Despite my minimal prior driving experience, Abel's Driving School led me to PASS my driving exam on the FIRST try - with an Abel Car, nonetheless. First off, my instructors were always on time or early, and I love that they pick you up at your residence. All of my instructors have been calm and always provided constructive feedback. Their feedback definitely helped to refine my driving skills and gave me the confidence needed to drive in LA! They especially made driving through busy streets and freeways less stressful than I imagined. Not only were my instructors amazing educators, but have the most friendly and lighthearted attitudes! Definitely enjoyed the conversations during my lessons. Amidst COVID-19, they make sure to take your temperature and have the vehicle sanitized upon entering. In addition, all the vehicles I've driven were new and operated smoothly (definitely a plus for when I took my exam). I recommend anyone, regardless of age, to use their service! Abel Driving School was such an excellent experience! I scheduled the six hour driving lesson, which is two hours for three days and I was very nervous. My driving instructor for all three lessons was Derrick. He was absolutely amazing!!!! He knew I was nervous the first time and was super nice and helpful. He's very gentle and kind will definitely aid you in any situation and if he sees that you're nervous he'll crack a few jokes to get you loosened up. My daughter was extremely excited to obtain her permit and start driving. I researched quite a few driving schools before selecting Abel. The prices are reasonable and the instructors are great. The team is very thorough and explained all of the options available along with the pricing. I chose 10 hours for my daughter (so she only had to complete 40 hours with me ) which came to $555 (roughly $55/hour). They offer lessons in 2-hour increments at different times of the day so your child can be exposed to morning afternoon and evening driving. They also pick the student up from their front door - which was extremely convenient. All of the instructors are great, but they do allow you to stay with the same instructor as schedules allow. I recommend driving with different instructors each lesson because each offered my daughter different tip to pass her license. I would highly recommend Abel. I had a couple of lessons here and all the guy instructors are great! I just think they may be a little overworked since one did snap at me once why I wasn't doing something when it was my first time trying. Which is why I'm giving 4 stars . unfortunately the girl instructor I think her name was Cynthia could use some improvement. I had my last lessons with her and she spent most of her time on her phone and only decided to show me something new when the lesson was over. Had nothing but a good experience with this school. Prices are the most fair here in my research and they are good with scheduling. I had the pleasure of driving with 2 different instructors - Cynthia and Antero - and they left nothing to be desired afterward. I was very uncertain about driving beforehand, and now I am fairly confident in driving anywhere, both local and highways included. I purchased the three 2-hour lesson package. My experience at Abel's Driving School was AMAZING!!! I am 28 years old and have never really driven a car other than 2 times in the within 9 years. My instructor was DERRICK and he was extremely patient, gave me great instruction, and was extremely helpful. He guided me step by step and that made me feel more calm. He would take me driving to be able to drive in different residential areas, freeway, and main streets. I did have James for one of my sessions and he taught me how to pull into and away from the curbs. I learned a few things from James as well. I took a total of 7 sessions before taking the drivers test. The instructor picks you up at home and you get started from there. Make sure to ask if pick up is available for your area. Before you get in the vehicle the instructor takes your temperature and asks you questions, regarding Covid-19. When you are inside the vehicle the instructor gives you a Clorox wipe to wipe all the area others have touches as well as areas you will be touching. Remember you have to wear a mask while inside the vehicle. The vehicle is well kept and is always clean. I had no issues when it came to the vehicle itself. Any questions I had the instructors would answer. I would say the price is well worth the experience. Booking my schedules was really pleasant. The lady that would answer was really sweet and would let me know what availability there was. If there was a change to the hour or day of the session she would call and let me know. When it came time to book my DMV driving test I called and she helped me make the booking for the DMV of my choice. The day of the driving test the instructor picked me up 1 hour before my test to be able to practice a bit and be in line early. I was extremely nervous I wasn't going to know what to do but Derrick is a great instructor and guide. I am glad I took my lessons with Abels Driving School !!! You should definitely consider them! There was never a doubt about how bad of a driver I was. When I first got my permit at the age of 15 in Chicago, my mom feared for her life as she helped me practice. I didn't get my license and kind of failed the preliminary tests, so I never was courageous enough to try again. Fast forward 7 years and I still haven't attempted to get my license, but now live in LA where a license is a necessity. After practicing and almost dying a few times due to high anxiety and poor technique, I decided I need to go with a professional driving school which comes equipped with instructors and insurance (which alleviated some of my stress). I had a 2 hour lesson with Jose; Jose identified my weakness in anxiety and did his best to help me calm my nerves. I became a lot smoother of a driver and he helped me work on the things I was still pretty shaky on. My favorite part about driving with Jose rather than practicing with my mom or boyfriend was that he had utmost faith in me and didn't scream or panic when I made a mistake. His calmness helped me feel less anxious and gave me the confidence to take my driving test. In addition, these instructors are very familiar with the route you'd be taking at the DMV and also any tricks you need to know beforehand. I very seldom leave reviews but I had such a great experience with Abel's Driving School I figured it wouldn't be fair not to do so this time around. I opted to take several 2-hour lessons with Abraham, who's been absolutely awesome as my driving instructor. I needed practice as well as some encouragement to get through the stress of the driving test and Abraham has been great at making me feel confident in my ability to drive. I also opted to use Abel's Driving School's car for the test which was the perfect way to loosen up by driving on the way to the test location. Abel's is great! My 16 year old daughter had 3 lessons with Cinthia. She was very nervous before her first lesson, but Cinthia put her at ease. During the third lesson they went to the Culver City DMV and practiced the various routes for the driving test. Cinthia gave her lots of great tips in general and for the test specifically. Not only did my daughter pass on the first try, but she didn't get any point deductions. The woman who makes the reservations is very friendly and helpful as well. After many years of living in the US coming from the UK, I decided it was time to get my license. Having not driven in close to 10 years and also on the left side of the road, I was very nervous and unsure how to navigate the daunting LA traffic. My instructor was Derrick for all my lessons. He was a wonderful teacher--he explains things clearly and concisely and always in a calm manner. When explaining maneuvers or driving on the freeway, his professionalism and step-by-step guidance was helpful and encouraging. He also never missed a lesson, always punctual, courteous and patient. I passed the first time. I would highly recommend Derrick for any first-time drivers or refresher lessons. The receptionist who scheduled my lessons, took my payment and rang me to remind me of my upcoming lessons was always very courteous on the phone. Would heartily recommend Abel Driving School for learning how to drive, especially with instructor Luis! I'd learned on and off with friends before, but had to take an extended (1-2 year) hiatus from driving during the beginning of the pandemic. Needless to say, I was beyond rusty and effectively a complete beginner. However, after taking 6 classes with Luis (5 lesson package + 1 extra lesson), I passed the driving test without a hitch. Luis was very welcoming and made me feel right at home behind the wheel. He never complained when I asked the most basic questions, and explained how to drive and the rules of the road in a simple and straightforward manner. This is an underrated part of driving lessons. Friends and family can teach you, but most are not accustomed to teaching - they will not explain things as well, or may get annoyed easily, especially with things that are second nature to them but new for beginners. I went through all the basics and more with Luis, ramping up from street driving to topics like freeway driving, canyon driving, and even parallel parking. Although these are optional and not on the driving test, I would highly recommend doing it during a lesson, as it is much easier to learn with an instructor in the passenger seat. I feel confident and much less anxious attempting these on my own now. Fun fact - we even drove in heavy rain on my second lesson, which went surprisingly well given that LA drivers don't do well in the rain! Some tips for other students - I would go into each lesson with a plan on what you want to learn, and go over it with your instructor so you don't miss a topic. They may not offer to teach the optional topics unless you ask, and sometimes they're just busy and don't remember what they did with you last time. It also helps if you note down all the things you learned/did wrong after each lesson, so you can go over them before the next lesson or even the driving test. Finally, if you don't have a car to take your test on, *book your driving test appointment when you book your normal lessons*, preferably for right after your last lesson. You can always change locations or reschedule/cancel later. Their driving test appointments fill up fast, and I had to push back my driving test by 3 weeks (and add an extra lesson for practice!) because I booked mine too late! The freeway can be super intimidating, especially here in LA! I can't say how grateful and impressed I am with Abel driving school. I had less than a month to learn how to drive and pass the driving exam. I booked 10 hours (5 sessions) of driving lessons and within 2 weeks I passed my behind the wheel exam at the Hollywood DMV, which apparently has the lowest passing rate. Cynthia and Ricardo were the instructors I had and they were fantastic. They gave me great pointers , were patient, and made me feel calm and confident. They really let me use my judgement and critiqued me on what I needed to work on. I also booked them to use the car for my exam. The man who came and picked me up was also fantastic. (Wish I could Remember his name!) He was very popular at the DMV. Everyone knew him. He was very encouraging and gave me some great last minute pointers. This is my second child to go through Abel Driving School, at very different ages and both passed their behind the wheel test on the first try. My young adult daughter just passed her test today and we were lucky to have had Miguel as her instructor -- he has been amazing! Miguel knew how nervous my daughter was while driving and would find ways to get her to relax and focus. We opted to have Miguel bring her to the behind the wheel test and she used the car she had practiced in to test. I did the same with my younger daughter and I think it increased their comfort level. On two separate occasions I scheduled an appointment to take my driving test with Abel's Driving School. On both occasions I called to confirm the day before, and on both occasions they advised that they did not have an appointment scheduled for me and were unable to provide me with an instructor who could take me to my exam! I had even taken note of the date and the person I spoke with to scheduled the second appointment and they still responded with apathy when I informed them this was the second day I had requested off from work to take the driving exam. My son completed the online drivers education. We moved a few months ago, which was right when he completed the course, and he forgot to update the address on the account. So that's probably why we never received the certificate. I reached out to see if we can get another certificate and was told it would be $30. I understand having a fee, but $30 is steep. read more

I had an amazing experience with Abel's Driving school and I was able to pass my driving test within a month at the first attempt. I took three classes and all my instructors (James, Cynthia and the other one that I forgot to ask for his name) were knowledgeable and strategic about teaching driving. I learnt not only the necessary skills but also tips to become a better driver. When they sat next to me while I am driving, I felt being trusted, which definitely helped lessen my anxiety. Also, they take notes for you after each class, so the next time even if you have a different instructor they would know what to focus on.
