We've been going to railroad park resort since the 1990's and eating there every time we come through town - 2-3 times a year. They used to make a great steak, with a deep dark sauce with mashed potatoes and veggies. I recently ordered the steak - $58.00 - making it the most expensive entree in the area (including the high end places in Mccloud, etc) and it had no sear. was under cooked. Had no seasoning. No sauce. The potatoes were rubber and the veggies were gross. The pork chop was similarly under-cooked and had the same sides -so same feedback. I looked for a manager to talk to and couldn't find one. So I messaged them on facebook and they told me I could come by any time and talk to the cook. Where was the cook the night I was there? I was told there was no manager to talk to. I only eat their when vactioning and can't just pop in. I live 5 hours away. If they're going to raise their prices from $40 to $60 for a steak - they need to up their gave. Instead they dropped the ball. The food isn't worth it and they don't care.

The dining car was a special treat, the meal overall was very good but could have been better with a little attention to detail. The rigatoni pasta dish was absolutely perfect , popping with flavor and as good as any I've ever had. We ordered a couple glasses of pinot noir with our dinner and when they arrived they were noticeably warm like 80-85 degrees like they had been roasting in the sun , not a pleasant room temp like they should be. We also ordered a large caesar salad that we all split and the lettuce was warm like it was sitting in a window soaking up the sun, plate was not chilled and even if it was it couldn't have cooled down hot lettuce, salad was light on dressing , the halved petite romaine was very bitter, i've purchased this lettuce at costco a couple times and stopped buying it because the petit romaine tends to be very bitter, i love the consistency of the smaller denser heads of lettuce but the bitterness is unpleasant .....hopefully the chef is tasting his food and can see what he thinks. My wife ordered the pasta with shrimp and loved it! My dad had the rib eye and said it was pretty good but maybe not 57$ good. The pasta dishes were 10/10 amazing , reasonably priced and generous in size , the warm wine and salad is an easy fix, it was a nice treat after a week of camping and cooking to not have to , so highly recommend giving them a try for dinner during your stay!! Mountain scenery was incredible from the campground!! The pool was a little crowded at times but we enjoyed a couple hours of pool time both days. The host in the campground Frank and his dog Reno were great !! We really enjoyed our visit and wouldn't hesitate to stop in again, a lovely place to spend a couple days !!! Thank you!!!Cheers !!

There is so much to explore on the property and nearby. Fishing Ponds, Remote Control airplanes and landing strip on the property. Down the road is McCloud Golf Course staring straight at Mt. Shasta! We went on an awesome hike on the Squaw Creek Tr all along the beautiful river. We rode bikes around Friday's Meadow. They have places to rent if you don't want to haul the RV. We will definitely go back and rent the Lookout Cabin for our family reunion!

Shasta Package. We got married at the peninsula with a view of Mt. Shasta in the background. It was magical! Our reception area was just as beautiful. Our wedding party stayed at Look Out Lodge, which is a large 8 person cabin on the property. It was so much fun to have my dearest friends and family right there to celebrate with me from beginning to end. My husband and I took advantage of the Pond House, a small two person cabin right on the pond where we got married, which became our honeymoon suite. Many of my out of town guests brought up their tents and camped. They had access to a clean restroom and showers the whole time. I believe there's an option to bring RVs as well. All of this was included in the package! And the host was very kind and accommodating. I highly recommend Friday's Retreat as a destination wedding site. It is the place to be if you want an outdoor wedding with a view of Mt.Shasta.

We're in a campervan, so we booked a spot for campsite B, which is located in the back away near extra parking. I liked our spot. It has lots of shade. However, due to our location, we didn't get to connect to their WiFi because it's too far from the main office. What I liked about the campground: pool, mini playground for the kids, hot showers, activity center, shaded camp sites. What I didn't care for: trains are nearby and come frequently. We counted about 6 at night. This KOA is located next to an apartment complex. The road in is very narrow (two-way), so drivers need to be cautious, especially if you're towing. Guy at the front got jokes. This campground is well maintained.

The electrical pedestals are older, so I'd recommend bringing a surge protector. The sewer hookup at our site sat well above ground, making it difficult to properly drain our tanks. The small trash cans and some of the older yard décor also made the park feel a bit dated. Overall, we enjoyed our stay and would return because of the convenient location and spacious sites.

Booked a pull through, full hookup spot last March. As others have said, the road along the final mile is rough & some traffic noise can be heard throughout the night from I-5 above. No biggie. We had a few issues though. We were unable to drive into our campsite due to trees. We have a 30' trailer pulled by a Ford F-250. Pulling in we almost got stuck. We had to back out to drive the wrong way up a one way lane then back into our space. The spaces are small and parked vehicles added to the navigation challenges. Ultimately we made it in and set up camp for the night. Also our wi-fi password didn't work and there was a billing issue. Our Elks Lodge discount price wasn't applied. We weren't able to purchase any of their farm fresh eggs because we couldn't connect with Karen & Jay. Tried contacting them by text, phone and email on our day of arrival and again the next day. Needed to cancel our July 6th reservation we booked for our return. Finally received an email on July 5th acknowledging our cancellation but there was no mention of correcting the billing issue. So we still need to pursue that. We don't want to disparage a family business. Karen & Jay obviously take pride in their campground. Perhaps they were overwhelmed by the upcoming Holiday or perhaps something came up. We wish them well.

No dog area though they do allow dogs. Train tracks back up to property so bring ear plugs. The river is not close by as owner will tell you. It's across the RR tracks and down a dirt road. Be prepared to walk through thorny berry bushes. The water pressure is very low, the Wi Fi is non existent (the owner will tell you different). Trash is over flowing and smells and RV SPOTS are not maintained. I agree with another reviewer "SLUM LORD" she just wants her rent.

The hike to the Crags is a once in a lifetime experience that if you are able to do you should not miss. Beautiful great views of Shasta and Lassen from the top of the Dome at the Crags. I spent the past four nights here, and it was very quiet, dark, and peaceful…read more Quiet with the caveat that there was a TON of train noise. But if you like white noise, that might be a plus. This was the darkest campground I've ever camped at so far. The view of the stars was great. The cold was on another level. I wouldn't recommend tent camping unless you really know what you're doing. Theoretically, this campground has free showers, but they are closed for the season. I couldn't help but notice that the windows have been broken into and boarded back up. There was theoretically potable water, but it tasted a little funky. Most of the pumps were broken, which made it seem like maybe the rest are about to be determined to be broken soon. There was an electric outlet in the bathroom with a sign warning not to leave personal items. In site 25, which is reserved for PCT hikers, I found another sign warning that items are frequently stolen from the bathrooms, and to use the outlets hidden in the amphitheater instead. (There is also a Starbucks about fifteen minutes away in Shasta.) A trail behind site 25 leads to the PCT, but the trail was currently full of fallen trees and hazards. Another trail near Vista Point turned out to be a safer route to the PCT. A 2 mile trail leads from the campground to Vista Point, where you can either keep hiking, or take in the panoramic views of Mt. Shasta, Castle Crags, and the Gray Rocks. I chose site 38 to camp in, which was at the end of the line of sites that are currently open. The first two nights, I paid with the self serve envelope. The rest I purchased from the Ranger Station. Camping was only $25/night, half off with qualifying passes. So it only cost me $50 to stay here 4 nights. The spaces on the main road were huge, and very well spaced. There was a camp host on duty on site 20, and maintenance came through every day to clean the restrooms and empty the trash. I didn't see much wildlife except for a lot of birds. Wildflowers were just beginning to bloom on the trails. There isn't much to do near the campground, but I found this to be a great place to have some relative peace and quiet for a few days.
