Overall amazing. I've been going to a hair stylist for years at another salon but she moved away and her visit back were more and more infrequent. All the while I was loyal because with my creative color I was prettified to go somewhere else. ENTER HUMBERTO and Seagull Salon! He was so sweet and all along the way he was giving me faith that I had made the right choice. I was simply hoping to walk out with a 'not bad' color and I walked out with something better than I had imagined! It ain't easy to lift my dark brown, thin white girl hair to silver blonde but he did it! Not to mention he blended my many previous color for an inconspicuous glam planetary look! Thank youuuuu! See below for a before and after.

I think I messed up and added photos separately :S Look for the smoked out grey hair with pink highlights! Anyways, I had an amazing experience at Seagull today!!! I had long hair that was dyed red multiple times. I've grown so tired of the red hair and really wanted a dramatic change. I called and went in for consultations at multiple studios but everywhere I went they were reluctant to take me or just straight up said it was impossible to get the red out. I would need to just grow out my natural hair and wait 2 years. Enter Seagull and the amazing Topher + Jeanise (@piggyhuggums). Jeanise sat me down a few weeks ago and told me what she will be able to do and what I can expect. She quoted me a fair price and worked with me to find ways to cut that price down without compromising the quality of the final result. I was nervous about how this will turn out because 1) I've never had short hair before and 2) many of the other hair salons have warned me about the unevenness of color in my hair and the impossible amount of bleach it would take and the consequent damage. Walked in today, didn't have to wait at all, got started right away. Topher is charming, funny, relatable. Overall extremely cool guy (like everyone at the salon). I actually loved the haircut he gave me so much I would've been okay just walking out with that. It was already a really stunning transformation. I went from chest length hair to just above my shoulders. The haircut gave me a lot more movement and I just looked younger and more radiant. 10/10 Then begins what amounted to about 6 hours of bleaching, conditioning, highlighting, toning. Throughout this entire process, Jeanise was very clear with me about what we're doing, what I can expect ("you might feel tingling on your scalp"). She was an absolute angel. I complained that my neck hurts, she gave me advil and tried to lessen the weight on my head. I complained about the bleach touching my skin, she adjusted the towel until I felt comfortable. I questioned her decision to include pink stripes, she addressed my concerns. And really there was no need for such questioning because after everything was washed off I really thought i might cry. I was so beyond happy with the result. The grey tones were exactly what I had in mind, and the added pink made it so much edgier. My hair didn't feel damaged, it didn't smell like chemicals--in fact it smelled like roses, smelled really good. I have been quoted much higher prices at other places for results where I would've had to compromise a lot more. I am very very very happy with every aspect of my experience and would highly recommend Seagull, Topher, and Jeanise to anyone looking to slay this summer.

Had such a wonderful experience today getting my nails done by Gina. Gina is a true artist and has always been able to replicate any picture I show her or create one of a kind nail art that's perfect for my style. She's so friendly and kind and we always have so much fun when I get my nails done I'm so happy that she is now working at the salon as it's really cute, clean and the vibe is chill and everyone has a big smile on their face. Thanks!!!!

I live in Dutchess County, but when I decided that I was ready for wonderfully wild hair color, I did my homework. Every search and every query brought me to the Sea Gull's website. I remember making my first appointment and then trying to get my daughter to talk me out of having some stranger turn my hair lavender. But a week later, there I was on West 4th Street, hand shaking as I rang the bell. That was several years ago. What I found at the Seagull was a wonderfully warm environment populated by an amazing staff of creative geniuses who are all absolutely dedicated to making your experience the very best from the second you walk in the door until the moment the mirror is placed in your hand and you gasp at the gorgeous colors shining in your hair and the perfect cut executed to show off your new colors to their very best. Every single person who works at the Sea Gull is extraordinarily nice, and most importantly: real. Being a country gal, I expected to be surrounded by puffed-up citified millennials assured of their own fabulosity, but I was 100% wrong. Everyone who works there is firmly rooted in the here and now. They are, to a fault, dedicated to their art and couldn't be more fun to spend a few hours with. All that being said - and knowing how much I love and adore the staff of the Sea Gull....YOU GUYS NEED TO INVEST IN A FREAKING KEURIG! If you're a coffee person, like, say most of the world, stop at the Starbucks across the street before you go up. To date, tea is the beverage offered when you arrive. I have nothing but respect for my tea-swilling friends, and expect the same in return. You can't just offer tea and not coffee. Well, The Sea Gull can, and does....but I'm going to make it my sacred crusade to get coffee added to the Sea Gull's beverage offerings! With a certain someone leaving, it's the LEAST you can do. Ahem. The handful of negative Nellies who left uncomplimentary reviews about this world-class salon are obviously individuals who are only happy whilst complaining...in public. Pay them no mind. You will find joy and bliss at the Sea Gull!

I would follow Topher to the ends of the earth, and so thrilled that he has landed at Seagull! He was referred to me by Pony of Folklore (https://www.yelp.com/biz/folklore-salon-los-angeles) when I switched coasts, and I'm ever so grateful to have become client and friend. He is has taken me through at least 4-5 different styles in the last 3 years, and each one garners compliments from friends and colleagues. Topher is a master of challenging textures, (my own falling between curly and straight, and full of cowlicks) and manages to come up with styles that allow me to tread the line between edgy and true to my core, but not too conceptual. I've also referred both friends and family members to Topher, and he never disappoints! Go now! Get thee better hair!

Appointments became rushed, started late, and lacked even basic professionalism. You're barely greeted when you walk in, and the overall tone makes it feel like you're inconveniencing them just by being there. I told them multiple times I had a head injury from a concussion and the lack of care was very concerning how abrasively they washed and handled my head. My most recent appointment was a complete failure. I asked for a warm, golden brown and came prepared with multiple reference photos. While the color was processing, I clearly flagged that it was pulling purple. That concern was dismissed, and the product was left on longer. The result was the darkest my hair has ever been, almost black with a cool, purple hue. The exact opposite of what I requested. The color job is all mismatched, the lower part of my hair significantly darker, the roots are sloppy and uneven. When I pointed this out, the response was defensive and dismissive. At one point, I was sarcastically asked if I wanted to "bleach it," which is an inappropriate and careless suggestion for already fine hair. It was mind blowing to have this handled so poorly and then be rushed through a cut that does not look anywhere close to the quality of the past cuts. I followed up requesting a refund, given that this will take months to correct and fade, and received no response for over 48 hours. It's not even about the money - it's about the severe lack of respect. What's most surprising is that this level of defensiveness and lack of accountability was unacceptable, especially after such a grave mistake. Instead of thoughtful adjustment and ownership, the response was dismissive in the moment and silent afterward. Mistakes happen. How they're handled is what defines a business. This was not handled well. NYC has no shortage of salons that can deliver both technical skill and professionalism. This is not one of them. Updating this with a pic and additional NYC HAIR SALON SEO terms so future customers are warned since the salon has decided to block me after no satisfactory resolution. The pic at the top right was me pre-hair f*** up. Only come to this salon if you'd like to come home and cry.

This was their "best advice for me" and that I should come back and get both together. I only needed a haircut and this was the only chance I got (I am a SAHM with 2 kids and minimal backup except this day) so I said I would consider it but I need a cut now. It was 6 months since my last. That must have just not been the right thing to say bc I was judged, insulted during the entire session and I got the worst haircut of my life. I can't even get it fixed because it is so much shorter than I wanted. There are huge "texture" discrepancies all over my hair, the most obvious being in the back near my neck. There's also a strand of hair far longer than the entire length of my bob cut. I don't even understand how this happened. I'm so traumatized. I would never recommend this place and will never ever come back. I really had 1 chance to get a cut as a treat to myself, since I really don't have extra time to spare. And now I have to live with this until it grows out, definitely more than 6 more months. If I could give -1000 stars, I would. Please do yourself a favor and find a salon that can do a nice cut for long AND SHORT hair. WITHOUT A PERM TO MAKE IT ALL STRAIGHT FIRST. The skill level here is just so sub par. Truly disappointing as holidays are coming up and I have been wearing a hat to cover up, cannot wait for this to grow out but will take months.
