I contacted Abel's Marine concerning my engine not communicating over the network to the gauges. I was considering a mobile mechanic but they said to bring it in and they would get to look at it in just a couple days. (Which was a concern given where we were in the busy season for boating.) Well they were able to look at it the same day I dropped it off and had troubleshoot the problem and had a resolution for the issue. I picked it up the next morning and was pleased with the work and cost of the repairs. My bar is to do what you say you will do, and they clearly exceeded expectations and over delivered on their promise. So I could not be more pleased and will look to use them again whenever repairs are needed in the future. Thank You. P.S.: I want to say something about the office staff. Abel Marine On 4/29/2026 I took my Release Tarpon Bay 17 boat in for a water pump and it was running rough. Wanted a new water pump and figure out what the issue was with rough running condition. Two (2) weeks later I called them to see what progress they had made. Said oh we were going to call you today. She said the lower unit had a grinding noise in it, also added tilt/trim needed to be rebuilt. I asked what about it running rough, said could not find an issue with it. Said it would be a rough Estimate of 4 hours at $170/hr to diagnose lower unit issue. I told them to rebuild the tilt/trim and they didn't have an Estimate for that (my fault for not pressing for an Estimate). Told me a new lower unit would be $3800.00 without labor, I felt that was too much. Told them to reinstall lower unit with no water pump. I picked up the boat 2 weeks later when finished, left my lock on the hitch, asked where the key was said they didn't know. Got boat home, took lower unit off and heard no grinding, cap for input shaft had rust on it which they said entire lower unit was rusted. I purchased a new water pump assembly, new bearing cap. Installed on boat and put new oil in to proper levels. I installed new plugs which were replaced 8 months ago. Lower plug #4 came out real hard. Test ran boat and still ran like crap, rough running again. This is after I paid them $2054.76 for I guess nothing but a rebuilt tilt/trim assembly. I did a compression test on it: cyl: 1= 175psi cyl 2= 165psi cyl 3= 160psi cyl 4= 148psi. I then took it to another Suzuki dealer told them runs rough with the compression numbers I had. Also said noise (grinding) in lower unit. They called 2 days later and said cleaned carbon from motor, had good compression but still ran rough. Said new plugs I installed on cyl 3 & 4 were all rusty. They called Suzuki, Manufacturer told them to take all plugs out, put motor vertical, run water through muffs and look for water. Water was coming out cyl 3 & 4. That ment that the head or block had a crack. It was running on a maximum of 3 cylinders. So, I purchased a new motor. Abel Marine didn't check the engine out, screwed me on diagnosis for lower unit and took me for a ride on the tilt/trim assembly. I will NEVER recommend them to ANYONE !! Why are people not truthful and incompetent?? Guess they thought I was stupid. Lesson learned !! read more

Had an issue with a new mercury 6hp outboard ( wouldn't idle and leaked gasoline.) Abel's marine looked at it twice and adjusted the carburetor but didn't solve the issue. They said it wasn't a warranty issue. They charged me an excessive amount that should have been covered under warranty. They never discussed that the issue would not be covered under warranty or let me know that a really cheap fix would be replacing the carburetor with a new, $32 carburetor. They are dishonest and unskilled. read more

These folks are wonderful!! We tried to set out for a day of fishing only to discover our boat engine battery was dead. We thought we'd swing by Abel Marine to see if they could help. And help they did! They were able to switch out our battery and let us know we had the wrong type of battery in the first place. They cleaned all the connections, made sure the battery was strapped down safely and we were good to go in under an hour!! I dropped my boat off to have a water pump and belt installed. I was told they would get to it in a couple of days. It took over a month to get the work done. During this time I stopped by to check on my boat and was told the mechanic was too busy to talk to me. I got my boat back and found damage to my trailer/pole light, the bilge pump switch left on which burned up a brand new pump and the boat plug left in. This was done during rainy season so the boat was full. At a $100/hour this was not a good experience. read more
