From the second the engine started, he was grinning ear to ear. The cars are incredible, the track experience feels legit, and the whole atmosphere is exciting without being intimidating. His instructor was a little more conservative than expected, which held him back from really experiencing the car for what it is, but overall it was still an unforgettable experience and a great gift idea for someone who's hard to shop for. Definitely something we'd do again next trip to Vegas. We'll be back for go karting. From appointment time to finish was about two hours.

The Racing Zone is a fantastic racing experience located on Tropicana, between Paradise and Koval…read morenear MGM Grand. You'll find them in a hidden complex at McCarran Village. They're next to Subway, Nail Spa, and Super Liqour. There's ample parking, and at night the area is dimly lit. Grand opening was on May 28, 2026. Inside is dimly lit as well, and I was warmly welcomed by Cameron. I wanted to see what was available and he is nice to give a tour of the game room. They have 22 racing simulators in total, 14 esports rigs and 8 pro sim rigs. There's specific car simulators for every level from beginning to advanced, including professional racers. They do offer local discounts and you would need to show a valid Nevada ID. Pricing is $69 per hour on esports rigs, located along the middle room. These are easy to get in, simulator has forward and backward seat movements. For pro sim rigs, pricing is $79 per hour, these are located on the back wall. It gives a realistic experience with forward, backward, sideways, and diagonal seat movements. I chose esports rigs ($69) for the hour and started as beginner. Prior to racing, Nate provided helpful instructions about each buttons and how to navigate. During my first 30 minutes of racing, it went very well! I followed the racing line that changes in color from green, yellow, to red which makes it super easy to add speed, know when to slow down, and press the break. From the pit stop, timer resets to the next 30 minutes. I wanted to change the scenary but didn't know if that was possible. There's a handy help button and after pressing it, the column lighting above the room glows, I thought that was pretty cool! Nate was quick and prompt, he paused the game to answer questions I had, and afterwards I went back to racing. I finished at #46 out of 72 racers. I appreciate that Nate is very knowledgeable and thorough, he explained how the scoring works. I averaged about 2 minutes in race time and wanted to try again, it's definitely a work in progress even for a beginner. The fastest lap time is around one minute. Just a note, what I learned from this experience is to avoid braking while turning because it causes to lose traction. Also when turning into a corner, gradually ease off the break for tires to grip and not spin. It's awesome they have race night with different themes, every Thursday from 6pm-9pm. Pricing is $149 for three hours. People come in to race each other. The simulators are connected with mics, and there are four races happening throughout the night. After the race, the top three gets recognize on the podium and receive complimentary energy drinks, hats, and shirts. Also there's food and drinks available for purchase. They have a bar in the back and limited seating. Service from Cameron and Nate is very kind, welcoming, attentive, courteous, and friendly! I highly recommend visiting The Racing Zone, they open everyday, Sunday to Thursday from 11am to 9pm, and Friday to Saturday from 11am to 11pm.

As soon as you click APPLY, there's your ticket! (I never even clicked checkout) So now I'm committed to go. Luckily I picked a time on Saturday that I can actually go. I was trying to get my friend to go but no avail. I was running somewhat behind, you're supposed to be there 15 minutes prior as you need to review the intro/tutorial video. My fault for getting there 5 minutes prior. Check-in was painless as they never checked my ticket (or ID) just mention your name and you're good to go! As for the video, it wasn't helpful at all, other than you know how to adjust your seat, etc. I didn't get much from it. It would be nice a real person actually explain all the buttons and what not on these sims. As the video finished and I was just standing around waiting, one guy in a suit (must be the manager) directed me to the sim and helped me out (he was actually helpful) as I didn't even know how to hold the steering wheel properly. The video tells you to use your left foot to brake (I suppose this is how actual F1 drivers do it) definitely not used to this at all. The stick shift lever is just for looks. Same goes for the clutch pedal. The experience just sort of started (I never get to pick which vehicle or what not) Heck, I didn't even know if it was manual, semi-auto, fully auto or what.. It probably took me 15 minutes just to get a decent feel of it and was definitely frustrating. Most of the time I was just racing by myself. There's only a few instances when I saw another driver (in front) or coming from behind. As it was winding down, somehow I ended up in the pit area (not even sure how I managed to do that) I thought it was over so I parked but turns out it wasn't. So I left the pit only to have a staff member tells me it's over. Then turns out I still have 3 minutes left.. When it was finally over.. that was it. It's almost like they're saying "Exit is that way, thank you!" Did I had fun? Maybe for a few minutes out of the 30 minutes session. Would I do it again? Probably not unless my friends are going. It's just way too hardcore for this old guy.. I'll stick with Mario kart with strangers..

I usually select a Porsche because that's what I own so I don't have to familiarize myself with the controls and feel of the car. However, starting with a GT4RS was a mistake. My nickname as a motorcycle racer was "The Old, Slow Man". Equipped with semi-slicks, I was wasting the performance of the car with my tentative, senior citizen driving. I'd been faster in this model on a prior visit. I continued to struggle with turn 3 and for some reason I lost my feel for turn 10. Doing well on both are key to decent lap times. Alas, I finished my stint in the Porsche feeling down ... Is it true that the older you get, the slower you go? It seemed so to me. I waited a bit for a C8 to return to the pits, relaxing on a sofa, people watching. Sam was my pro in the C8, his style was more conducive to me turning better laps. He offered clear instructions, 3-2-1 BRAKE, turn in, 20% throttle, more throttle, give it the gas! As a result, I was seven seconds faster in the C8 than I was in the GT4RS. Sam told me I should have started with the C8, it's easier to drive. The next time, I will start with the C8 and move on to a more track-focused car. Lesson learned! The experience cost $801.90 for the two cars, $86.90 for the videos, and $100 in tips. Highly recommended!

It's also a bonus we can bring in any food/drinks/decorations and stay as long as we like! I was especially impressed with how they handled the weather. We had high wind warnings that day, and I was worried the party would be canceled. The staff reassured me that they know the area well and that their location is protected from the wind. They were absolutely right--the wind died down, and the weather ended up being perfect! The fields are huge, and the picnic areas have plenty of tables, shade, and space for larger groups. We had more than enough room for our party, and everyone was comfortable. My son had the best birthday, and I couldn't be happier that we chose Combat Paintball Zone.
