One travel must have when I travel abroad is to be near the City Center. Why is this important? When your stay is limited, say 6-10 days, you need to MOVE and quickly. When searching for hotels in Copenhagen, staying in City Center and near a Metro is crucial. I researched Wake Up carefully and had to weigh the pros and cons. Overall, it was a great stay and it offered my two must haves. However, there is definitely room for improvement. Here's a summary: Pros: 1. Conveniently located near Copenhagen Airport: 30 minutes from airport by Metro( yellow line, eight stops), the stop is Kongens Nyrtov. If by Uber, 15 minutes @$30 2. In City Center, thus, you are in walking distance of numerous landmarks: Nyhavn, Radhuspladsen, Tivoli Gardens, to name a few 3. Check in is a breeze, you can do so by QR code or friendly staff 4. Numerous options of dining nearby from takeout to fine dining 5. The neighborhood, Kongens Nyrtov, very safe which is important when you are traveling. The area is bustling all day, there are always people coming and going 6. There are 2 Metro stations, Kongens Nyrtov and Marmorkirken, @7 minute walk from hotel. Both stations, immaculate, busy and elevator access Cons: 1. Room: this is dorm living; small room, small bathroom, no closets, small desk, uncomfortable chairs. However, bed is extremely comfortable and I used the big bed drawer that stored comforter as my clothes "closet". The shower temperature takes a while to get to the right heat 2. No frills: no fridge, no coffee, no toiletries noise level is okay 3. Cleanliness: in certain countries, you need to ensure your room is cleaned due to water conservation, thus here you need to email the days you want room cleaned,otherwise... 4. Value: tough one because location is key but hotel is overpriced. I have stayed in better hotels that charged less than this. My thought process for a short stay: as long as room is clean because I'm only using it to sleep and shower, I'm good. However, when I arrived at 9am, 6 hours before check in, they had rooms available but I paid a little more for an "upgrade" and to check in early. 5. Miscellaneous: services are limited such as if you need to convert money they do not offer it. Would I stay again..if this was the only hotel available then yes. You very much get what you pay for with Wakeup Copenhagen. We arrived early and the room wasn't ready, so paid to rent a locker which was fine. The room itself is exactly what you see in the picture and not a centimeter larger. We made the mistake of asking why it came with one pillow and one towel when we had two guests staying, as we were made to feel silly that we didn't know that each guest would receive an extra of each and that his would be located in the drawer below the bed (which we honestly didn't realize even existed). The hotel is a budget option. The room is super bare minimum, especially with toiletries. The best offering it has is Wifi, which is weirdly strong for the hotel. read more

Way overpriced for what it delivers. Very small room. Very few amenities. View of office windows next door so you have to keep the curtains on your one window closed all the time. 6/27/24- very nice employees. We have two rooms adjoining. The rooms are the size of a cruise ship standard room to use as reference. A bed pushed up against a wall, 2 chairs and a small table. No frig or coffee maker. A restroom. Copenhagen is expensive for food and drinks around the area. Go to a grocery store, called Netto and it's only 89 yards from the hotel to buy liquids and snacks. If not, the 7-eleven or other stores the waters are about $3 to $5 US dollars. More to come. 3 stars for now and will post photos later. Breakfast Buffett they limit you to 45 minutes. There is no reason to be there more than 45 minutes. They don't check how long you stay as well. Very light food and nothing hearty. I made a sandwich with the croissants. The oranges were very good. More to come. This hotel is located perfectly to walk around the entire area. Feel free to get lost and have fun. Carry water on you as well. The front desk employees are very friendly and helpful. I would recommend staying here again. The water pressure isn't that strong but for the location and price this place works. 5 stars overall. I was here for several days. Great city. We were looking for a place close to everything we wanted to see, that also wouldn't break the bank, and looked clean and comfy. This Wake Up Copenhagen fit the bill perfectly. It's in a central location with bars, restaurants, and just down the street from several major attractions. There is a large entrance lobby with lots of nice places to sit and chat. The individuals at reception were relatively helpful but we still struggled to get info from them about the best places to park. Checkin and checkout were both easy and automated and your stay includes wifi. Our room was small but comfortable with bright green colors and a neat little shower. The bed and pillows were really comfy and we found that we had everything we're needed and slept great. The checkout time was 11 am, which was perfect because we're slept like babies and then spent the day checking out all the great sights in the area. The only issue we found here, was that parking is not included and there isn't much of it. We had to drive back and forth out front for about 40 minutes until we found a place to park. We then had to go pay at the parking meter down the street before checking in and heading out to dinner. Aside from that, not a bad place. read more

Wakeup is exactly what you NEED and nothing more. That's a compliment. Hotel lobby is attractive and comfortable. Staff is friendly and helpful if you're in need of information. The hotel hallways can be a confusing maize on your first visit. Room 5016 took a while to find. The standard rooms are very small, but plenty enough room for 2. Comfortable bed with minimal noise from other rooms. Negative: Extra care to clean would be appreciated. There is beverage splatter on the wall from previous guests. Impossible to prevent water from leaving the shower despite best efforts. Basically no privacy when you need a little "extra time" in the bathroom. Positive: Location. Value. read more

Pros: Great location for tourists to reach all the points of interest in the city easily, very affordable, and there is an elevator. Cons: Rooms are very bare bones; capsule shower and no mini-fridge or safe. Not very clean.. spotty carpet and saw some urine in the stairwell one night. Good for short stays or younger people who are not planning to hang around in the room much. This means the lounge was full almost all the time; I would only recommend staying down there to get some work done as I noticed many guests laying on the couch barefoot but the wifi in the rooms is terrible. Guests can be loud in the hallway as well as the street below if the window is open so I advise you bring earplugs. I didn't try the breakfast but there are plenty of great places to eat within walking distance. There is no ice machine and the staff will not provide any ice. This hotel was recommended to me by a friend. I booked one night in a "Wakeup Standard Single" room through hotels.com. The lobby is....ENORMOUS with plenty of seating available. Just outside the hotel is a rack of bikes, which could be rented with a fee. There is a separate room with more seats available and TVs. There is a convenience store located almost across the street on the corner. i would definitely suggest getting snacks and drinks from here, if you don't want to order from the hotel. Unfortunately, my flight arrived early in the morning so I could not check into the hotel. Luckily I was able to pay a small fee to have my luggage stored in a locker on the first level of the hotel. Also, since most of the neighboring restaurants/coffee shops didn't open until 8...8:30 AM, I chose to have breakfast at the hotel. I wasn't terribly impressed with the breakfast options, but there was quite a spread available. The room itself is small. The bed is smaller than a twin-size mattress; the shower is "fancy"-looking, but very limited in space. However, this is sufficient for one night. I would stay at the hotel again, as long as I arrive in the afternoon. read more

You know the saying, you pay what you get for? Well it definitely applies here. WakeUp Borgergade is pretty much a no frills, budget, minimal amenities hotel. I paid about $80USD/night here, which is cheap compared to many hotels nearby. Well, if RyanAir had a hotel, this would be it. I stayed at the WakeUp Borgergade for four nights during my recent trip to Copenhagen. Location wise, the hotel is perfect. It's conveniently located in Kongens Nytorv, making it a short 20 min metro ride from the airport. It's also nearby the Strøget, Nyhavn, Rosenborg Castle. As stated before, the hotel doesn't have many in-room amenities. For a single traveler, the hotel provided me with one foot towel, one bath towel, one bar of soap and one packet of shampoo. There was no pen, paper, safe, telephone, or clock in the room (which are pretty standard to most hotels!). Despite not offering these typical in-room amenities and being skimpy with towels and soap, my hotel room was very clean. The hotel does offer free wifi, as well as a computer/business center for those who require a real computer to browse the Internet, etc. WakeUp also has storage lockers (for a small fee) in the lower level of the hotel-- but note, the space is limited and can get filled fast. I was able to secure a locker by 10am, but at that time most of the other luggage lockers were filled/occupied. My advice--if you need a luggage locker, get one earlier than later! WakeUp Borgergade offered a convenient location, a clean room at a cheap price, but with skimpy in-room amenities. The WakeUp is definitely not the Four Seasons or the Ritz... But it served the job since all I really required for my trip was a clean room/bed. I kind of wished the hotel didn't skimp on the soap/shampoo/towels from the get go. read more

Stayed here one night between a cruise departure and our flight home. Reasonable rate and central location. Clean room and common areas. The common areas are crowded with long lines of people checking in and out. We checked in early and our room was not available, we upgraded to an available room for $23USD more. Did not want to store luggage and walk around sweaty - thus paid 150DKK or $23USD more to freshen up and bag down! Limited storage in basement lockers and you're paying 20DKK per locker or 20DKK per piece behind the desk if the lockers are full. Big lockers fit two bags while smaller lockers will fit one roll-on bag. Our room was small but comfortable. Circular glass shower which does not leave you any room for dropping a bar of soap. 4 hangers on a rod in the open room. We did not have any closet space but did not need for our one night. Can't imagine how you would do without a closet on an extended stay. No air conditioning and it was warm when we stayed in early June. Lots of smokers. WHB is within walking distance of Christianborg Slot, Stroeget, Nyhavn, etc... Numerous restaurants and cafes within the area. Also a 7/11 nearby. For the airport, the hotel can call you a cab with a fixed 300DKK rate or go by the meter. We went by the meter with no traffic and it was around 235DKK with tip, although we kept looking at Google Maps to ensure we were heading directly to the airport. Or at least we made our cabbie think that, LOL. read more

Fantastic location, right round the corner from the metro which connects you direct to the airport. I came across the wake up hotel an thought it had the same idea as the Citizen M chain however I was badly wrong! The decor is modern and cool looking and the reception area is spacious and bright! The restaurant/bar area was dead the whole stay - not a good sign when the whole hotel was fully booked!! Rooms are small but that's the concept however when you book a double room you expect the bed and the room to be made up for 2 people. 2 separate duvet covers - one of the duvets was stored away under the bed so not even made up!! One shower get sachet in the bathroom and only one rinsing paper cup. I know it's a budget hotel and it's a cheap place to stay in Copenhagen however the noise levels are really bad. I am not sure why this hotel has an average rating. I thoroughly enjoyed staying here and would strongly recommend it. I think one's expectations need to be pretty reasonable when staying in a hotel in Europe. The first one is that the rooms are going to be small. In most European countries. None of the extravagant space one gets in US hotels. Space comes at a premium and each square meter is effectively utilized. Secondly, a hotel room for most people on vacation is primarily utilized for the bed and the shower. Rarely does one, or should one, spend endless hours in a hotel room. Third, location is key. Wakeup Copenhagen fulfilled all the needs I wanted in a hotel. The bed, though small, was comfortable. Would definitely fit 2 average sized people easily. The room was small but the space was well utilized. There was daily room service, clean towels and adequate ventilation. While the bathroom accessories could be better (shampoo et al), I traveled with mine so it didn't matter as much for me. I didn't hear my neighbors and the only noise I heard was from the street when our window was open. The staff was friendly and check out was ultra easy. Don't forget free wifi. The best thing about this hotel was the location. It was so easy to walk everywhere and two metro stations were an easy walk away. I didn't eat breakfast here so I can't comment but I would absolutely stay here again if I got the opportunity to visit the beautiful city of Copenhagen in the future! read more

I was a little hesitant to book this hotel based on the reviews, but it was perfect for what I was looking for! In short: this is the PERFECT hotel for someone that is traveling solo and wants something inexpensive without a lot of extras, but has outgrown the hostel environment. The first plus about this hotel is the location. It is SO convenient to everything you would want to do as far as sightseeing. The staff was very nice and accommodating when I checked in. The room was very clean but immediately it was obvious how SMALL it was. I had room to place my suitcase on the suitcase caddy, but it would be very difficult to fit a second person's suitcase in here unless you put it on the small table that pulls out from the wall. You definitely would not be able to fit more than one person in the bathroom at one time (unless someone was in the shower). I felt like it was a good size for one, but I probably wouldn't go back with a travel companion. It's just a bit too small (even smaller than a cruise ship cabin). Location gets 4 stars. The rooms get 2 stars. I just hate these rooms. Small is one issue- they are literally the smallest hotel rooms over stayed in outside of Asia. The shower is laughably small. Like, you can barely wash your hair without hitting your arms on the sides of the shower. They are stingy with pillows and towels. The comforter isn't even the size of the bed. There are no sheets- just a comforter. There is nowhere in the room to unpack your clothes so you have to live out of your suitcase. In summer, the curtains don't block out the sun (which is up beginning at 4:40am and doesn't set until 10pm). There are no blackout curtains like in other hotels in Copenhagen. I really dislike this hotel and only stay here because my client books it. read more

We went to stay for two nights. In the beginning everything was really nice. However, we noticed a faeces stain on the duvet in our room which you can see from the picture. We told reception who brought a fresh duvet to our room but instead of apologising she got confrontational whilst insinuating we had made the stain. Would definitely not stay here again. read more

Summary: Clean great 3 star hotel, priced correctly. Not the greatest location. Better for smokers. I was staying at Tivoli and wanted to better understand the ratings on this place. It was right next door, was fairly new and was in the same Anders hotel family as Tivoli. Here's the scoup. Location: As much as I hate the location of Tivoli this one is worse. Slightly farther from the S-tog and more or less the same distance but with an odd little randon walk from Central station. It's also half the price, which for some means they will feel 1/2 as bad taking that walk. If you're stranded in CPH and need an affordable acceptable place to stay, check this out. It's not bad for joggers. You can run along the sidewalk pretty easily and run over the bridges into Christiania to check it out. It's easy to do a 5k or 10k look via length of bridge. Rooms: Small. Modern, but small. The upgraded "larger" room is 15m^2 or about 225 feet (12x12, but with bed and bath areas). That's great if you're use to a dorm room, but for an American, that's tough. High floor views can be nice, as they are fairly unobstructed. Lobby: Clean and modern, except with a HEAVY cigarette smell. Overwhelmingly so. I felt like I was in an ashtray. A clean ashtray, but an ashtray. Amenities: They do have internet, business center, etc. If you've got something at Tivoli and don't want to pay up for a pool and fitness room, this place shares bicycle rental and is really close by. It's new, I think 6mo when I went to check It out May of 2014, so if you're reading within 2 years of that and need a cheap please to stay, you're likely fine. read more

So the good points first. It's cheap for Copenhagen, it's clean and in a decent location for the metro. Now the rest. The rooms are tiny, the pillows are tiny and uncomfortable, the shower is tiny. They give you two single duvets instead of a double to share. The smoke alarm flashes above your bed ALL night long. The walls are very thin and therefore it is really noisy. They are very stingy with the free sachets of soap and shampoo. Need more? The bed is like a brick and the view is of containers and graffiti. This is a place that charges you extra for everything and then gives you a cheap version of it. Those looking for a citizen M type experience should look else where. This is a cheaper imposter version. Three of the worst nights sleeps I have ever had. Maybe it's called "Wake Up" as their aim is to wake you up all night long.. read more

This place definitely did the trick. I was in Copenhagen on business and ended up here in lieu of another establishment due to some booking issues. I have absolutely no complaints though, this was my first time in Denmark and I was now placed very close to the city. I more or less used this room as a base while I ran around town exploring different bars, restaurants and other various attractions. So I really only spent time here to sleep from time to time. However, the room was very quiet, clean, and despite the small size of the room had all the things I needed. The room consisted of what was somewhat close to a 'full' sized bed, a stand up shower contained in a traditional bathroom, a place to hang up some clothes, and a small desk that laptop work could be done on. This taken with it's excellent location add up to a great place to stay. If I end up returning to Copenhagen I'll definitely consider staying here again. read more

I am totally on the fence about this place. I think this concept is great for a single traveler - but we were three. We sprung for a "large" room - it was okay but there isn't a comfortable chair to sit in and there isn't any storage space save for a rod with four hangers. The bathroom is ship like - tiny but functional. The pillows suck. The extra bed was a flip out chair - the teenager thought it was the worst thing ever - uncomfortable! And yet - it's cheap and centrally located. Skip the 90DKK breakfast buffet - it's not good and there are coffee shops nearby, including a Meyers Bageri about two blocks away. NO PLACE TO STORE YOUR BAGGAGE after check out!!! RECEPCIONISTS RUDELY TELL GUESTS YOU TO CARRY THEIR LUGGAGE AROUND THE CITY!!! Hotel only have a few lockers in the lobby to store your baggage (and you have to pay for), but if these paid lockers are already full, you will have NO PLACE to store your baggage! Upon checking out, I needed to storage my luggage in the hotel to walk around the city, as my plane was leaving at night. Recepcionist rudely told me her solution to "my problem" (my problem??!!!) was to put my bags at the Copenhagen's Central Train Station, far away from the hotel!!! She basically said it was my problem and never appologized. I paid $170 dollars per night to have NO LUGGAGE ROOM after checking out. Other bad points: -very thin walls - you can hear everything from next rooms and street noise -flashing light from smoke alarm flashing ALL night on top of your head/bed -very bright rooms, hard to sleep after 8AM with street light. Stayed here recently on a work trip and have no complaints. Going in you have to know what to expect- the hotel is clean, modern and no frills. You pay for any and every extra. The front desk staff were efficient and friendly. Leaving a suitcase requires depositing kroner in a locker in the basement, but the frontdesk staff helped me exchange dollars for this. My room was TINY (and I'm used to small living in Manhattan) but well designed- there was a desk, bed, side table, tv... everything in it's place. I missed an armoire to hang clothes but there was a few hooks on the wall for a few items. The bathroom similarly is well designed and functional but small, and the cube to shower in felt... odd. Perhaps because I was out of my room all day and just myself, it felt perfectly fine to come home to in the evenings. With two people, or trying to get some r&r daytime, it's not that sort of place. The location is also really good- good restaurants close by, walking distance to Nyhavn, the Mermaid etc. The Thai place across the street made me a nice dinner one evening, and I had a very good meal at Cantina down the street. When i visited in 2015, the room was around $80 USD/night. The &12 USD breakfast didn't have plentiful options, but the quality of the food was high (especially if you're an American used to the food at our budget hotels). For a two star hotel it was absolutely great. The rooms are small, but very clean and functional. The location couldn't have been better - it's right in the city center, in the middle of everything. The breakfast was surprisingly good - everything you might want to have for breakfast was there - fresh breads, cheese, meat, yogurt, cereal, very good coffee and cheeses. The hotel is modern and very charming. They do charge for storing your luggage, but it's cheap. The service was a bit slow with a tiny mixup that was eventually resolved, that was the only downside for us. read more
