Ten years ago during a routine checkup my primary care physician noticed an irregularity in my skin on the left side of the bridge of my nose. Dr. Cohen confirmed that the irregularity on my nose was basal cell carcinoma. I was promptly scheduled for Mohs surgery, which Dr. Cohen personally performed. The cancer being on my face, it was a delicate situation. Dr. Cohen performed the surgery very skillfully, removing only the material that was necessary and leaving all normal tissue intact. I am very pleased with the resulting look. I have found that through Dr. Cohen and his professional practice I now have access to state of the art medical and cosmetic procedures and skin care products. Though I started out as an anxious patient with skin cancer, Dr. Cohen addressed that. Since that time, Dr. Cohen's practice has allowed me to confidently move ahead with advanced skin care and prevention practices that not only help protect me from future cancer but have improved the overall condition of the skin on my face and neck. This has allowed me to relax in the confidence and knowledge that there is no one better qualified to advise me on how to care for my skin than Dr. Cohen and his staff. I have been a patient of Dr. Contreras for a while now and he and his staff have always made me comfortable. I often joked about being an "annuity" for a dermatologist so they had better take good care of me as I have had multiple skin cancers as well as a chronic skin condition. A recent biopsy on a small lesion on my nose was identified as a basal cell carcinoma. Unfortunately, I had undergone MOHS surgery in another practice a couple of years earlier in the exact location and this was a recurrent tumor. Dr. Contreras referred me to his partner at About Skin, Dr. Joel Cohen for MOHS. I met Dr.Cohen in early summer and together, we discussed the diagnosis, treatment and outcome and most importantly agreed upon a timeline that would allow me to enjoy the majority of my summer in the pool with the grandkids. About 10 days ago I had the surgery done in the Swedish Medical Office building location. The procedure was scheduled later in the day and ended up being there for close to 5 hours due to the fact that it required four excisions before he could come to me with confidence stating that the margins were clear on any sign of tumor. Now the fun began as I had a significant hole in my nose and thought to myself no way can he bring this thing together without a skin graft. Dr. Cohen was fantastic and truly an artist in reconstructing my nose. I initially had a significant amount of swelling and bruising but less than 2 weeks later after having my sutures removed I am amazed at how good my nose looks and NO SKIN GRAFT! I want to thank Dr. Cohen and his staff for there fantastic care. Maria, your administration of my local anesthetic was the best ever you have quite a touch and Michael, your willingness to explain everything and deliver post-op instructions was the best. I am very happy with Dr Ho. I've had a scar on my face - near my mouth for pretty much my entire life. It is an indented scar & for the last several years filler has worked like a charm. I'm originally from Chicago & when I lived there I went to a plastic surgeon for my injections. When I moved out here I went to another plastic surgery place but a Medispa technician was the one doing the injections. Due to her technique (we are realizing now) I started getting puffiness around the scar. My friend works at a laser spa & offered to do laser treatments on the scar. It made the scar look better but the puffiness even worse. So I decided it's time to go to the best dermatologists in Colorado (this was after seeing a plastic surgeon & other dermatologist who both had no idea what was wrong with me). I decided if I am going to have a small puffy area on my face we should at least refill in the indented scar in the middle of it. Dr Ho agreed but was never satisfied & was determined to figure out what the puffiness was. I hadn't had filler in almost 3 years so the situation was very mysterious. After several visits & Dr Ho discussing my case with several colleagues & research he thought maybe it could be filler from years ago that went where it wasn't supposed to. I thought it was a long shot but why not. He injected me with filler dissolver & said I would see results within a few hours if that was the issue. If that wasn't the issue then I would have the same results. Well, I'm glad he researched & talked to others about my situation because he nailed it. The puffiness is gone & I wish I would've gone to him sooner! It's nice to have a doctor who is thorough & is still thinking about you when you walk out of his office! My old / other dermatology company took many weeks to schedule an appointment. I have been a patient of AboutSkin Dermatology for several years. For the past few years I have been under the care of Dr. Michael Contreras for my skin check appointments and some aesthetic services (IPL with Dr Contreras and Ultherapy with Christine). I went to About Skin Dermatology after being referred by two friends, for a suspicious growth on my cheek that had not healed. I first saw Dr. Ho. He and his staff are truly amazing and gifted professionals. Dr. Ho immediately recognized the growth as basal cancer. He was so thorough and caring about the diagnosis and the biopsies. I had two cancer growths. Dr. Ho did an excision on one of them and then referred me to his colleague Dr. Cohen who did the Moh's surgery on the other basal cancer. Both Dr.'s took the time to go over my options and answer any questions prior to the surgery. The care, the surgeries, the post ops and now the full recovery has gone smoothly and I have received so many compliments on the results. Both Drs. were kind, compassionate and extremely good/ very thorough surgeons. From now on, I will only be using this practice. Being as up to date as I am comfortable with, I struggled to have any fillers, Botox, etc. done as it just seemed unnatural . Also, I was concerned about the results, imagining botched procedures, weird looking facial contortions etc. but, since I go to a skin doctor twice a year for pre cancer check ups with the wonderful Dr. Stoler, I started paying attention to the people that were there for aesthetics. So many glowing reviews and "naturally attractive " people that I finally took the step and WOW, I am SO VERY pleased...I have now become a regular, going once or sometimes twice annually. Dr. Contreras is so caring, exceptionally interested in the work he performs, and above all, very professional. I know people who have had the same procedures done elsewhere with no where near the quality I have received, and I just look better- not fake or Barbie-like, just a less tired, not as aged and more vibrant. I was shocked to get on here and see the only reviews allowed by YELP were negative ones? I have been going to Dr. Contreras and AboutSkin for 2 years now. I have never received anything except stellar care in a professional and caring environment. I recently some pretty intensive procedures (PDL Therapy AND laser resurfacing for skin damage/pre-cancerous lesions). I was with Dr. Contreras and staff for HOURS on a Friday afternoon. Every single person involved in each procedure was professional, kind and thoughtful. In fact, when it was done, one of Dr. Contreras' staff drove, in rush hour, to the other location to get me a 'laser balm' that the Dr. wanted me to have. They checked on me to make sure I was comfortable in the days following. I highly recommend Dr. Contreras and his office staff. I am a 66 year old with lots of moles, sunspots, freckles. Since I've lived in Denver, I am careful to have skin cancer checks every year. I have seen several, supposedly the best around, in the past 20 years. I was becoming dissatisfied with my dermatologist at the time, and a friend recommended Dr. Contreras. I saw him at his office at Sky Ridge. No one has ever given me such a thorough and thoughtful exam. Makes me really wonder about the several others I've seen over the years. I went to see Dr Cohen after receiving biopsy results for basal cell carcinoma. I researched extensively regarding who the best MOHS surgeons are and it was his name that stood out. I was extremely satisfied with the entire staff at AboutSkin. They are professional as well as caring. Dr Cohen performed MOHS on my face and it went better than expected. Had a biopsy done and am waiting on results, but assume it is another basal cell that will have to be removed with Moh's again by Dr. Cohen who is also fabulous.
