Uttke did show me a good replacement for my furnace when the time came--a mid-range Armstrong furnace. I appreciated their integrity. I went out of my way to purchase AprilAire filters from Uttke because I appreciated how I was treated. Fast forward a couple years and I had moved to Cedarburg and needed two heat pumps. Two techs spent most of the morning tearing into the boiler, cleaning and testing, and reassembling it and testing further. They worked methodically and meticulously. They completely contained and vacuumed any mess as they brushed out the burners and the heat exchanger. They were cordial, they answered all my questions, and they never stopped working until the job was done. Ours is a fairly 'messy' system, with four zones, five pumps, a heat exchanger that's bigger than the hot water heater, and a few other curiosities. The techs seemed to be familiar with all elements of the system. We've been in this home a relatively short time. I called Perfection's number off the website and Jeremy answered right away. He said he could stop by in about 20 minutes and he arrived promptly. He was very nice and professional. He found the issue, the flame sensor and explained to me that it had build up on it and he could fix it with no problem. We had heat! He also cleaned the furnace and gave it a thorough inspection. I asked him a few questions I had about the furnace and he told me everything I needed to know regarding the age of it and what overall condition it was in. No repairs were performed and I was ultimately told that the AC was operating normally, without a solution to the temperature difference I had called about. I understand paying for diagnostic time, but $300 for this visit felt very expensive, and I wish the additional charges had been clearer when I scheduled. Update: I appreciate the business owner commenting on their charge process. The technician specifically noted charging me for 45 minutes, and I have an email time stamped 45 minutes after he started work. Also, none of the paperwork notes that the initial charge includes 30 minutes of time, which further emphasizes my point about transparency. Update: Update: I previously listed the wrong dollar amounts, so I am correcting them after reviewing my invoice. I was charged $149 for the diagnostic visit plus $130 for an additional 45 minutes of labor, for a total of $292.95 with tax. After the business stated that the technician spent approximately 75 minutes diagnosing my AC, I requested their timestamped records. Their records show that at 12:38 PM I signed their Customer Acknowledgement stating that "all work has been completed," and my invoice was emailed at 12:40 PM. However, they are counting time through 12:51 PM toward the 75-minute visit based on their tracking system. I disputed the additional labor charge and requested a refund. The company refused and offered only a credit toward future service, which I declined. My concern is not that diagnostic work costs money. My concern is being charged for diagnostic labor that I do not believe is supported by the company's own records.
