I have been looking for a good honest watch repair shop and About Time and owner Mo fit that bill. He is very knowledge able about watches and provides excellent customer service. I have several vintage watches that needed service - so I went in based on their good reviews. I am very glad I did, I started with a simple battery replacement and to see if they could repair the crystal on my Movado that had come off. The watch battery replacement was done quickly. With the Movado, Mo recommended that I send it back to the factory to have them repair it, to ensure that it was done correctly and to make sure the watch was sealed. I respect that he passed up a repair that could have made him a lot of money, instead opting to do what he thought was best for the customer and the watch. I appreciate his honesty, integrity and friendly attitude. Since then, I have had the battery replaced in several watches, a watch band replaced, and an internal service to my vintage Seiko Turtle (6309-7049). The service was done in a timely manner (about a week) and done very well. I have been to big name jewelry stores that quoted me 6-8 weeks to have the service done at a much higher price. I am going to stick with Mo and About Time for my future watch repair needs. read more

I found "About Time" through their sister store, Time Zone, in Grossmont Center Mall. I was interested in looking at some specific Victorinox watches and called ahead to ensure they had them in stock before I drove from east county. I met one of the owners (I can't remember his name), who was very pleasant and answered all of my questions and then some. The best part was that he was interested in helping me identify a watch that *I* loved and would work for what I wanted. At no time did I ever feel remotely pressured, either to purchase from him or to leave if I wasn't interested. The owner is really nice, very polite and friendly, and openly honest. He replaced one of my watch batteries literally within seconds and also readjusted the size of the wrist strap! I flew in and out of there in less than 5 minutes! He gave me some helpful advice about the care of my watch, and was open about discussing how to take care of it. As far as watch battery replacement prices, I think it was very reasonable! One thing though is that this very neat and tiny establishment is easy to miss as it is squished between Baja Bettys and another store :) Save yourself any stress and time and go there! I'm a New Yorker and readily admit to having very high expectations when it comes to service, product and price, and I please to tell you About Time excels in every category. On a recent visit to San Diego, I took Mo 8 watches to get new batteries and bands. This was my first time in his store and I was extremely impressed. He uses top of the line replacement batteries and offers an extensive line of leather bands, and he clearly knows his business. He did everything in less than hour after helping me select the right band for my 8 watches. Best of all the price was VERY fair. I love this place very much, not only did I get my watch fix they have a good brands watches in the store the the store owner knows watches. I needed my battery replaced in my Cartier Watch. I went inside and there were not any customers and said he could do it. There was a big sign outside that read "Watch Batteries Replaced" $10.99. I authorized him to replace it and he insisted on cleaning it. I asked how long that would take. He said about 45 minutes and it would cost $25.00 to clean. I explained that I didn't have time to wait for it to be cleaned today. He said it makes him "feel bad" to let a Cartier leave without being cleaned and he could do it in 20 minutes. I agreed and asked if I could use his rest room while I waited. He directed me a a restruant next door (implying they don't have one)! I guess he NEVER has to use the facility all day while he is at work! I walked next door and the entrance was a two-story entry (2 flights of steps). I just got my foot out of a cast and can't do stairs yet. I retreated back to my car and sat there waiting for the 20 minutes to pass so I could get my watch. 20 minutes later I walked back in and he handed me my watch. He said he didn't have time to clean it after all (so I waited the additional 20 minutes for nothing)!. The icing on the cake...he charged $45 to change the battery although his sign read $10.99. For over a year, I have been attempting to find a replacement diamond bezel, that was mysteriously missing when I went to pick up my watch after I had left it for cleaning. At the time I was upset because I was burying my husband. The watch was my most cherished gift from him. The man told me that it was missing when I brought the watch in. I did not have the strength to argue with him. He said he could try to find a replacement bezel but I would have to pay $300.00 upfront for him to search and do the work. In the past, my husband had given this store so much business as he was a watch collector. The man did not know me because he always dealt with my husband in previous transactions. I felt cheated and taken advantage of. I do not know if the same people own the store or manage the store since this incident, but I know the bezel was there when I brought it in for cleaning. How does one fight this when it is your word against another's word? You have to weigh whether it is worth fighting. Anyway, this was my experience. read more

Great experience. My everyday watch stopped last week and when I got out my back ups, three were dead and one was dying. I walked in at About Time, showed the man (who I found out later was Mo the owner) my watches and he gave me a price and told me they would be ready in about an hour. I said "Wait a minute. I know at least one will need to be pressure tested and the other jewelry store I've had change the batteries always needs to keep it overnight." Mo said he has all necessary equipment and does it on site. Why have I been wasting my time with a poorly equipped jewelry store when Mo has everything needed? So I went shopping and about 40 minutes later I was going to my car to drop off my purchases and there was Mo goofing off in front of his store. I said "Why aren't you working on my watches?" He said "They are ready." Well, it turned out that one watch was beyond repair as circuits were fried so he really only changed batteries in three. Ok, one uses two batteries so all the batteries, plus pressure test, plus he cleaned my best watch so it was sparkling (free of cleaning charge) and he had everything ready earlier than promised. What more could you want? Mo is a pro and it is easy to see he enjoys his profession. read more

I had two Tag Heuer quartz watches in need of battery replacement. I had tried jewelry stores in the past but they typically farm the work out leaving me with little confidence in who would be doing the work and how well it would get done. After talking with Mo about my watches and what needed to be done I was convinced he was the right person to work on my watches. He demonstrated a reasonable understanding of the two models I brought in, and provided me with useful information regarding care and maintenance. Mo did all the work himself, cleaning the watches, replacing the seals and batteries, and pressure testing them both. They were ready slightly before promised and Mo even set the time and date on both before returning them. It was clear that Mo knows his business as there were no tool marks or fingerprints on either watch when returned. The price is definitely worth the piece of mind and Mo is a serious watch guy who is meticulous in his work. I will use Mo again and recommend him to family and friends. read more
