We stayed at Shasta Inn while passing through Mt. Shasta and appreciated the rustic charm and clean rooms. The property is simple but offers the basics for a short stay. There's also an on-site restaurant just past the lobby, which is convenient if you're not heading into town (the main downtown area is a short drive away). We were traveling with another couple who needed a ground floor room, and while the hotel doesn't have elevators, we were able to swap our second-floor room with theirs at check-in, which worked out fine. However, a few hours later we came back from dinner to find a woman walking into their room... yes, the one they were already staying in. Turns out the front desk mistakenly reassigned the same room to another guest. The staff member on duty (who had also checked us in) didn't seem particularly alarmed by the situation, which was surprising given the seriousness of the mix-up. It made me fear that someone had easily walked into our room too. I had also asked about borrowing some bags for cornhole, which is available in the front play area. The front desk agent wasn't very friendly and reminded me they were closing at 9pm and that there's a noise ordinance. Totally understandable, but it wasn't yet 9 and the activity area had already been shut down. One big heads-up for light sleepers: the inn is located very close to active train tracks. Trains came through several times overnight and the horns were loud. I'd suggest earplugs or choosing a different property if you're sensitive to sound. On a positive note, we were pleasantly surprised to receive a to-go breakfast bag when checking out. It included a pastry, granola bar, yogurt, and bottled water... perfect for our early morning hike up Mt. Shasta. A small recommendation to improve the guest experience: more attentiveness and care in how staff handle guest interactions could go a long way. Something as simple as a friendly tone and accurate room assignment tracking would've made a big difference. Great value. We stayed here in March (slow in doing the review) and thought the room was great. The bed is comfortable, and the shower was better than at the fancy hotel where we had stayed in San Francisco. The room is cute, and we loved the cabin touches, including a moose figure on a shelf above the door to the bathroom! We brought oatmeal to make in the microwave and supplemented that with coffee and treats from the morning take-and-go breakfast. The staff was friendly, the room was clean. We stayed at the Shasta Inn for two nights during our recent Northern California vacation. On arriving there was a friendly and fast check in, and service overall was quite friendly during our stay. The grounds are lovely, surrounded by huge trees that give it a forest-like setting. Our room was small but attractive with tile floors and wood accents. There is an in-house restaurant but it was closed Tuesdays and Wednesdays; however, a couple restaurants are within walking distance. The hotel is located only a short drive away from the main city. Although these positives are in Shasta Inn's favor, a number of other things left us disappointed overall in our stay. None were major in and of themselves, but the accumulation was frustrating. Many were due to certain aspects of the room. The sink is in the bathroom itself, not outside of it, slowing down getting ready in the morning. There is no closet, a major frustration - only a weird structure with two shelves and a metal pipe near the door. AND NO HANGERS to hang something on that pipe thing. So we ended up draping clothes that needed drying all over the place. What do skiers do in the winter when they return with sodden clothes and jackets? There are a number of drawers, so if you don't care about wrinkles/damp items and just need to fold your clothes you'll be ok. Otherwise maybe pack a few hangers! There is a mini fridge and microwave in the room. However, the high, skinny table in the entryway is not well suited for eating in the room. And the two trashcans are perhaps the smallest we have ever seen in a hotel. I had to empty them myself a few times. In sympathy with the trash cans the coffee cups are also the tiniest ever seen, maybe 6 ounces? No Kleenex, 1 hand towel, 1 wash cloth, and 2 bath towels. We supplemented by corralling a maid to obtain more. Two USB ports were in the room, both inoperable. The HVAC fan was loud and would turn on/off throughout the night; I tried to keep the fan constant but that disables the heat and AC. Nighttime lighting is poor but the bed was comfortable. There is a free grab and go breakfast from 8 to 10 AM. It consist of a water bottle, a tiny yogurt, and two Quaker chocolate chip bars. This hotel is lovely and quaint, but overall it was not a comfortable visit for us. read more

Nice clean place. Not sure how long it's been there but it's been around for a while... it's renovated and quite comfortable. Two reasons it doesn't get five stars from me. The bathroom in our room had a tiny shelf, no counter space to speak of to put toiletries on. They served no breakfast. There is a restaurant on site, but it was closed the morning we were there so just coffee and tea in the lobby, but we went to Lily's for breakfast, which I highly recommend. It's just up the street. This place is darling. Like a little winter chalet. I like the detail to the decor in the room & they are dog friendly. Heater works well and bed comfy. Pillows too flat (took a star off for that) but staff was friendly. They had 2 luggage stands which came in handy & a little area for boots and wet gear. Would've liked one regular sized chair to put on boots but the breakfast bar in the room looks quaint although we only used it for coats. Nice lighting in the room and although I think it's sweet to provide each room a bag breakfast, they should save the money and maybe provide a discount coupon for the harvest restaurant instead. The bag contains packaged food which is not fresh but it's a nice gesture. The harvest restaurant could use a little more selection on the menu in my opinion. All in all, a sweet little inn. Since I commute to Oregon from California on regular basis, I stay in Shasta frequently. Shasta Inn is one of my two go-tos. It's gotten even better. It's clean and charming. Covid breakfast is nothing to talk about, but the office/bar is charming with a roaring fireplace to warm yourself and lots of dead animals to enjoy. The room included a long buffet on which to keep drinks and make coffee, a fridge, a microwave and a table with two chairs. Perfect for getting takeout from Yaks for a covid-safe dinner for two. The rooms are rustic and lovely. Looking forward to my next stay! read more

Stayed overnight here on our drive to Washington. This motel has definitely seen better days. The furniture, while could be considered quaint, is sparse and definitely vintage-looking! There was no desk or chair in the room, so if you have to do any work on a computer, you'd have to sit on the bed. The screen on the bathroom window had a hole the size of a golf ball, so insects were flying in if you wanted to open the window. Everything seemed a bit musty and old. We were supposed to get a free "grab and go" breakfast with our stay, but the front desk didn't open until 8:00 and we were back on the road before then. I saw a lot of others leaving before 8:00 also, so I guess the motel was able to save money by not opening earlier to feed their guests! Also, there was some loud noise outside at 7:15 that would've woken us up had we not been up already; sounded like a garbage compactor/truck crushing a LOT of garbage! My friend checked us in and she said the person at the front desk didn't tell her where the room was located or what time breakfast was served or anything... she had to ask for all the information before it was shared. Several nights here during a climbing trip to the area. Very friendly and accommodating staff. Well-sized room. Almost everything worked properly. Bathroom sink did not drain properly. Surfaces were a bit worn. Heating system noisy and a bit difficult to control room temperature. Reasonably comfortable bed with many pillows. Lovely stay, I have stopped here twice now and would give this place a solid rating. This place has a very nice rustic charm. Check in was quick and simple, the room was very clean, warm and came with a fridge, coffee maker and coffee, and microwave. The heater in the room was powerful! The beds were very comfortable and had many pillows provided. The location is close to the main street of shops and also happens to be pet friendly property. Ample parking. We needed a place to spend the night on our drive. On line this place looked good with a restaurant and bar on site. We booked a room and were sorely disappointed. The hotel was probably built in the fifties. Bare bulbs in the bathroom and entry room. An ancient heat and air unit that you couldn't leave on at night it was so loud. The room was clean and shower was good but for the price, $155, I just didn't feel it was worth it. The on site restaurant had a cool aquarium but fake flowers everywhere. I ordered a Caesar salad but was informed they were out of romaine so they substituted red lead lettuce. My wife ordered the house salad. We both added chicken which was heavily coated with a southwest seasoning. They both were basically identical but I was charged $5 more because I ordered the Caesar. I don't consider myself picky but I have become more discerning because restaurants keep charging more for less. read more

Stayed one night here and it was pleasant and cozy. By cozy I mean the room was pretty small. And the bathroom was tiny! The room was spotlessly clean, so I guess they've read some of the other reviews and improved upon that. Much appreciated! As far as amenities, the AC works great! It's really a pretty basic place otherwise - but that's not a bad thing. Really my primary complaint is the WiFi is garbage. As a computer tech I certainly missed my Gigabit internet at home! If you're going to advertise "Free Wi-Fi" it would be nice if I could at least stream a TV show in 720p HD (not even full HD) without it buffering every like 30 seconds. I understand that there probably aren't many options for high speed internet up here but I would have appreciated better WiFi. At least my phone (Verizon/Xfinity Mobile) got service here so that's cool. My Sprint-powered wireless hotspot was useless, though. Everyone who works here was super friendly and welcoming, and the complimentary breakfast waffles and yogurt were great! Overall I give it a 4/5. I'd give it a 5 if the WiFi was better and the bathroom wasn't so cramped. read more

Although we were able to get the last room (#34) available on Saturday memorial weekend, the room needs renovation. See pictures. Window sills filthy dirty. Floors had hair in corners, furniture beat up, rusty hardware, if you open the windows flying ants or termites come in. Train noise unbearable during most hours so run the air conditioning. Strawberry Inn their sister motel across the street is in way better condition but it too could use some upgrading. I must say tho that the tap water is cold and amazingly good up in Mt Shasta! read more

Was there over Thanksgiving. Although it is not an 5 stars hotel, it is clean and everything in my room was functional. TV reception can be better. Room heater was working, but the room was warm enough, I did not need to leave it on. Good Wifi and Tesla EV chargers (4 outlets). Staff are friendly and helpful-point of interests. Beautiful Silvertip Xmas tree in the lobby. I will use their service again. Recommend making reservation with them, instead of travel agents. They'll get you the best price and easy to switch dates. Clean , comfortable, and updated everything from the light fixtures to the headboard of the bed.. small room but perfect for sleeping. A mini fridge, tv mounted on th wall and microwave were all amenities. They even have an alarm clock with a built in usb plug and outlet plug. Very convenient if you do t have the extra longer phone charger. Pillows were a bit hard for my taste. The bed is also on the diem side though comfortable. Floors were clean to fit bare foot and every switch and button worked properly. A/c remained cold and the toilet did its duty! It was pretty quiet and not much noise from neighbors. I have stayed here twice (6 nights total) in the past month. This location is a great place if you are going to the Mt. Shasta ski park and is close to the downtown area where there are nice restaurants and places to shop. The Shasta Inn is also great if you are a Tesla owner as they have 4 chargers on-site. There is a restaurant conveniently located onsite (JK's Knotty Grill) which has great food, desserts and drinks. The hotel staff is friendly and accommodating. 10/10 experience. I stopped here fo a night with my boyfriend when we were driving from California to Seattle. I checked in and there was no one at the front desk but as soon as I called the number they left, someone came right away. When I asked where I should eat they highly recommended the inns restaurant. I was a little skeptical i cant lie...and the restaurant had only a couple people in it and i couldn't see any food. But when I say this was one of the best meals I've had in my life and Ive worked in fine dining, i mean it! The bartender was friendly and let us know she was a new Chef and really proving herself in the kitchen, and boy was he right! We had the brussels sprouts which were cooked to perfection, the braised pork rib which fell off the bone and don't even get me started on the chocolate cake for dessert! I'm honestly considering seeing if they will ship me one for my birthday to seattle! This inn loby restaurant was the definition of don't judge a book by its cover! Get there while you can because she wont be able to stay in a small kitchen long or this place will soon have a wait list! Lol As far as the room, it was clean and there were plenty of pillows which i personally love. You could control the heater and the room warmed up quickly. No need to take up 4 spots for Tesla chargers No need to take up a spot for the snowplow truck No need to take up a spot for a truck for sale Parking is limited. Narrow spaces. No need to discard the very loud restaurant/bar bottles at 10:03 PM into the trash can. Bang slam bang. Heater is kinda hard to control. Unable to just have it on low. Lotsa other nonsense from other guests but I don't blame that on the inn. Please upgrade the toilet to an adult size. read more

Great basecamp for a long weekend exploring Mt. Shasta and Lake Siskiyou! Reasonable prices, great management, and super clean rooms. The beds are amazing and while not luxurious - this isn't a roadside motel either. I'd equate it to a Holiday Inn Express. Plus the location can't be beat - you have the Garden Tap across the street, an amazing coffee shop 4 doors down, are steps from Lily's, and are within walking distance of the town. We stayed for 3 nights and will definitely be back. As others mention in their reviews- the office (and the whole town for that matter) closes down at 9pm. They have individual lockboxes for folks arriving later in the evening (such as we did). read more

Came in after office hours and got key to our room with no problems. Rooms clean and comfortable. The tv reception was a tad fuzzy but you get used to it after awhile. Important to note that since we came into town late (10:30pm) the whole town is closed. No food, no grocery, no delivery. We went to bed eating our snacks for our road trip. Not a big issue but be aware to either eat earlier or plan ahead and purchase some microwaveable food (as the room came with a microwave). Front desk lady, did not catch her name, wasn't very warm. She almost seemed shocked to see me for some reason. She wasn't rude or anything, just not very friendly (I said good morning to her and she did not say it back) All in all a beautiful small town hotel. I would recommend. read more

I have stayed in this location and hotel multiple times. I used to visit when it was the Woodsman Lodge with my dog which was nice. Prices went up a little after owner change, but it's in a good location and it's still fairly decent, clean and comfortable. I would not choose this location for their continental carb-filled breakfast though. It'll provide you with generic no-name glyphosate cereal and english muffins as well as a hand made waffle which is a nice touch to make up for the former items. If I had to pick a breakfast atmosphere with almost the same food it would be a more comfy, cozy and lovely atmosphere of their other location right across the street at the Strawberry Inn. Although I did not like their rooms as much as Shasta Inn, the morning was nice to have breakfast with that same food. I would opt for having breakfast in town somewhere though. These inns have breakie just a convenience - it's not a good breakfast at either. The lovely people behind the desks make up for it though. read more

I was very impressed by the place, kinda woodsy and rustic yet very clean and great staff, my one downfall was waking up with my car in the handicap space, and some MORON in a Prius parked in the "do not park" lines, 7 inches from the side of my car, I let the male know he was not supposed to park there, he stated the girl at the front desk gave him authorization, I told him, she does not have the authority to override the LAW, so i waited 35 more minutes for him to load his Prius and then say, sorry chap to me, I should've called the police, $513.00 Fine, wow the nerve of some people..., will stay there again, but the owners should inform their staff they have no rights to offer that area to a NON disabled person to park there read more

This little motel is a great get away spot. 5 stars not for the luxuriousness of the place, but for the cleanliness, friendliness of owners, and convenience to all the fun things to do in the Shasta area. My girl friend an I stayed two nights there in November and had a lovely time. Aaron and Nichole, owners, were extremely nice and accommodating, the room was clean and ready and every one we met at the inn including the maid service people were outstanding.
