I needed a watch battery - no big deal. Except the last time I bought one (NOT from About Time) I was assured it would last 5 years. So I was annoyed when it didn't. But Mo saved the day! Actually he knew exactly who I had bought the prior battery from and let me know that no watch battery will last that long. He replaced it, and placed his info on the inside of the case so that if I had any problems I did not need to worry about saving the receipt. Cost $10.75. Ummmm, I'm gonna go with five star service. I used Yelp and saw this place was close to my house and had 4.5 stars so I walk in. Two guys pleasantly greeted me and I told them my precious tactical Nixon watch had not been working for about a year and it was time for it to come out of the jewelry box. I was confidently told no problem! And to give them 5 minutes. The wife and I waited outside in our golf cart (yes that close in the neighborhood) and people watched (no pun). After a few minutes the nice man came out and said, "All set"! I paid $10 bucks and some change and they cleaned and set the watch. The shop was well lit and the display cases were clean and enticed me to maybe take a glance at something I don't need? Anyway, I have to say, they went the extra mile and it was truly a 5 star service, plus a small neighborhood shop so I felt good about that! read more

Totally satisfied. I brought in two watches needing batteries. One was a simple affair, an inexpensive DKNY with a second hand that seems always to need a new battery. The other was a 20 year old 14K gold Seiko, not only very valuable but also with great sentimental value to me, that needs tender loving care and a really knowledgeable watch maker. Mo replaced the battery in the DKNY watch on the spot and mentioned that the one he was replacing was generic with a shorter useful life than the Energizer he installed. He also dated the battery so we can see how long it lasts. His estimate was 2 years. The gold watch has an intricate internal mechanism and a complex bracelet. He replaced the battery and the gasket and cleaned the gold with an ultrasonic device after removing the quartz movement. It looks like new. Next time, he will replace the crystal. I returned in an hour to pick up the Seiko after a delicious lunch at Liv down the street, recommended by Mo, who was very charming and put me at ease. I think he could tell I was nervous because I had always taken my Seiko to the Seiko repair center in Orange County. Well that place has closed down now and I would have had to send it to New Jersey. Thank you Mo! I think anyone who needs expert watch repairs, or even simple ones, should not hesitate to bring their watches here. I had a ton of work to do and wanted to go somewhere trustworthy. If you're like me, this IS your place. So I needed a battery in my nice watch replaced, the watch cleaned, and my wedding rings and husband's ring cleaned. When I picked them up, I was so overwhelmed with happiness!! Honestly I was considering just replacing my rings because they were so dingy... and since I work out so much they were bent out of shape badly. The diamond was lackluster... and when I picked them up I couldn't even recognize them! So happy I decided to get them cleaned instead of replaced. Super reasonable pricing too. read more

When I walked in with a Chelsea ship's clock Mo assured me that he was an expert. Multi generations, he himself over 10 years... In his response to my original review he talks about not meeting my expectations for a decades old clock! My expectations were to replace a mainspring. It turns out that it's a simple 5 minute job where only the spring subassembly requires removal. It ended up costing me hundreds more to repair and replace parts that were perfectly ok, but somehow couldn't escape being disturbed, broken, or reinstalled incorrectly. I stand by my original assessment of this person's inability; I would not trust him to change blades in my box cutter. The attempt to qualify himself by insinuating that my expectations were extraordinary is pitiful. read more

This place is the best!!!. My watch got stuck in the machine while they were replacing the battery, so they ordered me a new watch. Only took a few days. When I recieved it, it was slightly different in color, which I was told about before hand. I ended up liking the color better. I also got my old watch back with a new battery minus three sparkles, so that will be my backup. Very nice and great customer service. Makes you feel very welcome right when you walk in. Knowledgeable and reasonably priced. I took in a 40 year old Seiko SpeedTimer that needed a lot of work and a new crystal. The owner gave me a comprehensive appraisal of the needed repairs and did the work on time. He also has a supply of hard to find crystals that he purchased 20 years ago. You'll have difficulty finding anyone else in the area with the same inventory. My vintage watch looked brand new after the work was done and it finally keeps accurate time. Stopped in a few years ago to get a simple battery replaced, and was so impressed with the friendly, efficient customer service and the prices that this place has become my go-to spot for watch repair. I like watches and have a dozen or so, from inexpensive Skagens to a couple middle of the road Tags and Movados. This shop handles them all, and cleans them up so I get my watch back in 24 hours looking brand new. He will do a quick battery while u wait, but since I moved out of town, I save all my work for him when I visit SD and dump 3 or 4 on him and pick up the next day. Most batteries under $20, more for high end watches, but still less than any mall jeweler. One of these days I will break down and buy a Rolex or an Omega, and will probably buy it here, but even if I don't he will inspect any watch I am thinking of buying before I close the deal to make sure it is authentic. Battery died on my Omega Seamaster Pro and I did some research on who to take it to for servicing. After I read some reviews I decided to take it to Mo at About Time. Very knowledgeable and very precise. Changed my battery, cleaned the corrosion off of my contacts, replaced the gasket and sent me on my way. Excellent experiece - it was $10.75 to change my watch battery and the service was EXCELLENT! The gentleman working changed it while I waited, and it took less than five minutes. In talking to him, it also came out that he charges about HALF the cost of what my husband paid at a jewelry store to change the battery on his higher end watch.
