    Helical pier ...
    Rick B.

First the backstory: We put a small room addition on our home 20 years ago. The room addition was built on a 4' crawl space foundation, while the older main house it butted up to had an 8' standard basement foundation. Over the years with the freeze/thaw in the ground, compounded by the dryness in recent years which shrinks the soil, the room addition was sinking ever so slightly at the end farthest from the main house ... 20 feet away. Sum and substance, the far end of the dining room had sunk about 1" causing it to pull away slightly from the main house at the roof line. We got five quotes to repair what had happened. Acculevel did the work to earn the job. The field agent for Acculevel (Dan) was excellent; he took his time and really went over the room addition in detail. He agreed with what the problem was and proposed a series of six helical piers on the exterior to stabilize the room and possibly lift it back up. His analysis was so thorough that he also found a foundation crack inside the crawl space that needed repair. Only one of the other firms that quoted on the job went to the effort Dan did. We decided to go with Acculevel. Acculevel was willing to negotiate some of the language on the contract, and this made it fair to both parties. They originally wanted 50% down, but since the job wasn't to be done until six months later in the Spring and they only needed to do permit work and an engineering report, we agreed to 25% down ... with the other 25% when we received a copy of the permit and engineering report. Very reasonable by all parties. Hint: Always read the contract ... because what's in there is for you and them. When the day came to do the job, the two employees they sent out ... Ricardo and Orlando ... were also tip-top. They worked hard and long hours, hand dug all the pits for the piers, set the piers in place and called it a day ... it was a 10-hour day not counting their travel time. The second day they screwed the piers into the ground (a couple were screwed in 17'), mounted the foundation brackets (essentially large heavy duty "L"-shaped brackets), and used bottle jacks to ratchet the brackets up firmly against the footing. After jacking the room up almost back to perfect, they back-filled, tamped, and replaced all the landscaping that had been disturbed. In the end, the room was stabilized and lifted back up to approximately where it had been before sinking. We did not see any wallboard cracks in the interior of the room, which is a small risk you run when you jack the room back up. As the contract stated, the work performed was warranted to stabilize the room, but not guaranteed to lift it back up. We were very happy with how it turned out. If we had to nit-pick anything, it would be dealing with the home office back in Rossville, Indiana. They are often hard to get a hold of ... you end up leaving messages and hoping for a return call. Acculevel serves six or so states and have been growing very fast, so they get some slack in this area. But we were so satisfied with the work and the result ... especially the field agent Dan and the workers Ricardo and Orlando ... we wouldn't hesitate to recommend them.

Highly disreputable. Lied about submitting permits. I cancelled work and have disputed all charges. Downright fraudulent behavior!

What a blessing that I contacted Swain Co. Mike Smith of the company inspected the issue proposed a fix that included a drainage system and sump pump. He also assured me that they could take care what ever issue they may find down there. His estimate was very reasonable. The work started when they said it would. WHAT A WEIGHT LIFTED FROM MY SHOULDERS. When the three man crew arrived and introduced themselves and the supervisor outlined what they would be doing and when they expected to complete the job. The supervisor, Efrain, and Salvador and Eddie gave me confidence I was in great hands. Now this is something you hardly ever hear anyone say anymore; but I have never seen three men work so hard and professionally as those three did. Efrain kept me totally abreast of the progress with before and after videos. I know I have restricted myself in the past to restaurant reviews as my wife and I are foodies. But I learned there are "artists" in other fields of work as well. Swain Co and their people are one class act as ND I would hghly recommend them for any crawl space, foundation or basement issues. You won't see them advertising on TV like other companies because they don't need to. Word of mouth by previous customer service have kept them very very busy.

Scheduled the work. The crew was again prompt in starting time. The lead and I discussed the job. There was a problem with the intake for my furnace, it a 3 inch PVC fitting. They didn't even consider moving it over 6 inches. That would make the window open properly. About a week later, the window leaked, caused water and mud to come in all over the newly laid flooring. The window was and still off by 1/2, this causes the window to not open. After my phone calls, especially to the manager, Jeremy. who ever had the balls to return my call, I ended up talking with the salesman "christian". He dragged the phone Conversations out for over 2 weeks. And still, the end result was no results. I contacted a local foundation contractor, he stated that the entire window was installed wrong. The installation included improper insulation, inadequate gravel, below the window and the window itself. I asked Christian to split the repair cost, estimated to be $5,000, he dragged his feet again, and No return calls from "Jeremy". After another week of waiting, Christian finally responded. Crossroads would fix "Their PROBLEM for another $6,200. He alsi stated that the company doesn't fix other vendors windows. He didn't tell me this until the disscussion and it was never discussed at the initial estimate meeting or by the crew. I have the picture they drew showing what was to be done but the manager said I was wrong. He told me he would send them back for $500. Seriously?? The picture shows the length of the repair job. 16.5 feet, I measured my area....16.5 feet. So the worst crack across the threshold of my porch is still there.

I had Basement Flood Protector out to my home in the spring of 2024 for a major waterproofing job…read moreon my personal residence. The job involved a full interior drain tile system and exterior dig/waterproofing on 2 sides of my home. I waited 2 summers before writing this review because the effectiveness of their work can really only be gauged over time. This week, we had torrential amounts of downpour that went on all night. Prior to the waterproofing, my basement would have had water seeping in from the block foundation walls, back basement door, and up through the cracks in my slab. I'm happy to report that my basement stayed completely dry. Since this job was done in April 2024, I've only had 1 instance of water. I immediately called Basement Flood Protector and, because their work has a 10-year warranty on the exterior and lifetime warranty on the interior, they came out and immediately remedied the situation. No water since. This was a big job that I did a ton of upfront research on and quoted 3 other big/well-known waterproofing companies. The reason I went with Basement Flood Protectors was: 1) Sales Process: John was my contact at Basement Flood Protector. He did not put on the big sales pitch and presentation I got from 2 of the other companies. He was straight shooting and was clearly the expert in waterproofing, not just a sales person. 2) Responsiveness: Basement Flood Protector answered all my follow-up questions and concerns whereas other companies seemed to dance around some questions. As an example, when asking one of the other big competitors the cost for an exterior dig, rather than saying it's not work they do (or want to do) the sales person verbally quoted me some unrealistic/high number. Another major company completely ghosted after I called/emailed 3+ times to try and speak to someone about moving forward with the job (feel like I dodged a bullet there). 3) The price: They were notably better-priced for the work I wanted done. Hope this review helps someone as waterproofing can be intimidating. I had an excellent experience with Basement Flood Protector.

About six years ago, they installed my backup sump pump, and just this week, they replaced my main sump pump. Both installations were seamless and hassle-free. I never felt like they were overcharging for their services. They were transparent and upfront about everything. I've had the pleasure of speaking to Dan a few times, and each interaction has left me even more impressed. If you're looking for reliable and trustworthy service, give them a call.
