Three years ago I found myself in Toniann's chair after a truly HORRIBLE cut and color at another salon. Toniann not only got me a glass of rose (because I was sobbing my eyes out) but then proceeded to start me on the best hair journey of my life. One thing that I love about Toniann is how much she pays attention to her clients wants/needs. She asks questions to better understand your personal maintenance, why you like a certain cut, etc. and then tailors your cut + color to what will work best for you. She does all of this while explaining WHY she is doing what she's doing, so you can better understand your hair and how to take care of it. She will never blindly just give you what you want if it's going to put your hairs health at risk, but instead, she will come up with a game plan to get you where you want to go. The second thing I love about going to Toniann is that she always seems to know what cut/color I want before I even know, I trust my girl through and through!! I cannot recommend her enough. She has been giving my sons great haircuts for over 3 years, even through the terrible-twos of flipping out in the middle of a hair cut. We feel so comfortable with Renee in our house, that when she walks in we don't even bother to apologize for the mess anymore. She has various specials which you can find on her website. I usually get highlights and/or a cut, and then one of the kid's cuts is free. My sons' hair looks great after Renee cuts it and it grows out nicely; the cuts lasts awhile. She's got a gizmo to put on the kitchen sink to wash out grown-ups hair, and she brings a broom to sweep up after the whole cutting process. In our family, we find that the 7 am appointment is best. Renee starts with my hair, and while it sets, she cuts one or both of the kid's hair while they watch Dora for distraction, and my husband and I feed them and get them dressed. Occasionally we put the boys in the bath right after a cut, because with short hairs, it can get on their neck and bother them. It's so nice to be able to do this right after because we are in our home, not a salon. Then she washes my hair and does a blow-out. My husband gets the kids to school, and I get to work - on time - with great hair! I don't think I've been as loyal to a hair stylist as I am to Renee.

She patiently listened to what I needed and then worked her magic. My hair was uneven and poorly cut and Lucy saved it and gave me a beautiful cut. After finally deciding that what I REALLY wanted was a pixie cut, I went back to Lucy today and she did a gorgeous job. I'm so happy with my new look! It's edgy and artistically cut. Longer on top, shorter on the sides and back, with some wispy bangs. While I was there, a couple of Lucy's regulars came by to say hello or set up appointments. All were greeted like old friends. It's a joy to do business with such a friendly and popular neighborhood biz. And Lucy's is a gem :)

The salon is centrally located, cute, clean, and friendly. Everyone is welcome, regardless of age or style. The other stylists seem super talented and leave looking amazing and happy. BUT LET ME TELL YOU ABOUT CARLY. Carly is like a haircutting Angel. not only is she one of the most talented and dedicated stylists and colorists I've ever been to, but she is just truly a delight to be around. I look forward to our appointments like I look forward to happy hour with an old friend. She is warm, communicative, interesting, and I always leave feeling amazing. Extremely Disappointing and Traumatic Experience…read more I booked an appointment at Antonio Prieto Salon after seeing an ad specifically stating they were seeking hair models and said curly-haired models are welcomed. As a Black woman with type 4 hair, I felt encouraged and hopeful that the salon would be inclusive and capable of working with my texture. Unfortunately, my experience was the exact opposite. There was no consultation prior to my appointment. When I arrived, the stylist didn't tell me that she had never worked with Afro-textured hair. I had to ask her when she seemed to look confused when touching my hair. Despite this, I tried to remain open-minded since the ad stated a master stylist would be shadowing her. However, red flags began quickly. She attempted to cut my hair without washing it first--something that simply doesn't work for coily hair types. I had to advocate for myself and ask that she wash it so she could actually see my curl pattern. The wash itself was careless. She barely touched my scalp, avoided any real contact, and didn't detangle my hair at the bowl--another essential step that was neglected. Once in the chair, another team member joined, and both appeared completely untrained in handling my hair. They began detangling my dry hair, which is damaging and deeply inappropriate for textured hair. Eventually, Antonio Prieto himself stepped in. Instead of taking accountability or offering a solution, he admitted he and his team were not experienced in working with hair like mine. Shockingly, he handed me a dirty paddle brush and told me to detangle my own hair. He then proceeded to make passive-aggressive comments--complimenting my hair, but also saying he wouldn't give me a proper cut because I "didn't say what I wanted" (despite me clearly stating I was open to the cut they deemed best). He added that if it were up to him, he would have charged me $1000 for the service rather than the $60 model rate--an unnecessary and humiliating comment. The haircut I received was uneven and careless. They didn't style my hair as promised. Instead, they applied some leave-in conditioner and left me to fend for myself, without so much as a goodbye or acknowledgement. Even though I expressed my deep disappointment, I paid and left simply to avoid further discomfort. This entire ordeal could have been avoided if the stylist--or the salon--had communicated upfront that they lacked experience with Afro-textured hair. Instead, I was subjected to ignorance, poor treatment, and microaggressions that left me feeling embarrassed, disrespected, and dehumanized. To be clear: Afro hair is curly hair. If you're seeking curly-haired models but only mean loose waves or looser curl patterns, say that. Don't mislead people into vulnerable situations where they're forced to defend their existence in your chair.

We had a call the day before where we discussed the cut - taking weight out in the back and creative movement with layers, trimming the ends but not removing more than a couple inches in length because I was getting married a few weeks later. I agreed to the $60 fee (cash only), providing my credit card details over the phone so that I would be charged if I flaked, because Julian claimed to have extensive experience AND promised a swag bag of styling tools and products worth $100. Long story short, it took Julian 3 hours to do a simple long layers cut (not including styling, which I skipped) and it was way shorter than we had agreed upon. Antonio was present but uninvolved, except when Julian noticed that he had cut one side much shorter than the other and Antonio told him to cut the other side to match and that his technique was incorrect. Despite billing himself as a "TOP STYLIST" Julian said he'd only started cutting hair a year and a half ago. Similarly, the gift bag wasn't available "because the brand rep hadn't dropped it off yet", and after I followed up a couple times he finally said he had it for me, to be picked up on a street corner rather than the salon. The worst part, though, was that at no point did either of them ask me what I thought of the cut or acknowledge that it wasn't what we had agreed on. I have always worn it straight but struggled to tame it and keep the frizz down in New York weather. Marlene was truly a blessing. I scheduled an appointment with her quickly and over the phone she explained what she does. I wanted to get a Botox treatment and she explained where it was from and how long she had been working with it. When I came to the salon, she had a mask and there were social distancing protocols in place. Everything was cleaned for me and I wasn't worried about risk of the virus. When I first came there was one other client who raved about her and she had thick long beautiful hair. I was watching the time that Marlene put into caring for her hair and I was so impressed that I immediately felt at ease. She told me she has been seeing Marlene for years, and now I truly understand why. The wash was really thorough. I felt my scalp was squeaky clean. She is meticulous about every step and explains what she is doing and why she is doing it. You can tell she takes her job very seriously, truly cares for her clients, is very precise and detail oriented and loves what she does. After the treatment when I say, my hair has NEVER IN MY LIFE LOOKED BETTER. I mean it. I have never felt my hair so silky and frizz free in my life. When I say I could literally be in rainforest and not a hair would be out of place, I mean it. She wrapped my hair for me and showed me which products to use. She also gave me super detailed after care instructions and let me know when and why I needed to schedule my next appointment. Not only that, she genuinely cares that you are happy, she doesn't just chop off your hair with no warning and checks in with you throughout the appt.
