I attended Academy of Nail Technology and overall I had a good experience. I passed both my tests on my first try and they did a great job at getting me prepared and ready. They go over a lot of the basics. Cindy was amazing at her job and was always so sweet to me. There were a few things that I think could have been planned or thought out better. And I have taken some courses outside of school to deeper my knowledge and experience but if you need a quick program to get your license in Phoenix this is a good spot to start. read more

My daughter attends this school and is set to graduate in September. Recently, she had a field trip scheduled at the State Board, and I had to drive her there since the school did not provide transportation. When we arrived, the staff at the State Board told us that her scheduled day had actually been the previous week. I was extremely upset, as I had driven an hour to get her there, only to find out that the school had given her the wrong date. When asked what would happen next, the teacher simply said that the students would have to learn the material on their own time. This is completely unacceptable. We pay thousands of dollars for this program, yet the school fails to provide proper scheduling, transportation, or even the correct materials. Now my daughter has to figure out how to learn what she missed on her own;something we're essentially paying the school to provide. On top of that, they are currently on their last section of schooling using e-file, even though my daughter and other students were already expected to use it on clients before being taught how to properly use it. She has also told me that her teacher, Ms. Roze, and the teacher's assistant not only show favoritism toward certain students but also regularly talk badly about others. This kind of behavior is unprofessional, discouraging, and creates a toxic learning environment. Do not bring your children here. If you're paying thousands of dollars, there are far better schools that will actually provide the proper education, structure, and respect that students deserve. read more

STUDENT REVIEW DONT RECOMMEND To start off this school is good to pass your test but its not really good to actually learn how to do your practice's , I learned that more from my peers than the instructor and the helper. The instructor and helper Miss Razo & Mitchell gossip about people they're not a fan of, they're very childish and don't like when someone has the courage to stand of for themselves, they will deny it and not accept when they're wrong or have made a mistake. I felt as if I was in middle school with this teacher and helper. Miss razo teaches unorganized, everything is all messed up as if she doesn't know what she's doing & at times I've asked a question and just got a shrug and an " idk". Favoritism is VERY loud here. I wouldn't recommend this school unless those 2 were out and there was actual professional instructors. Miss razo did lash out on the class once and spoke out in anger, a professional doesn't take personal feelings to their profession, although Razo & Mitchell always say " it's not personal " they make it personal.Razo took her baby to school for a week and when we would go up to her to ask a question she would tell us to ask Mitchell because she's with her baby, the reason why this was a problem was because they would both tell us different things and not see eye to eye with eachother when giving us an answer,I paid to learn not to be at a daycare it's not the students fault Razo didn't have her plans for the baby to be else where, there was a blood incident and Razo was no where to be found and when we did she was with her baby this day was a client day and my client had witnessed this as well and commented on how they thought that was unprofessional and unacceptable as well. I went to school here and to be so honest I loved my experience here. Ms Razo is the instructor here and has job a phenomenal job as a teacher. Between her and Brian, the owner, I truly feel prepared to start on my nail tech journey. I started from no experience and now I feel very well equipped with a WIDE variety of techniques. Ms Razo went out of her way to give me as many demos as I needed and gave us any kind of tips and tricks she could think of. Brian was also extremely helpful and supportive throughout this whole process on a more individual level which I appreciate greatly. Special shoutout to Cindy and Annabelle for being an amazing behind the scenes support. I graduated from this school this year in May.. It's an amazing school, they're are very hands on with you and will take the time to sit with you 1x1 if you ask for help. I do want to throw out there though this School focuses a lot on the basic of manicure and pedicures, they do teach acrylic but very minimal of it. They do need to improve in a lot of areas but otherwise it is a fantastic school to prepare you for the state board exam, at the end of the day I highly recommend this school for beginner nail technician's. read more

*student review* ZOO MEETS CIRCUS!! This place is chaos. Not only is the facility rundown and filthy with holes in the ceilings, dirty sinks, and floors that never get mopped... the staff are just as gross, vaping indoors, trash talking students, the older instructor was walking around barefoot. Also the products, polish, and towels are crusty. The instructors never agree on anything, one says up while the other says down. The police has been called for incidents between the director and students. The director brian is often rude and curses at students. Another student showed me a recording of him cursing at her during a meeting. He's nice at first until you sign the contract and give him your money then he shows his true colors. He makes agreements then breaks them. (Make sure you get everything in writing!) Many of the students have issues with their hour count and their tuition being wrong. Be careful not to get overcharged. THE TUITION IS WAY OVERPRICED FOR WHAT YOU LEARN! OTHER SCHOOLS IN THE VALLEY CHARGE LESS AND TEACH MORE! DO NOT INVEST 8k AND NOT GAIN THE KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS YOU NEED. Here, you watch a bunch of YouTube and Young Nails videos and the instructor piggybacks off the information. You learn the bare minimum basics and they do not teach any gel enhancements only acrylic and barely that. The director brags about being in business for over 20 years but it does not reflect in the day to day operation. The staff are beyond unorganized. They make it up as they go and change things spur of the moment. The experience here was not pleasant at all for many of the students. If you want to actually learn and get your money's worth, attend a different school! There are better options! read more

Brian the instructor is very money hungry won't allow you to have a flexible schedule as an adult who needs to pay bills he would constantly ask for more money because my schedules were changing due to work. The staff is not understanding of your life at all they just expect their payments and whatever your struggling with they won't even try to help. Multiple people in my class have experienced being yelled at by school instructor Brian. (Mind you we are all adults) He is very nice when you first come to tour and is a completely different person once enrolled. I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND this school whatsoever. If I could transfer schools I would not have finished here and left to another school. VERY DISAPPOINTING!!!! I am currently a student and my experience so far has been great. Mrs. Flores has made my experience here amazing because of her calm motherly approach and knowledge. She's here 6 days a week from 8:30 am - 9 pm instructing us with patience. If it weren't for her I don't know how I would've made this far. Not only does she have over 20 years experience but she is always teaching us new acrylic techniques and designs. If you're looking for a school to become a licensed nail tech I highly recommend her. After a friend and her daughter came and told me about the cost of a kids mani/pedi, I decided to come and bring my 4 year old daughter. For a mani and pedi it was $8. Steal of a deal. The staff and students were very nice to us and patient. They said they did not take walk ins but I called and got a same day appointment. There are not pedicure chairs; they bring out tubs of water. Plus side to that is it allows for a pedicure if you are taking a long time to get your nails done but downside is it makes you miss the comfy massage chairs if all you're there for is a pedicure. The work is being done by students so it may take longer and they may need re do work as they go. My daughter got color changing polish and talked about it the whole way home, about her magical polish.... well most of the way home ... within 2 hours 75% of the polish had come off even with her being extra careful. My polish started to bubble as well so I doubt it will make it til the weekend. read more

A place like this is hard to review, as it is a school. Meaning, if you love OR hate your manicurist, i guarantee you they wont be there the next time you go in, as they graduate often. SO, its a complete hit or miss. Now, i reviewed this place the original time i came in, because even though the place was ghetto, it was clean. And i absolutely loved the girls who did my nails. That was over a year ago. Back then, i was a nail bitter, so i mainly came for the pedi. Well, fast forward to now, i have finally (only took me my whole life) stopped biting my nails. Now that i actually have nails, i like the look of polish on them. This is a new experience for me. I recalled getting a smoking deal here, so when i thought of trying out gel polish, i purchased here. I wanted the pay as little as possible in case i didnt like the results. I wandered in here today, of course 1 day before my Groupon expired. I called about 2 weeks out to get the date/time i wanted, gave her my Groupon code as requested, and arrived on time. The lady at the front was nice to me, until she realized i was an existing client. I reminded her (because i am an avid Groupon purchaser), that if there is a limit 1 for each client, there is a way to block the Groupon user from purchasing a 2nd one, so there are no issues with repeat coupons. Well, the site let me purchase a 2nd one, over a year after the 1st one, so i thought nothing of it. The receptionist seemed highly annoyed, and made an "exception" in allowing me to keep my appointment, im like, you already redeemed the voucher, so you got paid. Whatever. The young lady (student) I believe was Janice. She was very kind, however that has nothing to do with the service i paid for. I was taken back to a room and asked to take a seat, on a couch. I kid you not, i was so uncomfortable the entire time i couldnt wait to run out of there. I am short (5'4) and my feet couldnt even reach the ground. The couch (and me when i was done) were stiff. there was literally nothing relaxing about the appointment. The end result, my nails look fine. It took 2.5 hours, for mani and pedi. That is like triple what it would take elsewhere. Going here is a gamble, at the end of the day, come in with low expectations. These students are learning, therefor you arent going to get 5 star results. You get what you pay for. Be fair, have patience, and tip them regardless (i did still tip here even though i was EHH about this trip). Oh and remember to not buy more than one groupon unless you want to be given the evil eye and possibly turned away. read more

I came here last year and (Ms Shelby and Ms Sabra) just teach you the basics of acrylic, but on the other hand Ms Razo is such a great instructor she know what she is doing she know the trends of nail and teach you how to do them, and she is an amazing instructor she has too much energy and makes everybody laugh. When you call the school Brian the owner is really good at selling you a dream. He says all the right things until its time to deliver on his word. When I signed up for this school I specifically asked about the curriculum, what was included and pricing as most do. I was told we would learn basic fundamentals along with nail art from a licensed instructor. Thank God for Ms. Flores, she was the only instructor at the time I started she was amazing but is no longer at Academy of Nail technology. Brian lost the only Good full time instructor he had. Now he has about 6 part time instructors some with cosmo licenses who are MEH at nails and others i haven't even seen they are so part time. He no longer goes over the book and expects you to do that on your own. Well for the bilingual this might be hard for them but does he care no, he also truly doesnt want to teach nail design AND DOESNT (so if he says he does he is lying also he is not a licensed Nail instructor if he tries to say he is) One of the major issues at his school besides the lack of honesty of what his school teaches is MISSING hours . I lost count of the people who had an issue with accurate hours that were not reported or kept track of and when you go to him he makes you feel like your wrong and he is right so keep detailed track of your hours if you do make the mistake of enrolling here . I didnt know what to expect when i purchased a groupon for a gel manicure and a spa pedicure but when i called to schedule i was able to get an appointment before my trip. When the appointment finally came , walking in it was super cute inside and i was greeted warmly. Even though i had purchased a groupon i was taken care of extremely well. My manicurist nicole did a great job with my natural nails, they turned out just exactly how i like . I got the same exact outcome i would have if i paid way more at a nail salon. My toe paint was so thick it wrinkled and got bumpy later that night. It hasn't been a week and the gel on my hands has now chipped and one nail broke. With gel, thats never happened to me. Ill pay more for a better job elsewhere. I spent two hours there all the other girls had conversations with the ladies they were doing nails to. I attended this school this past year and Just recently graduated. Im Already a licensed esthetician And I do not live in Phoenix so I had to commute. When I came in for my tour Bryan was aware of my schedule accommodations I needed and he said no issues and that was fine that they could accommodate me. The things that were mentioned that we were supposed to learn I did not and it wasn't even taught so it's not like I missed it When I wasn't there. They were supposed to teach gel which they did not they also did not spend any time teaching Acrylic application or structure, how to file correctly how to use your e-file correctly and what e-file bit is for what not to mention all of the tools that they gave us they never told us what those were for. We We're given paper with bubbles on it to practice our acrylic but we were not shown how to put it on a nail, Such as how big it should be,wet vs dry etc.. learning on a piece of paper is very different than on a person or a hand. A lot of times when I got to school they already went over certain things but because I wasn't there those days and they knew I wouldn't be there I Therefore did not get to learn certain things. The theory was all over the place acrylic and gel and tips should have been taught right off the bact along with the structure of the nail,e-filing and everything else But they spend more time on manicures and pedicures. That goes along with nails. nothing was coordinated together and it was all a mess not to mention Bryan makes his own book because he doesn't want to order the professional book because they are $80 a piece. So guess what, when it was time to study for boards the questions that were on state board were not in the binder that he gave us so thank God I was given a real book to study from. Certain questions were on the test as we were not taught and he just picks and chooses what he thinks not to mention he is old school and does not believe in keeping up to date with the trends And literally said to me and another girl that tips are not a big deal to teach or even teaching the students how to use the nippers Because he wants to cover his butt in case someone nipd somebody which I understand but we should have still been shown how to use them, why were they in our kit then? The teachers were not accommodating to my schedule and they were super confused why I was not there all the time and Bryan literally said he was sorry because he didn't tell them so the teachers didn't treat me very nice and actually made me feel like I was an idiot and horrible at nails but guess what,I was never shown properly how to do anything! Then towards the end of a graduating all we did was work on art there was no state board prep at all Except for a mini test to take which those questions were not even on state board. And unless you did You're online stuff which was a joke and that app didn't even work. 2 teachers literally walked out on a Saturday because they were tired of the things going on and the way it was ran so that shows you something right there then a teacher comes back from maternity leave and is just thrown into everything and even asked why everything was a mess and she was rude to me because she didn't understand why I didn't know things because I was part-time and had an accommodating schedule And literally made me feel like an idiot.I am not the only person that feels this way the entire class I went to school with was disappointed. Brian also did not tell me and another girl about the graduation day party Till the day before And because we do not live there and it was last minute we did not get to go he did it on purpose because he wanted us out of there to be honest Because we are not ones to just not say how we feel when things are being ran incorrectly. I also went over in hours by 3 days because no one keeps track of them we are students going to school trying to get through all of this and that's hard enough and keep up on our hours so I went over an hour by 3 days so I drove back and forth 43 days where's my gas and bursement also they are supposed to reimburse you for signing up for state board tests which they don't.I am looking into legal help about this situation And State Board help because I am out of school now and do not feel like I learned anything really I am having to self teach myself and watch videos not to mention that's all the school does as well as make you watch videos but after the video was over they don't demonstrate. this school is a nightmare, all they do is take class after class Shoving us in like we're sardines. Like it is a factory because he wants your money and do not go there if you don't speak english because you will have trouble taking your state boards. When meeting the "manager" who said we would need an appointment, I thought "Sure...? Usually, I could use my Groupon right away but whatever". They really didn't seem busy at all on a Thursday after-freaking-noon. To start let's say you cannot get the service when you need it, you have to wait for weeks, then when my appointment was getting closer they call me to reschedule. I know it was a groupon, but to wait that long? Not fair. Ok, I am aware this being a School, but 1 hour for a manicure? It is way too long, plus my nails weren't even dry after 10 minutes in that hot-air-nail-dryer. Of course right after opening the door to get out my nails were ruined. So one hour was wasted. My student kept reading the instructions step by step, she didn't even know how to file my nails. I won't even go back to get my pending pedicure. So my money and time went to waste.
