During one of the most difficult times in my life, Opal Cremation Services of Greater Los Angeles…read moreprovided an experience that was truly compassionate, seamless, and professional. My mother passed away two months ago, and navigating everything that comes with that loss felt overwhelming. From the very beginning, their team made the entire process feel straightforward and manageable. They were incredibly respectful, responsive, and handled every detail with care and dignity. One thing that really stood out to me was their pricing. Everything was clearly laid out upfront, all-inclusive, and exactly as quoted--no hidden fees, no surprise add-ons. After dealing with other companies where costs kept creeping up, this level of transparency was such a relief. It allowed us to focus on honoring my mom instead of worrying about unexpected expenses. What stood out most overall was how easy they made everything during such an emotional time. There was no confusion, no added stress--just clear communication and genuine support when it mattered most. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend Opal Cremation Services of Greater Los Angeles to anyone going through this process. They truly bring peace of mind when you need it the most.

I would highly recommend. I called a few other places and they weren't nearly as kind or attentive. Opal was a tiny bit more expensive but completely worth it. You get what you pay for.

My mother wished to be cremated and so our family turned to Bastian and Perrott because of their…read moregood reviews. But, they let us down. Before a body can be cremated, the cause of death needs to be reported by the doctor and it needs to be registered with the county. My mother died on a Friday afternoon at a board and care facility where she had just entered hospice. I was at the facility along with the hospice nurse during my call to Bastian and Perrott. The hospice nurse and I provided all the information Bastian and Perrott required, including the name of the hospice doctor and his phone number. The hospice nurse assured me the hospice doctor was very responsive and would be available the following Monday (day #3). That Wednesday (day #5), I met with Bob to pick out an urn, get an update and pay. My mother had not been cremated and was told they were still working through the paperwork. I was reassured there was still time for my mother to be cremated--I could pick up her ashes on Saturday for her Sunday (day #9) offsite funeral. Bob said he would call me the next day. I was busy with the funeral arrangements Thursday morning and forgot about Bob until he called that afternoon (day #6). He still did not have the cause of death report, the key factor for cremation to proceed, and was waiting for my mother's regular doctor to respond. I asked why the hospice doctor wasn't involved and why did Bastian and Perrott wait so long to notify me of the delay. Bob explained that they didn't want to bother the family during this stressful time. I told him that I was much more upset now--because it was too late and now impossible to get my mother's ashes to her funeral--than I would have been if he let me know Tuesday or when we met the day before when there was still time. After I got off the phone with Bob, I immediately called the hospice agency. They took care of the cause of death report with the hospice doctor in 1 1/2 hours. They also told me that no one at Bastian and Perrott had ever faxed them the form that the hospice doctor needed to complete. When I called Bastian and Perrott the next day, Friday (day #7), they said they had the doctor's information and now needed to register with LA County. Basically, as soon as the hospice doctor, who they were originally directed to, got involved, the cremation process moved forward very quickly. To further emphasize this, my mother's ashes were ready for pick-up on Tuesday (day #10), three days after the hospice got involved. If Bastian and Perrott had contacted the hospice doctor as they had been directed, or even by day #4/5, my mother's ashes could have been ready for her funeral service. I was extremely disappointed with Bastian and Perrott. They dropped the ball, dithered for over 3 1/2 days, thereby making it impossible for my mother's ashes to be present at her funeral. Instead of responding with sensitivity and real help during an especially sad time, Bastian and Perrott contributed further to our family's distress and pain.

The best decision was to use Neptune for his final resting place. The Loving Memory services were perfect. The staff were perfect. I strongly recommend Neptune

I'm writing this because no family should ever have to go through what we did with Neptune Society…read more Losing a loved one is already painful, but what happened after we trusted them with our mother made everything so much harder. The only thing they did right was picking her up. After that, everything fell apart. They got her name wrong. They got our wishes wrong. We had to correct mistake after mistake while grieving and trying to hold ourselves together. We were told her cremation would be in North Hollywood. That turned out to be completely false. We only discovered through paperwork that they planned to send her to a facility in East LA. The building itself wasn't run down, but the entire area around it was covered in graffiti, with homeless encampments lining the street. It looked more like an auto repair shop than a crematory, with a garage‑style door open and a single chimney stack. Standing there, looking at the surroundings, I felt sick. This was not dignity. This was not respect. This was not where my mother -- or anyone's loved one -- should be sent. We refused to let that happen. We demanded she be cremated at a proper facility -- the cemetery in North Hollywood, where we thought she was going in the first place. At least there we could witness her entering the chamber alone. Of course Neptune Society wanted more money for that, even though their mistake caused the situation. We paid it because we needed to know she was treated with the dignity she deserved. And then came the death certificates. We have been waiting almost two years. I made dozens of calls. No one called back. No one helped. A new manager apologized and said she'd fix everything, then told me I'd have to go downtown myself because "too much time passed." She promised a refund and said a check would be mailed the next day. It's been almost three weeks -- still no check. Corporate saw our complaints and still didn't resolve anything. We trusted Neptune Society with our mother. They failed her, and they failed us. I'm not exaggerating, and I'm not attacking them -- I'm sharing our personal experience so other families know what we went through. I wish we had never trusted this company. Follow‑Up: Neptune Society finally responded and said they want to mail me a refund check. That check doesn't solve anything. I don't need a check -- I need the death certificates that were paid for almost two years ago. Their incompetence caused this entire situation, and now they expect me to lose time and money going downtown myself to fix their mistakes. I told them exactly what they can do with that check: either provide the death certificates immediately or pay me for the time and wages I will now have to lose because they didn't do their job. After two years of waiting, I'm still dealing with their failures.
