The Good and the Bad... I am giving this review a 5-start rating only because the good far outweighed the bad... GOOD Ophthalmic Medical Eye Tech Tim...he was exceptional! He was patient, kind, personable, and so dedicated. He took the time to understand my particular issues and concerns and answered my questions and explained things in a way that made sense. Dr. Tadrus...he was so nice, focused, and attentive to my specific medical needs and gave thorough guidance and recommendations for my care. Ophthalmic Assistant Stephanie...she was friendly, efficient, and proficient in her job. BAD Front Desk Male Receptionist...rude, abrupt and condescending. Call/Appointment Scheduler Resceptionist: Unfamiliar with basic services/exam components offered by the doctors. It required me asking to speak to an ophthalmic tech to ensure I would be getting all the specific exams/tests necessary for my particular issue. read more

I been coming here for years always been willing to work with me. this time it wasn't the case at all. when I tried to make an appt I was getting passed around from person to person. placed on hold for while: eventually hanging up and just going to an office to make an appt since I was in the area. so they gave me the earliest appt where I had to drive an hour away for. I get there check in. the tech asked if i was wearing my cintact now I said no my glasses are on. so there was problem one right there. did some of the exam. was place in another room where the lights were turned off and waiting for 5-10 mins in the dark look'ing at the four walls. so I decided to play on my phone. Dr Biscombe came in. I looked up then looked back down at phone: Dr biscombe then was like do we have a proble. I'm like no I'm trying to get this appt with over and my contacts that's it. I just received a bill from them dated 5/10/2021. I left a message for a manger to call me about this and the conversation did not go well. I then called back so I could speak to the practice manager, Michelle, and they said she was not available. I asked to leave a message for her to call me back and t said they couldn't because "she wouldn't be available for a very long time". Just left there with my 2 daughters because the receptionist rudely stated only one could be seen today due to paperwork. I never received a text or email for any of that. I've checked my phone, junk mail boxes and etc. I suggested seeing the later appointment while I completed the paperwork for the one daughter and the receptionist still refused. Mind you, the waiting room was filled with people and we're not new patients so I'm sure it could've been completed in a couple of minutes. I then go to ask for my daughters glasses that should've been ready and weeks ago after the original pair lenses came in too small and was told oh they're here and there's a not that someone called. That's a lie! I keep my phone on me at all times and no one has called me from there in over 6 weeks Michelle. Took nearly 6 weeks and repeated visits to get prescription corrected after initial prescription was very off (apparently due to dilating eyes during exam). Was told to continue to wear glasses even though causing nausea and headaches so eyes could "adjust." Charged for 2 year warranty on glasses that I specifically declined. Have been wearing glasses for 25 years and have never had an experience this bad. read more

I visited Access Eye 9/4/18, and they were not sure if they accepted my insurance. I was told by Lewis that I had to pay in advance, before I was seen- Which I did, and after my appointment, if after attempting to process my insurance, it went through, I would be refunded. After my appt, I was told my insurance did not go through, no refund, and I was paid in full- I even waited to make sure nothing was owed. Flash forward to last week, and I get a summons for a warrant in debt for $280, with a court date the following week 8/5 which I could not make due to work commitments. The biggest kicker- The glasses I got were too strong, I went back to make sure the prescription was filled correctly at Target, they said yes, I went back to Access, they said I had to adjust to them- So I was out everything.... The DR was great, when you get to the glasses side it all changes. I know it's all a business, you're supposed to help the patients find what they need. That includes finding lower cost options, I understand you're on commission but when I tell you I need to start from the bottom and work my way up then that's what you should do. When I get the feeling you won't help us explore all of our options, even the ones that don't pay you very well (insurance covers) then we'll get glasses somewhere else. read more

I always have great experiences with the doctors of Access eye. Their staff is always helpful when i need adjustment with my glasses. I was going to go out of town and my frame broke. Luckily i had spare frame. Andrew swapped the lenses and put them in my another frame in 10 minutes and i felt so...good. i strongly recommend Access eye care for the people who are looking for a good eye doctor. read more

I had an emergency corneal abrasion, and Dr. Mansouri was the most knowledgeable, compassionate doctor. He provided immediate relief and finally diagnosed a condition that had been overlooked by every other doctor I saw. The entire team was professional, caring, and helpful. My family will be switching to this practice, and I would highly recommend them. They also did an incredible job with infection control because of COVID-19. Was due to get lasik here had to cancel 2 days before due to their lack of communication and professionalism and fact that it seemed they were just winging the entire process. These are my eyes, can't necessarily grow them back if you mess them up! Originally had my first appointment on 8/4. Everything went well but systems were down and they were going to call me schedule my in depth eye appt. didn't hear from them for 2 weeks. Once I did the next appointment they had was not till 10/15. At that appointment they were 40 min late at seeing me. Which is a 2 hour appointment. Then we schedule my lasik appointment. I went to pick up my prescription and one was missing. I had to call to the office to ask why. Apparently one of the doctors, my doctor, couldn't prescribe that particular medicine...um ok... so they were going to try and "squeeze" me in with a tell appointment with the other doctor so he could prescribe it. Then I hear nothing. Then get a call 3 days before my appointment, "oh yea we need to do that" we will get that done the day before you surgery" as if nobody as a job and can pick a prescription last minute. For all the money I am paying, I should not be squeezed in, I should jot be calling to figure out why I don't have everything and my doctor should be able to do all he needs to do before I trust him with my eyes. This seems like a quick and dirty job and they don't have their stuff together. Maybe their in the business of taking peoples money for pre appointments then not following through, cause their definitely not on the business of taking care of their patients. read more

The staff at the Plank Road Location of Access Eye leaves a lot to be desired. They cannot get their scheduling straight; changed appointment three times because of changing policies on their end. Was berated for not wearing a mask exactly as they required. Dr. Mansouri was fine, but his administrative staff (Heather and Marissa in particular) were quite rude and told me incorrect information on more than one occassion. Will never go to the Plank Road location again. read more

The organization for handling the Virus guidelines seemed to work well and still be efficient. The Dr was thorough as I remember and the admin staff was easy to work with. I needed an extra copy of my prescription and they took care of that after I came back in. I was gone for a year with different insurance, but now I have one they take and I am glad to be back. I saw Dr. Testa today for my routine eye exam, and as always everyone was absolutely amazing! The call center staff, the receptionist, all of the technicians, and Dr. Testa himself were all great as always! I love how all of their Optometrists are trained to the highest of their specificity, which most are not, and that there are Ophthalmologists and a licensed Hearing Instrument Specialist on site so that if I did have any major underlying issues I was not aware of, then I am in the right place to have them taken care of! Saw some poor reviews of this office before I went, but now wonder if I was at the same place. Everyone was pleasant, helpful and professional. I was seen by someone even before I had finished my paperwork! Dr. Mansouri was awesome. All of the other team members, from the front desk, to the evaluators, were wonderful. I would recommend this office to anyone! My only slight criticism would be the location, which cannot be seen from Plank Road, and requires a U-turn to get into the parking lot behind the Japanese Steakhouse. Absolutely fantastic service and care every time I visit (thrice over three years). All doctors tend to be delayed the later in the day it is, so I always come early and the wait time is nil. Full care can take up to two hours (four rooms) and even though that sounds long, it shows an exceptional effective care ethic. read more

We had an appointment Saturday. The receptionist was very nice, the assistant that walked through everything initially with us was so great with my 6 year old. He had a lot of questions and she was exceptional. The doctor, Dr. Testa was fine, quick and to the point. The sales people were lacking for sure. We were not acknowledged for several minutes. Once I was not interested in the $340 children's glasses and asked for his prescription, the tone changed quickly. I would go again, but leave after the eye exam. read more

This practice is one of the worst when it comes to integrity and customer service. I brought my elderly mother in to have an exam and get new glasses. Long story short, they sold her an extra 100.00 worth of unnecessary options for her new glasses. When I found this out and tried to stop the order (literally placed at 530 on a Friday and I returned at 9am on a Saturday) I was told she had signed a contract (even though we apparently had 24 hours to cancel) and it was too late. I brought this to the attention of the office manager and she gave me a long explanation as to why this couldn't be changed. This practice operates like a factory without a lot of proper training of their employees. There's plenty of good talent in Fredericksburg and we will never return. read more

On December 28th 2019 I had my eye exam at access eye 4516 Plank Rd, Fredericksburg, VA 22407. I had Dr. Christopher Testa which I love as an eye Dr. and had a good working relationship with. It was determined I needed to get a slightly stronger prescription for glasses. So I was asked to meet with the glasses part of access eye, I told them I was unsure if I was going to get glasses there, they said it was ok but let's measure your Pupillary distance (PD) and pick out a pair of glasses and we will place it in my file (Later on found out not medical file but optics file). I left and did not buy any glasses. On January 9th, 2020 I went back in to get a copy of my Prescription, I noticed there was no PD # on the prescription. I asked the front desk for it and was told I could not have it, I insisted as it was a measurement just like blood pressure, oxygen level, or pulse. They had me talk with optics which also stated the same thing. I then talked to Lisa Walker who is the branch manager of the Access Eye on Plank road. Lisa Walker stated they have talked with their lawyers and they are in their legal right to withhold Pupillary distance (PD) from a patient because it is technically not a medical record. I stated that it was and Lisa state I must go to the state if I am going to try to get the record but she assured me that her lawyers would handle it. I called Va department of health (they only handle hospitals, senior care homes, & home health aids), I talked with Va department of Health professions (They only handle licensed professionals & since my doctor was not the holder of record nothing they could do), I finally went to the states attorney general office and although this does fall under their purview they can only act as a mediator with no real penalties or true rulings. Access eye on Plank road ultimately gave me my Pupillary distance (PD). On January 23rd, 2020 I received a letter to dismiss me as a patient, because I asked what was in my view a medical record, and now I have to lose my doctor as a punitive measure. read more

Terrible Customer Service/Aquia Office We are a family of 5 and have been loyal customers for almost 6 solid years. We all either wear contacts or glasses and have never missed an appointment and we have always been customers in good standing. The doctors and technicians have always been great but the management issues cannot be ignored. I decided to make an appointment using the online option on their website back in December. I had never used it before and didn't know at the time was how they notify you with your appointment - and I missed it by mistake. I called to explain what had happened and they said they would look into waiving the fee (they charged me a $50 missed appointment fee and obviously I was upset as it was an honest mistake.) I've emailed and called for the past SIX months to try to resolve this issue explaining my mistake - well they gave me their answer, they sent me to COLLECTIONS. Thanks for nothing, Access Eye. I guess they don't really care about their customers. They said they treat every missed appointment the same regardless of the reason and everyone gets charged. I guess even if I was dead I'd be charged. Nice. We are customers NO MORE. Don't waste your time with a company who treats everyone like a number and could CARE LESS about their customers as people. read more

My family and myself have been patients at this office for close to four years. The subpar level of customer service and professionalism I experienced at this office today has deterred me from ever coming back. Backstory on my life is that up until February I was employed with the federal gov't and lost my insurance when I was unexpectedly let go. I had no choice but to get state assistance until I get fully back on my feet. The level of service I've experienced when I had Blue Cross vs Medicaid is unreal. I've spent lots of money at this office and never had a problem until today. I had 3 appts for myself and children and Dr Halepaska & Mrs. Diane are phenomenal but the front office staff Danielle and Lisa need some help. I was initially unaware of the contact fitting fee for today and was asking to be billed because I wouldn't have the money until next week. Danielle went to the back to get Lisa who was beyond rude to me and came out confrontational from the beginning. She repeated that she wouldn't go back and forth with me as if I wanted an argument. I just wanted justification or an actual cost because the paper I rush signed says 75-90. I only said to Danielle was that we never had a conversation about it, because we didn't and she goes to get Lisa. I never raised my voice or anything , I even told Lisa when she came that I didn't ask for a manager. I acknowledge rushing through the forms this afternoon because I was rushing to ensure my appointment started on time and that part is my fault. I had already had my appt pushed back from my morning appt because we arrived almost 15 mins late so only my children were seen. They pretended to look over my file to compare my current prescription with my old prescription to see why I was charged a fee if my prescription hadn't changed because I told them it was the same for every appointment. She asked for the form, which I gave her and then told me because I couldn't pay for the fitting fee, I couldn't take my prescription out the office with a smirk on her face. The fact that Lisa pretended like she was trying to help me only to do a 180 and change her whole tone from that point was appalling to me. I would have gladly given it to her if she had asked but the "tricks" were uncalled for. In the past when I didn't have Medicaid, the same fitting fee was charged and refunded to me because it was covered under insurance. I understand that this is a business first(clearly) but I never thought after years of loyalty and money spent here that I'd be treated the way I was today. As a Lyft/Uber driver, I've dropped off people here on multiple separate occasions and was told they treat Medicaid recipients as second class citizens and always boasted about my experiences and disagreed with them. I see today as I'm in the same situation that they were right all along and it's sad. I feel as if they looked at my insurance and made up their minds that I was uneducated and beneath them and that came across very clear from Lisa more than anything. read more

If I could give zero stars I would! Avoid Access Eye!! The only thing they care about is selling over priced glasses; the health & well being of the patient is bottom of their list. On top of that, their policy on eyeglass prescription rechecks is absurd! I literally spent months asking for a prescription recheck, only to continually be told I had to go through their optical shop. The optical shop would tell me they weren't doctors. This went round and around. I finally had to pay out of pocket to have a recheck done elsewhere. I then spent months fighting with Access Eye to get proper glasses made. They are incredibly difficult to deal with; have inaccurate records; and never did get it right. read more

Took my child to see one of their doctors who "specialize" in children. It was for a regular eye exam. We were told that my child only needed glasses for school work but something didn't seem right since the prescription we were given seemed high to me. They also pushed these insanely over priced glasses for a child who only needed them part time. I decided to take my child for a second opinion and thank god I did. My child's new doctor stressed the importance of wearing glasses full time due to the prescription and if left uncorrected it could develop into an eye turn. Access eye is only about money and poor care. We also got the exact same Rayban frame and lenses for nearly half the price at my child's new doctor. Never going back there and I'll make sure to steer my friends elsewhere as well. read more
