Wonderful people with amazing patient care and the ONLY endodontist in the state of Maine who honors Medicare insurance plans. Dr. Bonnie Retamozo saved my front tooth taking the chance on a re-treatment of a 40 yr old root canal that had 2 infected posts she was able to remove painlessly with crown intact. I called Access at 10:00 May 3, 2022 and they had me come in at 2:00 same day. By the time I got there they knew exactly what insurance covered, all of it except for gum scan, did exrays, clearly explaining what her goal was, what may happen, and the cost if crown did fall off during the procedure. Front tooth did have a brand new crown done in AZ on 10/20/2021 so of course I wanted to try and save it. Even if crown did fall off while drilling through the back of it she said she'd still be able to remove posts and infected area. Whatever you do don't go to Aspen Dental in Biddeford as their office is all about the money, scheduling multiple visits for care that is normally done all in one visit as they want me to come in for Exray and consult then schedule another office visit before doing cleaning which isn't the norm but how they can bill out for extra unnecessary nickel and diming office visits, not patient care, and they just wanted to extract tooth after Dr. Laura Oakes recommended I see an endodontist which their office has yet they wouldn't even let him look at. Dr. Retamozo successfully drilled through crown removing 2 ancient posts and infection all within 2 hours. Please tell everyone you know that a dentist is supposed to try and save our teeth not extract because that's all "they" can do, and give Access a call first. I am astonished by how sincerely compassionate, kind, truly caring, cost effective, accommodating staff is, and the outstanding knowledge, patience, professionalism, and overall personality of Dr. Retamozo. Root canals aren't exactly pleasant experiences. A prior root canal, performed elsewhere about five years ago, had to be abandoned when a previously undetected crack was discovered. I bring this up for a reason: a comparison between the two experiences. First, the Access Endodontics staff is top notch--pleasant, competent, understanding. Second, the equipment and procedures are very rapidly improving. Better imaging techniques, more comfortable ways of doing the work, better tools. Most important, by far, is the sense that the endodontist is fully in control of this rather complex procedure. Dr. Sprague, aided by an excellent assistant who anticipated his every need, worked steadily and smoothly. He was calm and precise, almost relaxed. Both of them did an excellent job defraying anxiety. Compared to the prior root canal in another state, this was a much more tolerable experience--more attention given to making the patient comfortable and free of pain. I felt like I was in such competent hands, that instead of simply waiting for it to be over, I could try to figure out exactly what they were doing. I had lots of questions at the end, patiently answered. I won't say I enjoyed the experience, but I enjoyed the professionalism of the people there. When I have to get the next root canal--and given my number of cavities, there WILL be a next one--I will go back without a moment's hesitation. read more

Just the thought of having a root canal was overwhelming. When my family dentist suggested Access Endodontics, I was skeptical but willing to follow my dentist's recommendation. It proved to be a very good decision. From the moment we entered the office we were impressed with the surroundings, and the office staff were friendly and the Doctor and his assistant worked together like a well tuned instrument. State of the art equipment, the most comfortable chair I've ever been in at a dental office, in a relaxed, no rush atmosphere. I can't say enough about the comfort provided, the ease of the procedure, and the calm and confident manner that Dr. Sprague performed the procedure, at all times explaining what he was doing and why. Quite probably the best dental experience I've ever had. If a root canal and dental procedures are high on your list of fears, forget it and relax. Dr. Sprague and his team have their act down pat. I was referred to a local Endodonist by my dentist when I have a toothache that responded to antibiotics but was not readily apparent which tooth caused the pain. Access Endodontics was 'in network' for my insurance and close to work. When I came in for the appointment with Dr. Sprague, I found the office clean, professionally staffed by caring interested people and very welcoming. Dr. Sprague and his assistants were great. They explained all the procedures that they were using, the equipment, what I would be feeling as they went through all the steps of the root canal procedure. Dr, Sprague explained what I would feel and hear as he used each different tool through out the process. They had a large display on the wall to show me the different xrays they took while they discussed what the images showed that concerned them from every possible angle. They have the modern tools, a great staff, and a great leader in Dr. Sprague. I have had several root canal procedures over the years, this practice gets highest marks from me. i must say the prospect of having to have a root canal was was daunting , i imagined pain like little shop of horrers pain, with a psychotic doctor just drilling and laughing at my pain. Though going to access i was pleasantly surprised , the doctor and assistant that dealt with me were very professional and attentive, i fell asleep during one of the procedures. i have to go back in year for a check up on the work , im very pleased with the outcome. they saved my tooth and it didnt hurt one bit , not unpleasant at all, look forward to going back. read more

Would give 6/5 if I could! I needed an emergency root canal that I needed desperately... I was in so much pain, and they were able to fit in me last minute the next day. They were able to assess the situation, and then perform the root canal right then. I had never been in before as a patient, but everyone there made sure I was comfortable and understood what was going on I appreciated their kindness and urgency. I needed to have two root canals done that I was extremely anxious about. Everyone was super welcoming and friendly, which made the experience a lot better. Dr. Sprague was very intelligent, thorough, and made me feel very relaxed and comfortable.
