This review is written by someone who dreads going to see the dentist even when in pain! However, I was pleasantly surprised when entering the office. This office is a joke, and I am certain they still are in the business only because of the general dentists referrals (most likely kickbacks) . Dr. Skidmore us amazing. He is humble, kind, patient, an amazing endodontist & you can tell he cares about his patients not just the money you can make from dentistry. I highly recommend Acacia Endodontics (it is the 1st place I ever went to get a root canal over 15 years ago). But Dr. Skidmore went above & beyond to get me in before the holidays. He was patient with me and explained everything (options to me). I also had another dental emergency today - not for him, but because of him & the dentist that referred me Dr. Scott Gunnell in Casa Grande, AZ. I have complete faith. I had a re-treatment of a root canal done here, and after it was over, he tells me there is decay under the old crown, so I will need to have my crown removed and redone. I go to my dentist to do this, and there was so much decay, that they couldn't put another crown on. My dentist was not sure why they didn't stop when he felt the decay to make sure I would have enough tooth to hold a new crown. The root canal took up all my insurance benefits for the year, I paid money out of pocket to them, AND I now have to pay an oral surgeon to get the tooth removed, so the root canal was pointless and unnecessary ! As a single Mom that doesn't have extra money like that, I am very disappointed and sad that this is the endo I chose. I used to use a different doc, but because he was out of network, I ended up switching. What a mistake! read more

My husband was referred there from his primary dentist. This office claimed that the x-rays that they had did not provide enough detail so they so they proceeded to do a cone beam. CT. Once the claim was submitted to my insurance, my insurance denied payment of the cone beam CT due to not enough information provided. I contacted this office multiple times to get a narrative description sent to my insurance. The narrative that was finally sent to my insurance. After almost 3 months of constant calling, the narrative was very vague and stated absolutely literally nothing of why this scan was done. my recommendation is to think twice before you use this office they will charge you for procedures that may not be covered under your insurance due to vague information that is sent to them. read more

I, of course, hope you don't need an endodontist, but if you do, I highly recommend Acacia Endodontics in Chandler. Dr. Cullimore is the best!! He is very thorough, gentle, caring and kind. Dr. Cullimore took the time to completely explain the issue with my tooth and show me on the xrays. He clearly explained my options and was very patient with me and my questions. He made sure I understood my options and did not pressure me to quickly make a decision. I never felt he was in a hurry to move on to the next patient. To resolve the issue with my tooth, it took multiple appointments. He was just as wonderful at each and every appointment. I experienced almost no pain throughout my treatment. I had a very positive experience, and i did not end up requiring a procedure. Dr. Lance Skidmore evaluated my situation, and recommended giving time to evaluate results, and gave me an objective and honest evaluation where we were both able to discuss pros and cons of the intervention, and ultimately delaying the procedure was the best course of action...and the pain went away as well. From my experience, Dr. Skidmore was very thorough, caring, sensitive to patient cost expenses, and overall was an advocate for mutual patient/dr treatment options. Acacia will be my go to location for future endodontic needs, and i fully recommend them to others. read more

Dr. Lance P. Schneder was OK, but didn't have much of a bedside manner. I came here after a failed root canal by my dentist at the time. The doctor did an OK job, but he was very rough with my mouth and lips. He didn't use an assistant very often during the procedure - maybe it wasn't necessary? - and would put his tools on my chest as he worked. (Yeah I know, weird, but I was too busy worry about losing my lips to his rough movements.) His office sent a box of Fairytale Brownies about a week later. That was a nice touch, but didn't make up for the rough handling. read more

First of all I'd like to say that I am traumatized from a really bad experience I had with root canals in Mexico ‍. I was young so it was really my parent's call lol. I am traumatized to the point where I almost have an anxiety attack/nervous breakdown when I'm in the seat at a dentist office. When I went to acacia I was supposed to be induced through my veins (like put to sleep). The doctor was unable to find my veins and convinced me to use laughing gas, ensured me I'd feel no pain and made me feel extremely comfortable. I was even allowed to listen to music on my headphones. He did the procedure manually! Without the power drill that causes me to cringe. It was the best experience of my life! The dentist made me believe in dentist once again! I would go to this guy and pay whatever amount they wanted me to just to have a painless worry free experience again! I had a root canal done here and my experience was amazing. The receptionists are so nice, and the doctor who performed my procedure was even better. Overall experience: 1 star for Acacia Endodontics TL;DR: Please look for a different endodontist. The work Acacia staff provided was barely average at best, the office staff was extremely confusing, misleading, and awkward, and Dr. Cullimore and his assistants avoided answering questions about endodontistry by gaslighting their patients. Firstly, Dr. Cullimore doesn't work well with unexpected delays. For example, the power went out during the retreatment of a root canal. He was visibly distracted, spending more time looking into the hall than my mouth for the rest of the procedure, and was scraping so hard at my roots that it caused my whole jaw to swell for two days. I later had to come back to fix my bite because the filling was very quickly and poorly installed. He started the appointment off by pushing back any question I had about my bite being incorrect. I had to explain that I was looking for him to fix the malocclusion, which he finally did. A month after the procedure, I started getting the exact same symptoms I had before the root canal. I came in to get clarification about the physiology of my mouth, figure out why I am still experiencing the same symptoms, and get a better understanding of the sort of criteria I should be using to monitor my tooth since it has had a history of reinfection. He and his assistant viewed this as an attack because instead of answering my questions, they started gaslighting me by refusing to believe me, repeating "nothing is wrong with you," and refusing to answer why. Instead of working through an obvious miscommunication and educating me about my mouth/tooth, they dismissed and ignored my questions, becoming unprofessionally and verbally agitated. Remember that YOU are the one who has to live with your teeth, not the doctors, and when they perform their job as poorly as Acacia did, I highly recommend finding a different endodontist and avoid Dr. Cullimore. read more

I had such a good experience (if going to a dental office can ever be) that I am writing my first review ever. I went to see if a tooth that had already had two root canals years ago could be saved. After extensive checking and lots of effort, it was determined that the tooth had to be extracted. Dr. Cullimore did everything he possibly could to save the tooth but was also unwilling to do the procedure that he could see would fail. (He took the time to show and explain to me why that was the case.) I appreciate that and I also appreciate the caring and compassionate atmosphere in the office. I went in for a root canal procedure and everything went very smoothly. The dental hygienist made sure I was comfortable while the leading dentist was performing the procedure. This is probably the best place to get a root canal procedure done because the dentist here is a root canal specialist and has done this procedure thousands of time. Like any other dental clinic, this clinic is pricey especially for uninsured patients like myself. However you get what you pay for and in this case, I would definitely recommend spending the extra money to get your root canal procedure done perfectly without any complications. read more

I we agree with the other reviews about how they push you to get a CT Scan which is $160 and not covered by your insurance. They did say it will apply to any work that you have done. The cost for an implant is expensive so we wanted to get another estimate. Another facility did the xrays for free, cost is lower and reviews are better for an implant. Worst experience of my life. From the moment Dr. Schneider walked in to do my root canal I wished I would have never stepped foot in this office. Walking in and acting like king of the world, Dr. Schneider prompted me and asked me what was wrong and why I was there. After explaining my troubles the past week, my intense migraine and pain I was experiencing from my tooth, he proceeded to take a metal wand and POUND on my hurting tooth. I understand this is an object dentists use frequently when something isn't known about a tooth to look for sensitivity. I have been to the dentist before. Dr. Schneider did this without any warning, after I had already explained the already extreme amount of pain I was in. He then proceeded to tell me he was going to need to work on more teeth than my dentist had sent me there for. YAH RIGHT. I then found out that I wasn't getting sedation which is the ONLY reason I sought out a specialist in the first place, and why my dentist referred me to his office. After tears rolling down my face, I was forth right in telling him to move on to the root canal and just do it as I knew this was going to be the worst hour ever. As the procedure went on, Dr. Schneider was as rude as could be, bossing his staff around, telling them how to use the instruments, how he could use them better, and just plain out unprofessional. I have an amazing dentist, and while I understand I get spoiled going to her for regular check-ups, I am not used to hearing every ounce of the drill attack my mouth since I usually have on headphones with my select music. On top of listening to him rudely comment to his staff, on top of the drilling. . . my mind was a whirlwind. I also did not receive any mouth guards to help prop open my mouth for the hour long procedure and my neck started to hurt very bad. At one point during the surgery, Dr. Schneider stepped out of the room and his dental assistant felt so bad and I think she was very embarrassed. She apologized and asked if she could help me and prop my neck up more so it was supported better. I was so thankful for her to do this, but it was ruined the second he walked back in. Just like a scene out of a horror movie he took one look down and said "did you move her? I can't see now..." and pulled the lever to the dental bed out and my neck dropped down to the same position it was in. I was in SHOCK. I can't even express how helpless I felt at this point. What are you supposed to do while your mouth is wide open on a table of a Dr. you absolutely despise and all you want to do is run? Not to mention, every time my neck and face started to drift to the right, he grabbed my chin like I was a 2 year old to point it back in his direction. I seriously have never felt so controlled. Again, more tears streamed from my face and his assistants dried them with kleenex's as I sat in complete agony for the rest of the procedure. The procedure continued on and was finally finished (or so I thought). I started to sit up as he rudely said, "oh, we are not done. Your dentist asked that I prep your tooth for your crown. You still have another 30 minutes. You need a break?" WHAT?! 30 more minutes!?! At this point I was so emotional, I didn't know what to do, I was trapped, mouth wide open with a gag restraint bag covering my mouth. I couldn't talk, move, my neck killed...so he finished. I spent 30 more minutes in a chair of hell, tears dripping from my eyes when we were finally done. I shot straight up in bed and asked if there was anything I needed to do before I left. I told him it was the worst experience of my life, and I was also ashamed of how the staff let him treat them. I wouldn't work there if you paid me 100,000 a day. Oh, and it's not over. Wait for it.... THEN he tells me, he didn't even fix my tooth and there was no way he could get to the end of the root, and compared my tooth to kidney cancer, and my tooth was simply "cancer", just like a doctor not being able to get someone's cancer they are dying from out of their kidney. NO JOKE. Seriously the worst, absolute experience of my life. I would get every tooth in my mouth pulled before I would ever step foot in this office again. read more

Acacia has a scheme going on right now. When you call for an appt. you are notified that the dr. may need to do a ct scan that is not covered by insurance. When I came to my appt. the front desk notified me again that the ct scan is $160 and it's not covered by insurance. Then when the dr. came in he asked if I was told about the ct scan. They didn't really know why I was there yet. He took regular xrays that were low quality. Then told me he really needed to do the scan to see what was going on. I really didn't want to do it but he made it seem that he would just be shooting in the dark if I didn't do it. So I did the stupid scan, and guess what? He was able to tell me there was an infection at the root of my tooth. My regular dentist already showed that exact same thing on my 2D xray. I asked him why I had to pay $160 to see what my dentist already showed me. He said that she must have xrayed in just the right spot. Ha ha what a joke. In my opinion, they got a fancy new expensive machine and they making all their patience pay off the bill. I feel violated. Very disappointed! ! read more

I had a root canal at Acacia Endodontics. Very little discomfort during and after the root canal. They explained all the options. I was very happy that they were so knowledgeable, because this tooth is very important to me. If I lose the tooth I will also lose a bridge and need a partial denture or implants. I was also impressed by the level of technology they have available. I was happy to be able to get a 3D x-ray. I watched as they examined inside my tooth from every angle on a computer screen. They scrolled through the image of my tooth from top to bottom. Rotated it to locate the infection and the exact number and shape of each of the canals root. Even as a layman, I could clearly see the each of canals that needed to be cleaned out. By the way. In response to some other reviews. There was NO pressure to get the 3D x-ray. They just explained it and i choose to get it. If they were trying to "scam" me they would have told me the tooth was hopeless and pushed for me to get multiple dental implants. Instead, they worked hard to save my tooth. I am thankful for that. read more

I have been to Dr Schneider twice and I have had an extremely pleasant experience on both occasions. I have no idea what these other negative reviews are about. Atleast one of them that was written on 4/3/2013 seems completely false and cooked up. My first visit to Dr Schneider was for a root canal treatment. My primary dentiist referred me to Dr Schneider as it was a complex root canal and he wanted an experienced endodontist to work on it. I am the kind of a person who gets extremely uncomfortable and nervous during dental visits to the extent I sometimes have fainting spells. I told Dr Schneider about this. Dr Schneider and his staff were extremely courteous, caring and made me very comfortable during the treatment. He often checked with me during the procedure to see if I was doing ok. It was one of the smoothest dental procedures I have had (believe me, I have had a few!). The second time, my primary dentist thought I may have a possible root canal and once again referred me to to Dr Schneider. Dr Schneider did some tests and informed me I did not need a root canal. Again, both Dr Schneider and his staff were extremely pleasant, courteous and professional. I felt compelled to write this review after I read the other ones because my experience does not even remotely match the other 2 reviews here. I went to Acacia Endodontics in Ahwatuakee for a consult/treatment of a cracked tooth. If the tooth was savable, I would get a root canal so I could get a crown from my dentist. Since my dentist referred me to an endodontist that was out-of-network, I found Acacia. I explained why I was there to Dr. Riehm. He evaluated the tooth, carefully explained to me what we were up against and what my options and possible outcomes might be. After evaluating the tooth, he took the time to call my dentist as a consult to let him know what he found. It was decided that I would get a root canal even though the root/nerve and tooth were healthy. Since it was a bicuspid, after the old decay/filling was removed and the tooth was ground down to see how bad the crack was, I would need a couple of pins installed to facilitate installing a crown. That would require the root canal. He took the time to explain everything, every step of the way and answered all of my questions. He was careful and thorough. When he was finished with the root canal and installed the pins, he took an x-ray so I could see what he did. He filled the tooth, which was also a careful, multi-step process. This, along with the two pins, gave me enough tooth to install a crown onto. I paid my bill and left. The next day, Dr. Riehm called me to let me know that they inadvertently overcharged me and would be issuing me a refund. As a side note, the office staff (Tonya) was very nice and the assistant (Gina) was pleasant and professional as well. It was a great experience as root canals go. ;) I would recommend Dr. Riehm without reservation. read more

The service I had done (root canal) was fine. However, the billing process is borderline fraudulent. The contact the insurance company ahead of time to determine what amount the insurance will pay, then work up an "estimate" of what I will be charged. However, they do not get any of the pertinent facts from the insurance company, such as whether their procedures will even be covered or whether there are allowed limits for the procedures. As a result, their estimate is WAY off from the actual cost. In my case, their estimate was for about $440. I signed the form indicating the estimate for $440, we did the tooth, and I paid the $440. Then, after the insurance results came in, suddenly my share was $950! They don't care, they don't follow up with the insurance company to see why their quoted values are so far off. In my case 2 of the procedures were not covered, and the main procedure had an allowance limit $500 less than what was being charged by Acacia. If they would ask for the proper insurance values all of this would be avoided. read more

They really try hard to sell you the 3D scan that's not covered by insurance. They made me feel unease of their intentions as medical service personnel. On top of that, the endodontist (Schneider) came across as narcissistic and disrespectful. When I asked about the recovering of my tooth after the procedure, he told me that it was biology we were taking about, not simple mechanics, as if I was too ignorant to comprehend what he had to say. I suppose I could have given him a brief explanation on the "simple mechanics" as a mechanical engineer, but I decided not to waste my time. I ended up going to a different endodontic office for my root canal retreat. I got a better quote and was never once told I need a 3D scan even if that office had the 3D scan equipment. I went to acacia endodontist due to my general dentist wanting a second opinion. I called the office and was told, " your insurance covers the exam at 100%." I booked my appointment which was on the following Monday. While at the appointment, I was told, ( for the second time) that my evaluation was covered and I would only have to pay for the $150.00 3D ex ray. I then receive a call from the office, " your evaluation was not covered and we want to bill your credit card on file." Um, no! I called my insurance company and they told me they had not received ANY call from the endodontist until the day AFTER my appointment??? They also told me the office should write off the $150 exam fee- which they did not. I would NOT recommend this office- they lied to me, twice. Although the dentist was nice enough, the Better Business Bureau will be hearing from me- this is NOT right and people are getting ripped off.
