Was initially responsive and came out quickly to look at my broken garage door spring. Said they would be in later in the week. Called back later in the week and he said he was hoping they would be in that day... Now, almost 2 weeks after they initially came out, I have not heard back and they won't answer the phone. We had previously had a positive experience with Academy Overhead Door roughly 8 years ago and therefore didn't think to check their recent ratings. When one of the springs broke on our garage door on Saturday, August 12th, we were relieved to hear that they could come out that evening. James McGuffey and his son came to our house and installed a temporary fix, which rejoined the two broken pieces of spring by threading a piece of metal onto each end. We were instructed to use it sparingly until the springs could be replaced. We agreed that he would replace both springs and that we would pay half the cost upfront. We sent him $225 that night after reviewing the invoice. We followed up with him on Thursday, August 17th regarding installation and heard back the following day that he had been out sick but would be back to work the following week. He assured us he would reach out on Sunday, August 20th to schedule installation. We have not heard anything from him since August 18th despite many attempts to reach him. We also attempted to go to the physical address listed on their website, but no building with that address exists on Pinon Ranch View. He has simply disappeared with our $225. We ended up contacting another company to complete the repair, and we will be pursuing legal action against Academy Overhead Door to recoup the money we paid toward the garage door repair. read more

Unfortunately, I have to report a bad customer service experience with Academy Overhead Doors. To make a long story short, Academy Overhead Doors was called to repair a magnetic limit switch. I thought the price was very high so I called the company for an adjustment. They refused and James, the owner, said his prices are higher than competitors but his company does a good job. I found a coupon on their website that reads, "Save $35 Off Service, Good for $35 off any service performed, Cannot be combined with any other promotions and or discounts." I immediately called and asked James to credit my bill $35. He refused and said I have to ask at payment. I don't understand why that would make a difference when I presented the coupon soon after payment. This is such bad customer service for a variety of reasons: potential customers are more important than existing customers, there are no disclosures on line that the coupon must be presented at payment, I called immediately after payment to redeem coupon, the owner is making a big deal over a small $35 off of nearly $200 ($199.95) bill, his attitude does not promote future business, the owner complained this service/issue is taking 4 hours of his time yet refuses to honor his coupon, and he kept making excuses why he's not going to honor the $35 coupon. He did finally offer $50 off future service & a can of lube but that's not what I was asking for. I tried hard to rectify the situation a few times to make things right because the last thing I wanted to do was report a bad experience with a small business. This situation was a blessing in disguise because it motivated me to interview several competitors and I found an amazing company to do all of my garage door repair and maintenance: Father and Son Garage Door. Great companies with awesome customer service should be rewarded. In my opinion, this company is not one of them. Hopefully, this review will help them make their future customers happy. read more

Set up appointment, Shawn came and serviced door. They gave a two hour window of service and updates on exact time and called 20 minutes out from call...what more could be asked. With coupon for service I paid $90.00. I had nothing wrong so expected no real issues just doing a five year check up. read more

I came behind this company to install a door opener for a lady I do considerable handyman work for. She had been quoted $200 to install a gear kit or $500 to install an opener. They charged her a little less than $100 to tune-up her door, she decided she would pick up a really good opener at Lowe's for $200 and have me install it. The door had an unbalanced weight of about 100#. Garage doors should be easy to lift and close by hand before installing an opener. I couldn't believe that they left a door this "heavy" after charging for a tune-up. This door had side-mounted springs which I can work on, but I prefer to let a garage door pro do this kind of work. I told client to call one of the Yelp five-star rated companies and have them balance door and install opener. Most prefer to install their own opener, but I'm sure that any competent garage tech will work with her, and if not, I will come back and do the opener install. There are quite a few 5 star rated door techs listed on Yelp, I'd recommend using one of them. read more

I bought a coupon from angies list. Matthew came out on time explained everything here is going to do. Later came to the door and suggested I should replace my rollers. I could see they were rusted and worn. No hard sell just a suggestion. The new rollers had nylon on me you roller part and were warranted for life. I agreed and he was done in a short while with all his adjustments. The gar age door was the quietest it has ever been. read more

Very rude and unprofessional. These gentleman show up and hassle my wife about driving so far for our appointment with them that they have to charge her a $49 service call fee even though our garage door issue was resolved. They didn't even look at the garage, just stood at the front door demanding money for driving out. I think they are used to working for people with money who will pay them to go away. I'm a military guy and they don't offer a discount or honor coupons for the service call fee. It would be different if they had even looked at the garage. read more

This was the first time I used this company. Was impressed with my initial call for an appointment to service my doors. I told them I saw a groupon for servicing and asked if I needed a groupon for each of my two doors. Was told no, and in fact, was given the groupon rate without having to download the groupon. My appointment was on Wednesday morning between 9 and 11 am. Got a call from Shawn when he was 25 minutes away, and he and Matt arrived as stated. Professional, caring, and productive. They serviced both doors and explained what they did. I took the opportunity to inquire about replacing an old Craftsman opener. They offered what I thought was a reasonable cost on a new on, so I had them do a major replacement job with a Liftmaster. I'm so glad I did, and I was thankful Shawn and Matt could do it right then and there. Doesn't always happen this way! We were in a bind. It was Wednesday evening and the spring broke on our garage door with one car trapped inside. I was out of town and called Academy Overhead Door to see if they could possibly help us as my wife needed to leave town the next morning. I received a courtesy call at about 7:30 am and Jason arrived right at 8:00. He diagnosed the problem, fixed the door, and was on his way by 9:00 am. The whole process was extremely quick and easy. This company, be careful. I had work done a year ago to replace a broken spring. The same replacement spring broke the company came out and told me this was the other side. They made the entire process complicated, difficult and they seemed down-right dishonest. The tech told me when they replace springs, the write notes based on standing outside the door, yet a tech from the company told me, on the same day, they write notes from inside the garage looking out. Regardless of in or out, the same spring is broke and this company wont cover under warranty. This company even went as far as to call me back to tell me they cant discuss how the determine what side over the phone...after they had already done so. They confuse and frustrate the customer, with smoke screens with the anticipation the customer gives in. Be warned. Plenty of other companies that will treat you with care, honesty and respect. read more

Not sure if this goes with Academy Overhead Door in the springs too, but horrible HORRIBLE company! Between taking months to fix because wrong panels ordered, etc.... The end price was over $100 that we were quoted... The customer service was bad.... So, when out bill came closer to $750 that $600 as told... We started getting very unhappy with this business... Then after posting a Facebook review we have someone call to offer us $75 refund & they asked us to take our review down.... So we did in hopes they'd keep their word & weeks later still nothing! I post on their Facebook & now they just delete their reviews! I work for a small business and NEVER would we treat our customers like this!! Do not go here, you will have to call the company to see what's going on and everything, they will not give you updates by calling you & letting you know. Plus, when you call they will be rude... Except when they want payment. If you want your patience tested, months to fix your door & be overcharged (with a lie of a refund) then go here...
