My bike's rear tire went flat again, luckily Abraham Fixes Bikes was right nearby to walk my bike to! I told them about the ongoing issue of my rear tire going out, and they luckily had the right size tire to replace it once and for all. I've been getting $20 patchwork for a bit, but went with a $45 tire that would be overall better quality for these glassy roads! It took them under 15 minutes to replace. Great experience with a local bike shop. Every shop in town has a five week wait right now to work on a bike. I brought my bike in yesterday to get a new crank installed. I was given a quote of $50 and was told it would be done by the end of the week. The bike was complete and ready to pick up within 24 hours and the charge is exactly what I was quoted. I took it out for a ride, and everything works perfectly. I will never take my bike anywhere else. These guys are the best. read more

I've gone into A.F.B. every so often over the years and have had mixed reviews. A while ago they replaced a tire and tube on my rear wheel and failed to tighten the bolts correctly, resulting in my rim seizing up against my frame. I had to abandon my bike and proceed with a Lyft as result. This past visit was the worst and most disrespectful customer service from a bike shop ~ I had injured my right hand and wanted to switch my brake lever to the left (uninjured side). The gruff and unfriendly bearded guy lent me an Allen tool to take off the brake only to discover I further needed a simple screwdriver to pry off the hardware holding the lever - he refused to lent me the tool and further insisted I give back the Allen tool before I was able to put my lever back on. He was intimidating due to his size and just plain rude. There are far better and cheaper bike shops in town like Metropolis. Please support them instead. read more

Abraham and team are the absolute best. I am a novice cyclist at best and have checked out a couple shops as they are everywhere. When I walked in the shop to check things out and talk about my granny cruiser Abraham made me feel very comfortable and was absolutely encouraging about riding. I got the big daddy bike tune-up, added some fenders and a basket. He didn't do any up-selling- in fact he was on the conservative side. I really appreciated how honest and genuine he was- again he made me feel really comfortable about the work I was having done. Fast forward a couple weeks later and my partner (mister usually fixes everything himself) brought in his ancient Trek mountain bike and again Abraham made some suggestions and we left the bike in competent hands of the shop. I highly recommend this shop for anyone that has a bike. I especially recommend it for those of us new to the cycling world where many shops come off super elite- Abraham is super inclusive!! Last week, after I had some work done, there was a problem with the derailleur which didn't exist before I brought it in. I needed a tune-up for my bike, other shops were telling me I couldn't be seen for a month. Abraham told me it would take about a week to get it done, but it ended up being just a few days! I know bike shops are really busy during the pandemic so I was impressed with the quick turn around. And the final cost ended up being less than the price he initially quoted me. It was easy to schedule a no-contact drop off and pick up, which made me feel super safe. My bike is now riding like a dream, so fast! Based on the good reviews here, it seems like this shop preys on novice cyclists. I had a tune-up here a year ago, and I've had nonstop issues after letting them replace a few components on my bike. I've had multiple friends and bike mechanics things that should've been taken care of or replaced since, and I would've expected this shop to let me know that during a tune-up. Everyone I spoke to at this shop was nice, but it doesn't really seem like anyone at this place knows what they're doing. read more

Absolutely recommend this place and will be coming back myself if my bike ever needs it. Three months after buying a used bike the shifting, which was never great, started to fail completely. Brought it in (no appointment needed) and Aaron walked me through what was wrong, why it happened (apparently this kind of old bike is known to have shifting problems after a time, shop that sold it to me didn't feel the need to tell me that) and just what would need to be done and replaced and why to fix it. He also went though some bike basics with me (someone who knows roughly nothing about bikes besides how to ride one) and was super nice though all of it! Just plain rude. Walked in to get air AND a quote/inquiry on replacing tires and rims. Ahem, a potential customer looking to do work on my bike. The shop DOG was the first to greet me by licking up and down all over my legs and then clawing up my legs on bare skin. I was sporting and patted him on the head and used a cute dog voice, even though my skin scratches easily. The guy sitting closest to me behind the counter didn't move or look up. The other guy working in back came out to help me. As he filled my tire and I was asking about replacing my tires, the dog would not leave me alone and kept licking and pawing, I said "Ok enough" expecting the owner(s) to be respectful of a customer and my personal space. NOPE. The guy behind the counter who was too cool to help, engage or greet me despite noone else being in the shop immediately dismisses me with a snotty tone "YOU can take the bike outside. The DOG is part of our shop." Seriously?? I care for animals and there is a time and place. I was good natured to begin with but there is a line that must be drawn while I am trying to actually conduct business and potentially buy from your shop. Another pompous Portland experience. Dick moves. Customer service on the whole is lacking in this town big time compared to my other city experiences..... read more

After trying out a number of bike shops in town, I've settled on Abraham Fixes Bikes as my repair shop of choice. The primary reason for this is the stellar customer service. On multiple occasions, I've brought my bike in for service and gotten extra advice. The advice was meant to educate, not to sell me anything. For example, when I came to get help with a recurring flat tire, they pointed out that my fenders had such little clearance that they were rubbing against my wheel rims. Instead of trying to sell me new ones with better mounting hardware, they offered to cut and adjust my current fenders to have more clearance. It was a clever (and free) solution to a problem that they didn't have to point out. On another occasion, I came in for a semi-annual tune-up. Once it was complete, they offered to replace my adjustable stem with a fixed one. I hadn't noticed any issues with my current one, but they pointed out that it could slip over time and wasn't as sturdy. They gave me a fixed one (that matched the current angle of my adjustable) for free, and installed it, also for free. Excellent service, convenient location, and reasonable prices make this my go-to shop. read more

Lovely bike shop with a good selection of parts, and a very helpful owner/operator. He's not a miracle worker, so if you come in during a sunny weekend day he's likely to be backed up with existing work orders, but if he has time he's happy to do while-you-wait work. Prices are honest, work is good, location is convenient. My bike is my main medium of transport. We go everywhere together and I don't know what I would do without her. (Yes, my bike identifies as she/her.) Last night as I was riding home and on oddly enough my left crank broke/bent into a lopsided position. Perhaps it was caused by some faulty manufacturing or weak metal. I went to Abraham's and was helped by Trevor. He was professional and had time to repair my bike on the spot! Thankfully they had the part in stock and I also got a basic tune-up which was very much needed because my brakes were worn down. It took a few hours and "viola!" Man this guy is really great. I heard good things and I've seen him on the street helping other people out of his shop--so I had to give him a try. I was not disappointed. He is an adorable and kind person who is eager to help and easy to chat with. And his prices are WAY reasonable. I went here, newly returned to Portland with a vintage bike that needed a tune-up/overhaul in a fair way. The staff was great but in the last year I have not stopped having issues with the bike after getting it back. Brake issues, the fender was wonky from the beginning and has been consistently an issue, handlebar taps fell off quickly, gear shifters broke; none of which would be too big a deal, all being small fixes overall, if it didn't seem like I paid an inordinate amount of money to have to just go to another bike shop to get all my problems solved. I must say that I didn't know what was usual at the time, pricing or wear-wise, maybe I should have gone back and they would have responded to my bike, but even so, I paid a lot and didn't seem to get my money's worth as far as bike trouble was concerned. read more

Went in looking to buy a multi tool and was met with unparalleled patronization. The employee- white guy with a long beard- foregoed asking me my knowledge base or experience level to instead tell me what tools I "needed" to fix my bike, assuming that I had no idea how to fix my chain, to go on at length about the uses of basic tools, to assume that I didn't have a nice road bike. So with there being many bicycle places around, and much room for laziness/sloppiness, I was VERY leery of bringing my specially customized pride and joy/dream bike into just any place. So, after doing much research, I found Abraham Fixes Bikes.... I was QUITE IMPRESSED with Williams's extensive experience and knowledge/discernment. So earlier this morning on May 27, 2017, I took my dream bike into Abraham Fixes Bikes where I was greeted by William. On another note, the shop looked real nice/organized just so, also featuring unique wooden counters. During the consultation, he got right down to business, showcasing his extensive experience and knowledge/discernment. Among the many parts needed for the bike, which we had discussed, I had asked him about brake pads. He then pulled out a certain unique pair, which I had never seen or even been shown by any other bike place before. I had then asked about Kevlar tires, he then showed me the most PERFECT set of tires, the first time around. The tires also featured reflective sidewalls. I'm VERY blessed to had found him. I had also showed him the wheelset as Easton EA50 Aero Road, which I had purchased time ago from REI..... The two REI representatives I had worked with had FAILED to tell me the most important aspects of that particular wheelset. I was definitely not told what was real, smh.... They had ALSO installed such low quality pairs of brake pads, which had scratched the rims, SMH. TYPICAL CORPORATE ENTITIES. While William was on the computer entering my information, I had given him my card to pay for everything. He had then handed the card back to me, and said, "You can pay when you pick the bike up. I then asked him for the wifi password. He then said, "We only use Ethernet." I then walked across the street to New Seasons, then ordered the wheelset. I'm now waiting for the new wheelset to be shipped in from Amazon where ALL shopping is done; however, will most definitely post pictures of the finished work of art, as well as, other details of the process. Also, later after leaving the shop, I had noticed that I wasn't even given a receipt or even slip, which would prove that I had in fact dropped the frame off. I was quite leery, to say the least. Also, this is a hipster-type establishment. So far, everything is on point, except for that hipster mentality, and no receipt. ___________________________________________ So today, on June 14, 2017, the wheelset had finally arrived, so once again, I had taken a taxi to the shop. Once again, William and I had gone over the details. He then gave me the price of $220.00. I then said, great, here is my card. He then said, "We don't accept debit or credit. We only accept cash and check." We then went back and forth. I then walked across the street to New Seasons to get $20 cash-back for the time he had spent with me on the frame. When I had returned from New Seasons, the frame and wheels were sitting by my stuff on the counter. I then waited out front for a car to arrive. I had then taken the frame/wheels to another shop and had found out that other things needed to be repaired, as well, which William had failed to notice/mention. read more

Brought my Ridley cross bike turned commuter in to Abraham's for a full tune-up. I ride to work every day, rain or shine, and it takes a major toll on my bike. I had no idea how much that had degraded the experience though (particularly shifting) until I received my bike back from them, cleaned up and tuned. Wow. It doesn't even make sense how much faster and smoother my bike feels! I worked with a couple different people, and they were friendly, approachable, knowledgeable, and didn't try to up-sell me on stuff like some of the other shops I've been to. William also mentioned that they try to repair and rebuild first rather than just throw away otherwise fine components, which appeals to me greatly as a sustainability-minded person.
