I live next to Walmart on the Westend of Billings, I have a small 19' Motorhome and I was having some battery issues. I parked on the service side of the store to have it looked at. During the 24 hours, it was parked Abel Tow confiscated it and took it to his lot in Lockwood. When I came back at 11:16 PM and saw it was gone I called the Billings Police Department who gave me Abel Tow's phone number. I then called at that time, the tow company Ray Myers Owner of Abel Tow answered. He was Rude and very aggressive! He said, "My MH had been parked there for several days, and he had a contract with Walmart to 'Patrol' their lot for abandon vehicles." He told me it would cost $280.00 for the tow and $75.00 a day for storage. I had until Midnight to bring 'Cash Only' after midnight it would be an additional $75.00. He knew I was not able to get cash and drive to Lockwood before midnight. So the next day, I had to hire someone to go with me to get my MH total cost for me was $430,00 to Abel Tow/Ray Myers plus $125,00 for helping to retrieve the MH from Lockwood. I want to make it very clear, Walmart never called to have me towed, I was not parked illegally and Walmart has no contracted with any company for towing. Mr. Myers/Abel Tow removed my MH without any permission from me as owner and no permission from Walmart as the private property owner. That would be theft under any circumstances. read more

One example was a poor fellow that had his vehicle stolen the day before, it was recovered and towed to their facility and they wanted to charge the vehicle owner 480 bucks just to get it back. Abel towings owner had contacted me about a vehicle that they towed that used to belong to me years ago. They couldn't get ahold of the owner and they had found an old registration with my name on it and proceeded to find me on Facebook. I got ahold of them and told them that the vehicle isn't mine and that the title is on the person I sold it to. They told me that since they can't get ahold of that person that I'm responsible and if I don't pay their outrageous tow bill and fees that he will send me to collections. I managed to get ahold of the owner and the owner managed to call them to let them now that they are the owners. Abel towing was rude and very unprofessional. Crushed a car with my belongings in it before insurance had settled. No release was signed the vehicle was A PIECE OF EVIDENCE which he got rid of before insurance could value the vehicle. Lied about me talking to him previously about the vehicle when I have time stamp of when I called and he told me I couldn't get my clothes n Things out until insurance settles. Awful service. I called to see if I could retrieve some crucial belongings from my vehicle after being in a 4 car pile up. This was a few hours after the accident after just getting out of the ER. I just needed my wallet since it has all of my important cards in it. He immediately asked if I was going to pay my bill and said no that I cannot retrieve my belongings. Mind you someone else totaled my car by hitting the rear end at high speed. He said I was driving so I had to deal with it. I can't pay anything without my cards. I was towed from a parking lot at 12:30 on a Friday night, in a town that I'm not familiar with. My car had been parked there for less than 20 minutes and there was only one parking related sign outside the building where we had parked. Not only was it not well lit or easily visible, the phone number listed on the sign was incorrect. But whatever, stuff happens. So once I figured out what company had towed me, I called to get things figured out. Whoever I spoke to became pretty belligerent and began cussing me out. Not only did he cuss out a 22 year old girl, he also hung up on me. Trash through and through and I hope to never have to interact with such unprofessional, trashy people again. On November 14th between 7:00 Pm and 11:15 Pm my car was towed from Sam's place. There was not a single sign in the parking spot nor the adjacent one that said "No parking" or "Sam's patrons only " or anything of that nature. By 11:15 it was snowing heavily and winds were about 15-20 MPH, it was well below zero. When the man answered I asked if he had the make and model of my car and he replied "Yes I do it's going to be $320 cash only. If you can't get it by midnight it will be 360 cash only and go up an hourly rate." When I asked where I could meet him he said "I can't tell you who I am or where your car is but call me back When You've got the money in hand and want your car" At this time I did not have the money, nor were any banks open so I started frantically calling my family and friends desperately asking for money or ride home, seeing No other option but to play this bullies game. if I wanted to continue to keep my job I needed my vehicle. Once I got home my father called this man to get more information but with No luck. Surprisingly this man was even ruder to my father. He kept telling my father to stop wasting his time and asking him if he wanted the car or not. He lied to my father saying I got a warning in the parking lot of a $280 fee. That never transpired and I have witnesses to that! He told my father to only call him back When he had the money of $320 and that he did not accept credit cards or checks only cash. Once my father had the money in hand he called back. The man kept asking our address but would not disclose his. He demanded money in hand before taking us to the vehicle, as well as proof of ownership and identity. we agreed upon meeting up at the holiday gas station on 20th and king. he said he was busy downtown and we would have to wait a while. After Meeting up and giving him the money ($320) we followed up 20th, down monad a few blocks to Bernard, to find my car the only one in the lot. On the 15th of November 2014 my truck was towed from Sam's Place at 717 16th St W, Billings, Mt 59102 along with 10-20 other vehicles. This predatory tow was conducted by Abel Tow of Billings, Mt between the hours of 23:00 and 24:00. Upon learning of this happening we made contact with Ray Myers of Abel Tow on location. On first interaction with Ray he informed me that it would be 340$ cash to get my truck at this time. I then talked with my wife. Moments later on second contact with Ray I asked if I waited until morning the cost would be? He informed me 320$ more or it was now 320$. I then returned to talk to my wife as it was very concerning that the price was fluctuating. At this time there were multiple parties trying to do business with this Predatory Tow Service. I then returned to talk with Ray. Ray who now said 300$ and I could retrieve my truck that night. I said I only had 280$ would he be willing to release my truck for said price. He said if I placed the moneys in his hand within 2 minutes. I quickly ran to adjacent ATM at a gas station and withdrew the monies. On returning to the parking lot Ray tried to drive away without communicating with me. I flagged him down and communicated I had the money he requested and that I wanted to be taken to the truck. He rudely stated money in my hand or no truck. I ask how am I to guarantee you will take me to me truck if I hand you the money, or will you just drive off and leave me here short 280$. I also stated that he was really pulling of a great scam. He said "you want the truck or not." I felt victimized and terrorized by this individual and his scare tactics as the weather conditions at this time were sub-zero temperatures with wind-chill factors placing temperatures in the -18 degree range. Without this truck I would be stranded in life threatening conditions. This Company and this man, Ray Myers put not only me and my wife in harm's way, as well as the numerous other citizens of this fair state. Post giving Ray the money with reluctance I then traveled with a friend and my wife following Ray to an undisclosed tow yard that belonged to a second tow company Action Towing of 1207 S.32nd St. Billings Mt. 59102. Ray then released the truck to me without providing receipt of our transaction and we left. I am writing this complaint to request fair return of funds of 280$ and to further protect my fellow man from this Predator. read more
