Might be a great guy and easy to work with ... but I agree with the reviewer below that says not to trust him. We bought our house only 9 months ago (Jim did the inspections) and now, due to our job, we're moving again. We just had a potential buyer come through to look at the house and their inspector found extensive dry rot in our basement - including important support structures. How did OUR inspector FAIL to give us that information? That's not a small issue. It's not a difference in inspectors either because I had a private contractor come out afterwards to give a second opinion. He saw the same thing. On top of that, he MENTIONED knob and tube wiring but he did not go into detail about HOW MUCH active knob and tube was in the house! Again, we found out just how much by a potential buyer's inspector. And I had it verified by an electrician. Anyway, because of what the buyer's found (that Jim neglected to tell us) they backed out of the sale! We were first time home buyers. We trusted Jim to help us find issues to consider when buying this propery! These are expensive fixes! I think it's not too far fetched to belive that he only has his welfare in mind when doing his work. So, if you're considering hiring him - be careful. read more

Great guy, pleasant to work, thorough and knowledgeable inspector. Jim pointed out a lot of things for me to keep an eye on and ways to fix them during our inspection. Would recommend him to anyone I know, this is my second time requesting him as an inspector. read more

Had our home Inspection with him in September. He was thoughfull and very knowledgeable. Gave us great advice. We've been in the home since October and no problems have arised and we are so grateful that he was so thorough and we knew exactly what we were getting. read more

Hiring Jim Dye as a home inspector is a risk to you and your family. Jim Dye pushes sales through for real estate agents and couldn't care less about the people moving into the house. He "missed" multiple things in the house we moved into, which ended up resulting in the death of one of our cats, our son ingesting lead in the water for almost two years, a roof that was obviously put on completely incorrectly and extremely poor quality (and he said it was great quality! And looked wonderful! Ha!!!) that resulted in black mold growth and leaks. The roof is metal and four years old. The deck being installed incorrectly which again was obvious to anyone who has looked at it. These are the major things he "missed" or said were fine and is not including the 17 other items including electrical, plumbing and carpentry issues that would be easily visible to any good home inspector that cares. Unfortunately for us, we hired him and trusted him to protect our family by doing our home inspection. We hadn't owned a house before this and have learned a lot, unfortunately as a result of thousands of dollars, the loss of a pet and cost for medical expenses for our son (luckily he is fine but he very easily could not have been!) I called Jim up, he showed absolutely zero empathy, was incredibly rude and did not care at all about what he had done to us. Do NOT use Jim Dye as a home inspector!! read more

While competent, I found the service I received incomplete. There were points of the inspection that couldn't be completed at the time due to snow cover. While it is understandable that the initial report would have some missing info due to this obstruction, I have found the follow up to be sub-par. I offered to pay travel expenses if they would come back out to complete the inspection (which I had already paid for), however they declined, stating that this was something I could complete with my realtor. Additionally, I found the report incomplete in that it mentioned a potential recall, but failed to provide further information (photos, model #, or serial #) that would verify whether or not further action is required (this was information my realtor ended up providing). read more
