During a crisis, my husband and I asked to see the therapist who had helped us before. We were told she wasn't available, with no real effort made to fit us in. Instead, they offered to book us with someone new, but only after we paid an outstanding balance we never knew existed because we'd never received a bill. This wasn't the first issue. Months earlier, I received an automated message saying all my individual appointments would be canceled unless I resolved a separate billing issue within 24 hours. This was after years as a client, always paying on time, and even patiently waiting while they fixed their own error of double-charging both my insurance and me. For a practice built on care and understanding, the behind-the-scenes treatment of clients shows very little of either.

I logged on at my scheduled time and waited, but my provider never joined. At 3:17 PM, I called the office and was told she was running approximately 15 minutes behind and that she would call me. I continued waiting. No one called. I eventually had to call the office again, only to then be told that my provider had canceled the appointment because she "couldn't get on Zoom." No call. No text. No email. No attempt to notify me whatsoever. And somehow, when I called at 3:17, I was told she was simply running behind. What makes this particularly upsetting is that this is mental health care. People are not making therapy appointments for something trivial. You have no idea what someone may be struggling with when they show up for an appointment or how much they may have needed that hour. Patients deserve basic communication, reliability, and consideration--especially from professionals entrusted with their mental health. I showed up for my appointment. I waited. I was given incorrect information when I called to find out what was happening. I continued waiting based on that information, and then I had to call a second time just to discover that my appointment had been canceled. To top it off, I was told there wasn't even another appointment available for me next week. Technical difficulties happen. That is not the issue. The issue is how this practice handled them. A simple phone call explaining the situation would have been entirely different. Leaving a mental health patient sitting there waiting, telling them the provider is running late, never following up, and then canceling the appointment without notifying them is extraordinarily unprofessional. Mental health care should be treated with the seriousness it deserves. Patients seeking help deserve better than this. I will also be formally reporting my experience.

I literally had to research it and figured out that this combination on my brain made me dull, made my executive functioning worse, increased dissociation and suicidal ideation, and made me feel numb. If I explained it was written off as depression and teenage angst. I think the over medication and misdiagnosis led to me having only blurry memories of this time. This therapist told me (and the child) that it was wrong to expect him to do chores, and to be upset that he doesn't want to do chores just because he has some issues. That's horsecrap. My child is not disabled, and he can do chores appropriate for his age. This therapist created a victim and gave a green-light for him to do whatever he wished and we were helpless. STAY FAR AWAY!
