A beautiful banquet for events! Wish that they had bathrooms on each end of the banquet halls so you didn't have to walk all the way to one end. We worked with Monica for our Wedding. She was so knowledgeable and always available to answer my questions over the course of the planning process. She did a great job guiding me when I was unsure about certain details. I loved the various packages they offer, they really help you plan the perfect event. The minestrone soup was unrecognizable. We all thought that it was zucchini in beef broth. Actually the broth was good and not too salty. One at our table drank the broth. My little cup had zucchini and one bean.The salad was good with candied pecans. My vegetarian plate was pitiful. We got engaged April 2017 and just got married on May 26 so that's about two years out we booked. We fell in love with the Abbington when we visited! We went to close to 20 halls and Abbington we knew was the one! We worked primarily with Tara. Throughout those couple years she kept in touch. I had so many silly questions and she replied promptly. Everyone there is so nice and willing to help any way they can. I am a huge worrier and I know I didn't have to worry with Abbington. They have won so many awards for a reason! Fast forward to our wedding day...everything was absolutely perfect! We had a lot of stuff for them to set up and everything was how I envisioned it. The food was delicious!! Just had my Daughters bridal shower here all I can say is I'm mortified and embarrassed!!!! The food was horrible the lemon chicken was so thick and had no capers and n taste do lemon. The beef tasted like a frozen dinner , the green beans were not fresh the were served frozen from a bag ,the salad was pitiful a,d skimpy.I was total embarrassed we stressed to the banquet coordinator the concerns we had after our pre banquet tasting and they were over looked. So before you read this review here are a couple of caveats- first- I was here for a business meeting so all the of glitz and glamor I am going to mention probably looks better at night for a more formal function; and secondly, I am not a fan of banquet halls . But all that aside- if you are looking for a large space for a wedding or other function, you may want to look at the Abbington. Located out in Glen Ellyn (hard to find since the address says Route 53 but it is really on Butterfield Road- enter by the McDonald's just south of Butterfield on Route 53 if your GPS is like mine and refuses to find this place!) there is plenty of free parking and the place is huge. The style is a little "fake classy" for my style with the crystal chandeliers, the columns and pillars, and the crown molding around the ceiling hearkening back to a "southern belle" era. It's a lot over the top for my more subtle taste (kind of like a fancy country club but not quite pulling it off) but if I squint and picture a bride at the top of the stairs or a gathering in the main lobby area, it might be okay so I am giving it the benefit of the doubt. Again- I was here for a business meeting during the day which probably didn't show off the space as well. The food was quite good and the service was very attentive. I made a face at the "pink chicken" that they were serving and the manager was over right away to tell me that it was "Strawberry chicken" and it actually tasted quite good for banquet hall food. I also thought that the side dishes and desserts were flavorful and quickly replenished for our larger group. The pricing to rent this place is reasonable (at least for a day meeting) which also upped my rating. There are also plenty of restrooms which is also a big plus in my book for a place that hosts large functions. All in all, functional, if just a little over the top for a business meeting. I'm betting that when the place is decked out for a wedding with the tables glittering in the chandelier light that it is actually quite lovely if this is your style. read more

I had my wedding here on November 16, 2013 and can't say enough good things about this place!!!! Yes, I agree that at first the location doesn't seem the best, in a strip mall right next to Walmart (at first I was also skeptical) but the venue is beautiful and classy inside; the chandeliers added a very nice touch to all of our wedding pictures. Compared to other banquet halls that did not have the same ambiance, I was able to have a beautiful wedding without the grand hotel prices and I was very happy at the end of the day :) The only negative I felt was the bridal-room which a little dusty and could use some improvements including better lighting. Kathy was very flexible and allowed us to bring in an outside caterer and decorator (for our Indian wedding) and allow serving to be done family style, which was a nice elegant touch to our reception. Do note that if a caterer or decorator offends her in anyway or messes up in the past, you will hear about it! She only lets in the best, but was still very flexible with our choices. We did have a little miscommunication about the video slide show and the equipment needed the day of the wedding, but other than that she was very helpful with any questions/requests we had and even visited us and our guests during the reception to ensure everything was okay. She is not the type of banquet manager to bail or take vacation day during your event, that is for sure! Also a shot out to awesome Javier who ensured everything was setup and moving smoothly the day off. The staff there is efficient and excellent. Some of our guests did complain that the family-style service was "too hustled and quick" as some people had cake taken away before they were able to eat it which is unfortunate as it was very good cake (not included in the wedding package btw) , but to be honest that is better than buffet style service at most Indian weddings, where dinner is not served until 10 pm! We had the pleasure of attending my cousin's wedding reception at Abbington Banquet last weekend. This banquet is located at the intersection of IL 53rd and Roosevelt Rd. The parking lot is quite large. The staff is friendly, helpful, and knowledgeable . The room was beautifully decorated. The open bar is great. Open bar offered non- alcoholic drinks like kiddie cocktails, coke, sprite, etc. Also during the toasts, kids were allowed to share the moments with us. Of course they didn't drink champagne, they had sparkling cider. The food was so delicious. The size of the steak is huge. cooked at medium rare. It's tender and juicy. We had a five corse meal. First we enjoyed a nice creamy cheese broccoli soup. It was delicious. Next we had the Cesar Salad. It was really good I enjoyed the croutons ! After that we had a nice palette cleanser. It was a nice and cold lemon sorbet. Then we had a fairly large cute of steak. The steak was served with mashed potatoes and vegetables. Very yummy. Finally we enjoyed the wedding cake and some ice cream inside a dark chocolate cupcake cup. I loved the desert combination of wedding cake and ice cream in chocolate cupcakes. There was a lot of food so we were able to take food home to-go. The DJ was very kinda he took many great requests from the kids who had a great time dancing in the dance floor. In addition to the amazing dance floor they had a nice "photo booth" but with flip books. You'd move behind a camera for about 8 seconds and many picture would print out and be stapled together to create a flip book. Lots of memories will be kept forever through the flip-books. Been here few times. It's a decent size banquet but hidden behind the gas station and Fast food restaurant. Ample parking. Entry is not as grand kind of low height door actually makes you wonder if you are at the right entryway! Hallways are nicely decorated but narrow. Restrooms are neat and clean. Ballroom is nice big and well decorated with elegant decor. It's more rectangular so you don't know what's going on on the other side unless you get a seat in the middle. read more

I attended a friends wedding here recently. Gorgeous venue, very clean and good bathrooms. The food was also very yummy, the staff was very nice. The one huge disappointment was the fact that their wait staff could not wait until AFTER our speeches were over to clear the awkwardly placed buffet line in the middle of our dance floor. The best man literally had to lunge and eventually move over to the completely different side of the ballroom because it was just so distracting! I didn't want to make a scene right then and there because it was an emotional speech but we (bridal party) were all very confused as to why the staff thought it was the appropriate time to clear the food. In addition, the food was put out right at the beginning when the bride and groom were exchanging their vows. Though this is my one qualm with the day, this was an unwelcome interruption during the celebration and I hope it doesn't happen like this to other couples. read more

Sponsored a wedding shower last weekend at Abbington. Everything was terrific. Working with the staff (Tara and Kathy) was easy. They worked hard to accommodate our requests. Were extremely willing to reschedule during COVID. (We rescheduled twice during the Covid year. ). The rooms were clean and beautiful. The food was delicious, with courteous service. We had the appetizer tray, champagne chicken lunch and wine service throughout. Dessert was a mocha cake that was out of this world. Everything was very well received by our guests. They followed COVID guidelines for the state and had masks and hand sanitizer available. We will definitely be having more events here. read more

We fell in love with the Abbington the minute we stepped in the door. It is an absolutely gorgeous venue - the chandeliers are a showstopper. We worked with Tara who was the best! She was so organized and knowledgable, honest and we trusted her which is so important when putting basically your entire wedding reception in someone else's hands! If I could give this place more than 5 stars, I would. Just to give everyone an understanding of how good this place was, I live in Skokie and this place is at least an hour away and I would have suggest that if you're looking for a wedding venue, give this place a look. First, Tara and her group were probably the most accommodating during our wedding planning. We got to do two tastings, one trial and one for the final tasting. As time moved on and we had planned our final tasting, my mother had passed away and we had to cancel our final tasting. As time got closer to our wedding, we were losing time to have this tasting but, Tara was able to accommodate us with a different day of the week. Also, while we had given our final numbers already, people decided to send us more RSVPs. We asked Tara's group and gave us the ability to add a few more people. As for the rest of the banquet, I had gotten so many compliments on how the room looked and about the food. The food was amazing and the setup was great. Everyone couldn't stop talking about the seafood bar (We didn't get to try it because it was so busy...). People had said that the seafood bar was super fresh and had gone up multiple times for more. So much to say, that their actual dinner plate was left untouched while others had nibbled on a few pieces. With that being said, I have never gone to a wedding where you got to bring your dinner home! They were giving everyone Styrofoam boxes for their dinners. I was very impressed by this. Basically, my wife and I loved this place and were so thankful that Tara and her team were able to give use the wedding we wanted. I had attended a wedding on Oct. 1st at your banquet hall. I have eaten here in the past, but was VERY disappointed at the food. The soup was no more than beef broth, with the hardest vegetables I've ever had in soup. The salad lacked dressing and the main course, the chicken breast was terrible. I could not cut it with my butter knife, thought I'd have to get saw out of car. I'm sure the bridal party paid a lot for this, but the quality was not there and the quantity was lacking. It's a banquet facility ~ what do people expect? Parking lot was able to accommodate the number of cars for the occasion on the day I was there, but a very large wedding or other function might be out of luck. I suppose they could park in the lot for the other businesses next door. The entry area is bright and airy. Couches and some chairs are too soft and waaaaaaaaaaaaay too big for an average sized person to sit on and still have their feet on the ground. Maybe that was intentional. The room for our function was fine, nothing special. The food was tasty, I'll give them that. Ample servers so we could not understand why our entrees sat on trays while everyone else was busy eating. Once served, I did enjoy it. On the down side, our server had horrendously horrible breath. I mean knock you out of your chair bad. When dessert was served, I mentioned I was allergic to chocolate. Too bad for me, I never got anything for dessert. I never said I would not like to enjoy dessert, but not even vanilla ice cream was offered. So, with all the good and the bad, it was A-OK. read more

I attended a wedding there on Saturday and it was AMAZING!!! The room was decorated beautifully, there was plenty of room to move around between tables, food was a plenty and SOOOO GOOD! The food was literally the best wedding food I have had. The appitizers I tried were the Raspberry/brie in Almond Filo which was OMG soo good and the Avacado cheese balls which were tasty too. Never had avacado but it was good and the cheese inside SO GOOD! The entree was chicken Marsala, Fillet Minion, mashed potatoes and asparagus. Both Chicken, steak were PHENOMENAL !!! I can not stress that enough. I was blown away and it was seriously enough meet to serve 3 people. Very good potatoes too. I didn't eat the asparagus but I heard it was very good. The cake was Red Velvet with cream cheese and it was served with a little dish made of chocolate with vanilla ice cream inside. The cake was really moist and delicious. I'm not a huge red velvet fan but this took the cake !(hehe... stupid pun I know but I couldn't resist) All night there was food out. After the cake they opened a fondue station and a while after that they added a station of potato skins, fried cheese sticks, pizza etc.. There were 2 other weddings going on at the same time but we didn't even notice. My only complain was that we were in the room farthest from the restroom. It would have been nice to have one on our end too but that's not even much of a complaint. Oh they were kept very clean and well stocked. I knew as I was eating the vegetarian option,couscous, that it just wasnt right. It tasted awful and everyone that got it certainly agreed. Now to the details.,That night I was up all night violently ill and barely made it to work the next morning. As I spread my food poisoning tale around the work place I came to find out that there were a couple other people in the same boat as me! To add to fact that my stomach and intestines were left in the toliet and sink the waitress we had was a grumpy and mean. She gave everyone attitude and when I asked if the soup was vegetarian she shrugged and said" I dunno" and proceded to walk away without offering to find out for me. Seeing mixed reviews about this place, I was somewhat concerned about coming here for a wedding reception. I even warned my wife to avoid couscous if we see it served, but from the moment I set foot in the place, I was impressed. Let me dispel any concerns you may have. Abbington has it nailed perfectly in the arrangement of the whole place. You walk into a vast open lobby area, not the crammed standing room only area you find at some places when guests arrive and the dining area is not open yet. Plenty of places to sit down or walk around and mingle before dinner. A flight of stairs up leads you to the bridal party's dressing room, which was very close to the head table, so everyone in the party could go back and forth without getting into the crowd of guests and family, another well-conceived plan in the layout of the place. The window dressings in the dining hall look simply majestic with elegant curtains hung with precise care and detail. And then the food. Appetizers served by the staff were plentiful. Tasty triangular pieces of spinach pie, mushroom caps and the biggest breaded shrimp I've seen anywhere outside of Las Vegas. After all the toasts and speeches were over, the doors flung open and an army of servers emerged from the kitchen with bread and salads as if the whole event was precisely staged to the moment. Loved the salad and dressing too. Two bottles of wine were on every table. They served Copper Ridge, one of my favorites, especially the white zinfandel. The rest of the meal was perfect, with cream of chicken soup, steak and twice-baked potato all worthy of praise. And even as we ate, attentive staff carefully watched the table and removed empty plates and glasses to prevent the overcrowding of tables with dishes as it seems to plague so many fancy receptions I've attended at even far more expensive venues. My mother-in-law, who has difficulty walking, even got a glass of water brought to the table, which I know would be easily ignored or forgotten by the staff at other places too. Overall, an impressive, clean and beautiful place to host a wedding reception. While I don't know of the costs and arrangements needed to book an event here, I can confidently speak from my own exceptional dining and service experience I received. By the way, getting here is easy though the place is set back behind a mall area, since it's between the Wal-Mart and McDonald's at Rt. 53 and Butterfield. Plenty of parking and a distinctive white front make it easy to spot once you go into the mall. read more

This is the location where we host the prom for our school each year- we always have a very pleasant experience. They do a nice job hosting a large crowd (around 700 students) who are all eating at the same time. They offer a nice variety of menu options- with a range of prices. They also offer a variety of starters and late night food, in addition to dessert buffets (which we haven't tried yet). The appetizers and late night food are both good- I have tried both in our years working with them. We plan to continue to use Abbington Banquets in the future- and I would highly recommend them for school proms, and I would imagine weddings as well! read more

But I was here for a wedding, so it was very mass-produced (and tasted that way). The waiter we had was really good, though! I want to thank The Abbington and especially Bob for making my husband's and my special day one to remember. We received exceptional service from Bob from start to finish. My husband and I paid for our wedding ourselves, and Bob was more than willing to talk to us about our options and work within our budget. Unlike other places, I never felt like we had to add on a whole bunch of extras to get super star service. Our reception was phenomenal, the service was impeccable and they were incredibly attentive to the littlest details - such as making sure that my husband and I had time to eat by not clearing our plates away, or taking care of any special meal requests. The food was very good, the appetizers delectable and the champagne was so good that my mother and sister in law have sent me on a hunt to discover what kind it was, they enjoyed it so much. My husband and I are city people, we like a modernist look, and were a little bummed initially that all the places with hardwood floors, sweeping windows and exposed brick were so expensive. Our entire wedding was nontraditional, and we didn't want a traditional reception venue. I'm so glad we changed our tune. If I could rate the Bartender and how the bar was tended it would be a Zero. Bottom line he discriminated against my guests because of their accents I assume in addition he tried to pour me Smirnoff when I paid Premium. Drinks were awful a glass full of ice a few drops of alcohol. Guests requested a Long Island ice tea he had all the ingredients to make it refused. Don't get the old man bartender refuse him and watch your drinks very diluted - a real bartender knows how to make drinks this one ruined my time - my son's wedding. We have had a few events that have taken place here and I have to say that the staff from start to finish have always been great and the food has never let me down. They are very accommodating in emergency cases and you can always find a manager or supervisor to be around during your event. I was very pleased with having our wedding at Abbington Banquets. Our wedding planner, Tara, was great...helped us to put together a package we were both happy with (you can negotiate their packages and take things out you don't want and put what you do what in)---at least that what we did. Their prices are decent....there are definitely places that charge a LOT more per head! I liked that I was able to customize a lot of things that we wanted into the package deal. The tasting went well...she gave us a variety of options to choose from and even was able to bring us more cake samples (we asked for that in advance) than what was in the original tasting. The cake turned out beautiful by the way---just how I expected it. Our wedding night went great! There were no problems with the venue, cake, music, etc...everything looked beautiful and all our guests were pleased. The thing I love the most is that they have a HUGE beautiful wood dance floor for all our guests (as we danced the night away)....it was lovely. All in all I would definitely recommend this place as an option for your wedding venue. 2 of our friends ended up having their wedding here the year after we had ours because they loved it so much. read more

In these uncertain times, in the midst of a totally unforeseeable pandemic, the management has been professional and easy to work with. They have gone out of their way to reschedule events, such as the wedding I had previously booked, and accommodate group sizes, abiding by government mandates. My heart goes out to them as many business struggle now trying to keep afloat. Their employees are dedicated but unfortunately out of work at the time being. The leisure and entertainment businesses have taken a huge hit right now since they are not legally able to operate. But I'm confident that this "class act" establishment will emerge because of their extraordinary reputation. We have attended over a dozen events there over the years and have been extremely satisfied by their outstanding food and service. We used a photographer (Studio One), Florist (Shamrock Gardens), Baker (The Baking Institute), Hotel (Embassy Suites) and DJ (Admit One DJ's) from their preferred vendor list...they were all fantastic!! My Fiance and I looked at several places to have our wedding and fell in love with Abbington out of them all. The room was beautifully decorated and the staff were all fantastic taking care of every guest request quickly and professionally. The food was so incredibly delicious the best I've ever had at a wedding and the size of the steaks & chicken breast were huge.
