I'm sharing one critical failure so others can make an informed decision about AccentCare hospice in Los Angeles. My daughter has stage 4 ovarian cancer and began hospice with AccentCare three weeks ago. Hospice is supposed to provide comfort. In our case, it did not. Her pain was severe and constant, and despite multiple medications (methadone, morphine, and Dilaudid), it was not controlled. When we reached out to AccentCare for help. In return, we received a text stating she was being given too much medication. This was NOT the case. Instructions had been followed to the letter. That kind of inaccurate, alarmist communication created confusion and unnecessary distress during a critical time. A fentanyl patch was later added, but there was no significant change, so the fentanyl dose was tripled. Again no significant change. As the treatment was not working, and my daughter was not at all comfortable, we changed providers. The new RN immediately identified what had been missed: due to her extreme weight loss and lack of body fat, fentanyl patches were not effective--this kind of deficiency is a well documented issue with fentanyl patches. He changed the regimen, removed the patch, and the improvement was immediate--her pain decreased and she was finally able to rest comfortably. The whole point of hospice is to provide comfort and manage pain. You don't get one without the other. AccentCare failed on both. read more

Do not have them take care of your loved one. They are very insensitive to the family. My first contact with them was awful! I chose a much better hospice agency who understands and offers the support we need through this very difficult time. Please go somewhere else. read more

After 3 weeks never saw or spoke to doc. They would not qualify me with a life ending condition and 3 people flat out lied or took my words out of context making me seem like a controlling bitch. No way. Plenty others way better. read more

The hospital my father was in recommended Seasons Hospice once he was diagnosed with Multiple Myeloma due to his health being in poor condition to allow any cancer treatments. I was not given a choice of a Hospice to use or I would have selected another one in which I have had a positive experience with. (Note to anyone reading this. The medical power of attorney or family has the right to select the hospice company and can change at anytime if they are unsatisfied). I reached out to my hospice Director Leslie (in Colorado) and expresses my concerns with the care my was was not receiving. Part was on the community and part on Hospice. The community nurse told me that she has never seen a nurse or CNA visit my father and I brought this up to Leslie. She asked me for my fathers information (after I already provided) and said she shows that a nurse has visited every week since he was release. Why didn't the community nurse know this? Apparently there was a log on site that needed to be completed. No one from Seasons signed in. So was Medicare billed for services that were not provided? Don't know. Leslie said she would add a note in my dads file for a phone call to me after each visit and that no CNA's had been requested. Really! Most generally a hospice company send out a CNA for at least one visit per week to assist the community with any extra needs. This never happened and still is not happening. After six weeks, I have not received a call after the hospice visits and I contact Leslie again. Two weeks later I spoke with Leslie and wanted to know how to transfer to another hospice company. I got the run around. She wanted to talk about what was happening. She couldn't even recall our conversation from six weeks ago. She asked for my dads information, confirmed he was getting visits, and that there was a note in my file to contact me. That's well and good, but I never received any calls other then from the Chaplin. He was the only contact I had with Seasons. I was livid at this point. I don't want to talk about it anymore! I wanted to transfer hospice service. She told me that the new hospice would need to contact them the the transfer information. I told her she was fired! I was done. In the middle of our conversation I received another call I had to take. I told her I would care her back. I never did. Be careful about contracted hospice services. Some communities will tell you that they contract with a certain hospice and other hospices will need approval to come into the community if you don't select the. Don't believe it! You have the right to choose!!! read more

Seasons Hospice was great. We were not sure who we could entrust the well-being of my father to. We were nervous about leaving the Kaiser family that my dad had belonged to for probably 60 years or more. We were worried about indifference and substandard care and being ignored while Medicare was billed for services that we weren't getting. And we wanted my dad to have the option of a physician assisted death... to be able to decide for himself when enough was enough. Seasons was great. From my first conversations with Samantha (Sam) to conversations with Vada, Alexandria (Alex) and Dr. Naghdechi. And Evan was great... he showed up, cell phone in hand, to facilitate Facetime conversations between doctors and my dad and, like the rest of the Seasons team, showed both promptness and compassion every step of the way. The coordination of everything from initial consultation to admission to bed/equipment delivery to drug deliveries to nurse visits and over-the-phone doctor interviews... all done during a pandemic... was almost as seamless as if being coordinated by NASA. The follow-up after my dad passed away, just as impressive. Having a loved one navigate the end game is tough... there are enough emotions already in the mix... you don't need a hospice provider that makes matter worse! Thanks, Seasons! Seasons Hospice just helped me and my mother through a very difficult, painful and stressful time with sensitivity and sincerity as she battled lung cancer for the third and final time. The Aide Esther is a gem. She was so careful and tender with my delicate mother as Esther helped me bathe and dress her. Everyone at Seasons was great and a big help, even if I didn't make use of all. A special thank you goes to the LVN Arman who literally ran up two flights of stairs so he could help me and my mother as she passed and right after. The respect he showed for her and me was unanticipated but greatly appreciated. Although I wish I wouldn't have had any need for hospice services, Seasons has a wonderful team to support both the patient and the family with genuine caring and sympathy. I also am working with Seasons hospice with my aunt in Woodland Hills. Although it's a mostly different team, they are also professional and are also very trustworthy, and respectful. read more

I wanted to like and depend on this company that was recommended by Cedars-Sinai. Unfortunately, not all of their representatives are familiar or can effectively communicate about the strict policies for hospice care consent and authorization for Medicare. My family wasted two solid months with this company's rep before we were told, "oh yeah - apologies - forgot to tell you that if you continue chemotherapy, you will not be eligible for any of our services"... Totally Unprofessional and Unacceptable. Will be using ROZE for any future hospice needs. read more

I have nothing good to say about the people that work or this company. The only good thing I can say is that they seemed to organize the equipment to be at the right place and on time. The after hours call number is a bunch of people in the midwest that have no clue about your person. The admin people couldn't care less. Not one person contacted me to say they were sorry -- just the basic thing that one can do. This company is a shame. Mom was 88 years old and had late stage dementia. She passed away last week (Feb 2, 2017). Her last 6 weeks of life were with Season's Hospice. Please stay away from this hospice, they are horrible. I regret signing on with them. I was mom's sole caregiver and kept her at home (I moved in with her when my sister passed away in early December 2016). I really needed help! First, they kept changing nurses every one to two weeks (and they visited mom once a week). Every new nurse had no idea of my mom's past or condition. I had to fill them in on our status. You don't get to build a rapport with anyone and they really don't care. Second, in the entire 6 weeks that we were with this hospice, we NEVER saw a doctor. I requested that we see a doctor several times to get mom's anxiety in order, but it never happened. Each time, the nurse would say that they will talk to a doctor and get his opinion on proper meds. Why can't we talk to the doctor directly??? A doctor may have additional questions or concerns that the nurse may not know about. Third, nurses never follow through. They may recommend various meds for anxiety or sleeping, but they never get back to you. On many occasions, we were told of several drugs that could help mom. They claimed that they will get an approval and order it through their pharmacy. After they left, we didn't hear from them nor receive anything. On my mom's last day, I started giving her morphine (.25mg every 2 hours). A nurse visited in the morning per my request (it was her weekly visit). She said mom probably had a few more hours left (it was obvious that it was mom's last day due to her breathing). Nurse said she would visit again later. No one else ever showed up. No one ever called from hospice to see how we were doing. It was just mom and I as I watched her hands and feet turn black. She was very slowly dying in front of my eyes. At 10:00 pm, I called the hospice and asked them if I could increase the morphine dosage to help her pass away and was told no. I argued with the nurse for 1/2 hour about this. During this phone call, mom passed away. Why was I arguing about medication dosage with a nurse? Why wasn't this dealt with a doctor? When my sister passed away due to a brain aneurysm 6 weeks prior to mom, she was taken off life support at the hospital and then given morphine (she was declared brain dead). The morphine dosage was increased once per hour until she stopped breathing. Sister was 54 and had strong lungs. The palliative doctor at the hospital said she may breath on her own for weeks/months before passing. They increase morphine to help with potential suffering and quicken her passing (she passed within 7 hours instead of weeks due to increasing dose of morphine). I questioned the hospice nurse as to why this wasn't being done for mom. She said this is illegal! So a hospice would rather keep a patient alive and suffering while on their death bed???? I absolutely hate Season's Hospice. There is no caring or compassion. It seems like they are understaffed. Probably purely motivated by keeping costs down and profits. Search for a non-profit hospice if you desire hospice service. I learned this lesson through mom's suffering. Please don't allow their initial sales pitch to fool you. After the salesperson leaves, it's a whole different world. read more

Our dear wife, mother, & friend Linda was on Season's Hospice for 5 months! They went to every effort & expense to give her an excellent Hospice care. I should know because I am a Retired Hospice nurse. I was very aware & observant of the level of care & compassion that was shown by everyone we encountered. The RN, bath nurse, & pharmacy deliveries were timely & professional. Linda died with dignity & pain free from a rare cancer in her lungs & abdomen which had closed off her bowels. I can not begin to warn people about Seasons Hospice. They put up a pretty good front but when it comes to show time they fail miserably. My wife lost her kidney function due to diabetes and had been on dialysis for almost 4 yrs. She had suffered thru many medical issues, amputations, heart surgery etc. When she began to lose her ability to stand or walk she made the decision to stop her dialysis. I did everything in my power to convince her I was there for the long haul to take care of her, but she was unwavering in her decision. She said quality of life was gone. This is when our nightmare began. Our renal team suggested Seasons, so assuming the recommendation was a good one, we made that choice. All started out ok, (not knowing what to expect, and never being in this position). We where assured of medications to make her comfortable and pain free. Their support for the on set administration of those medications was vague and confusing to the point that I had to have a sitting nurses write out instructions. Tools were of poor quality as markings on applicators wore off quickly. Making dosages hard to administer. Remember I am not a nurse or doctor. So names etc. where confusing. As my wife began to fail they put her on what they consider continuous care. They assured me that there would be a nurse with us to help and support us through the overwhelming events to follow. This did not happen. On the first night to start continuous care, I was called 45 minutes before someone was to be there, that no one was coming and I was on my own. I was upset and exhausted and questioned their support. The kicker was, 2 days later, the day my beautiful wife passed. Again I was called minutes before a nurse was to come, that no one was coming. That day was the most horrific day of my life. No one explained to me what to fully expect. I was was scared and alone by my wife's side when she passed. I was told I would not be alone, but I was. I broke down and was lost and confused. It took 2 hrs for a Seasons nurse to get to our home to pronounce. The nurse came with a bereavement person, whom I asked to leave. I told the nurse, if you could not be here to support me when I needed you most, I'll be damn if I need you now. I consider my self a strong person but at a time like this, my strength was lost and all I asked was to be 100% supported through the most difficult time of my life. I was promised and those promises were broken, along with my heart. read more

I felt the need to tell you what happened with my x husband who was under the care of Seasons Hospice. They were very eager to help us and get us signed on with them in the beginning. And actually they were very good until we asked to have the doctor sign a release for my x to go the dentist and have dentures put in his mouth. They came to the home and took blood from my x. A few days later the social worker stopped by the day I had surgery and spoke to my x. She informed us that they were discharging him as a patient in three days. He is in remission and no longer needs a hospice group. I called there office the next day wanting clarification on what she said and I had tons of questions. They said they will have the social worker call me back. I waited and waited no call. I called a second time and they said they will have her call me. I asked the person who answered the phone what is going on. She said Mark doesn't need a hospice his in remission. They will have a social worker call me. Again she never called. The next day on a Saturday I noticed my x was very confused and disorientated. I called Seasons 6 different times looking for advice. The phone rang and rang not once did they pick up the phone. I thought that was odd due to they always picked up the phone after the 2nd ring. I took Mark to Irvine Hoag emergency room where they ran a serious of test. They had to put him in restraints. They said he was very sick and they are admitting him in to the hospital. I explained to them what season's hospice told me and discharged him a day ago. They were puzzled and thought that was odd and also from a blood test you can tell if someone is in remission. They wanted to know why they didn't see he had a major urinary tract infection and his heart rate was 30 then would go back to regular, then 30 then regular. This was very alarming and I was embarrassed to tell them they never mentioned this to us. The doctor seemed upset about that. Mark was sent to the 5th floor and was there for two nights and three days. I tried called Seasons and they won't speak with me. Mark is dying and is extremely hurt and feels used by this company who claims that they cared about him. He is more nervous than ever now in regards to any hospice group that is out there due to the horrible treatment this company gave their patience with no respect at all for their patient who they made thousands of dollars on from his health insurance. It's all about the money with these people trust me! Unbelievable the lack of respect they have shown Mark and myself when we felt alone and scared. read more

Really disgusted with the way he handled my father's death he showed up to the house I ended up having to call the funeral home and he was a robot and looked like we had disturbed him from some other important business. He told me I needed to call the funeral home to prepare my father to be picked up. I called them and broke down on the phone and they told me that I shouldn't be making the call and that the Hospice care attendant had to authorize the pick up and that it should have been him that made the call. He was cold and asked if we give permission for him to leave. Someone like that should NEVER BE IM CHARGE OF DEALING WITH GRIEVING FAMILIES . If this was your loved one I guarantee that you would be as disgusted as we are with how he handles the situation. I want a call back immediately as I find it hard to believe that someone like this is still the first point of contact after someone has died. Repeatedly saying that this is protocol when I was just asking questions and acting like this was a major inconvenience is NOT OK . Disgusting. read more

First off, my father died in Season's hospice care three years ago, and these nurses have a special place in heaven. I have enrolled my mother recently under Season's care and I receive several calls a day updating me and offering me support. they are AMAZING! From the moment we walked in our family was treated with respect, kindness, and the kind of nurturing care that you hope for your loved ones in their final days or hours. In hospice there is one chance to get it correct. Last Saturday 1/23/2021 we were called in by the hospice nurse (Lori) at 10:38 pm that my Dad's breathing has changed and we should come in and we did. At 12:05am the nurse said nobody is responding to give last rights and that the paper she had was old from October 2020. We had a social worker call us in his room and ask how we are ( are you kidding me). The nurse was asked if his meds could be switched to morphine and within 6 minutes she stated the Dr said no. We were told hospice is not a over night visit and if breathing didn't change by 2am we had to leave. My sister asked her death is imminent and she said yes and our response was you are making us leave and she said yes. At 3:38 am we got another call staying breathing was slowing down at 4:05 when we arrived he already passed and the nurse came to the room 15 minutes later for time of death which was 20 minutes after he got back again. Last right were given at the funeral home at 12:45 pm 1/24/2021. This nurse and seasons took something from us and we are struggling because of it. This company doesn't even deserve one star but I had to give one star in order to post this...this company came to my home not once but twice with tons of promises that they never come through with. The first time in our meeting they told us all kinds of stuff that sounds nice and fluffy and then at the very end they throw in something negative that they never bothered to bring up the whole two hours during the meeting. Then they waste our time a second time aftet we decided to go with them after all 4 months later, they come in yesterday with two different ladies with a whole slew of promises of how they operate and care ( care, Hahaha. Right!?!?) and all this crap, meet my invalid brother, then they turn around and lie to the insurance company Regal insurance ...
