En route from Truckee to back to the Bay Area, I stopped off at ABC Bakery for take-out dim sum. With my arrival time at 4pm, I didn't expect there to be much left because the place closes at 5pm. To my surprise, there were enough items to fulfill my dim sum craving: 4 siu mai - larger than normal 2 har gow - skin did not fall apart 1 baked cha siu bau - good amount of filling 1 pineapple bun filled with custard 2 sesame balls - crispy on the outside When I asked for the pineapple bun, I thought cha siu was inside, but it was custard. As for the sesame balls, I was lucky to get them because it was from a big order where there was only 2 left. Unfortunately, there were no more egg tarts left, but I wasn't surprised given the time of day. Overall, I enjoyed the food and would stop by again, hopefully, earlier. Things to note: Cash only. No dining in. No bathrooms. Must ask for sauces and utensils.
This place has been my go-to ever since my first visit in 2021, and the Sui Mai never disappoints. That's usually what I order, and my kids love it too. I'm also a fan of their fried pork dumplings, shrimp balls, and sesame balls. We recently ordered party trays of Sui Mai, Ha Gow, and fried dumplings for my sister's baby shower, and they were gone fast. There's usually a line on the weekends, but it moves pretty quickly. Everything is fresh and reasonably priced, which makes the experience even more enjoyable.
Run to ABC whenever they have the "Special Pinnacle BBQ Pork Bun!" OK, pineapples are just OK and I'm there their latest concoction of pineapple bun with barbecue pork is culinary delight! I was lucky enough to arrive when they were just getting ready to take him out of the oven I'm waiting and it was so hot when I got in had to wait about five minutes to pull off but the smell in my car while I was waiting was worth the wait. Out of the world tasty. The pineapple is perfectly crunchy around the outside and super soft on the inside and then filled with the perfect consistency of the barbecue pork. At $2.49 it's a nearly a whole meal and wow so good. I also tried the barbecue pork mochi and wow, they've changed that recipe. It had some interesting spice not just five spice. It was really tasty. I'm gonna have to regularly stop ABC again my friends try this pineapple bun. You just can't even imagine how it is!
So my coworker and brand new member of the Elite Team,Dan H. surprised me at work the other day with a few baked items from ABC Bakery-it was an unexpected surprise and I was for sure happy about it. A little background-I've lived in Sacramento area for almost 30 years and never been to ABC Bakery and of course I've heard of it for years-it's a legendary place,but I guess my travels around the Sacramento area just never got me to ABC Bakery,so one day I was going to his house and I saw the bakery was like 2 minutes from his house and I was like "how have I never stopped there after all this time"...Well that day,Dan H fixed that problem-sorta. So here is what he brought me and what I thought of them. -Shrimp Dumpling-I like this-I put some chili oil on it and it was super tasty-this one I will order again. 7.9/10 item -Pork Dumpling-this one I didn't love as much-not sure if it was maybe I didn't eat it hot off the oven but I don't know-just tasted a bit off-maybe too much straight pork which sounds crazy-but maybe that's it-6.1/10 item -Chicken Curry Bun-this one was amazing-almost the best item of the meal-I am not sure if I'm supposed to put chili oil and soy vinegar on this but I did and man those flavors popped-the bun itself was so soft and tasty-I really loved this and would get it again-8.3/10 item -Pork Bun-last but for sure not least-the classic Pork Bun and it was great-practically flawlesss-perfect bun perfect seasonings on meat,perfect taste-about the only thing wrong with it was that I didn't have 5 of em to eat-it was really great-I will for sure get this item again-9.3/10 item After eating these items-I get why this place is held in such high regard.Of course I'm left with the thought that as good as the items were,I think they would be better if I was in the store eating these things fresh out the oven-my favorite pork bun bakery in NYC Chinatown serves them fresh right out of the oven and they r off the charts great-so now I feel I have to get to this bakery in person and get the entire ABC Bakery experience-maybe this weekend-I am off this weekend-I think I can make that happen. In closing-from what I've experienced so far ABC Bakery is so legit-stay tuned for part 2 of this review when I actually make it into the bakery-Stay Safe Out There.
ABC Bakery is located in the same plaza as O' Reilly's Auto Parks, specifically right next door to Florin Nails & Spa with a large shared parking lot. I came by here with my husband on a Friday afternoon, around 1:45 pm. There was a line of maybe 7 other parties ahead of us. When it was our turn, we ended ordering: 2 shrimp balls $2 each- These shrimp balls were nice and crunchy, as they are wrapped in spring roll wrapper strips and then deep fried to give you that nice crispy crunch. My husband and I both enjoyed these, but they were a little oily and wished they were drained a little bit more. 2 haw gaw $1.50 each- These were good. They tasted pretty standard. The size for the price was also fine. 2 shiu mai $1.50 each- These were also good and felt the size was acceptable for the price. 1 steamed bun $4- This bun had sausage, a hard boiled egg and pork inside. Although the filling inside was tasty, I didn't like that there was so much of the bun and not enough of the filling to match. ------------------------------ (Total= $15.23 after tax) Please note that this place is CASH only (or you can pay with your debit card). Unfortunately at the time we arrived, ABC Bakery was already out of cheong fun or rice noodle. Actually what really surprised me was that the to go dim sum places that I have gone to in Sacramento don't seem to normally have cheong fun on their menu. But back home in San Gabriel Valley, where I live, that seems to be a staple at every to go dim sum eatery (I always order cheong fun). Service was friendly and wait time wasn't too long, even though there was a line. The employees helping me were able to speak both Cantonese and English so you shouldn't have trouble if you come here. The next time I come by here, I will have to make sure to come much earlier so that I don't miss out on things that already sold out.
Neighborhood Gem located on the back side of the Bel Air at Florin & South Land Park, featuring both baked and steamed buns, as well as dumplings and assorted baked goods strictly on a to-go basis. I got my favorite Chicken Curry baked bun, a BBQ Pork bun, and tried a Pineapple baked bun with BBQ Pork, a pork dumpling and shrimp dumpling. Every item is fantastic in flavor, but the star for me was the Pineapple BBQ pork bun, the combination of flavors with the Crust on the bun made me wish for more. They are usually very busy and can often be low on some of the buns as they also take call in orders . Dont be afraid to grab a dozen of the baked buns as they reheat easily and make for a nice snack or meal. (I can't speak for the steamed buns, baked buns all the way for me)
This place was poppin but I have to say, it's pretty hit or miss. Pros- The line moves fast, multiple people are taking orders. All the girls working the register were young and spoke English. Everything in the case is labeled and they also have menus posted on the wall and by the case. They do recommend you have a list ready when it's your turn to order. It helps with the flow of things. Prices are decent. In a plaza, so parking is abundant. Cons- Cash and debit cards only. Even though English is spoken, there still was some miscommunication. I asked for the spare ribs rice roll and she almost gave me something else. I also ordered the BBQ pork mochi biscuit but she gave me a Red Bean one. Items are not really fresh. Spare ribs rice roll - This was so good and only $5.50 for a good sized portion. The rice rolls were soft! The pork tender, and I loved the sweet soy they give you on the side to pour over. Would come back for this. Mochi x 4 - They offer peanut, matcha red bean, and red bean. I'm not a matcha girl so didn't try that one but got 2 each of the peanut and red bean ones for $1.50 each. The mochi is a good size, loved the texture and chew. I didn't see anyone included a cross section of the peanut mochi so I made sure to get one for yall. TBH the red bean was more to my taste, and I really wish they had fruit options. The peanut one had a peanutty sugar inside, which was a bit too sweet for me. They're all rolled in coconut shreds too, so they're pretty messy. Hot dog bun - The bun is big but the dogs are tiny.. Also, the bun was dry af. The scallions on top were so toasted they fell off, and the weenies were also a bit dry.. They also didn't sit up nicely on the bun, but sank down into the holes on the bread. I took a bite of it "fresh" and wasn't impressed so took it home to heat up and dip in sauce. It's super bready... and just overall boring. Wouldn't waste the dollars on this. Sesame Ball x 2 - Small for the price. Not fresh at all even though we stopped by at 9 AM. Had a good chew once reheated and red bean filling was good, but def have had waaaay better. Red Bean Mochi Biscuit - Basically a pan fried stuffed mochi. Super super soggy. I wanted BBQ pork but got red bean instead. Same filling as the sesame ball. Decent, but could have been better texturally. All of this came out to $19.09. For $20, I would have expected better.
We still love this bakery after ownership change. My husband likes the big steamed buns and shiu mai. My son likes the hot dog buns and custard tarts. Come early if you can. Lines get long, but staff are pretty efficient. No dine-in.
Been here a number of times. I stopped by after having lunch nearby early Wednesday afternoon. I was craving custard tarts so I stopped in to grab some. There was a small line but it moves fast. Staff were friendly. They only accept cash or debit card. There's plenty of parking.
My better half came in and picked up a to-go order for a birthday get together! It had been a while since we've been here. We had the BBQ Pork Buns and some of the Apple turnovers. OMGOODNESS!! The BBQ Pork Buns were fresh! I'm embarrassed to say I was a pig and scarfed it down so fast! The apple turnovers were very soft and flaky. So good!! Overall, an excellent place to have lunch, dinner, or take to a potluck! I was told that our order was quick and the folks here were friendly. I'll be back for other menu items.....
Tried ABC Bakery today and picked up some quick bites. The egg tart was $2.50 each and the large steamed buns are $4 each. The egg tart was really good flaky crust, lightly sweet, and not overly eggy. The steamed buns were delicious too, with a great meat-to-bun ratio and very filling. This is more of a grab and go food spot with no seating, but they also offer catering and have a good variety of other bakery and hot food options. I'd definitely come back to try more items.
You can't go wrong with anything on the menu--the dim sum is fantastic, affordable, and quick. It's authentic comfort food and the locals favorite. Beyond the warm aesthetic, the service here is pretty good. The staff is friendly, attentive, and genuinely welcoming,
This place has has made some changes in their rude attitudes and customer service. We use to order here a lot but their service was pretty bad, they didn't let you order in advance and they stop taking cards for a while as I could remember. So we stop going here for a long while, but we have heard from some friends they have been much better in service, they let you order in advance now & take debit or cash only. Their buns are delish and they have good dim sum. The lines are no longer as long as they use to be when we got there around 930am on a Saturday. We waited about 3mins for our order to be taken and the gal that helped us was super nice. If you're looking for some good Asian pastries or dim sum this the place is a must try.

Stopped by this bakery on the way to Reno and so glad we did. No dine inn strictly to go. I really wanted to try the pineapple bun pork BBQ but they were already sold out and just ended up trying the regular baked bbq bun which was good and had a lot of meat inside. We also got some chicken feet,shrimp har gaw,pork dumlpling and let me tell you it was huge,meaty and not dry, sparerib with rice noodle and brisket rice noodle all were amazing. We tried apple turnover and probably was not my favorite. Overall will definietly come back for some dimsum and bbq buns. read more

I'm literally so mad at myself for living in Sac for over 20 years and only trying this place today. I saw a review on The Taste Duo's Instagram and finally decided to give it a shot--and let me tell you, they weren't lying. The hype is real. Almost everything we ordered was amazing! Pineapple buns - Yass!! My new favorite. Absolutely get them. I'm honestly sad I only bought two. 10/10. We also tried the shumai, shrimp roll, hargow, sesame balls, egg tarts, steamed pork buns, fried pork buns, and the mochi with red beans. The mochi was the best I've ever had, hands down. The only thing I didn't care for was the egg tarts--they were a bit too eggy for me. The crust was good, but I prefer the filling texture of 85°C Bakery's version. We went around 9:30am, service was great, even though there was a line, they kept it going pretty quickly. Clean nice little shop! Can't wait to go back and try even more! read more
ABC bakery has been a Sacramento favorite for probably decades. Nowadays, there are many more places in Sacramento where you can buy dim sum. But, ABC bakery is still the place you can go to for a tremendous variety of foods that you can't easily get elsewhere from a singular place. That's quite a feat. And, they've managed to keep their prices reasonable and continue to churn out fresh dim sum throughout the day. Ambiance is no frills. One line, know what you want. It's a cash or debit establishment so remember that before you step into the queue. The line generally moves well as long as the customer knows what they want and orders swiftly. The slowness is almost always due to the customer because the workers hustle to get people in and out. My favorites at ABC bakery include the shrimp dumplings, bak tong go, siu mai, and pineapple buns. The buns (bread) themselves are fantastic in the pineapple buns, bbq pork buns, and curry chicken :pillowy and tender. But, the bbq pork filling and curry chicken filling are average. read more
It has been a while since I have been here. I used to come more often when I lived closer. I heard the bakery was under new ownership. I called ahead and ordered three dozen BBQ Pork Buns a head of time for a work function. When I went to pick them up. I saw a sign for cash only. This was a very inconvenience for me. Now a days, I just don't carry cash anymore. Good thing my bank is across the street. I went to get cash and went back to the store. Now, I look at their prices on their board. The prices of the buns are not the same as online. They have raised their prices. So now, I'm short of cash! I went back to my car. I remember I had a bunch of quarters. I remember, they use to take credit cards. I guess under the new ownership, they don't want to deal with the fees of the credit cards. But they can put the fees back to the customers. There are ways. It just became a hassle for me, and I was pressed for time. Truly and inconvenience. The BBQ Pork buns were ok. The ratio of meat to bun was not there, little meat. The flavor was not as expected, a little bland. I remember the buns were a lot better. read more
I've always wanted to stop by and on many occasions I attempted to stop by I always left because of the very long lines. I finally had a chance last week and of course the lines were long. I waited about 30 minutes before I can place my order and was excited because I thought the long lines meant the food was amazing. I ordered pork dumplings, shrimp dumplings, barbecue pork buns, and rice wrapped with chicken. After I got home, I tried the pork dumplings and shrimp dumplings and found that there was a slight after taste. I couldn't really pinpoint what it was whether it was the white pepper that was overwhelming or what it was. The portion is generous. The baked barbecue buns were fluffy and round, but the stuffing on the inside was rather dry. I'm used to the filling being savory. I've been going here for the last 3-4 years and this was one of my go to's when passing by on my way to Roseville. In the past year or so I've noticed that the quality of their food has gone downhill. The steam bun use to have a lot of stuffing but now it's nothing but pieces of fat that I personally can't stomach. Their Sui-Mai was always top notch, but now it's weird tasting and the texture is weird. They must've changed the chef here because a lot of their menu items are not what it used to be. I think I'm done coming here as the quality has gone downhill bad. read more
Perennially great food. This time around I got some egg custard tarts, pineapple buns and steamed shrimp dumplings. Is it my imagination or did the dumplings get smaller? They're still a very decent size but feel.smaller....or maybe im bigger these days. These are excellent. The shrimp taste and texture of the wrap as always is excellent. The pineapple buns have a good mix of pineapple flavor and sweet bun taste. The custard tarts are my favorite...I feel taste even better cold. This place and been remodeled and expanded and looks good. Still.too crowded on weekend mornings and may require a bit of a wait. read more

Still on this personal journey to find the BEST takeout dim sum in Sacramento and this time we visited ABC Bakery. I've heard many different things about this place and decided to give it a shot. This takeout spot is located in the shopping center near Raleys on Florin. As soon as we walked in we were greeted by the staff as well as a huge line of people waiting to get their grub on a cold Sunday morning. The ambiance is alright for a takeout spot. I might've seen one table inside but it isn't really a spot to sit in and dine. They offer variety of different goods like bao and potstickers but I was looking for Siu Mai and Har Gow. While I did like the siu mai and its GOOD flavor , I didn't really like with the Har Gow. The filling wasn't very flavorful and tbh wasn't my favorite of the many places Ive been to. ABC bakery is good but I expected more from all the things I was told about its I would come back but it's honestly not my preferred destination. read more
Haven't been back here in a while. Decided to make a stop since I've been wanting some chicken curry buns. Yum . They're the only bakery I know that makes it and it always satisfies the tummy . Besides the curry buns the bbq pork buns are delicious too. I got an order of the bbq steam rice noodles as well. The foods are still delicious but the prices have definitely gone up. Will continue to support in the future when I want more chicken curry buns. read more
It was my first time here and i can't believe been missing out on this amazing dim sum spot my whole life! There's no seating and there was a line of about 10 people that went by fairly fast because the workers were efficient and fast. The service was great as they're friendly and provided everything we needed. We got the hargow, steamed bbq pork bun and shrimp rice noodle and i highly recommend getting these items. For some reason I was craving some dim sum. I remember hearing about ABC Bakery and decided to stop by. The bakery is a bit hidden as it's not in the "main" lot. It's a small place for basically take out. No seats, as expected. The service was good. I guess I should've checked the menu here on Yelp before stopping by, because they didn't really have much beef and chicken items. I was really hoping for some beef siu mai. Anyways, the only beef thing they had was the rice noodle. I decided to try both the beef and the brisket rice noodle. Also got an order of their regular chicken bun. I found the chicken bun bland. I wouldn't recommend it. The beef rice noodles were just ok. I prefer the brisket and it seems to have more meat. The rice noodle itself was plain, no additional brisket in it. The regular beef rice noodle was just ok. I had better. I guess my expectations were too high, and I was just disappointed that there's no beef siu mai. If anyone knows a place here in Sac that has good beef siu mai, let me know! At least now I can say I tried this place out. But unfortunately I will not make a trip out here again. read more

This bakery sells affordable and delicious dim sum! There was a line when I was there on Friday noon but it moved relatively fast (about 15 mins). There were a lot of variations so I had to type the items that I wanted on my phone and ordered it at the cashier. - mochi custard: delicious! The custard had perfect sweetness & the mochi was chewy: perfect combination! - peanut mochi: good. The mochi was chewy and the peanut filling had a perfect balance of salty & sweet. - egg custard: good. The custard was smooth & had a perfect sweetness. The shell was flaky and crispy. - sesame ball: ok. The outer dough was crispy and not too thick. The red bean filling was good but I wish there was more of it. - fried pork dumpling: good. The dough was crispy & chewy. The filling was tasty but too little. - pork siu mai: delicious! Each one was big so it was worth it for the price. Came here on a Sunday morning with a line of about a dozen people in front of me that moved quickly. The place is small but decent run of options for takeout dim sum. The har gow and siu mai we solid, and very meaty with good flavor. The spongecake was slightly fluffy and reminded me of my childhood. The shrimp and beef rice noodles were solid as well. prices are slightly less than what you would pay for sitdown, dim sum, but good place for a quick snack. read more
When I arrived, there was a short line inside the shop, but it moved quickly as there were many ladies working around the store. They sell a variety of breads and dim sum, as well as mooncakes. The price is quite affordable. If you have a big party, it's worth getting a dozen of their items. Be aware that they only accept cash and debit cards, not credit cards. Great place to get dim sum if you don't want to deal with the hassle of ordering from a restaurant or eating inside a business. This is more a Togo dim sum spot. Food was decent and price is okay. I've been here twice now and there was a line each time, but it moves pretty quickly. The food is good, but will add up if you're not careful. The desserts are okay. There are other places that do it better. The buns are decent as well. Service is typical of a chinese/asian place, seems unfriendly, but there is no rudeness or intention of it. Place is small though so best he prepared with you're order once you reach the register. I'll stop by when I crave dim sum on the go. read more

A hidden Gem on Florin Rd. There's so many delicious treats you can try. But a must try is the Egg Custard tart. Don't let the long line scare you the service is fast. No seating everything is to go. read more

I just went to ABC Bakery last month and I did not see any turnip cake or Hong Kong style milk tea on the menu.
Do they have the cocktail bun or egg custard baos?
They have both but the cocktail buns seem to run out quickly.
Do they do bulk orders if called ahead for a party?
Yes they do! They did for Christmas! Just call them and order. If you live nearby and go in person to pay, You can skip the lines on day of pick up. They do not take payments over the phone. Hope this helps 😊

The only item might be their steamed pork spareribs, but even that might have a thickener in the gravy.

No , they don't !! They have mostly dim-sum , cookies, bread and pastries..
