The food was AMAZING, I ordered NOLA shrimp and grits and my boyfriend ordered stuffed french toast, both were cooked perfectly and didn't need any extra seasoning! This place is fantastic! I went with my husband and another family for breakfast on a Sunday morning. The employees were friendly- and the food was out of this world! My husband and I split a fried chicken breakfast sandwich on a biscuit, with a side of cheese grits. The chicken was crisp, seasoned nicely, and the biscuit, egg and cheese were delicious. The grits were seasoned, which is unusual, and they were fantastic. Our friends got: a breakfast sandwich with ham on toast- the ham was thick and delicious! A plate of French toast for their kiddos- it was huge and looked fantastic. And a California panini with fries- delicious and super filling. The only complaint I have is that the service was slow as was the food coming out of the kitchen. But everyone was friendly and the atmosphere was pleasant, so we didn't mind waiting. read more

As a place, Abita Roasting Company in Convington is great. It's a very large, walkup coffee bar with a separate dining room. I went there as a treat at the end of a run on the Tammany Trace. Side note: This is a great treat if you're running, walking, or biking on the Trace, especially when the weather is nice, because their patio if cool. The day I went, they somehow managed to be out of coffee. Instead, I had an espresso, which was decent. The service was very friendly and the prices were fair. They also had a case full of delicious looking pastries and baked goods, but I didn't try any of them. I was out for a run, remember? My lone complaint is that there seem to be some wrinkles in the supply side, or at least a clear schedule of when things are available. I went at 2pm or so and the kitchen wasn't open...maybe I'm a dummy and I couldn't read the signs. I was bummed either way. On top of that, they were out of coffee on the coldest day of the decade in Covington. I'll definitely go back here eventually. read more

I've gone here for brunch a few times and I've always left satisfied. I've had the Philly cheesesteak panini, breakfast sandwich with fried chicken, and the salad (can't remember the name) with grilled chicken, walnuts, cranberries, bleu cheese, and raspberry vinaigrette. All were exceptionally delicious! The service however can be slow especially on the weekends. This place also has a Bloody Mary bar with bottomless Bloody Mary's on the weekend. This is a great place to go if you don't know what you want because they have lots of different options! This is for sure my favorite brunch place in Covington! read more

Abita has always been on of my favorite restaurants to dine in at! If you're looking for excellent service ask for Jaci. Her bubbly personality is a breath of fresh air and she will keep you laughing for days. Finding good service now a days is hard to come by and she will definitely make your trip to ARC worth wild. We came to Abita Roasting Co. because we had received a gift certificate for Christmas and were told they had great cocktails and a fun menu. We came in on a Thursday night around 6pm so they weren't at all busy and we sat outside with the nice breeze and weather we've been experiencing in south Louisiana! We had to take a while to mull over the menu, as it is pretty large and almost every meal looks exciting. We finally settled on Southern Style Shrimp as an appetizer, blackened shrimp that come on top of a bed of fried green tomatoes. You'll be swimming in your own saliva at this point. The fried green tomatoes were perfectly fried & crispy, the batter was a great thickness, not too thick and not too thin. My SO ordered the Tay Ray's Pork Tacos, which were incredibly tasty (we always share at least a bite of eachother's meal). Tay Ray's comes with an Asian slaw and seashore fries. The french fries here, were AGAIN, incredible & nicely fried. I ordered the Honey Fried Goat Cheese & Hot Bacon salad. I don't even like goat cheese, but I figured I'd try something new because the description of the salad really drew my attention. "Spinach Leaves/Panko Fried Goat Cheese/Abita Fresh Honey/Ponchatoula Strawberries/Blueberries/Almonds/Mango/Red Onions/House Bacon Dressing". I am now a lover of Goat Cheese, at least made this way. The salad was a perfect flavor bomb, as I tried to get a little piece of everything in my mouth at once! I couldn't have left more satisfied. Our waitress was incredibly sweet and checked on us the perfect amount of times. We also ordered two cocktails, which I don't remember the names of, but they were very tasty and not too sweet. You could still taste the alcohol, which is how I like mine to be. We will be back! read more

Food is familiar. Local and varied. I would say, they could add a little spice or kick. Service is awful. Employees don't care. You could get better service at the Salvation Army thrift store from people who aren't working on tips. HAVE YOU NOT HEARD OF YELP? Say THANK YOU!! Goods portions and food hot. Then you meet the manager, Stephen? Steven? What a joke, this place has no future unless he goes on vacation and his minions learn how to be real. The location gets busy and they have drive thru, the people get through the line quick and the kitchen can kick out some food, you just have to get past the floor folk. I wondered why my neighbors weren't flocking through the doors. Maybe they did months ago, I see now why if they did they don't any longer. It's a shame this isn't our hub or Starbucks replacement. It's our new "go to" spot for BRUNCH! We love their food The chicken and waffles were perfect. Light waffle with powered sugar and pecans. The chicken was fried to perfection. The biscuits and white gravy are the best we have had in Covington. The service is good. Our waitress was very patient and helpful since we had never been before. Her recommendations were exactly what we needed. They have an outside sitting area. You can bring your small pets and eat outside. They have a dog walking area directly across from the restaurant. When I first started driving I stopped here. I thought it was so cool that I could drive and get breakfast all my by myself. I sat outside and got the eggs Alaska (kind of like eggs Benedict with salmon) it was so amazing and I got some fresh fruit. It was such a great experience and everyone was so friendly. I got black coffee, husband got cafe mocha ( after 20 mins we said forget it got ice tea. ) we order food at drink order. 30 mins later food came. We order simple food nothing big. I have been going to AR for a while for breakfast 1st thing in the morning on Saturday and Sundays. The service use to be really good. Then they got a new batch of waiters/waitresses. The service kept getting worse and worst. Whenever one of the non new would wait on me it was great. The others might check on me once after my plate and order. The final straw was I went and waited 10 minutes no waiter. I know the time because after a bit I started my timer on the phone. Not too busy. Ba waitress came after a while and checked on people around me. Didn't take my order no one came. I left. I could see the wait staff standing around the area that goes towards the back and they seemed more interested in standing there talking and carrying on with each other than checking on customers. I tip way more than I should for a breakfast and the ones that had been around a while were always great. The new ones do not take care of the customers. I don't plan on going back. read more

UPDATE 2: Like I've said before, hit or miss. My daughter loves this place, so we can't stay away too long. It's really amazing the highs and lows we experience. When it's high, it makes me want to come back every weekend. When it's low, it makes me never want to return. The last two experiences I've had have been really good. The host stand situation seems to have worked out, and the young guy working that position is about as friendly as friendly can be, so it's hard to be upset even when the backup begins. If you find yourself here on a day when the wait has not hit hard, definitely give it a go. If the line is out the door, you should be too. Or just settle in and grab a coffee. One of our favorite breakfast spots! The food is always fresh, hot, and large portions. My fiancé and I usually split the sunriser breakfast and it's plenty for both of us. After being sat at a table, I had to request a server after waiting 15 minutes. After we received our drinks, we didn't have anyone check on us again until our food arrived, maybe 30 minutes later. There is nothing wrong with the food. Everything there is quite yummy. The problem is the service. We waited for 15 minutes after being seated with no service or water. Once it was clear that we weren't being served, we left. A few months passed, and we wanted their delicious praline chicken and waffles again. So we returned in the middle of the day and the same thing happened. Was seated immediately, then waited with zero service for 10 minutes. We grew tired and bored of waiting and left again. Another period of time passed and we returned for a third, and final time. The same. Exact. Thing. Waited for 15 minutes after being seated with no service. Most people wouldn't have gone back a third time after all of that, but we wanted the food bad enough to overlook the prior experiences. I guess it's our fault for putting ourselves in that situation so many times. We will no longer go to the Covington location, since we have had great experiences at the Madisonville location. This restaurant needs to get its act together. In an already over saturated area, service this bad will eventually lead to business failure. read more

This was one of the first restaurants I visited when we moved to the NOLA area. And we ate here two days in one week until we unpacked and went grocery shopping. This has to be one of the best, most extensive breakfast menus I've seen at an independently owned place. You can't go wrong with the chicken and waffles (2 waffles and 3 pieces of delicious, crispy, flavorful fried chicken); French toast, or standard eggs, toast, hash browns and meat. Also great omelettes, shrimp roumalade, and sandwiches. My husband loves the coffee and their case of sweet treats is always so tempting, but because the portions are so big I've never had room to try. We are now regulars at this cute Covington gem. This is more of a mid-high end dining spot than a coffee shop, despite the name. It has a full menu. The food is very well done with good presentation and taste. This place is also a local favorite judging by the traffic. So think of it as a step above Panera Bread. The coffee is actually so-so. About on par with Panera coffee. But it is a great lunch spot. The first time I tried this place I order the bayou omelette breakfast, was to have crawfish and all that in the sauce. The chef gave me something else, I think it was a vegan omlette with no meat and no crawfish. Look I can understand a mistake, the waitress was all apologetic I get that, not her fault it's the chef. The second time I try again and think eggs Benedict with avacado. Delicious food under cooked egg whites and to my surprise not an avacado to be found. Their food is delicious! Their policy of charging an additional 15% gratuity on TO GO orders is completely absurd and very shady. I have no problem with a restaurant applying gratuity for large parties who dine in to protect their service workers (who are taking orders, bringing food, refilling drinks, and everything else they do to provide great service) against people who do not tip appropriately. But let's face it, this is a 15% charge for someone to place food containers into a bag. After I arrived and gave my credit card, I noticed the charge and asked the hostess/waitress about it, and she said "Oh, that is applied to all orders over $100." (My pretax total was $98, but that's not the point.) If my experience today was an act of a rogue employee to sneak an extra $15 into their pocket, then that is one thing... but if this is the directive of management, they should be ashamed of themselves. read more

Great food. We've been here a number of times without having the same thing twice. The only thing I haven't liked was a hamburger that was slightly over cooked and too much mustard. Service can be inconsistent but we keep coming back so it is never awful, just less than ideal at times. After posting the above we returned for lunch on Sunday, October 23 and experienced the low point for food and service. Ordered the Sunrise breakfast. Cold eggs, pancakes that were supposed to have white chocolate in them were instead the standard pancake with the white chocolate chips sprinkled on top. We complained and received replacements for both. This time both were hot and properly prepared. The Cochon de Lait panini was good but the bread was burned in the press. The effect was slight crispier bread but mostly just presentation. The most consistent service issue is being seated with no utensils. Often the food is served and you have to wait for the utensils to be delivered. The other issue is that once have your food the waiter may not return until time for the check. I do not intend to give the impression that this is a place to avoid. We will be back. Most of the time the food is great. My original review was 4 stars but I felt the inconsistencies warranted a reduction to 3. read more
