We still love this bakery after ownership change. My husband likes the big steamed buns and shiu mai. My son likes the hot dog buns and custard tarts. Come early if you can. Lines get long, but staff are pretty efficient. No dine-in.

So my coworker and brand new member of the Elite Team,Dan H. surprised me at work the other day with a few baked items from ABC Bakery-it was an unexpected surprise and I was for sure happy about it. A little background-I've lived in Sacramento area for almost 30 years and never been to ABC Bakery and of course I've heard of it for years-it's a legendary place, but I guess my travels around the Sacramento area just never got me to ABC Bakery,so one day I was going to his house and I saw the bakery was like 2 minutes from his house and I was like "how have I never stopped there after all this time"...Well that day,Dan H fixed that problem-sorta. So here is what he brought me and what I thought of them. -Shrimp Dumpling-I like this-I put some chili oil on it and it was super tasty-this one I will order again. 7.9/10 item -Pork Dumpling-this one I didn't love as much-not sure if it was maybe I didn't eat it hot off the oven but I don't know-just tasted a bit off-maybe too much straight pork which sounds crazy-but maybe that's it-6.1/10 item -Chicken Curry Bun-this one was amazing-almost the best item of the meal-I am not sure if I'm supposed to put chili oil and soy vinegar on this but I did and man those flavors popped-the bun itself was so soft and tasty-I really loved this and would get it again-8.3/10 item -Pork Bun-last but for sure not least-the classic Pork Bun and it was great-practically flawlesss-perfect bun perfect seasonings on meat, perfect taste-about the only thing wrong with it was that I didn't have 5 of em to eat-it was really great-I will for sure get this item again-9.3/10 item After eating these items-I get why this place is held in such high regard.Of course I'm left with the thought that as good as the items were,I think they would be better if I was in the store eating these things fresh out the oven-my favorite pork bun bakery in NYC Chinatown serves them fresh right out of the oven and they r off the charts great-so now I feel I have to get to this bakery in person and get the entire ABC Bakery experience-maybe this weekend-I am off this weekend-I think I can make that happen. In closing-from what I've experienced so far ABC Bakery is so legit-stay tuned for part 2 of this review when I actually make it into the bakery-Stay Safe Out There.

Steamed bun $4 prior to tax

ABC Bakery is located in the same plaza as O' Reilly's Auto Parks, specifically right next door to Florin Nails & Spa with a large shared parking lot. I came by here with my husband on a Friday afternoon, around 1:45 pm. There was a line of maybe 7 other parties ahead of us. When it was our turn, we ended ordering: 2 shrimp balls $2 each- These shrimp balls were nice and crunchy, as they are wrapped in spring roll wrapper strips and then deep fried to give you that nice crispy crunch. My husband and I both enjoyed these, but they were a little oily and wished they were drained a little bit more. 2 haw gaw $1.50 each- These were good. They tasted pretty standard. The size for the price was also fine. 2 shiu mai $1.50 each- These were also good and felt the size was acceptable for the price. 1 steamed bun $4- This bun had sausage, a hard boiled egg and pork inside. Although the filling inside was tasty, I didn't like that there was so much of the bun and not enough of the filling to match. ------------------------------ (Total= $15.23 after tax) Please note that this place is CASH only (or you can pay with your debit card). Unfortunately at the time we arrived, ABC Bakery was already out of cheong fun or rice noodle. Actually what really surprised me was that the to go dim sum places that I have gone to in Sacramento don't seem to normally have cheong fun on their menu. But back home in San Gabriel Valley, where I live, that seems to be a staple at every to go dim sum eatery (I always order cheong fun). Service was friendly and wait time wasn't too long, even though there was a line. The employees helping me were able to speak both Cantonese and English so you shouldn't have trouble if you come here. The next time I come by here, I will have to make sure to come much earlier so that I don't miss out on things that already sold out.

This place was poppin but I have to say, it's pretty hit or miss. Pros- The line moves fast, multiple people are taking orders. All the girls working the register were young and spoke English. Everything in the case is labeled and they also have menus posted on the wall and by the case. They do recommend you have a list ready when it's your turn to order. It helps with the flow of things. Prices are decent. In a plaza, so parking is abundant. Cons- Cash and debit cards only. Even though English is spoken, there still was some miscommunication. I asked for the spare ribs rice roll and she almost gave me something else. I also ordered the BBQ pork mochi biscuit but she gave me a Red Bean one. Items are not really fresh. Spare ribs rice roll - This was so good and only $5.50 for a good sized portion. The rice rolls were soft! The pork tender, and I loved the sweet soy they give you on the side to pour over. Would come back for this. Mochi x 4 - They offer peanut, matcha red bean, and red bean. I'm not a matcha girl so didn't try that one but got 2 each of the peanut and red bean ones for $1.50 each. The mochi is a good size, loved the texture and chew. I didn't see anyone included a cross section of the peanut mochi so I made sure to get one for yall. TBH the red bean was more to my taste, and I really wish they had fruit options. The peanut one had a peanutty sugar inside, which was a bit too sweet for me. They're all rolled in coconut shreds too, so they're pretty messy. Hot dog bun - The bun is big but the dogs are tiny.. Also, the bun was dry af. The scallions on top were so toasted they fell off, and the weenies were also a bit dry.. They also didn't sit up nicely on the bun, but sank down into the holes on the bread. I took a bite of it "fresh" and wasn't impressed so took it home to heat up and dip in sauce. It's super bready... and just overall boring. Wouldn't waste the dollars on this. Sesame Ball x 2 - Small for the price. Not fresh at all even though we stopped by at 9 AM. Had a good chew once reheated and red bean filling was good, but def have had waaaay better. Red Bean Mochi Biscuit - Basically a pan fried stuffed mochi. Super super soggy. I wanted BBQ pork but got red bean instead. Same filling as the sesame ball. Decent, but could have been better texturally. All of this came out to $19.09. For $20, I would have expected better.

Neighborhood Gem located on the back side of the Bel Air at Florin & South Land Park, featuring both baked and steamed buns, as well as dumplings and assorted baked goods strictly on a to-go basis. I got my favorite Chicken Curry baked bun, a BBQ Pork bun, and tried a Pineapple baked bun with BBQ Pork, a pork dumpling and shrimp dumpling. Every item is fantastic in flavor, but the star for me was the Pineapple BBQ pork bun, the combination of flavors with the Crust on the bun made me wish for more. They are usually very busy and can often be low on some of the buns as they also take call in orders . Dont be afraid to grab a dozen of the baked buns as they reheat easily and make for a nice snack or meal. (I can't speak for the steamed buns, baked buns all the way for me)

Been here a number of times. I stopped by after having lunch nearby early Wednesday afternoon. I was craving custard tarts so I stopped in to grab some. There was a small line but it moves fast. Staff were friendly. They only accept cash or debit card. There's plenty of parking.

    Egg tart
    Rich S.

Tried ABC Bakery today and picked up some quick bites. The egg tart was $2.50 each and the large steamed buns are $4 each. The egg tart was really good flaky crust, lightly sweet, and not overly eggy. The steamed buns were delicious too, with a great meat-to-bun ratio and very filling. This is more of a grab and go food spot with no seating, but they also offer catering and have a good variety of other bakery and hot food options. I'd definitely come back to try more items.

My better half came in and picked up a to-go order for a birthday get together! It had been a while since we've been here. We had the BBQ Pork Buns and some of the Apple turnovers. OMGOODNESS!! The BBQ Pork Buns were fresh! I'm embarrassed to say I was a pig and scarfed it down so fast! The apple turnovers were very soft and flaky. So good!! Overall, an excellent place to have lunch, dinner, or take to a potluck! I was told that our order was quick and the folks here were friendly. I'll be back for other menu items.....

One of the best in Sac, dare I say best in NorCal! Always fresh and delicious. I got their pineapple buns for the first time and OMG I have been missing out! Of course, got the usual bbq buns and a variety of dim sum items. The egg rolls are underrated; thinking about them now as I write this and now I'm craving one! Also, I was here on a Thursday around lunch time and it was PACKED.

Always a good bakery stop for takeout dimsum! Today I enjoyed the mochi charchui pork and the mochi red bean for a late afternoon snack. Hit the spot not my favorite pork but very good.

Came on a Sunday morning around 8am! The menu is very easy to read and they have so many options to choose from! The line wasn't too long this morning. The cashiers taking orders were very nice and efficient, happy to answer any questions I had. I ordered 3 pineapple buns with filling, 2 sui mai, 2 shrimp ride noodle and a beef rice noodle. Most things are ready right when you order but because it's made fresh, when they run out there is a wait sometimes. When I got the pineapple buns in my hand they were still nice and warm, a decent size as well compared to some dimsum spots. The filling was nice and sweet, not the typical nai wong custard but a coconut, thicker filling that was nice and sweet. The bread was so soft as well and the crust was nice flaky and crunchy. It was very satisfying to bite into, no complaints here! 9/10 The sui mai was piping hot when I got it as well. They were very big and meaty and so fresh when I bit into them. Super juicy and fulfilling to eat! 8.5/10 Lastly the rice noodles, which are my favorite of all time dimsum foods. The shrimp one had such a good bite to it because of the shrimp. The rice noodles were thin and soft just how I like them! The beef one I wish had a bit more beef/beef flavor to it but still good! In addition the sweet soy sauce they give is a good balance of sweet and salty as well, would def recommend! 8.5 Overall I would definitely come back! Such a good place to pick up dimsum to go! I saw the sweet rice cake was very popular as well and would love to try that next time!

    Chicken curry bao

Jus wanted to add updated menu, ordered 3 chicken curry baos for 7.83 total. Kinda mid, lacking flavor and needs more filling.

    Large cookie. Bigger than Crumbl's.

Food is delicious! 5 stars. Mochi is cheap yet high quality and so soft and fresh. Only reason I'm giving it four stars and not five is because they are either cash only or debit. No credit cards accepted. No dine in; take out only. Located behind the Bel Air grocery store.

Do they have turnip cake or HK style milk tea?

I just went to ABC Bakery last month and I did not see any turnip cake or Hong Kong style milk tea on the menu.

Do they have the cocktail bun or egg custard baos?

They have both but the cocktail buns seem to run out quickly.

Do they do bulk orders if called ahead for a party?

Yes they do! They did for Christmas! Just call them and order. If you live nearby and go in person to pay, You can skip the lines on day of pick up. They do not take payments over the phone. Hope this helps 😊

    Do they do catering?

    Yes

Are you guys no longer making the steamed custard buns. Has it been discontinued?

They still have custard buns You just have to call ahead to see if they have it

Do they still make Cocktail Bao? We used to order it years ago.

I believe the item is discontinued, I didn't see it displayed or on the menu last time I went. But you can always call to ask!

There has been some chatter that ABC may decide to close for good in the near future due to a raise in rent costs. Can anyone confirm if this is true? WE CANNOT LOSE THIS NEIGHBORHOOD GEM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The old owners sold the business but ABC will stay open.

Are they still accepting only cash?

No, they do take debit but have a $20.00 minimum to use a card.

    Do they take Apple Pay?

No, only cash and debit card.

Does ABC Bakery deliver or has access delivery service ; ie: Dash? Or any other delivery?

As of 7/24/23, online states they are temporarily closed. Does anyone know when they are reopening?

Do they take debit card or is it cash only?

    Debit or cash only

Does anyone know if ABC will sell any items individually packaged, for a socially-distanced celebration?

No, but for a bakery that will, check out Pegasus Bakery on Stockton Blvd

Will they be open Christmas week?

    Closed Monday and Christmas Day

    Are they selling mooncake yet?

Personally I wouldn't buy any from them, i go to Asians market to buy good quality moon cake that's made in HK only (Maxim or Wing Wah) are excellent $35 to $50 a can, go to Costco if you're on a budget, they're made in Taiwan, I've seen them the… Read more

    Are any items gluten free?

The only item might be their steamed pork spareribs, but even that might have a thickener in the gravy.

    Did they re open?

Yes, they reopened about two weeks ago.

    Are they open during coronavirus?

They are temporarily closed due to the virus

Do they make baos all day? I'm thinking about buying some late in the afternoon.

I've never seen them run out of bags.

Does anyone happen to know if they make the Chinese bakery style birthday cakes?

No , they don't !! They have mostly dim-sum , cookies, bread and pastries..

Do you know if they accept large orders ahead of time, like 3-4 dozens of each item and if there are discounts?

Yes I order 2-4 dozen regularly. Same day morning of works.

Its been so bad the past decade that we decided to give it another chance. Different management, different chefs, different everything basically. The fried flounder was so fried that I could not separate the bones, not only that, you could barely get any meat out of it. Our table had nine people and they only provided 6 buns with our peking duck. I thought they didn't have enough steamer space and was going to bring more but nope. The shrimp in their salted egg pumpkin and shrimp dishes was overcooked and their deep fried pig intestines were extremely stinky. Their portion sizes downsized like crazy and it's so bad that we didn't even finish any of the dishes. The best dish was a stir fry cauliflower dish that I could make at home. It was supposed to come with pork, but I only saw itty bitty pieces of meat. The service was also super bad and slow. I was eating their fried rice and bit on a piece of broken yellow plastic with multiple sharp points. Prior to that, I was feeding my toddler the rice so THANKFULLY it didn't go to him. When we told the server, which was an older lady with glasses and bangs, she's like oh... then she took it to the kitchen and pretended that nothing had ever happened when she came back out. Shes been there for years, and I remember seeing her when we were regulars. I wasn't expecting anything, except for some accountability. I used to love this place so it's pretty sad to see how much it went downhill.... This business needs to be scrapped. The current 3 stars is giving them too much credit and it must have been due to when they used to be good, in the past.

I first went here with family who was visiting from out of town. It was my first time and we ordered dim sum during lunch hour. The food was good, but we had a hard time ordering more dim sum after two rounds since the servers kept bypassing our table. All the dim sum dishes were good. There was a good lunch crowd also. Enough to stay busy, but not overwhelming. We ordered the shu mai, pork Turnover, crispy shrimp noodle wrap, spare ribs, bokchoy. Everything was decent and tasted fresh. Second time here, we decided to eat here for a mother's/father's day celebration. We went for dinner around 6 pm on a weeknight. We ordered a lot of food. We had the duck, empress chicken, salt and pepper spare ribs, various dim sum dishes (mainly same from my 1st time here), fried rice, chow mien, seafood clay pot, and crispy shrimp balls. Everything tasted great again and my parents actually liked it. They said prices are cheaper than our normal go to dim sum places so that's a huge plus. My favorite from all these dishes were the salt and pepper spare ribs. It had great texture and flavor. The restaurant itself has a lot of tables and is roomy. They can fit a good sized crowd, but part of the dining area is closed off. The workers are nice, but can bypass you so you might have to be a bit more assertive to get what you need. Parking can be tight as well, so you can try the neighborhood or park across the street on the target lot. I'll try to come here again to try more dim sum and the salt and pepper spare ribs.

We have tried to dine here a few times last year but had to leave. Why? there was always a moderate smell of propane gas that permeated the dining area...so we opted to leave each time. But today, there was not a propane odor so we decided to dine in and try a few dishes again. So what did we order: 1) Salted fish and chicken fried rice: this dish was very good. flavors of dried salted fish was evident throughout each bite. you could even see the tiny pieces of salted dried fish. nice. chicken was tender. rice kernels did not stick or clump together like some places. And there were pieces of fresh ginger. This dish was very enjoyable. would order this dish again without hesitation. 2) bitter melon and beef in black bean sauce. Another nice flavorful dish. My only suggestion was just a little too sweet for me. I understand the goal is to balance out the bitter by adding sugar but I actually like the bitter flavor and will ask them to eliminate adding sugar to this dish in the future. But if you like this dish with a bitter and more sweet taste, this is your dish. 3) combo plate: chow mein and chicken with broccoli in garlic sauce. Just a basic american style combination dish. Personally, not my type of dish, but my dining companion enjoys these type of dishes. She said the chicken was tender and there was planet of chicken in this entree. But she never received her egg roll. Overall- i would comeback just for the non american style chinese dishes. there versions of traditional chinese dishes are better than the american chinese style dishes.
