My parents have purchased their resting place and services here at San Fernando Mission Cemetery more than two decades ago. My beloved mom was diagnosed with cancer and within 6 months she passed. Estela Sanchez, one of the funeral directors that took care of all our family's needs were excellent from beginning to end. She took care of everything for my dad and our family. At the time of passing, the mortuary came to the house and collected my mom's body within two hours of her passing. They gave full care and consideration for other family members that arrived late early morning to say their proper farewell. Following the days before the services, mass and funeral we were contacted several times to inform us and remind us of the schedule. We had the pleasure of working with Deacon Johnson assisting the mass and taking care of the services for my beloved mom. Deacon Johnson from San Fernando Mission Cemetery also coordinated with our parish priest Father Lawerence to have the funeral mass for our beloved mom. We had the proper Catholic funeral mass. San Fernando Mission Cemetery even had the plaque ready for my beloved mom's resting place when they said it would be. Thankful for the care, consideration and kindness San Fernando Mission Cemetery provided my dad and our family during services, funeral and mass for our beloved mom. We know her remains lay safe in her resting spot at San Fernando Mission Cemetery. She is in eternal rest in the loving arms of God in Heaven. We love and miss you so much mom. +++

Unfortunately, the cemetery staff failed to replace the flower vase after the burial. My husband was buried alongside his sister, and the vase that had previously been in place was never returned. I went to the cemetery office and was assured that someone would be sent immediately to resolve the issue. After waiting 30 minutes with no response, I called the office again because the flowers I had purchased were expensive and beginning to wilt in the heat. During that call, the staff member I spoke with appeared to have difficulty understanding the situation despite my explaining it multiple times. After I repeated the issue for a third time, she accused me of "screaming" at her, which was simply untrue. I do not scream or yell; I was firm, clear, and concise. It was evident that she did not fully understand my request, and although she attempted to reassure me, each time she restated the situation, her understanding was incorrect. When I asked to speak with a supervisor, she hung up on me. This occurred at approximately 9:45 a.m., and she had stated that she had only recently arrived at the office. The interaction was both upsetting and unprofessional during an already difficult and emotional time. In addition, I received two different price quotes for the same service--a basic grave opening and closing. The inconsistent pricing, combined with poor communication between the cemetery and my mortuary, created unnecessary confusion and frustration throughout the process. The only time I felt communication was prompt and attentive was when payment was being collected. Whether intentional or not, it seemed that once payment had been secured, customer service became a much lower priority. Regardless, I expected a far higher standard of care, communication, and professionalism during such a sensitive and emotional experience. My husband's parents are also buried at this cemetery. During this visit, I discovered that their flower vase was buried approximately six inches underground. Fortunately, a friend had a shovel available, but this raised additional concerns that maintenance issues and service requests are not being properly addressed. Due to the poor communication, inconsistent information, lack of professionalism, and apparent neglect of maintenance concerns, I will not be choosing this cemetery for my own future interment. Given the circumstances, I cannot recommend this cemetery to others and hope management takes meaningful steps to improve its level of service and care for grieving families.

Absolutely everyone we spoke with at Anubis was very considerate and very accommodating. It was the Friday before Memorial Day so it took a while to get to Orange County. They carefully transferred my Mom to their vehicle. They were very responsive to all of our questions and really made the whole process much easier than I thought it would be. We really appreciated that as we were still trying to process our Mom's passing. They're the best! They arranged a meeting point midway between Glendale and where we lived in Orange County to transfer our urns to us. I highly, highly recommend Anubis. They really made a difficult time easier because of their excellent care of our Mom.

After the pickup we were told that a representative would reach out to us the following day so we could start making arrangements. They didn't call till 3 days later even after leaving them multiple messages! Imagine not knowing what's happening to your loved one or where they are located after they died. Our assigned rep only called AFTER I switched to Anubis Cremations and had arrangements for the body to be brought to their facilities. Wesleigh was so easy to work with. She picked up my call right away and took care of everything. She communicated every step of the way. I told her that my uncle who is a priest will be arriving in 2 weeks and we would like for the cremation and memorial service to happen while he was here. She mentioned that it's a very tight schedule but she would try to make it happen. And she 100% delivered!!! Within an hour of my initial call she had my auntie's body arranged for pickup, she sent paperwork to us and the doctor so she could start the process of filing the death certificate. The church where we wanted the memorial service wouldn't let us reserve a time till they had a cremation date. We were able to get the cremation date within a few days. We opted for a private open viewing at the crematory in Van Nuys. The crematory only does night time viewing which worked well for us since our family is busy working during the day. Wesleigh's coworker Jonathan took great care of us at the viewing. The place had a room for up to 15 people where family members could sit with the casket prior to the cremation. They dressed our auntie in her formal barong and jewelry. We were allowed to provide flowers, letters, and mementoes in the cardboard casket. Jonathan gave us sharpies so we could write notes on the casket. There were aslo tissues and an easel for our use. Although the viewing was technically 15 minutes, we were not rushed and were given about 20-25 minutes to do a prayer service and say our goodbyes. And then Jonathan and another employee wheeled her into the crematory. We watched them place her casket in the "oven" and once the door closed we left. They even allowed us to live stream the entire time we were there to our auntie's relatives back in the Philippines. The following day Wesleigh delivered the ashes to the church and she provided the letters and instructions we needed to bring the ashes back to the Philippines. We were also very happy with the urn we ordered from Anubis. It was engraved and had a photo of our auntie. It was perfect. I can't thank Wesleigh and Jonathan enough for providing an outstanding service that was stress-free, efficient, compassionate, and super professional during this difficult time of grief. I whole-heartedly recommend Annubis.

I mean, how many people really know what to do at that terribly emotional and shocking time? Utter McKinley in The Valley (Mission Hills, to be exact) had provided services for previous relatives, but that was quite a while ago. So, I called them. Besides getting a general price quote, I was told that, day or night, just give 'em a call and they'd pick up the body. Early last month, Mom passed away at a skilled nursing facility, just 2 days prior to her 90th birthday. When my Sister called me with the news, before I headed to the site, I found my UM notes. It was evening, but I called their number anyway, and a gentleman answered! He was on-call at a sister mortuary, but said he'd coordinate sending 2 Utter McKinley representatives to come for her. Sure enough, in a bit over an hour, the fellows arrived (they were in Pasadena at the time) and took Mom back to the mortuary. In a matter of days, we met with Erick--one of the amazing Arrangements Counselors at UM. From the moment my Sister and I sat down with him, he was compassionate, professional, and kind. He made great suggestions, and helped us make decisions (there were a lot of them); and, at no time pressured us into a particular purchase. Last week, we had her funeral. When I told him my buddy put together a Celebration of Life video tribute, he said to email it to him. He burned a DVD, and we played it after the eulogy and other speeches. Such a kind offer, and the family/guests loved it. Once everything concluded, Erick accompanied the hearse and family to the cemetery. Oh, an additional shoutout to Kayla--also one of the Utter McKinley Arrangements Counselors. She did Mom's makeup, and her artistry was amazing. Many guests commented on how natural and at peace Mom looked. A historical note: The mortuary has been serving families at the Mission Hills location (corner of San Fernando Mission Boulevard and Columbus Avenue, across from the San Fernando Mission Hills Cemetery) since 1962! Prior to that, UM was located on Sunset Boulevard in Hollywood from the mid-30s through the 50s. My point is, this mortuary has been around for nearly 100 years. They do things right. When you lose a loved one, put your trust in Utter McKinley.
