I booked a basic manicure/pedicure. They seem to run late so expect a wait before starting. We began with the pedicure. The student never introduced herself. She removed some tools from what looked like a personal makeup bag, obviously not sterilized. I requested alcohol be sprayed on them before starting. She poured a foot bath but never put my feet into it. Filed and pushed back cuticles, did not trim cuticles, asked if I wanted lotion. No polish offered, when I asked about basic lacquer (not gel) was told that is extra. I cancelled the manicure. read more

Booked an appointment for highlights for two people through Groupon. The appointments were confirmed several times through text and phone calls. Our appointments were at 12:45. Once checked in, we learned THIRTY MINUTES LATER, that the girls that were supposed to do our highlights did not report to work. They tried to find new stylists and we were fine to wait. My son Lucien wanted a haircut & style with a fashion color for his birthday. I took him to the Paul Mitchell School Phoenix the Valley's premiere school for beauty education and cosmetology. They also offer salon services where their students learn and instructors teach the necessary skills to work in a salon setting. Now, a cut style and fashion color takes a little while the whole process was about 4.5 hours, but the student stylist was very careful and thorough she gave Lucien a wonderful cut and color. The staff was very friendly we paid $150, but when calling around various salons, I was getting quotes of $250 and up, so they really are a good value. The students are closely supervised by the instructors, and I would say they are every bit as good most Valley salons. read more

I took the esthetician program, and unfortunately, I did not have a good experience with the instructor. The esthetician instructor who teaches the adaptive and creative students would constantly talk about her personal belief; whether that was politics, religion, or other topics that are inappropriate to bring up in a school environment, especially when the contract states that neither students nor teachers are allowed to do so. Many of her comments also made students uncomfortable and were not very professional. I do not believe this instructor should still be teaching here. I believe that students who are paying deserve to be in an environment where they are not constantly made to feel uncomfortable by the instructor. read more

I have come to this school twice now and received two great haircuts. Even thought I have come for just a trim both times, the students were kind and passionate about their job. I really enjoy getting my haircut here to help teach others as well! Buckle up folks because boy do I have a lot to say about this school. If you are thinking of enrolling I would tell you to reconsider. The instructors have no idea what they're talking about and contradict themselves every week (with literally everything). It took weeks for us to get any of our kits and were severely overcharged for something you can get at walmart (knowing months ahead the start dates for students.) The teachers are unprofessional and talk down their own students, even going out of their way to talk about students behind their back to other students!! There were SA allegations against once of the teachers and she's still there and had little to no punishment at all, they're supposed to be escorted off the campus. The same instructor that was accused also loves to call her students whores (on multiple occasions as we were talking about HPV.) Politics and religion are talked about constantly regardless of how uncomfortable the students are. If you are there for the Esthetician program I would tell you honestly to consider your other options. Don't let the tours fool you, they talk up the schools to anyone to lure you in just for you to realize it was the complete opposite of what they were showing. read more

I'm giving this review 2 stars only because the student assigned to me, Amanda, did a great job on the parts of the service she completed and was very kind. I totally understand that this is a SCHOOL but I expected a little more expertise from the teachers, who ended up causing the issues with my hair. The rest of the review only deserves one star. The customer service at this school is absolutely terrible. I came in with a Groupon, which I firmly believe made them treat me differently. They hassled me multiple times about accepting the Groupon. Eventually they did, but at one point they told me I wasted my money on the Groupon and I just don't think that's an appropriate thing to say to a customer. I went in with multiple pictures asking for a very subtle baylayage and came out with a streaky, blunt blonde ombré. Amanda put in 2/3 of the foils on my head, then had one of the other students do 1/3. The parts Amanda did were great, but then on the other side, it's super streaky with a harsh line. As well, the learning leaders kept telling her to leave the foils in "another 20 mins" which ended up keeping foils in my hair for over an hour. Then MULTIPLE learning leaders come and put MORE lightener in the foils and tell me to wait ANOTHER 20 minutes or so. I asked for a SUBTLE baylayage...I now have blonde hair and brown roots. If the learning leaders were actually competent, I believe this could have been avoided. I left as fast as I could because i was there for 3.5 hours and ready to be home. I tried to make the new color work over the weekend, but then I had to call back on Monday to see if they could fix it. Obviously as a working adult, I can't come during normal business hours, and they told me I was then out of luck. I'm now going to a wedding this weekend out of town with horrible hair. read more

When I got home and looked in the mirror, I saw the areas I pointed out in the back were not lightened. I called the school and made an appointment to have it redone. This is a really hard review to write as I absolutely love this color, the guy that did my color was super nice but I've been miserable since I got this done. I was there for almost 4 hours for a root touch up. My entire scalp feels like it's on fire still. I've had this color, by a different stylist, and my scalp did not react this way. I think he left it on too long or put something extra in there. I was his 1st female, long hair client so he hadn't done a root touch up on long hair before. It's been 6 days and I still have red and bumpy marks all along my hairline. I called the next day (Tuesday)and talked to Susan and she suggested I get an allergy test from my Dr. Really? This isn't an allergy. He absolutely burned my scalp. I thought someone would follow up with me but they obviously don't care. I definately won't be back. read more

Paul Mitchell Phoenix is new to providing Esthetician schooling and let me tell you they are not prepared for this. My daughter is a current student and basically you are paying a school but teaching yourself skin care. You would think skin care is the most important part of learning to be an Esthetician. You would think the teacher would demonstrate or show videos before they try anything on another person. They are expected to wing it on their own when practicing, My daughter was injured during waxing. 3 classes in a row have complained that they are not being taught. So if you don't mind teaching yourself and paying a school then this is the school for you. It's sad there's students paying almost $12k and no one to properly teach them. read more

What a joke. They should not offer any sort of highlights or balayage here. The first time I went in "the student" did my hair. She was so kind and really did her best. She dove right into the balayage with little to no supervision from the instructor, Lisa. It wasn't until the very end did Lisa tell her to brush backwards to get a better blended look for a shadow root. When it was time to tone, Lisa told the student to leave in the toner for 10 minutes and to grab her when the time is up to take a look. My student misunderstood and washed it out at 10 minutes which was too soon. Instead of sending me back to tone more, Lisa get let it slide and failed me and her student. Overall the student had the right idea but I asked for white in my hair and brightness and it wasn't even close. I looked so washed out and I had yellow and orange roots and chunks throughout my hair. Went back because I wanted it lighter and more toner and should've gone somewhere else. Lisa gave me two people to work on my hair and, again, did not give them any instruction on how to blend for a "shadow look". my hair is white all around minus my roots which makes me look like I bleached my hair 3 weeks ago and have an awful growout. ALSO both students working on my hair were talking, while washing my hair, about how much they wanted to leave this school and graduate but were concerned that they hadn't learned anything during their time there. Both times, Lisa had to come over and convince me that this was the look I wanted after it was dried. I don't blame the students because apparently they are learning nothing at this school. I booked the appointment wanting to do a balayage, cut and style to my hair. Unfortunately my hair was already too damaged and the instructor very nicely explained to me that they didn't want to continue to damage my hair but set a plan on what we could do. That makes me feel better as a client to actually know that they have my hairs best interest at heart and won't just fry it because it's what I think is best hahah The young lady that did my hair (Yajaira) was so nice, kind and amazing! Let me start by saying the entire faculty at this school should lose their jobs. These "educators" need to be investigated for fraud. Now, despite the poor management and all around scumminess of the staff, the service is not great either. I can tell the students would like to learn how to style and cut hair well, but the teachers they have on the floor seem to not only have no knowledge of the topic, they actively encourage poor work. First hand, I have seen students projects be cut short because the staff wants to go home early. I have seen students completely burn off someone's hair, and they were told they did accessional. I have even seen students doing administrative duties so that certain staff can have a long lunch. All of this is taking place while students try their best to teach themselves how to cut hair on your head; leaving them clueless and overwhelmed. DO NOT PAY FOR ANY SERVICE HERE! read more

It's always nice to save some money but you always make sure that you have plenty of time because it will take extra time for the student to work on your hair. This does save a lot of money so if you're on a budget like me it's great to go out and have the students work on your hair on the simple things that you can't do yourself and it also gives you a touch of a spa day. read more
