We then transitioned into normal care for almost a month, as my mom continued to need help and needed support to get better.

My father lived at Sunrise of Arlington for the last 4 months of his life. I really wanted to give…read moreSunrise the highest marks because the front-line staff who do the daily caretaking of residents are very kind and compassionate, and I think they do a very difficult job about as well as could be expected. I was very touched by their kindness at times. An organization is only as strong as its weakest link, however, and given our experience with the director of medical care there, I cannot recommend Sunrise. The lack of compassion and even professionalism made the final weeks of my father's life and the experience of his death much harder for him and the family than it needed to be. At the time of our greatest distress, the medical director responded to our needs and concerns with callous indifference. When choosing Sunrise for dad, I was focused on daily living questions but it turns out, the medical director is by far the most important position there. I regret I didn't realize that when we were looking for a place for dad. At the toughest time in your life, you'll want people who will help you not make it harder.

I had a lot of anxiety about my 89 year old father moving into assisted living. My main concern…read morewas would anyone really care about him because he had dementia and wasn't easy to relate to anymore? I was so impressed by the kindness and quality of the staff, despite the low salaries. There is an angelic woman named Pierrette Kayombo, the activities coordinator in memory care. Any day I wanted to talk to my dad, I could just text her and she would arrange for me to talk to him on her ipad (he couldn't follow calls anymore). That was invaluable for me. She was always so warm and good-spirited--she just put all the residents in a good mood. I remember she was working on Christmas--not able to be with her own family--and was so positive--just a model of the Christmas spirit and put on a concert and other activities. There will always be frustrations with institutions, but I think this is a really good place.

I've never met anyone quite like Donna Gayles "Community Relations Director"--her love and care for the seniors in her community are truly remarkable. Always upbeat, kind, and deeply committed, she goes above and beyond to ensure every resident has everything they need. Who wouldn't want to live at The Residences at Thomas Circle? The staff is outstanding, the food is top-tier, and the community is spotless. But what truly sets it apart is Donna Gayles--her dedication is off the charts, an 11 out of 10! She was supposed to email me some documents with information I had asked for. She didn't. I repeatedly followed up on the phone, leaving numerous messages that were never returned. If this is their level of responsiveness to somebody practically standing there with an open checkbook, I hate to think about they treat their residents.

We did not have them long but they were Pleasant, Knowledgeable, helpful and Caring. They were all terrific. The day Enjolina came to do the eval. the patient was not doing well and Enjolina noted our concern, made phone calls for us and helped us get to the decision we were struggling with. My sister-in-law was serious distress with a bad bacterial infection and needed attention. Enjolina was great! My phone calls with Kathy at the Virginia office was efficient and helpful. I would use again and refer gladly. Thank you all for caring and helping during a difficult time. A, Costello

My wife had 6 weeks of home PT and OT therapy after a knee replacement. Brittany, the PT…read moretherapist, was little help. She was not confident enough to help her stand. Brian the OT therapist was much better. After about 4 weeks, due to political tension between the PT & OT groups, the OT was directed to stop working on strengthening her legs and focus on her arms. The PT continued to work ineffectively on leg strength. My wife was making progress with OT before he was told to focus only on arm strength. The OT evaluator recommended we continue, but all home therapy was ended by the PT evaluator. When I called the Silver Spring office twice and left messages, to inquire about the status of my wife's therapy, they never returned my calls.
