. A previous legal firm we had used had an extremely ostentatious office. It looked really nice, but someone (meaning me) had to pay for all the fancy furniture and decorations. We thought if this guy saved some money on repairs, so what. Maybe it would be reflected on my bill. So we overlooked it. We rang a bell, and someone in a sweatsuit came out. Maybe it was his daughter helping out. Who knows. Stuff happens, so we overlooked it. She told us he was running a few minutes late as he got out of court late. Stuff happens, so we overlooked it. We waited 10 minutes, and asked them about his progress. Apparently, he had "just exited". He was still downtown at the time our appointment was supposed to start? Fine. Whatever. His office is very near the freeway, and he should be here in less than 5 minutes, so we overlooked it. Another 10 minutes went by, so we decided enough was enough and told them we were leaving. They said he had arrived and was in the parking lot now. Realizing it was silly to wait all this time and walk out at the last minute, we waited several more minutes. He came in and I shook his hand, signaling "Hello, ready to get started." He may have apologized for being late. I don't remember. What I do remember is that he started to head for his office, and someone on his staff handed us a clipboard to fill out with basic information about who we were and why we were there. That's when we knew were done. The office was messy. Fine. He was running late. Fine. The staff was dressed casual. Fine. They never offered us a drink or anything. Fine. But to then to be completely disrespectful of our time and ask us to start filling out paperwork that we could have been filling out the whole time we were waiting? Along with all the other things, that signaled incompetency. Maybe he's the world's great undiscovered talent in law, but an incompetent staff, especially with legal matters, is dangerous. No other way around it. Either they will hobble him or he isn't organized enough to make them do their jobs properly. That was our opinion anyway. There was a good chance a mistake could be made, and we would be the ones to pay for it. So, we left to find ourselves another attorney. read more

I am so fortunate that Peter just happened to be the attorney that I picked at random from the reviews here, and elsewhere. I've worked successfully, and for a number of different issues, with other attorneys, but weren't impressed enough to go back to them when my elderly mother needed help with estate planning and loan consolidation. Peter handled her issue with great tact and diplomacy. She is 82 years old, but lucid. A little deaf, a little slow, at times, but capable of understanding what is going on as long as it is explained to her clearly and slowly. I could not have asked for a better attorney than Peter when it came to interactions with my mother. For someone who is constantly on the move, doing twenty things at once, Peter is remarkable when it comes down to taking time to ensure that his clients understand fully what is being done and what they need to do. Don't let Peter's multitasking mislead you! This man can literally do ten or twelve things at once and do them all thoroughly and completely! I will admit it took awhile for me to understand this :) The guy doesn't miss a thing, no matter how preoccupied with other things it may appear. He was great with my mother's case. In addition, I happened to mention, in passing, ongoing problems I was having with my former mortgage holder, despite reaching an agreement last year. Peter's face actually lit up as I explained how my lender was leaving me in a very difficult situation, despite our previous agreement. I have since realized that, although Peter does not actually jump on a white horse and charge out to defend the poor and downtrodden, he has very little patience with entities who use their power to undermine agreements and to put their own onus of responsibility on the individual, assuming that the individual will not have the resources to fight them. Between Peter and David, four different entities associated with the situation were called to order, and I ended up receiving every thing I requested -- working on a contingency basis, no less. It has been my experience that attorneys acting on a contingency basis, are sometimes less likely to keep you as fully "in the loop" as their paying clients. This was not the case with Peter. I was informed of due dates and given heads up when these due dates had to be extended. I appreciate this courtesy more than I can say. Peter also went out of his way to ensure that I was not charged for items I could not pay while this case was being negotiated. I simply could not have asked for better representation, for either my mother or for myself, than I received from Peter. So, like it or not, Peter, you are now our family attorney! Although I promise to wait at least a couple weeks before calling you with more questions :) In all seriousness, you simply can't do better than Peter, especially if you are a client with limited resources. He respects and works around that issue quicker, better, and more effectively than any other attorney I have ever dealt with. read more

He is an honest, responsible, does his homework, ethical and forthright attorney (sounds like an oxymoron, but I know it isn't) that will save one from spending needless thousands of dollars on attorneys. It's not the per hour rate that really counts but the total overall price that really wins out. This is where Peter truly succeeds above and beyond many other attorneys, and of course, he is truly effective in his lawyering skills. I was the co-trustee involving my mother's estate. My brother and sister were making somewhat skewed allegations to justify their jealousy. I was in need of an attorney. Previous to him, I had another attorney that went through half of what Peter charged (billable hours) and didn't accomplish anything, except of course take my money in a matter of months! There are a lot of latent shady attorneys. Not with Peter. The down sides, if there are any, is Peter isn't always fully communicative in response to your emails and it takes awhile to see results (this may be impatience on my part). Of course you will PAY for complete, timely and very communicative emails/phone calls-if this is what you desire, see another attorney. He will ALWAYS communicate where it is vital. As to the process dragging on, this may be a result of the court, and again to get the process to go faster, you will pay and pay.
