I found these guys through U-haul (they're listed there at A+ Movers, but their official company name is Abba Movers). I chose them because they had the best rating there and the lowest price. I booked them online through U-haul, and Nick, the owner called me the same day to confirm and to go over my move. I had a simple move, but I had big pieces of furniture that I knew I needed help. Through no fault of Nick's, I had to change my move date several times because of my schedule. and each time I called Nick to let him know I needed to change, he was really sweet and patient. Finally, my move date arrived, and two guys (walter and another guy, whose name i forgot) showed up. but before they did, they called me the day of to confirm time. and then about an hour before, they called to let me know they were going to be half an hour late, which worked out well for me. and then called me 15 minutes before they arrived to let me know where they are. The backed the truck up to my door, loaded all my stuff up, drove over to my new place, and moved all the stuff in. I had labeled the boxes as to where they went, so they quickly put them where they belonged. They were also very quick about disassembling my furniture, and re-assembling my furniture. When I have to move again, I'll definitely be calling them to do it for me. read more

Almost seamless move, as there are always things that could have gone better. I am very particular about my things. I like EVERYTHING covered, blankets or shrink wrap. Not everything got covered to my liking. OVERALL, best moving company I have found to date. Much, much better experience with the moving crew and final pricing than I had with Two Men & A Truck. I hope not to move again anytime soon. When I do move or need small items moved, I will use these guys again. I do need to get a few items out of storage. ABBA-solute worst moving experience ever. We were promised employees not day laborers, but who showed up were teenagers who had no work ethic and were soooo slooow. They didn't do HALF the job in the time estimated and paid for. One guy took a "breakfast break" less than an hour after the job started. They refused to carry more than one thing at a time even when the one thing was as small as one book. It was really infuriating. I have never experienced such blatant lack of professionalism. So now we are stuck finding someone to do the other half of the job after paying $900 for a two bedroom move with no unboxing or assem less than 2 miles away. We've never felt so scammed before. UPDATE: we exchanged messages and the manager, Nick, admitted to scheduling our move and communicating with my husband about the lack of professionalism of his "employees," so I'm unsure why he has not updated his reply below claiming we used a moving company in Maryland. read more

I would like to share my gratitude for this company and the amazing team of people I had the pleasure of working with. Not only did I reach out at 9pm for the following day with help to move out of my 2x2 apartment, but they also reached out to me the same night. I will admit I was nervous due to the few bad reviews I saw, but I am relieved that I took the chance. The men worked fast and efficiently mind you they also had three flights of stairs to deal with!!! We had glass enclosures for our reptiles and NOTHING was damaged in the least. We had a decently heavy sectional couch they were did not plan on keeping, and would have had to pay a $100 fine if we left it in the apartment. They guys not only loaded it in the truck, but they also hauled it away!They were respectful, and clean. What more could you ask for? I feel for the few people who had bad experiences, but just know the company underwent employee changes and it seems to have worked! Thank you again for the help and the ease of nerves. The service from these movers were great at first. We took note that they took care into packing our items in to the van. That was until one of them ran our bed frame into the door. I don't know how they packed our bed into the truck but it is now lopsided and lumpy. We took the bed off and discovered it was not installed decently. Half of the screws were missing where the boards were installed, or have been stripped so badly, it does not even hold the screw. It's not like we had that much for them to move from our one bedroom apartment. We have been moving ourselves and took items that we could carry. They were only responsible for taking furniture in the living room, dining, and bedroom. Yet it still took them over 4 hrs, and our bed and frame was damaged. I trusted the reviews given to them. I'm not going to give them zero stars. Because overall, the experience wasn't terrible. But definitely not great. What I did not appreciate, was: 1) My appointment time was from 1:30 pm - 2:30 pm. They didn't show up until 3 pm. When I called at 2:20 pm to see where they were, the person I spoke to, initially said he couldn't find my name on the schedule. Even after I was sent several confirmation emails and texts. But just when I was about to lose my temper, he all of a sudden found it. 2) I was quoted a total cost of $436-$618. 2 hr minimum charge of $318 Every additional hour at $94/hr With no specialty items. After showing up at 3pm and with a time stamped receipt of 7:01pm that same day (4 hrs)...I ended up being charged $736.00. The total cost should have been $506. 3) I called as soon as it was done to find out why. No one answered. So I left a voicemail. No one cared to call me back. I deserve at least an explanation, if not some form of credit. read more

Seriously amazing! The price can't be beat and I couldn't be more satisfied. I had Mario and crew move me out of my downtown New Orleans apartment. They had everything moved out and ready to go in 60 mins while I sat back and enjoyed a Bloody Mary. The brought dollies, carts, and furniture pads and didn't charge extra. I moved into a second story unit and they ensured everything I had was in it's correct location and organized before they left. They took all of the stress out of the move! Two stars were given because they arrived (5-10 minutes late) and the job was completed. I needed unloaders to unload boxes, a couple of tables, and one bedroom set from my 2nd POD. The guys came with moving straps and no dolly, so they took longer to unload. This POD was not filled at maximum capacity, but it really took them 2 full hours to just unload the items to the garage and kitchen area. I used Movers & Helpers (Dylan & Keenan) with my other (fuller) POD and they were done unloading in 1 hour. In the 2nd hour, they were able to unwrap all my furniture and put two bedroom sets together. Ultimately they were more efficient with their time and they cost a little less than Abba. I regret not calling Dylan or Keenan again. They were so flexible with scheduling me in at last minute. read more

Abba movers did a great job with our move. The movers were respectful, hard working, communicative, and spoke and read English well (which is important when you label your boxes!). They had moving straps which helped them move more quickly and efficiently with heavy furniture. Two of our items got misplaced during the move and didn't make to our new house. I suspect they got leftover on the truck - they were black and it was dark outside by the time they were done. After looking into the situation and being unable to locate the items, Nicholas from ABBA sent me money to repurchase the lost items. I so appreciated this! I only gave 4 stars because of this issue: They were 30 minutes late, and then had to go back for moving blankets, cords, etc before being able to get started, but they apologized and did not start the "timer" on the move until they were ready to start. I highly recommend this company. The team was very professional. We used them to unload a Upack trailer coming from Las Vegas. They very carefully moved everything to the specific location we wanted. They were regularly asking which room and once the item was in the room they wanted to place it perfectly for us. They also offered to help with assembling beds and other furniture. They used a two man strap to quickly and effectively move large heavy items. I have had movers in the past try to put these kinds of things on a dolly and it never works out. They were careful to ensure they didn't damage our items or the walls/home. They worked efficiently. I will use this company again should I need a moving service. read more

These guys are friendly, and easy to schedule. But don't hire boys to do a man's job. They aren't professional movers, and while they are careful, they work at the speed of molasses in the winter. What should be a two hour load up turned into a five hour load and I ended up having to jump in to help them. They originally said they could complete the job with two guys, then added another the night before. Halfway through the move they asked if they could bring another person on. This is a two bedroom home with no appliances going! Again, nice guys, but they take their time and charge you for every penny of it. Find some professional guys that do this for a living, not part time LSU students in a U-Haul truck. read more

These are turtle speed movers. Initial communications were fast. However one hour before start they asked to add one more person. I refused because this was all packed up two bedroom apartment with no appliances to move. The driving distance was within 2 minutes. The whole process was just watching two turtles moving slowly. Chatting with each other all the time, using phones frequently, and staying in the truck packing forever!!! This was not my first time hiring movers so I know how terrible they are. It took them 4 hours to put packed stuffs into the truck and unload them. Remember there were no need to unpacking and setting up again. I couldn't believe how they have received so many 5* reviews. My movers were very quick, professional, and friendly, but a few days after the move I've started to notice problems. The BIG one was that I asked them to hook up the washer/dryer in my new house. A few days later, as I started washing my first load, I noticed soapy water flooding all over my hallway out of the laundry room. It turns out they hadn't bothered to connect the drainage hose on the back of the washer! I am just lucky I was still home to catch it. I then checked the back of the dryer too, and they had connected the vent pipe without tightening the clamps, so it could have popped off at any moment. Really shoddy, and dangerous. I also saw this morning that a corner of my desk was damaged, with part of a board ripped off causing the whole top shelf to be loose. I had been ready to give a great review, but now I'm just looking out for more problems as I continue unpacking my things... read more

Just did a partial move and the were great. came about 10 min late but had called to let us know. Moved some very old fragile furniture with no problems. The movers from Abba were really pleasant to work with. They even some how managed to get my couch into the second bedroom of my two bedroom apartment, even though at times it didn't look like they were going to be able to. They kept trying anyway and even took the bedroom door off just to make it work. It was raining as well so that made things a bit slower and more difficult. The only reasons I'm not giving them 5 stars is because 1) they had to get a different person to meet me and the driver at the apartment I was moving into and I was charged for the extra time it took to drop the first guy off and for the new guy to get there, although it was only about 20minutes. 2) I stopped for gas on the way to Baton Rouge where I was moving from New Orleans and still beat the truck by 20 minutes at least but when I was heading back to New Orleans to pick up my dog the moving truck passed me... it made me think why couldn't you drive that fast to get to my apartment. And 3) they gave me a range for the estimate but the total ended up being $150 over the top of the estimate. Even so I would DEFINITELY use Abba again. read more

I am going to qualify my review as all reviews should be, based on MY personal experience. Ours may not be typical, which is what the friend who recommended them highly said and also the owner and all staff. However, it happened, and thus my family has had to encourage me to share since I hesitate to bad-mouth a company. We switched to Abba Movers based on the very high recommendation of a coworker who had recently used them on several occasions. They were said to be extremely careful and great at moving difficult furniture. Ours was a rather simple move - 1 room with large pieces from an upstairs room and then quite a few large dresser-type pieces, tables, etc. We had an estimate from another company that the local move would take 4-5 hours at most, but probably closer to 3 1/2 hrs. We switched to Abba based on the recommendations for being careful. The two movers showed up 50 minutes late (they did call to warn us). We were told they had another move in 3 hours so we expected a fast, accurate move. We thought wrong. When they came, one of the movers appeared "high" on something, albeit very friendly and nice. It took them over an hour and a half to move the one room (everything was empty and no boxes). This probably was due to multiple smoke and bathroom breaks. Needless to say, they did get it downstairs seemingly safely so we were thankful. The one then said, "we can stay all day if it takes that." Which we couldn't understand since there were no boxes and everything was empty, but we smiled and just prayed they would get done in their 3 hrs. Well the downstairs move barely began and the"high" mover suddenly announced an "emergency" which he had to leave and take the truck and furniture. Despite our offers to drive him to take care of things and come back to finish, he didn't want us to do that. He had friends come pick them up (since we wouldn't let them take our furniture). Before they left, the "high" one told us they'd be back sometime "after 2." That was nearly 3 hrs from the time they were leaving (and his emergency from what he told us was to run across town, get his kids, and drop them off at a friends). The emergency, which had a time deadline according to him, suddenly didn't seem as urgent since they spent 20 minutes walking around the car and smoking (after they pulled around the corner --we moved so we could incredulously watch). At this point, I called the owner and asked for new men to finish the job timely. He said he'd call me back. An hour and a half later I called him (he said he was about to call me) and said he was sending the "high" one back with a different guy "after 2 p.m." Well we talked it over and said we didn't want the "high" one back, so could the owner or someone else come to finish this right. Well, he said he'd get back with me. The owner also explained the "high" guy's "emergency" which was a totally different story than he had told us personally before abandoning us. Another 40 minutes passed and the owner TEXTED me to say two guys would come around 4 p.m. To make this long story and day a bit shorter, when they came back, they said the truck was improperly packed and they needed to empty it and redo it. These two guys did well that evening, however it took until 8:30 that night to finish our simple move (a twelve hour move!). AND two pieces of our furniture were badly scratched. The owner didn't call me that evening with the price, instead the moving guy had to come back in sheepishly. We felt the amount way too high for the damage and time. I called the owner who said a $20 scratch kit should help us. These are gouges, not just light scratches we're talking about. He did discount the price, still higher than the first company's price, but we paid it. He apologized and said, as did the movers, that "this never happens." But it did....to us. We were disappointed that two of us took off all day from work to wait around on movers that most of the time weren't there, and then, on the lack of attention from the owner. We were kind to them, no yelling, etc, we just wanted the owner to make things right. He never explained why he personally couldn't come to try to rectify the situation even though we asked him to do so in the afternoon. We were highly disappointed. It was so unbelievable that it was laughable, only too sad because of the damage. Maybe it never happens, but it did at least once. So, take it or leave it... read more

these guys are really good! i've used them twice in new orleans - once to unload a large moving truck into storage (2009), and then to move stuff out of storage into my apartment (2010). there was just one thing, and i feel really bad for saying this, but one of the movers was sweating so profusely it was pouring all over my stuff - not dripping, but pouring. the guy had to wring his shirt out a number of times. i've actually never seen anyone sweat that much in my life. my move was in the fall but it was unusually warm. he felt bad and apologized for it, and i felt bad for him, but i had to clean a lot more as a result. i hesitate to mention it because the guy couldn't help it, but perhaps he could've used sweat bands and/or towels. the only other issue was the way things were placed in the storage room. heavy boxes were placed on tops of very tall stacks, which is dangerous, and i had asked for a pathway for access to the back but i guess they forgot. anyway, i can overlook that because they were so nice, well intentioned, and really trying to do a good job. for the second move, everything went smoothly and the guys even drove my moving truck back to the lot for me. i would definitely recommend them and use them again myself. read more

I moved with Abba Movers almost two weeks ago and it truly was a great experience. Let me give a little background...I've lived most of my adult life in NYC and usually grabbed a bunch of friends to help when I was moving in dorms or into apartments. Everyone knows, moving in NYC is beyond stressful. I've also had the pleasure of working for a moving company while living up there, so having that experience made me really determined to do moves on my own. I moved down here with very little going into first place but moving this time, I knew I was going to need help, especially with the larger pieces of furniture. I made sure to do my research and Abba had the most glowing reviews. Contacted them through Yelp and Nick was very helpful answering all my questions. On the day of the move, they were only four minutes late. IMO, that's early as moves rarely happen on time. There was only one other minor hiccup, they had forgotten their tools but I'm used to things like this happening, so I had no problem being flexible. Phil and Seth (?) were great, friendly, and made this move go as quickly and smoothly as possible. If I ever have to move again, I will be using these guys. Not only are they great at what they do, but they are reasonably priced. This was my first official move with movers and I truly felt like I was in the most capable hands.
