We stopped here on our halfway and we enjoyed it. The staff was very polite and they have the beautiful backyard with BBQ zone. Our number was good and clear. The small coffee maker is nice. This motel is pet friendly. On the backyard we had the old fireplace. It was nice. Their parking has Tesla chargers, that is super cool. The owner Eric explained us anything about the local famous and historical places. We took a bike ride around and we satisfied a lot. Our car broke down and we found this motel in Dunsmuir near Mt Shasta. Older motel that is being updated by the on-site owner. Friday of memorial weekend he had one room left. Eric, the owner, called his mechanic, who had closed for the weekend, He opened his shop, ordered parts and worked on the car instead of going water skiing. Finally got it running right on Tuesday. Saturday Eric was full so he called around and found us the last room in town, then drove us there, picked us up the next day and took us back to his place. Eric or his maids shuttled us to town for meals and a grocery stop. Stephanie and Sam, the maids, were wonderful and took good care of us. 5 plus stars all the way. read more

I've stayed at The Dunsmuir Lodge a number of times over the years. I like staying in the older places that have a history, as long as they are being kept up. This is a nice place and they keep the prices pretty reasonable. Now that Cave Springs has been taken over and refurbished, it's become quite expensive. I'm up in the Dunsmuir - Shasta area somewhat regularly. I use to stay at Cave Springs quite a bit but as expensive as it's become, it's just not worth it...I'll continue staying at The Dunsmuir Lodge. It's a very nice older place, the rooms are comfortable and the prices are reasonable. read more

This is my 5th time here with my family in the span of 5 years in this wonderful hotel in Mount shasta. This place is owned by Erik he's a great guy and make sure everyone's experience is great. Aswell as the staff Stephaine,Samantha, and Susan who make sure the rooms are supplied and freshly cleaned everyday. So disappointing! I too was in room 6. The guests on either side of me did not seem to be on an overnight stop. It also seemed that they had woken up right as I checked in at 4pm. Consequently they were up all night long banging on the walls. I called the front desk to complain and no one answered. When I called the second time someone picked up and when I said I couldn't sleep because of the noise there was a long silence and finally the guy said he'd talk to them. Nothing changed and the noise continued so I don't believe that he said anything to them. At midnight I opened the door and asked the people talking outside my room to please be quiet. The sound of the jet engine A/C could not drown them out. I had zero sleep and got up at o-darl-thirty to get the heck out of there. But it gets worse, as I drove away I began to itch all over. I was covered in bug bites! All of this for nearly $200? Are you kidding me? Do yourself a favor and stay someplace else. I would have been better off to have slept in my car. Great find!! Super reasonably priced accommodations, incredibly clean rooms, and the friendliest service! Yes, it's a roadside motel and no, it isn't luxurious. But the rooms are thoughtfully apportioned and the beds are comfortable. The walls are thin but again-- you get what you pay for. Also, the lodge has a massive seating and picnic area where you can grill out, hang out, and watch the stars. It is within walking distance of downtown Dunsmuir but it is a hump. The crowd can be a bit rough- we had some families and bikers also staying there when we stopped by (Memorial Day weekend) who were polite. However the couple in the room next to us had a middle of the night domestic dispute and my partner and I were awoken by a loud physical and verbal altercation. There was a large group at the end of the block of rooms that also appeared to have been on an extended stay in the hotel. Overall, great place and I hope they continue to make improvements. The bed in room 6 was awful. It was hard and crunchy, crackling all night long. My wife and I didn't get one solid hour of sleep. And the heating/a/c unit was as loud as a Boeing 777 Rolls Royce Trent engine! We figured that even though we picked the "economy" room, the bed would be something better than a torture platform. We still had some driving to do and places to see the next day and all we thought about between waves of pain in our entire bodies, and sleep deprivation, we couldn't wait to get home to our own bed!! Yes, it was that bad! So, my advice is test the bed first before you commit to stay for the nite! read more

i can tell there are new owners, room was a matchbox with a king size bed, stand up and you are in the closet. Door did not have a number, just a piece of paper with "16" printed in ink and tape. The door had a 1" gap at the bottom and you could see light all around from top to bottom and did not close properly. Not worth $150 a night, I have stayed in worse but this is an embarrassment for the new owners. They tried to renovate and failed. read more

I have found my new favorite place to stay on my frequent trips between Seattle and LA. This place is perfect. Quiet, clean and such a nice departure from all the chain hotels on I-5. So relaxing- I really wanted to stay an extra night but they were sold out. The town of Dunsmuir has a lot of good dining options and a few great places to sit down by the river. I had my dog with me- he loved the hotel grounds and walking through the meadow area- all pretty exciting for a city dog. We will be back. read more

Dunsmuir Lodge is a cute little motel in the little adorable town of Dunsmuir. The motel is clearly a labor of love and the people there are very friendly and accommodating. We needed a late check in and they were happy to oblige when I called. The beds are cabiny with large quilts and very comfortable mattresses. While this isn't the most modern and up to date everything was clean and tidy. Perfect when you are passing through and want a cozy place for the night. We had breakfast the next morning at the cornerstreet cafe down the street and it was fantastic. We plan on this being our go to stop when road tripping down or up the I-5. read more

I have stayed here many times. The best Lodge in the area by far. If you are skiing or snowboarding in Shasta area it's worth driving the extra few miles to stay here. Rooms are clean and cozy. Its a large property with lots of room to walk around and enjoy nature. Eric, the owner, is a wonderful host. The lodge has a VERY laid back atmospere. Rates are affordable as well. Flowers are stunning in the spring. In the area I've noticed that you can pay a lot more for a LOT less. They are super, mega, dog friendly too! What more can you ask for?! Simply awesome. read more

Back in the 1940's when Gauchos were (short) men and women knew their place ;) (ouch, hey, lay off, didn't you see the smiley?) a couple would tie up their horses at the El Rancho Motel, sleep in beds the size of apple crates and hold square dances in the bathroom. These days, however, super-sized Nordamericanos park their Escalades at the renamed Dunsmuir Lodge, duck to get through the door and wonder why they can barely squeeze into the bathroom. Nevertheless, this is a very nice "lodge" (meaning a place to stay) so please support small local hard-working businesses and give them your credit card. Our unit #6 was very nicely re-decorated and crammed with all the necessary amenities: table, desk, 2 chairs, bureau, TV, fridge, ceiling fan-light, closet, night lamps with real shades, Mr Coffee and a log bed so big that my mate and I had to call each other on cell phones to arrange to meet in the middle when we wanted to "snuggle." I could not locate the Bible. More plusses include a steep back forty where, if your kids roll down this hill and onto a passing Amtrak train, the back seat of the Escalade will be much quieter for the rest of the trip. I like the box of rags by the Coke machine with the sign "Use these clothes to wipe down your Rottweiler or greasy Harley instead of the white towels in your room or you'll be charged." This is my midway stop every time when I'm heading up to Portland. The first time I stumbled onto this place was due to needing a place to rest and ever since I book this as my go to place when traveling north. The staff is super friendly, clean rooms, great price, dog friendly, you almost always end up throwing down a cold one with the fellow travelers that are staying at this lodge as well. At 11:30 at night, with a screaming baby in the car, we arrived at this hotel. The desk guy was super friendly and helped us in our hour of need. We checked into our room and it was clean and had all the amenities you would need, soap, towels, etc. I was pleasantly surprised how clean the room was. The only issue we had was squeaking doors! We stayed here on our way from SF to WA state and I believe this is right by Mt. Shasta. I had to praised the owner for being so nice and patient when we ring the bell at 1am. We got the last two rooms and it was clean, quiet and comfy. Yes, this is probably closer to a motel than a lodge as it doesn't have any amenaties but I appreicate the upgrades the new owner had putt in and I would defintely return if I ever return to this area. read more

Conveniently located just off I-5 and 7 miles from the town of Mt. Shasta, this is an amazing two star inn. OTI is a non-smoking facility with very nice front desk and clean rooms. The linen were well kept and clean. The hedge creek falls are at a walking distance from the inn and mossbrae falls are also less than a mile away. There is a chevron gas station that has a subway within a mile if you take a left on Dunsmuir Ave under the I-5 bridge. Last but not the least, there is Penny's diner as part of the property. This 24hr diner serves excellent meals and worth the money. Price wise this place is not cheap. Expect to pay $100 per room per night and $12per person per meal. Still, I am a fan and will definitely come back again. read more

This place is the perfect stop for us when we travel from Los Angeles to Seattle on family trips. The big oversize beds are wonderful, the rooms are tight, but always clean, and the fields are the best way to spend the morning out with the dog. On top of that, the staff goes out of their way to make sure we have everything we need. On our last trip I forgot my clogs in the room and discovered halfway home that an earring that I knew I'd put on before leaving was missing. I called Eric and the clogs had been turned in, but no earring. I asked him to please look around in the parking lot outside of our room, not really expecting any outcome. Imagine my delight when the package arrived with the clogs and the missing earring!!! I love this Lodge and the staff. Kudos. read more

This is a motel! Tiny rooms, TINY bathrooms, with no where to set your things anywhere in the bathroom. The property has no paths to the river (kids were bummed about this), you actually have to drive down to the river front park. For what you get we felt it was not worth the price. We were looking for somewhere to stay last minute, from Shasta to Dunsmuir and this was the only place that had some vacancies and also accepted dogs. The staff were really nice and knowledge about the local attractions, including dog friendly trails. We stayed in the king room, where the bed took almost nearly the entire room. Kind of a tight fit for two adults and two small dogs, but it had a very cute lodge feel. Changes I would recommend: microwave in individual rooms rather than in the office. read more

Expected something way better than this. I saw the pictures online and looked very cute and nice for the one night stay. I walk in, it is super beat up. The walls, curtains, appliances. Everything. They have older T.Vs from 2004 which is fine with me but just so you know and there was ants all over the bottom of the bathroom shower. LIVE ANTS! There is no soap and the bathrooms are tiny tiny. Also, the bed is as hard as a rock. The pictures online are lying. read more

In October of 2018, I happened to be passing through Dunsmuir again, and I called this place for a reservation. I left my name and number. I called twice. No body ever called me back. So I went online and tried to make a reservation, but their system would not take my information. So I emailed this place, and no body ever got back to me. I was doubtful that they were still in business, so I reserved a room someplace else. Imagine my surprise when, upon arriving in Dunsmuir, I drove by the lodge and saw that it was open.
