Wasn't too sure what to expect, but was totally enchanted! Frank was great, checking us in, loading firewood into my car and escorting us to our charming creekside campsite. Had an incredible 5-star dinner prepared by Chef Adam in the lovely dining car with excellent service provided by Suzie. The food was so good, we went back for breakfast and then took our friends to dinner there!

Such a cute spot! My friends and I absolutely loved this hotel. Comfortable beds, very friendly staff, delicious menu options. Our only regret was that we only stayed one night! I would definitely return and recommend this place.

Staying in the caboose was really a lot of fun. It was clean and nice and warm. The grounds are very well kept, and we enjoyed our stay. The only negative was our Thanksgiving dinner at the restaurant. My salad was quite good, as it was a pea salad, but I had no time to finish it before my entrée arrived. As most people know Thanksgiving dinners out can be amazing. They can be lackluster or they can just be ho hum. I would put ours in that last category. I didn't get any cranberries. I like my gravy on my stuffing not on my potatoes, which tasted like that came out of a box. I would go again because the area around it is beautiful, but I would figure some other way to eat.

It's such a fun stop!! I've never stayed in a train and it's definitely better than I imagined. The diner is great. It has live music, full bar and great food! The crispy Brussels sprouts has a fried egg on top which actually tasted really great! I was told they just redesigned the whole menu. If you have been here before, definitely worth coming back to try the new menu!

First time visiting. The lodge grounds are big and beautiful. We loved the creek running through the grounds with butterflies and frogs. The little waterfall with the lily pads was delightful. The rooms are spacious and have comfortable beds. Lots of windows. In the room there is a Tv, microwave, and a fridge that kept our drinks nice and cold. We had dinner in the restaurant which is on the grounds of the lodge; ambience on point with live music. Pricey but worth it, and our server was superb. There is so much to see and do. Games to play and there was even a movie night with fresh popcorn being served. The lodge is not far from several waterfalls. We visited Hedge Creek and it was glorious and magnificent, small hike. Also not far from Historic Dunsmuir. Friendly town where we ate breakfast and dinner on our last night. Overall, all that we did and saw was worth every dollar. We plan to return in the future for more adventures.

    Beautiful area to stop.

We wanted a nice stop 1/2 way between Bend and Sacramento and the Railroad Park did not disappoint! The honeymoon car was roomy and full of interesting touches. The hot tub was clean and hot. But best of all was a great dinner in their authentic railroad car restaurant. Excellent bar and table service. Excellent food. The sax and rhythm jazz duo was perfect. Loved the bossa nova & posh classics from the 50s. To top it off there was a Halloween haunted car (it was 10/29) it was lots of fun. The Adam's Family Movie was playing on a big screen in the courtyard among the gas heaters. Five Stars. A real gem of a place. 10 miles south of Mt Shasta. Gorgeous trails and waterfalls nearby.

This place is incredible, especially for families with young kids! The dining car doesnt have a big menu, but the food I did have & drinks were great! The kids menu was perfect as well. We stayed in caboose #20, the only one with a deck overlooking the pool. It was perfect and the main hangout spot for the other families we were with. The pool area/picnic tables were in the perfect location as was the little stream and bridge the kids played in. For reference i have a 3 and 2 year old. My nephew even caught some tadpols and frogs! This is a great spot for families, cant wait to come back.

Came for happy hour and the experience of eating and drinking in a train because c'mon now who wouldn't want to. Our bar tender/ waitress Ray was awesome. She gave good suggestions on which wings to get. The blackberry jalapeño BBQ wings were freaking delicious, it was such a good sauce combo. And these weren't some puny tiny wings these were some massive ones, so yes we were definitely pleased. I loved the margarita. Our bartender made it perfectly. It was a pretty cool dining experience in the train car. Dimly lit and vintage train decor. Nice touch for October with kind of a haunting vibe. Would 10/10 recommend.

We had this on our list of places to stay in our RV on our way back home from Oregon to SoCal...we had high hopes based on what we saw on the website. Our son was super pumped and was hoping to see some trains there but only one to go on. The pathways to the creek are not groomed and are filled with bushes with thorns...again a miss :-(. Our spot was great and the running creek sound nd mountains were beautiful (this was a plus). They havewasp traps everywhere as there are tons of them, so be aware (I know we are outdoors, though this place has a ton of them). We were going to stay two nights but only stayed 12 hours (6pm to 5:45am) because it was a ghost town, especially on Monday and Tuesdays (restaurant is closed), they never answer phones or return calls...the playground for kids is full of wasps and run down (so we couldn't use it) :-(. Paid for two nights and had to eat the cost of the second night... :-( A good place to crash if you need to but nothing more than that. Needs a bit more TLC.

It was roomy, clean, quiet & comfortable. Three of us shared a 2-bedroom cabin. In 2017 I moved to Weed, and started coming to the restaurant at the resort for special lunches and dinners. The wait staff in the dining room is superb. They always make us feel like family. I sat on the outside deck for lunch last summer, but the wait staff out there was not at all the same. Food was slow coming and the everything was cold when it arrived. At my request, the fries were replaced with hot fries, but we had almost finished our lunch by the time they came. The food in the restaurant has been great without exception. I always ordered the Pork Ragu for dinner until they took it off the menu. I haven't been back for dinner. When I first started eating at the restaurant, one of the waiters told me about their rewards club for locals that I joined. They send me a certificate for $10 off when I have spent a certain amount. I think it's $200 which adds up fast. They also gift me a bottle of champagne every so often. Unfortunately, I haven't been able to use all the coupons quickly enough before they expire.

This is a major sanitation concern. IF the property thoroughly cleans and sanitizes the kitchenware between stays, this chore is an unnecessary burden on paying guests. If they do not reclean them, then the health and safety of incoming guests relies entirely on the honor system and the cleaning habits of previous occupants. It is incredibly unsettling to think the dishes we used may not have been professionally washed or sanitized. The cabin itself clearly got a "landlord special" French doors were stuck and wouldnt open. Had to call maintenance to get them fixed. The refrigerator and cabinet drawers overlap so tightly that opening the fridge makes the drawers to open, and vice versa. The fridge door is already dented, clearly from this problem. The blinds are old, broken, and don't close all the way. So we had to wake up with the sun every morning, spiderwebs in the ceiling corners throughout the cabin. For the price charged to stay here, guests should at least be guaranteed professional cleanliness. Unfortunately, this property missed the mark on all counts.

The staff informed us that the lake had been drained to help fight recent California wildfires, so that made me feel a little bit better. Anyways, the cabin was clean and everything you would need for a nice relaxing stay. My biggest qualm was that the hot water did not work so we were not able to take a shower (unless it was ice water cold). So let me take another tack and make sure that this is the place for you. First off, Mountain Meadow Resort isn't for everyone. If you can't be unplugged and off the grid, this place isn't for you. Seriously, there is no wi-fi, your smartphones are only useful as cameras because there is no cell signal, and the generator that provides electricity only runs from 6:30am to 11pm. Bookings typically go from Saturday to Saturday so if the prospect of not being able to check your texts, voicemail, e-mail and social media for a week gives you the heebee jeebees, then this place is not for you. Second, this place is remote. The resort is most definitely in the WILDerness. In the four years that I've gone I've come across black bears and been within spitting distance of a rattle snake, rattle going off, coiling and ready to strike. The nearest medical facility is 2 hours away by car. And that's not counting the fact that you could be half a dozen miles into a hike away from the resort and your parked car when you get injured. If that seems a bit too off the beaten track for you, then this place is not for you. ...Still reading? Then you must be adequately intrigued as to why people go and keep coming back to this wonderful place. And if the you're not scared off then you will likely fall in love with this place as I have. Read on if you want my attempt to add information you might be hoping to gleam from reading these reviews. This is a family run camp. Decades ago a group of families bought the place and ran it together. Their children now run the resort and while you're there you'll likely see the next generation starting to help out as well. Staff all have a direct connection to the resort via family, being visitors in years past themselves when they were younger, or being recruited by one of the first two categories. What that means is that your initial visit feels like you're an interloper at a family reunion, but on repeated trips you begin to feel that you too are part of the family, because you truly are. That sentiment permeates through and is felt not just by my wife and me but by my kids as well. I would love it if my kids worked here when they're older and if I could spend extended time helping out after I retire, whenever that is. Days can be spent on hikes, strenuous or relaxing. Obviously the former will reward you with amazing views. Unlike, say Yosemite, you could do your whole hike and never come across another group. If you do, it certainly will only be a handful. There are lakes to swim in and vistas to take in. The resort is positioned so that you can make a day hike where others will often have to backpack in and out. Sometimes you'll be tempted to backpack yourself and maybe stay over a night or two but what always draws me back is the food - homemade and delicious. Dinners are amazing. Lastly, the kids love it because of the independence and being outdoors. The "kids dinner" before the "adult one" is as much a highlight for the parents as it is the kids. More importantly my tech savvy kids being raised in the heart of Silicon Valley have no qualms with Mountain Meadow being a "screen free" place. And that alone makes our annual trip worth it.
