Sterling Family Medicine is Dr Abusharr. He's had some staff turnover thru the years and has had to deal with troublesome labs etc., but in my experience this is our healthcare system norm these days. If you want personalized care by a real, old school, family physician, Dr Abusharr is the best there is. I been a patient of Dr Abusharr for over a decade. My insurance has advised me to turn this office over to the Fraud Department; as I have been trying to get my overpayment back from them for 5 months. I just called again with another promise that my check will be mailed today. I hope I never get sick out of my home Sate again. Dr. Abusharr is amazing but his office staff is terrible. Unfortunately in order to see Dr. Abusharr you must go thorough his office staff. They don't return calls or emails for appointment requests. They don't send requests for further testing or answer requests to send records to specialists. You have to go in and speak to receptionist and, when you do, she is rude. The doctor has changed over the years and his PAs do everything . they over medicated me and I went to another doc out of town and he said most of the medications they put me on made me I'll. I was also misdiagnosed . beware of the PAs. read more

I have been using Dr Abushar for a while, and he is a great doctor; however, his schedule is almost always full. Most of the time I will just make my appts with the NP Tracey. I am so glad that I found Dr. Abusharr. I struggle with anxiety and he is the only Doctor I've found that takes time to listen to me and takes me seriously. Other physicians I've seen in the past have made me feel like I am wasting their time by coming in and that I just need to get over my worries. Wait time isn't bad. Been to many doctors though the years and I have to say Dr. Abushar has been the best doctor I have had the pleasure of seeing. He takes the time to talk and listen. I've never had a wait longer than 15 minutes. Dr. Abusharr as a doctor is amazing, but his staff is not doing any justice for him. (Have been visiting this office for four years). Since they extended their operation hours he's almost becoming a faceless person. The only available appointments are always with the nurse practitioner and if you ask for the Doctor, he's either out of the office or nothing is available within the next two weeks. If there is an emergency it feels like the staff only focus on the calendar and if there are no spaces available there is nothing they can do for you. In my opinion, if I always have to pay a deductible for any visit as well as my health insurance pays for the service my PCP provides me, that's what you should have; not a doctors replacement (aka, nurse practitioner). In terms of referrals, in my experience, I have had a lot of issues. For example, the referrals are never on time and when they send them to a specialist, there is always missing information. Finally, not a long time ago, I made a phone call to the office explaining an emergency situation I was having and the lady that the phone call was transferred to made the attribution to say that the situation I was having was not an emergency after I spent two days at the ER. read more

If you are healthy, you get penalized. by Francisco I. In 2015 I visited Family Medicine At Sterling Ridge (FMSR). Since Dr. Abusharr was not available, the staff invited me to meet with another physician. They explained that it doesn't matter who you see, and that you are a patient of FMSR and you can return to see any doctor, even if it is not the doctor you usually see. I accepted the offer and received satisfactory treatment. This past weekend I thought I might be coming down with the flu. I called to make an appointment at my family doctor office (FMSR). To my surprise, there was no other doctors to see but Dr. Abusharr, and the receptionist responded, "Since you have never seen Dr. Abusharr, you are technically a new patient, so I'll have to check in with him first and ask if he is taking new patients. I'll call you back and let you know." So, I waited. Later today, the receptionist called me to let me know that Dr. Abusharr was not accepting new patients, because she explained, "I had never seen Dr. Abusharr AND I had not visited FMSR recently." I told the receptionist that this news made me sad because I thought I was a patient of FMSR, but apparently I am no longer a client in good standing because I have not been sufficiently ill in the last few years to need their services. This left me with no option to see a doctor when I needed health care. What disappoints me most about not being able to make an appointment today with FMSR is the feeling that I was penalized for being healthy. What I don't understand is why lack of regular visits to FMSR is criteria for making future appointments. If the aim is to promote preventative medicine, then Dr. Abusharr should be upfront and communicate, perhaps on the forms that one completes at in-take, that regular wellness visits are required to remain his patients. Otherwise, it makes me feel like Dr. Abusharr's motivation with this "no regular visits, no service" policy is to establish a steady stream of patient visits from a pool of less-well patients, which translates into reliable, consistent cash flow for the business. Just be up front about it and do not claim on your website, "We Welcome New Patients of All Ages," and do not claim that you "are unwilling to lose our ability to maintain the culture of an "old fashioned family doctor's office," when, in practice, you are willing to do so and did. I came in on a Friday afternoon appointment (it was their only opening when I called Thursday AM). They clearly were ready to leave as soon as I got there. I don't blame them with it being Friday but don't take an appointment if you are just going to rush someone out of there. It was my second time in a month to have fever/sore throat/aches and Dr Tracy was thorough in her discussion on what it could be but wasn't really keen on testing for anything other than strep (again, probably due to it being a Friday afternoon). She mentioned the possibility of Flu but never ruled out why she didn't want to test for it when the strep was negative? Anyways, 2 weeks later I get another sore throat (although no fever or aches so not as serious) after a round of antibiotics and steroids. I sent in a message through the health portal online on Sunday and then called the nurse early Monday morning. No response. No call back. I call again Tuesday afternoon and send the message again online and again, no response and no call back. It's Wednesday afternoon and I have yet to receive a response 50 hours after my first attempt at communication with them. While I was pleased with the doctor and nurse while I was there I will not be returning to this practice due to the awful lack of communication from them during the week. Unfortunately I did not have the opportunity to meet with Dr Abusharr as he was not taking new patients when I originally went to this practice. HORRIBLE EXPERIENCE. My first and second appts were with a nurse practioner and she was awesome. I finally met Dr. Abusharr and my first impression was not the best because he was on the phone while in the room with me. The next was better but his staff? OMG...HORRIBLE. On a call to the office, one girl told me Dr. Abusharr was busy and she didn't have time for me. Her words exactly, "Dr. Abusharr is in clinics and I'm too busy so we will have to get back with you." Only I'd called two days prior with no return phone call (so I'm already upset). No surprise because they never call back. Now I've had several run-ins with his staff and they are very rude and don't do him any justice because he's actually pretty nice. Good luck getting to him without an appointment. The facility was immaculate and being a first time patient, had a great office visit. After this is where everything went downhill and I haven't had the best experience with the front office staff. I was told on multiple occassions that I wouldn't be able to get an itemized receipt from my doctor visit, because the staff was waiting on the doctor to finalize everything, for over a month! Finally, after having many follow-up phone calls, a receipt was sent to me. Unfortunately, after this, I needed another form for insurance purposes and was told twice that particular form was not something they could do, but they would be in contact with my insurance company to see what other options were available. After waiting for almost two weeks I decided to follow up again and was finally able to get that form today. This was ONLY after Stacey, who handles the billing department, answered the phone this morning. She was very pleasant and addressed my concerns promptly, as I was shocked to hear that COULD actually fill out this particular form. Seems to me, that the front office girls couldn't figure something out for themselves, they just gave up and didn't try to learn what could be done to help me, as the paying customer. Hopefully they will receive better customer training and this doesn't happen to anyone else. read more
