Unfortunately this place is going downhill. This has been our go to for about 3 years now and sadly the owners are letting it fall to pieces. The pool is dirty, the hot tub had a had a grimy rim all around it and all what is done to it is they add chlorine to the point that you can't even stay in the room because it's so strong. The bathrooms are getting mildew/mold on the ceiling. The weight machine in the gym has been broken for almost 2 years.Unfortunately we will need to find a new place to stay when in Lexington. I have addressed the issues multiple times and haven't really seen any work done on to resolve it. Avoid it and stay somewhere else read more

This is a very reasonably priced hotel when visiting the Lexington area. I used to stay at the Hampton Inn before but it has got very expensive and is very dated. Wingate by Wyndham is much nicer, cleaner and upgraded property. The staff is friendly and there is daily housekeeping without any reminders, unlike the Hampton inn. Breakfast is ok, your usual cereal, toast, eggs, yoghurt. They have some frozen breakfast burritos/waffles that you can heat up in the microwave. Room is decent size and includes fridge and microwave. One downside was the bathroom, shower was weak and products were not good. read more

We stayed for 3 days. At surface level the facility is tired and worn. It is fairly clean in the common area and lobby, but the halls and vestibule were not cleaned up once. Same trash, dirt and spills on the floors. Same garbage in the urinals. Everything from the floor to two feet up the walls needs serious attention for the layers of gunk. Our toilet I the room continued to run and at night we could hear what sounded like a rodents chewing in the walls. The saving grace is the staff. Ever one of them went out of their way to be friendly, kind and help with anything within their power. Without them, Motel six just down the road looked better maintained. read more

Did not enjoy stay! 1st I was lied to. The clerk at the front desk stated I could get a room for $139 with my AAA discount and taxes included. Not worth the money. Receptionist was a bit rude. Mattresses are the kind you "sink" into so you're kinda shaped slightly like you're in a hammock, screwed up my back. Sheets were slightly stained. Walls were very thin - make sure you aren't at the end of the first floor near the laundry. The door will slam all day and well into the night. Everything else was fine. Overall, 175$ for an experience I feel like I'd get at a much cheaper place. Disappointed. read more

The room was clean and I was surprised how comfortable the mattress was! Overall it's a good hotel for the area. While near the highway my room was incredibly quiet. I was very impressed. The walls between rooms are a bit thin though. Issues I had were cleanliness in the halls and being woken up twice in the morning. The hallways had cobwebs and bugs stuck in them which was gross. I know there's a staffing shortage but it hasn't been wiped in over a week. I was woken up by a knock leaving my bill under my door early which was unnecessary. Just slide it there and leave. Second at 9am housekeeping knocked three times to come clean the room. I was asleep and very startled. She realized her mistake when I opened the door. I was also not impressed that, while friendly, the woman checking me in saw I'm assuming a worker coming in late and teasingly said " I'm gonna whoop your ****". Let me just start off by saying how amazing this place is! Clean and friendly atmosphere! Last night my husband and I came in after a long drive I screwed up the reservation at a different hotel and ended up having to look for a place to stay, but everyone was fully booked by the time I called the Wingate I was super frustrated and tired but the night manager took it in stride and assured me he would not give the room away to just come on in and he's take care of us! Well he kept his word and thanks to him and his amazing customer service my husband and I had a good nights rest ! The room looked picture perfect when we walked in just as seen online. We got the 1 king size bed room. Well I woke up several times in the middle of the night because I was uncomfortable. Not because of the pillows or the sheets but because the mattress pad cover and sheets were to small for the bed so they kept coming off making for a restless night of sleep only to get up and go hiking because after all that's why we came here. No southern hospitality at this place. The front desk staff have the personalities of a wet dish rag. When booking the hotel we were never told the pool & spa was closed down, and our room rate was not adjusted because of it. We had to sign a waiver when we checked in stating we understood it was closed...what else could we do, we drove over 5 hrs, we were tired, a nice spa would have been great. We attempted to eat the included breakfast 2 mornings, but others had already eaten the hot food, they obviously didn't replenish it throughout the breakfast hour...we opted for the nearby Sheetz for breakfast sandwiches & coffee. The room itself was ok, bed was comfy, but I did notice the pillowcases were a little stained, the bathroom was big and the shower head had nice water pressure. Windows were filthy on the outside. Not far from 81 and ratings weren't bad so we gave it a try. Bed was comfortable and clean and we weren't awakened by hallway noises. It looks like the bathroom could use some updating because the grout and ceiling had a little visible mold but not a big problem. The staff was friendly and we didn't have any issues at all. Hotel is old and in need of a refresh, but it was clean. Three stars due to the fact that they advertise breakfast. There was little to no food at 7:15 am, and no plates, just cereal bowls. No juice or water. Hot food consisted of scrambled eggs and gray sausage patties, both of which were presented in glass dishes with the food sitting in a pool of liquid. I don't choose hotels based on breakfast offerings, but you shouldn't advertise what you can't deliver. read more

The rooms are adequate. We came back to house keeping in our room. I had pulled the covers up before we left. They did not make the bed. Only vacuumed and switched out towels. The housekeeper had her middle school aged daughter with her. The breakfast is very cheap, but free. Powdered eggs, steamed sausage, stale biscuits on the hot bar. Same exact thing each day of our stay. I realize this is pretty standard, but still some hotels at least switch up the menu daily. Last night there was a large group of adult/young adults at the pool area. They were all in street clothing, no intention of swimming shown. The pool was already packed with guest and their children. This location has rules and signage prohibiting food/drink and opening of the windows. This group was doing both. I approached those at the counter and there was a young shaggy haired man there there that was immediately rude to me. He disputed my claim and later it appeared the group were his friends. I asked for his name and he would not give it to me. Neither would the female clerk give me his name or hers. I was also denied contact information on the manager. Avoid this hotel. read more

It's a small town so out of the choices given, it was the best pick which earned it one star. The room itself is fine, the TV was small and there weren't as many channels as you would get in other Wyndham hotels. The bedding was fine and the staff seemed friendly enough. So that earned it another star. We didn't ask many questions until our second day. They gave us "fresh" towels but two of the three wash cloths were stained. The shower head was NASTY. The water was fine but it was definitely either older than me. Icky. The breakfast was from 6:30-9:30 and was your typical continental breakfast, good choices and coffee. Why all the bad reviews here?! We had a good stay. The rooms were clean, comfortable and big. It also had a mini fridge And they have a nice indoor pool with a hot tub. And even their gym was very nice. Breakfast was also very good with many options including hot items like your scrambled eggs. Definitely check out this place if you need a place to stay in the area. I wanted to say what a friendly and amazing hotel staff the woman on the morning shift who let us check in early and let us borrow scissors so my son could open his bubbles. The evening gentlemen who always made sure the towels were dry and plentiful for all the guests at the pool. The breakfast was good cereal waffles toast bagels danishes and eggs/sausage. Even chocolate milk and yogurt were there along with coffee and juice. Fresh apples and oranges.... I can't say enough about how clean and large the rooms were - pleasantly impressed. There are 3 chairs in each room and one with a comfortable footstool and the beds were soft and comfortable. I really recommend if u are coming to the area. Walmart is one light down. U can walk to ruby Tuesday's - literally two steps away. read more

On our way to Outerbanks this last week, we flew by the seat of our pants on where to stay on the way. It is approximately a 14-15 hour drive from Indianapolis, and we have an 8 month old. This was our first road trip and knew we would have to stop along the way but weren't sure where and we wanted to go as far as we could. On the night we were driving through, I called a few hotels and they were all booked. We were about 30 minutes from Lexington and really didn't want to keep going, so when I called the Wingate, I was crossing my fingers that they had a room. And, they did! One suite left. I asked her if we could "hold" it without a credit card, that we would be arriving in about 20 minutes. The girl asked me if we were really coming and I assured her we were so she said she would be happy to hold it for us. When we arrived at the hotel, my husband went in and the guy in front of us was trying to check in without a reservation. She told him that they were sold out so he got a little worried that our room was not held, but when he told her that his wife had called from the road for the suite, she graciously gave us the room. I couldn't believe that just one phone call held our room! I was very pleased... I got the key and went to the room, which was one of the nicest hotel rooms I've stayed in for a long time. It was HUGE with a kitchenette area, four seat table, a large couch, flat screen TV, king sized bed and....my favorite ...a jacuzzi tub in the oversized, spacious bathroom. The bed was SO comfy and I was so happy that we decided to stop there. We had a full hot free breakfast, free wireless and what an amazing staff!! Really could not have asked for a better experience. Next year, we are definitely stopping in Lexington again and will make a reservation in advance. It was the perfect pitstop 10 hours into the drive to the East Coast. I assume it will not be any easier to travel across the country with a toddler! :) read more

We were visiting VMI with my son this weekend. This hotel/motel is a good value and convenient to downtown Lexington. It's next to a Ruby Tuesday and across from a Waffle House and Walmart. The room was comfortable and clean. Free breakfast buffet is nothing special but at least you can get a hot cup of coffee and get on the road. We didn't have time to look at the gym or pool but they both appeared clean. One of the desk clerk was a bit of a pill but otherwise great stay. read more

When I asked for a different room - I was told all the rooms have been checked in to. Which was a lie, as someone checked in as I was leaving to visit with friends. Attractive, comfortable, well designed hotel and room. Even a night light in the bathroom! Wonderful nights sleep. Customer service during check-in was a bit abrupt and mechanical. Only spending one night on my way home from Christmas vacation. The room is spacious, clean, and the bed comfortable. Wide-screen tv and plenty of warm heat on a cold night. So appreciative for this location. We traveled a red-eye from Seattle to BWI and then drove 3 hours to the Wyndham. Needless to say we were exhausted! We arrived to attend Senior Night at SVU for our son and his b-ball team. The Wyndham saw us arrive, heard our story of no sleep and long travels and found us a just-cleaned room to check in to a bit earlier than what is posted as check-in time. This allowed us to super, sleep and happily enjoy our event. We also felt much safer driving in an unknown area having slept a bit. Thanks much!! read more

Had to go to BFE Virginia for work and I did not want to stay at a Motel 6 or something of the sort and risk getting bed bug bites. Wingate was listed as higher than the State Dept lodging rate, but they were nice enough to lower the rate for me when I called and asked. The hotel is just off of Lee Highway. There's not much around it so you can't miss it. The front desk guy was friendly but a bit weird as we later caught him staring at my coworker working out in the gym. The room was sufficiently big with two comfortable double beds. The bathroom was clean, shower had good water pressure, and four sets of towels were provided which proved helpful when I later took a towel down to the pool. The gym is rather small with one treadmill and one elliptical. The window of the gym faces the lobby so everyone walking around can see into the gym. The pool is next to the gym and about 15 meters in length. Not huge but big enough to do a few laps. Breakfast had a good selection of eggs (most likely fake), sausage patties, make-your-own waffles, bagels, English muffins, oat meal, biscuits and gravy, fruit and yogurt. Not a shabby selection considering where we are. Coffee was meh, but we saw a new Starbucks machine that will supposedly be available to guests soon. Overall, Wingate made the overnight stay in BFE Virginia as pleasant as possible. read more

So I make a return trip, I have stayed here at least a half a dozen times, but now they have a new thing, they want to scan your drivers license. The last few nights I have been there, I asked them not to and they complied. The night before last I stop to get a room and the guy behind the counter says I have to. I said no, you don't and he was pretty much yeah I do. So I stated just give me my drivers license back and I will go to the Holiday inn. They don't scan your drivers license there. He didnt seem to care. No other hotel I have ever been to scans your drivers license. For what??? Talk about a violation of privacy. I have no problem with then checking my id, but scanning it? Crap. Avoid the hassle, the Holiday Inn down the street is just as nice if not better... read more

I just had the most ridiculous experience at this hotel. My MIL reserved and paid for our rooms for thanksgiving a year ago. When we arrived, the attendant required us to use our own card to pay for the entire stay... Nearly $500. We did and figured we recoup the money from my MIL the next day. When we saw her, she showed us that her card had also been charged the $500. When we returned to the hotel, the (different) front desk guy, sporting a leather blazer, gets an attitude after I explain the situation. His response (while shaking his neck at me) "it wasn't me, I wasn't even here last night. I don't know why you're getting short with me." He then proceeds to explain that since funds were held on our debit card, it would take 3-10 days for them to be released. He was zero help, and rude and unprofessional. I might be tempted to give 3 stars for the hotel itself, but then my room was crawling with ladybugs and some other kind of bug. What can I say... The breakfast was ok? Don't ever go here. read more

Came in tonight to look into a hotel room for later in the year and was not even greeted by the woman at the desk when we walked in. She just smirked at us and didn't say a word. Then she proceeded to have an attitude the entire time we were talking. She acted like it was the last place she wanted to be. This Wingate really needs to hire more friendly staff. Specially the first staff that guests see when they come into the hotel. I've stayed here before and have had similar experiences. Will not be staying here anymore. read more

Except for a few good points, this place is a dump. Our room was dirty and worn. The headboard of the bed had a major piece broken off, there was a side chair that was so filthy we would not touch it, and there was a throw pillow on the bed that was so dirty and stained my wife put it in a corner with a note to throw it out. We were afraid to walk across the floor without shoes. Bathroom was well worn. Shower curtain rod falling out of wall. Too many parties by the local college kids. Needs a makeover. For the good, free wifi worked well, bed was very comfy, breakfast was decent for a motel. Cannot recommend. Not up to Wyndham standards! read more

On two house hunting trips, we stayed there on two separate occasions for 5 nights and 3 nights, respectively. The first time we stayed we had a great room on the first floor. The bed was new-ish, pillows comfortable, and even the HVAC was quiet and kept the room reasonably comfortable. It was large, roomy and immaculate. So on the return trip, we were eager to book there again. On the second stay, we were given a room just down the hall from the room we had the first time, but the room was more dated, the heater was old and very noisy and didn't hold temperatures well. There were tiles missing in the bathroom, and the cleanliness level was sub-par. What a difference! While you may get lucky and get one of their updated rooms, you may also get stuck with one of their unremodeled rooms, which are sub-par, to say the least. I'd recommend Wingate with serious reservations, and only if you call to request an updated room. read more
