Absolute trash hotel. The management here literally stole $150 from me. On top it of that; after they stole the money, they had the nerve to lie to me and blame Expedia and Hiltons hotel policy for stealing my money. The fact is the general manager and manager of this hotel have zero honor and will literally steal your money to meet their hotels quota. Hope it was worth the $150. I gave the management multiple opportunities to do the right thing. Do not trust this hotel with anything. If any business is willing to steal from you and then lie to you, there is nothing they are not willing to do. I stay at hotels over 100 days a year and never has something like this happened. Wonderful stay! I was really pleased with my choice and would definitely recommend the Hampton Inn Lexington-Historic District. The service was great, a nice greeting when I checked in and the staff was friendly throughout the stay. Special shout out to Ginny at the front desk for her stellar service. The location is inviting, and my king bed & room with outside entry was spacious and clean. The room had all the Hampton amenities including a nice size TV, microwave, mini fridge, iron and full size ironing board, and a coffee maker. The bed was comfortable, and the room had a nice lounge chair. There was plenty of parking, and my room was in the back of the hotel (by the cabin) and the area was quiet and relaxing. The property has a lot of charm, especially the historic Cabin built in the mid-1700s, it catches the attention and is used as a special events space. The main house, Col Alto, is a beautiful Georgian-style brick home dating back to 1827. Both are rich in history and make the stay even more unique. I would absolutely stay here again and hear the historic rooms with bath tubs are the rooms to reserve. I was most pleased with the Kind bed & room. read more

Located in the historic district, Hampton Inn is less than a half mile from Washington and Lee university. There are 20 restaurants within walking distance. The room was very clean and quiet allowing us to enjoy a peaceful sleep. Breakfast was as expected. Omelets, and make your own waffles. A cabin from the 1750's is on the grounds and is still used for small meetings. The staff did a great job and made my stay exceptional. There are a lot of small local shops in the area that makes walking the town a treat. read more

We read a lot of reviews before we booked this place. We had a good night at this spot and we were pleased we took a chance. It's convenient for walking into Lexington for dinner and the grounds are lovely! Our room was clean and comfortable and smelled fine. They allow pets but there wasn't any problem with pet smells. We had two queen beds. One had a major divet in the mattress but the sheets were super soft. Breakfast was good with a good selection and everything was clean. I would stay here again. read more

This is the prettiest Hampton inn I have ever stayed. Looks like an ancient colonial building. We got upgraded to a bigger room for being Hhonors gold which Hampton inns normally don't do. Breakfast is the best! Lots of cosy seating areas, I loved sitting near the fire place. They had 2 types of pancakes and so many fun toppings. Lots of menu options too. read more

We were in town for a wedding and opted for the Hampton walking distance from downtown. This was an excellent choice (although we didn't do the walking because of cold wind and non-adventurous company). Staff was amazing and helpful and pleasant and insert your happy complement here. The resident cat is friendly but not demanding. She adds that touch of home. Hampton did a great job preserving the historic aspects of the lovely building while maintaining a comfortable hotel atmosphere. There are three large "public" rooms available for gathering that was nice for our family and friends. The property has nice outdoor spaces for relaxing and gathering (our weather didn't let us take advantage of this). Also, guests need to walk outdoors a room to get to the main building, breakfast, and delicious 24/7 coffee. Guest rooms are super clean and Hampton Inn standard design and amenities. They have a good variety of options including historic suites, usual king/queen, exterior and interior rooms. They have a small exercise space with weights, treadmill, elliptical and peloton. Don't let that keep you from getting out for a run or walk. I did a short run and it is a fine town for an early morning jog. Yes. I would return. This is one of those places that makes you feel at home. It reminds me of the family owned hotels in Ireland but with American style accommodations. read more

Extremely overpriced . They don't honor any kind of discounts like Hilton Honors or military. After staying in poorly run hotels for the last 4 days, this was a much needed relief. The staff was very pleasant and helpful both at check in and during the gratis breakfast the following morning. The location was very serene and nestled in a very cozy little town. Last but not least, the hotel was CLEAN. Every single area we looked at (and obviously our room) were basically spotless. I can't say that this stay has redeemed Hilton for us as an enterprise, but we very much enjoyed our stay here. read more

This is by far my favorite place I've stayed on any vacation. Pulling up you can just feel the history. Beautiful grounds and friendly staff! Checking in was easy and quick, even got a history card with the backstory to the hotel. The rooms were clean and comfortable. Smelled clean and had plenty of room. The only downside comment I'd have is the toilet paper roll is sooo far from the toilet. If you have young kids, I'd recommend taking it off and putting it on the back. The cleaning staff were especially friendly, always made sure to offer fresh towels and anything we needed when they passed us by our door. Breakfast started at 6am and on the way you have a chance to run into the hotel cat ( I was told he wanders the grounds and has become sort of a hotel cat), his name is colonel and he is very friendly. Breakfast had a great selection, more than most places we've stayed. Typical waffle bar, juices, yogurts, hard boiled eggs, cereals, bagels, scones that were amazing, muffins, and hot entrees that varied from day to day. They also had hot coffee - dark and light roast, hot water for teas and cocoas- all in a dining area that feels like a home. There is an old cabin on grounds that is now a meeting center but it's neat to see the history behind it . It's located close to the visitors center, walking distance to a Kroger grocery store, Frank's pizza, a few other places to eat and a sheetz for the late night snacks! The place is historic indeed! Although our stay was pleasant enough, I think it could have been better. I would say that I wasn't a fan of how old and, dare I say, crummy things felt in our rooms. For the price, I was expecting a tad bit more than this. Our rooms smelled of a slight moldiness and constantly felt sticky and gross. I absolutely hated the rickety air conditioner blasting itself through the night. I understand that my family and I visited in the month of July (the thick of summer), and that that could have affected the overall feeling of the place. The staff was friendly, facility clean, and the feel/vibe of the hotel was very comfortable. The breakfast was your basic waffle, eggs, oatmeal and cereal. This hotel looks pretty on the outside, and is perfectly fine on the inside, for a Hampton Inn, but the respective price doesn't align. It's a Hampton Inn that was $300 with taxes. I was somewhat forced to stay here for a wedding, since the shuttle picked up from there. I wouldn't recommend paying the price. The prices should align with other Hampton Inn prices.... Perhaps a fraction more for the pretty setting. I was in a regular Hampton Inn style room... not some of the bed and breakfast style rooms they advertise. read more

Our drive from High Point, NC back to NJ was split over the course of two days. Lexington, roughly the one-third point, was chosen to extend our vacation by a day. It was a very good choice made even better by our stay at the Hampton Inn Lexington. Decades of business travel have made the consistent reliability of Hampton Inns a travel mainstay. Built on several acres of nicely landscaped hills, the main building is understood to be an 1827 meeting place and National Historic Site. Immediately serene and comfortable, the three-story Hampton is very well equiped with all of the amenities of a modern motel, while maintaining consistency with the architecture of the main building. Our room, at a very reasonable $158, was a third story balcony suite. Very spacious and with a great private view of the grounds, we found the few extra dollars for the suite to be well worth it. The mattress and pillows were very comfortable, just what my neck and back needed before completing our 1,100 mile driving vacation. Frige, coffee maker, microwave and surprisingly good free WiFi service were all included (as were parking and breakfast buffet). There are many restaurants within a short walking distance so that the absense of an onsite restaurant wasn't a problem. Hot water pressure (third floor) and peak shower time temperature gave no cause for complaint. Although not full-sized, the bath towels were abundant and adequately absorbent. The flat screen television and channel selection were both very good. I would be remiss in not acknowledging the welcoming assistance of the front desk staff; they added to a very nice stay. read more

when I walked into my hotel room and everything was fine until I couldn't find my microwave or fridge and when I walked into the bathroom they were bunk bed stacked in the bathroom right next to the sink and toilet and when I went to the front desk the lady working at the time gave me an attitude after questioning about the microwave bathroom situation. On top of the incredible service and stay, I left my airpods behind on the bed when I left, and they shipped them back to my residence in Texas. I Haven't been here in about a year so hoping he/she is still alive but it is a very sweet cat that will usually want to have its belly rubbed or back stroked. I feel like the word "Charming" was created specifically for this place. Nestled in a Western Virginia college town snug in the scenic Blue Ridge Mountains, this Hampton Inn is the finest I've ever stayed at. The grounds, architecture, and interior common areas possess that colonial ambience that immediately transport you back to that era when the "rock stars" were Tom J., Patrick H. and the original G.W. The staff is extremely gracious and exudes that Southern charm which can't help but make you smile. They are doing an excellent job coping with the difficulties of maintaining a safe and healthy environment in these challenging times. I felt perfectly at ease, spending the night there. My only regret was that due to a tight travel schedule, I was not able to extend my stay. But I have definitely marked this hotel as a place I plan to return to once the pandemic is behind us. But if you need to travel now, I feel confident in saying you will not regret a stop here. It will definitely brighten your day. read more

Be not deceived -- this is not a nice Hampton Inn. If it wasn't nestled in the middle of a cute little town, it would NEVER pass the way it apparently has, for sooo long. But I also take into consideration that this is the "nicest" hotel in Lexington. However, I never ever want to stay here again. Okay, sure, the property is beautiful. I'm talking landscape and all. And the building is historic. It's like an old mansion.... That's where the niceness ends. The rooms need updating. It is stuffy. And I got old "Holiday Inn" vibes. I wanted to keep my shoes on. The front desk clerk gives you a map so you can navigate your way around the quarters. It's tricky. Really, had I known I would still have to walk outdoors to come back inside to the lobby for breakfast, I would've stayed someplace else. Needless to say, I didn't like the layout...or the food. That would've almost been enough for me to skip this property going forward, but the manager I corresponded with sealed the deal. That said, if you are stuck in Lexington and have $150 to blow, have at it. If not, keep it moving. Nothing to see. read more

This definitely isn't your average Hampton Inn, the lobby and breakfast area are housed in an historic plantation house and the whole hotel is on the historic house's grounds. There's even a log cabin outside but I don't think you can rent it for your hotel room. The rooms themselves are usual Hampton fare and are quiet and comfortable. Service is really friendly and breakfast is okay but nothing special, though they had a make your own waffle machine. Don't be fooled by the maps showing this place is a bit off the beaten path, this place is a 5-10 minute walk to anywhere downtown so it's VERY walkable. If I go back to Lexington I would definitely stay here. read more

Stranded at the Charlotte, NC airport by a snow storm battering New England, we were lucky enough to get a rental car at the airport to complete our trip north. After driving several hours in the dark of the night, we happened upon this Hampton Inn. As a general rule we like Hampton Inns, and are Hilton Honor's members. It was close to 5:00 a.m. when we arrived, and the staff were not at the reception desk. We wandered around this lovely building, looking for staff and found a very friendly receptionist in the kitchen area preparing for the early morning breakfast guests. She quickly came out and checked us in (there were three rooms needed in all),even looking up our Hilton Honors member number (we were not expecting to be driving and didn't have them handy) and suggesting if we were hunger (we were as our last meal was in AR about 16 hours before) that we take one of the breakfast bags that were ready and waiting. The room was just what we expect from a Hampton Inn, Comfortable bed, shampoo, shower cap, soap and lotion. Fluffy towels, comforter, chair, desk, large TV and so on. Although we just 'hit the hay' without a thought, it was comforting to know everything was just as expected. No nasty surprises! After a quick sleep (about 5 hours) and a much appreciated hot shower and breakfast, we were back on the road. This facility is quite lovely. Although we did not get to enjoy it as much as we would have under other circumstances, it was plain to see the building was well cared for and offered some very nice amenities. The staff we encountered were all very kind and friendly. In a better situation, I would be happy to, and hope I get a chance to, stay here again. read more

This place is AMAZINGLY overpriced. We paid $850 for three nights, and that was a "regular rate" through Hotels.com for this 2-star hotel which is almost without amenities. We stayed here due to its proximity to downtown (where we SHOULD have stayed) and that's its only redeeming quality. But the historic nature of the property includes the fact that this used to be the site of an old hospital where my husband's grandmother died, so there's that. The breakfast is adequate, but uninspired, but at least the coffee is hot. Flimsy paper plates, paper coffee cups, and plastic eating utensils. Two queen beds in our room, so we were stocked with three bath towels, four paper cups meant for the coffee maker, no cups for the bathroom, no disposable shower cap, no shoe cloth, no pens or paper (I needed to make a list), and housekeeping comes only every other day. So, unfortunately they "missed" us on our second day, which the front desk clerk assured me was "no problem" and loaded me up with two clean bathtowels, a couple of washcloths, and told me I could grab more paper cups in the breakfast area before I traisped back to our room. The desk clerk assured me they'd clean the room tomorrow, which is super convenient since we're checking out in the morning. If I had paper I'd leave them a note to let them know you have to jiggle the handle of the toilet or the water runs forever. All things considered, I would give the overall experience two thumbs way down. Never again. read more

I've stayed at a fair share of Hampton Inn's--they more or less look the same across America. This one is a different though, definitely the most unique Hampton Inn I've stayed in. They use what used to be a beautiful colonial brick inn or mansion, and have retained much of the historical look both inside and out. A parking space in front is reserved for the horse carriage. As far as rooms, they are largely the same as any other Hampton Inn. As always, complimentary breakfast is served as well. read more

We stayed on May 9 and 10. The room was clean but had a little musty smell. But a nice room. However the bed was the most uncomfortable, I've slept in. I think they need to upgrade. The breakfast was a joke. The person who was running it was more interested in staying on her phone than keeping up with the supplies. I had to tell her the OJ was water because it needed replenished. I had to tell her the pancake batter was empty and there was no syrup available. The other staff and I encountered were just vanilla. They were not overly friendly nor did they seem to care to make the stay any nicer. But the big thing is, these people are criminals, IHO. We were there because my grandson was graduating from Washington and Lee University School of Law. They knew this was graduation for the law school and they knew there would be a lot of people there during this date. We paid $841 for two nights stay. This was the most I've ever paid for a hotel, and this hotel is maybe slightly above average. They inflated the rates almost triple. There ought to be a law against this. read more

Best bang for the buck HANDS DOWN. Due to hotel security after hours, delivery drivers are not allowed to come to your door, but as I was preparing to meet the driver in the lobby, a hotel employee delivered it to my room. I guess the attitude is "WTF we don't care" at this place. Extremely rude staff, seems to be manned by college students who (1) need much, much better training; (2) lie; and (3) don't really understand the hospitality industry. Upon check-in we were told they did not have the room type that we booked (and that was shown to us on the website). Then the young woman checking us in said "sir if you don't like it I can cancel your reservation and you can go stay somewhere else!". In all of my travels nobody has EVER had the audacity to say that to me. When I complained to the manager - who herself looked like she is a freshman from the local university - the response was to say absolutely NOTHING to the associate who spoke to me so rudely. The General Manager was equally dismissive but what can you expect if you're stuck in such a position? This place sucks! read more

For Hampton Inn's this is well above average! This place has both historic charm and modern comfort packed into one very cute historic mansion. The rooms are not comparable, however, so experiences will range depending on which rooms you get. The "annex" rooms (vast majority of them are these) are run-of-the-mill Hampton Inn rooms, but if you book a room within the house itself, you will be treated to a truly unique experience. We arrived at this hotel late at night due to car trouble. For three nights we thought we might check out and then ended up staying because the car wasn't ready. Wonderful manager Jessie and her outstanding team took such good care of us, being patient with our changing plans and making sure we had everything we needed. The historical building and grounds are beautiful and the rooms are comfortable and modern. There is a friendly hotel cat named Colonel who sat on my lap like a sweet therapy animal on a tough day. The breakfast boxes were terrific and good tea and coffee were always available. Also, the hotel is within easy walking distance of the historic town center and everything we needed. We felt so lucky to have gotten stuck in such a beautiful place! We would definitely stay here again--on purpose. read more

This hotel is so historic and I loved it! I stayed here after driving about 8 hours. The rooms were quiet which I greatly appreciated. It is a little outdated, that is my only reason for giving 4 stars. The front staff was friendly even with it being 11pm. I did not get to enjoy the breakfast, but I have no doubt that it was superb. I know I was in the South when I saw a sign, leading up to the hotel parking lot, that said "Spot Reserved for Horse Carriage" The Hampton Inn in Lexington, VA is a beautiful, Southern-style hotel. The staff was warm and accommodating, the rooms were nice, great big TV, comfortable bed. No complaints whatsoever. FREE WIFI!!! YAY! Their continental breakfast (free) was actually great for a hotel breakfast. I'm usually not a fan of those free hotel breakfasts, but this one had little omelets, some good bacon, fruits and yogurt, as well as a very nice array of coffees to choose from.
