I'm writing this because no family should ever have to go through what we did with Neptune Society. Losing a loved one is already painful, but what happened after we trusted them with our mother made everything so much harder. The only thing they did right was picking her up. After that, everything fell apart. They got her name wrong. They got our wishes wrong. We had to correct mistake after mistake while grieving and trying to hold ourselves together. We were told her cremation would be in North Hollywood. That turned out to be completely false. We only discovered through paperwork that they planned to send her to a facility in East LA. The building itself wasn't run down, but the entire area around it was covered in graffiti, with homeless encampments lining the street. It looked more like an auto repair shop than a crematory, with a garage‑style door open and a single chimney stack. Standing there, looking at the surroundings, I felt sick. This was not dignity. This was not respect. This was not where my mother -- or anyone's loved one -- should be sent. We refused to let that happen. We demanded she be cremated at a proper facility -- the cemetery in North Hollywood, where we thought she was going in the first place. At least there we could witness her entering the chamber alone. Of course Neptune Society wanted more money for that, even though their mistake caused the situation. We paid it because we needed to know she was treated with the dignity she deserved. And then came the death certificates. We have been waiting almost two years. I made dozens of calls. No one called back. No one helped. A new manager apologized and said she'd fix everything, then told me I'd have to go downtown myself because "too much time passed." She promised a refund and said a check would be mailed the next day. It's been almost three weeks -- still no check. Corporate saw our complaints and still didn't resolve anything. We trusted Neptune Society with our mother. They failed her, and they failed us. I'm not exaggerating, and I'm not attacking them -- I'm sharing our personal experience so other families know what we went through. I wish we had never trusted this company. Follow‑Up: Neptune Society finally responded and said they want to mail me a refund check. That check doesn't solve anything. I don't need a check -- I need the death certificates that were paid for almost two years ago. Their incompetence caused this entire situation, and now they expect me to lose time and money going downtown myself to fix their mistakes. I told them exactly what they can do with that check: either provide the death certificates immediately or pay me for the time and wages I will now have to lose because they didn't do their job. After two years of waiting, I'm still dealing with their failures. read more

I can't thank the manager, Holly enough for what she did for me and my sister. My Mom passed away suddenly. She was our everything. We literally had no idea where to go or what to do. While planning my estate matters, I contacted Neptune for information related to final expenses. Instead of answering my few questions, I got the impression that I was talking with a used car salesman. My questions were ignored but my information was hurriedly asked for as well telling me to buy prepaid services immediately "before the price increases". It was obvious that the person representing neptune was going to make a commission if I had made a purchase, which I did not. What a turn off considering the subject matter and the money questions plus high pressure to buy the prepaid services. read more

While preparing my estate documents I realized that I wanted cremation for myself when the time came. A couple of friends recommended the Neptune Society. They both commented on the beneficial guidance and support of the Neptune staff when their loved ones passed. So I returned one of their postcards and eventually made an appointment with Carmen at the Sherman Oaks office. My experience with Carmen was all positive. From our initial meeting to subsequent conversations, Carmen was well informed, patient and able to address my many questions and concerns. I learned that Neptune has a large number of services available, but I never felt pushed to buy anything I didn't need. I ended up purchasing the Traditional Plan, which provides the basic services with a few extras included. At around $3400, I see this prepayment as a great value. My family members are spread across the country. All reside out of state. I was concerned, when the time came, that they might be unable to travel on short notice, or even at all. As Carmen explained, from the moment that Neptune is informed of my passing they are there to handle everything. This includes transportation of the body, its preparation and storage, the acquisition of necessary permits and the cremation itself. Furthermore, they reach out to the family as soon as possible and take them step by step through the process. I especially appreciate that the process can proceed without the immediate, or even the eventual, physical presence of a next of kin. If necessary, all communications can occur over the phone and required signatures can be obtained via fax or email. Even though I purchased a plan with only the basic services, I understand that my family has every Neptune service available to it. And even the option to use another mortuary entirely - in which case Neptune will refund my prepayment of the Traditional Plan. The services that Neptune provides beyond what is included in my basic plan are many. They include a viewing of the body, a memorial service, a choice of scatterings for the ashes, a wide variety of urns, and much more. The prices are all given online and what I consider quite reasonable. I am comforted that my family will be able to do what ever comforts them. I am happy to be a member of the Neptune Society. My husband and I plus a dear friend of ours all signed up today for cremation with Gregory from the Sherman Oaks office. We had gone to a presentation and were impressed with the service. In addition my parents (who had passed 20 days apart) 10 years ago, had pre-need services planned and paid for. The service we received was perfect. I've read thru the reviews, and my heart breaks for the folks who didn't have a good experience. It is my deepest hope that when our time comes, my daughter has an equally good experience as I have had. Gregory came to our home and he is great, respected our wishes, not trying to upsell us and has a wonderful sense of humor. Unfortunately I have to revisit this review to correct what the "business owner" stated in their response. She stated that "It is our understanding that our team reached out to you in order to ease all of your concerns, and we regret that you continue to feel dissatisfied despite our efforts to correct the situation." This is simply not true. Nobody reached out to me to try to do any of that. This almost makes me seem like I was being difficult. Again it is completely untrue that anyone reached out to me. My sister in law had passed away. We went to the Neptune Society to have her remains cremated. The sales person we were assigned to was Chris Shields. Our experience was stressful to say the least and Chris shields did not help matters, he was unreliable and unresponsive. If you use this service I would avoid this location at all cost. The loss of a family member is hard enough but the lack of compassion and the uncertainty during this time did not help matters at all. read more

Wow, I'm so glad my parents had all of their arrangements made with Neptune Society! My Pops died, I contacted Neptune Society and they walked me through all the steps. Then when my mom died, it was the same deal! I was treated with so much sympathy and respect. They took care of everything. I'm also so happy they strictly follow HIPAA rules. I'm an RN and know the value of privacy. I don't understand the negative reviews I've read on Yelp. I have nothing but praise. Today, my wife and I have decided to sign up with Neptune Society, speciffically with the Sherman Oaks office. This will make my passing a lot easier for my kids, when I pass. read more

I definitely WOULD NOT recommend THIS location!!! The Fresno location on the other hand did a great job! Our mom passed a couple of years ago and the Fresno office handled everything seamlessly. This office however has had nothing but issues. The first and most important is their communication is a real problem. When they do respond they are extremely slow and full of excuses. To make a long story short on February 23rd it will be 5 months since our dad passed and unless his ashes were spread in the last two days ... see my point! Update: His ashes were spread on 2/19... now they either registered the wrong coordinates or they actually spread his ashes about 1000 miles off the shore of Portugal. Personally, I believe they meant to put 122° longitude and not 22°.. Between that and them listing his time of death off by 10 hours, and that still hasn't been corrected on his death certificate these folks just don't cut it. One of their major problems is they do not respond and they always have an excuse. I'm sorry I definitely would not recommend these folks at least at this location. read more

I was referred to Neptune Society and it was not a great experience. I worked with with a woman named Claire who called constantly, emailed and texted. Then when we finally confirmed it took WEEKS for them to get back to us about my brother was cremated. Only to find out that Claire had quit. So then I called multiple times to get some answers bc at this point it was 6 weeks with no word and a memorial about to take place. Since I got no response I then had to drive down to their office to see what was going on. They assured my everything was moving along. This should have only taken 3 weeks by the way. But still nothing. Called again saying I was going home for the memorial and we still didn't have the ashes. Finally someone brought them to me at my house. The plan was to initially have them sent to my sister but we had to change all this because Neptune couldn't get things done in a reasonable time. This is someone's loved one and they are really playing around with peoples feelings. For $3500 they need to do a lot better. read more

The messaging with Neptune Society is almost nonexistent. After my wife's death almost seven weeks ago, I have still received no word on whether cremation has occurred and whether the ashes have been scattered. We'd been told in a meeting four days after her death that we should receive a schedule and the death certificates within 7-10 days. I have called repeatedly, but I've always had to leave a message. Sometimes I receive no return call, and at other times the representative, Ulysses, simply has no information to give me. Neither Ulysses nor any supervisor ever seems to be available. I finally received the death certificates in the mail forty days after her death. But without information that Neptune has done its job regarding cremation and scattering of ashes, I've still had no closure regarding this difficult time! read more

First off when Ulysses Hidalgo from the Sherman Oaks, California office called me he came off being super rude. I asked him if there payment plans we could set up & his response was "NO". I told him I didnt have the full amount & he straight told me " I dont know what to tell you, use a credit card, barrow the cash, something but I'm gonna need it in full". That was a slap in the face, I mean come on. This place advertised as a affordable low cost solution. So the next day was a Friday & I met him at his office. We talk and he's using words like "fire", "burnt up"& "sweep up the ashes". So now at this point I'm so mad, I straight up told him its way to much,that he's point blank ripping me off. He comes back with its only $2,477. My wife tells him we'll be going with another place. So come Monday and this new place (SoCal) trys calling Ulysses, leaving voice mails, speaking with the receptionist all day to get no where with this guy. My wife calls up tells him what's going on this & that. So today Tuesday the 1st of July the new place calls us informing us that Ulysses Hidalgo has had my grandmother's remains transferred to the crematorium. So without our consent & him knowing we were going someplace else he went ahead and moved her. Why would he do that, who told him that it was okay to just do what he wanted, what was his intentions. This guy Ulysses Hidalgo from Neptune Society Sherman Oaks, California is straight up unprofessional, disrespectful, a low life, deserves nothing but bad juju. read more

This place is a rip off my dad had it all planned through here and this organization tries to make you spend more money on stuff you don't need . They are very unprofessional when it comes to the death certificates if there is a mistake on the working copy they still send it through to be certified and then you have to have it amended and you end up with pages and pages of a death certificate . They don't know how to use the computer systems they have set up and it is very hard to see the information on the TVs they use to show you what they are going over . They try to up sale you lose stuff after your loved one has passed . If you don't want to blow a lot of money stay clear of this place . read more

I am beyond disappointed in my experience with this location. The sales department did a fantastic job of getting the sale and Sophie was lovely. However, after a loved one passes, it's a different story and the family feels forgotten. The amount of miscommunication they have with the purchaser after a loved one passes is astounding!! There are countless times where something was not what we were orginally told. I am so upset with trying to plan a scattering and the misinformation. I asked to speak to a manager and they connected me with Chris. I have now written my 3rd email to him in the past two weeks about how incredible upset I am and also placed a phone call today. I have not heard anything!! I want to handle my own scattering and be done with this company. read more

We did the free lunch to learn about the Neptune Society services and it was a good experience. Gregory was honest, not pushy, and responsive. He answered all of our questions and shared his own experiences. He explained how everything would work and what our options were. The cost of using the Neptune Society seems much less than a 'regular' burial and it also felt like it would make it much easier on our children when we die. We feel like we got as much as possible taken care of for them and it is a peaceful feeling. Gregory helped us set everything up and did lots of things over the phone and possibly even dropped off things at our house when we asked for them. He gave us stellar service and we are very happy to have met him. He is also funny. :P read more

My mother passed 18 years ago and she went through the Neptune Society. At that time the process was smooth the staff from the person who answered the phone to the person who handed me her ashes was comforting, polite, everything a family could hope for. My dad just passed away July 1st and again the process was easy, everyone helpful and all questions anyone had was answered quickly. My dad died in a hospital unlike my mom who died at home. Both died on a weekend, and I learned those who pass at home get collected sane day, but if at a hospital or nursing home, and on the weekend, they may not be able to collect your family member until the following Monday. We had no issues with this and understood that in their own home must be collected first. I highly recommend the services and highly recommend the the office in Sherman oaks read more
