The complimentary breakfast served the next morning was better than any restaurant. A mammoth omelet that was as light as it was flavorful was complimented by mouth watering blueberry stuffed french toast that could have been a meal (or dessert) all by itself. Our hosts Iris and Patrick were polite, helpful, friendly but never intrusive. If you have business or vacation plans anywhere near Lexington, VA, you owe yourself a stay at the 1868 Magnolia House Inn.

Only reason I gave it a 4 star is due to the free breakfast which is really not much better than no breakfast at all. Surprising as they have a small restaurant so you'd think they have the facilities to provide a more acceptable version. There's just coffee (weak), tea (hot water ran out and no one came to replace), old fruit, tubs of cereal (way too sweet) cartons of orange juice, milk and yogurt and some packaged granola bars and bagels, much more basic than most chain motels. Location is great however, right in the middle of town and there is free parking in a lot behind the hotel.

I particularly enjoyed relaxing on the porch looking out onto South Main Street one late summer Friday evening. My room was large, both the bed and sheets were comfortable, and the updated bathroom gave me some ideas for a potential future home revocation. Cheryl and Rob were friendly hosts who make sure you get a full meal to start the day. Visitors to Lexington themselves, as heir weekday home base is in northern Virginia, they appreciate trips out to the Shenandoah Valley as much as their guests! I would certainly recommend staying here, as I got to meet a 23 year old alum back for reunion and a couple from Australia traveling along the Blue Ridge Parkway. Don't be caught off guard when they ask for check payment and enjoy your stay in a beautiful home away from home. Great option to rent out the whole space of you have a few friends in town for a weekend. I'm a loyal Hilton Honors member, but my stay at Grace House has me ready to spend more time in B&B's worth my travels.

The location of Grace House is close enough to the downtown area of Lexington to walk to, and it also worked out perfectly and was spacious enough for the bridesmaids to gather and get dressed the day of the wedding, and then to have bridal pictures taken there also. If any business is willing to steal from you and then lie to you, there is nothing they are not willing to do. I stay at hotels over 100 days a year and never has something like this happened. The property has a lot of charm, especially the historic Cabin built in the mid-1700s, it catches the attention and is used as a special events space. The main house, Col Alto, is a beautiful Georgian-style brick home dating back to 1827. Both are rich in history and make the stay even more unique. I would absolutely stay here again and hear the historic rooms with bath tubs are the rooms to reserve. I was most pleased with the Kind bed & room.

Just one note - this is an older home, and there are stairs up into the home and stairs up to the rooms. (This wasn't an issue for me, but my mother has mobility issues so I keep an eye for these kinds of things.) That said, I loved the quiet, welcoming atmosphere and felt so comfortable here. It was so nice to come back to the peace of the space after a long day running around with the activities of my brother's wedding.

Wingate by Wyndham is much nicer, cleaner and upgraded property. The staff is friendly and there is daily housekeeping without any reminders, unlike the Hampton inn. Breakfast is ok, your usual cereal, toast, eggs, yoghurt. They have some frozen breakfast burritos/waffles that you can heat up in the microwave. Room is decent size and includes fridge and microwave. One downside was the bathroom, shower was weak and products were not good.
