Adult Companion Care (ACC) provided seamless professional, reliable, loving, and personal home care services for our family at a time when we needed support. Within one hour of a late night online request for help (for our 92 year old father) from various agencies, a personal response (rather than computer generated) came in from Jim Lindsey (President/CEO) who suggested connecting by the phone the following day; that conversation the next day was the second huge encouragement for us as we sensed genuine interest, empathy, concern and understanding of our situation. He set up an initial home visit assessment/evaluation, and this turned out to be a wonderful experience because there was no sense of feeling rushed or pressed. In addition, everything was clear and transparent. Afterwards, we had some weeks before our need for in-home care, but we could call ACC at any point before services to have additional questions answered or to update needs or changes. From speaking to various team members, it was clear that this company worked as a respectful and well-coordinated "family". Our close-knit family is very involved in the care of our 92-year-old father, who has a good number of chronic conditions and medical/health issues that need to be understood in order to care for him properly. Complete and careful body care/hygiene, good nutrition and prevention of illness or other conditions were important for us in our short-term need for services, but much more of our concern was our father's mental health and sense of feeling secure and understood by someone outside of the home. Our mother, 88, who did not herself need physical services, nonetheless, needed someone who could reassure her and who would be sensitive emotionally to both of them, in addition to doing things she could not do for my father that required special skills. From the first time we met Fatmata, the certified nursing assistant assigned by ACC, we were immediately impressed and reassured. She was a perfect fit for us, and my mother shared that it was like having one of her daughters around. We are four sisters and one brother who provide care for our parents. In other words, the caregiver needed to fill in for over a week and take care of a man who was under the observation and love of many family members. In ACC's complimentary hour of orientation/training, the daughter, who is a nurse, was impressed by Fatmata's manner as she was exceptionally intuitive, observant, and attentive with a high level of sensitivity and compassion. Although there was some initial adjustment for my father because he was missing his regular daily caregivers, after a couple of days, he was genuinely thanking Fatmata for her help. We are deeply grateful for Adult Companion Care and their dedication, personal care, and willingness to work with us to find the best support for our father so that he could remain comfortable and safe at home. After working with Adventist, Visiting Angels, Synergy, and Right at Home, ACC Family was a breath of fresh air. The schedulers are incredibly patient, kind, and HONEST about what they can and can't do, which was such a big change. They also have some truly world class caregivers. There were some bad ones too, but in the end there were two people (Queen and Libby) who were simply incredible and were such a blessing to have caring for Mom. They have a relatively small pool of staff who can do lifting / transferring, but the ones they have are mostly good. They definitely tried to match our needs with their people, and as we provided feedback the matches got much better. They didn't have enough staff to provide full 24/7 care but worked with me as I filled the gaps with private folks. When they saw a snowstorm coming they would plan to have someone stay there for 2-3 days to prevent caregivers from not showing up due to bad road conditions. I have to subtract one star just for some of the bad caregiver experiences, and because billing turned out to be a bigger hassle with them than with other companies, but if I had to recommend a home care company in the DC area to someone else, it would without question be this one. read more

ACC Family is superb. I would recommend them unreservedly to anyone seeing home health care. From the top down, they are kind, professional, efficient, compassionate, and personable. My father needed care earlier this year (2022) in the middle of health care worker shortages. ACC Family immediately returned my call when I reached out and began providing 24/7 care for my father with just a few hours' notice. Rebecca was our care team leader and she worked with me diligently to get just the right people to form our "Dream Team" for my father. We had 3 care providers that were exemplary - Lucy (our main provider, there couldn't have been anyone better in the world) and also Ishe and Loveline. All just beautiful women, who cared with competence and treated my ailing father with such amazing dignity. It was beautiful to behold. We needed short-term care as my husband was released from the hospital without notice and I wasn't physically able to get him from the car to the house. Although they prefer 24-48 hrs notice, we were desperate to have someone there when he got home from the hospital, and they jumped through hoops to have an aide waiting for us with only a few hours' notice. Other agencies didn't provide 24/7 contacts, which could prove critical if issues arise or your needs change during the off hours. Some wouldn't send anyone out until their nurse conducted an evaluation, which in our case was a non-starter because they had several days' wait. Still others insisted on a credit card in advance, whereas Adult Companion Care billed after services were provided. They promote the concept of trust both ways. Their office manager, Lori, is the face (or voice) of this business and she is so compassionate and caring, with a calm that puts anxious family members at ease. Their staff was very caring as well; we had two providers in the several weeks we needed assistance. The primary caretaker called after we had no longer needed their services, to see how my husband was doing. Just very nice and caring people. I will call them first if the need arises again, and definitely recommend them. read more

EVERYTHING about ACCFamily was exceptional. From the first conversation I had with Casey Lindsay (Director of Administration) to the assignment of a nurse for my Mom. Dealing with the impending loss of a loved one is so hard. But our nurse, Val, was extremely helpful and caring. I didn't worry as much during the times I couldn't be with my Mom when I knew Val was looking after her. Val was SO good about telling me about how Mom was during her visits. My mother needed to be released from Rehab after a hip operation. She was very unhappy and wanted to return to her retirement community. ACC Family couldn't have been better. They understood what needed to be done and acted very quickly. The care givers have been tremendous. The day and evening coordinating staff super. Mom is so much more content! You can always get in touch with someone. They call you back (Other providers don't always do that in a timely manner). Right now Mom has 24/7 service. Over time we may cut back depending on her physical therapy and abilities. ACC Family are the only ones I would call when you need a care giver. Thank you for all that you do. read more

Honestly, if you need care for yourself or your loved one, you cannot go wrong with ACC. My mom had a number of issues that needed tending to, including memory issues and regular visits to the doctor for chemo and blood transfusions. I interviewed several agencies in search of the right care for her, and ACC was it. ACC worked with us every step of the way, understanding her needs and finding us the right caretakers. We were with them for a year or so, until her passing, and during that time, the caretakers that looked after her were absolutely wonderful. Her final caretaker even came to the hospital during Mom's last days, off the clock, just to sit with her. For the sake of full disclosure, during that one year, there was one caretaker that didn't fit our needs, but ACC was very understanding and replaced her right away. The pricing and billing were also clear. They worked with her long-term care insurance, and the billing was straight-forward. That being said, whenever I did have questions or concerns, they were quick and super-courteous in their responses. Highly, highly recommend. I wish I had found them even earlier. read more

Lack of communication when your caregivers call out they don't let you know about80% of the time the caregivers are barley trained and most do absolutely nothing when they do show up now we have had a couple that care that are a help but they are far and few between we have been with them for 3 years and would leave if my mother in law let us but she doesn't like change but would never would recommend to anyone read more

My family has been navigating new waters with two parents ill (one of whom is dying of a brain disorder). Our lives have changed greatly in the last year and trying to find our way has been so painful and difficult. Finding the right people to care for my elderly parents has been challenging at best. We've had experience both in FL and in VA and I cannot say enough good things about Adult Companion Care. I would recommend this company to anyone,who is looking for assistance with an older parent or an ill family member. We work with several staff, especially Donna and she has been compassionate, professional and as it turns out - right on in picking exactly the right people to support my parents. The aides are wonderful. They are lovely people and they honestly care about my parents and taking care of them. We have a round the clock schedule Their patience, their compassion and their calmness has helped my family immensely. As a daughter, there is nothing more important to me than knowing that my mother and father are safe and cared for. On days when my mom cannot cope, the aides will take my dad to Nordstroms and the two of them will sit, enjoy an Ice Storm and talk. My parents like all of their aides very much and they treat my parents with respect as well as compassion. The staff is responsive, and reachable no matter when. In fact, I believe our original call to them was on a Sat or a Sunday and they responded to us right away. I have said this to Donna - and I mean it with my whole heart - we couldn't survive this without them. I will be eternally grateful to them for who they are, and what they do. read more

When my 83 year old mom was being released from the hospital after a stroke, we were given a long list of potential caregivers who could come to her home and provide for her. They all sounded like they provided the same care as the next company, but a friend recommended that I look into ACC Family. From the first phone call, I knew that they were genuinely concerned about my mother's welfare, and I sensed that anyone they hired would be both professional and compassionate to her needs. My mother first needed round the clock care, and the woman they sent was considerate and very helpful to my mother, but gave my mother as much independence as she could while keeping her safe. When the 24 hour care was no longer needed, we hired shift workers, who were just as wonderful!
