I want to thank Ethan, the service manager, for taking the time out of his busy day to personally call me and explain the company's position regarding my review. I appreciate the effort to clarify the misunderstanding. According to Ethan, the business does not require payment upfront. Instead, the text we received was a pre-approval link meant to inform us of the potential cost following a diagnostic. Unfortunately, this wasn't clearly communicated during my original call with Lou. If he had mentioned that we'd receive a text requiring approval before any work could be done--and that payment would only be due after the diagnostic--I would not have left a one-star review. From a customer's perspective, receiving a $200+ link without prior explanation understandably creates the impression that payment is required in advance. This was a clear miscommunication, and I'm willing to chalk it up as such. That said, I strongly recommend the business makes this process more transparent in future calls. Customers should be clearly told: 1. They will receive a text with a pre-approval link. 2. No payment is due until after the diagnostic is complete. In today's climate, transparency is critical, and many customers--like myself--may feel uneasy approving charges before their vehicle has even been seen. I had a 9am appointment to get an oil an filter change. I arrived on time and left my car there for the service. I called later in the day to find out when it would be ready but no response or call back. Decided to go see for myself at around 3:30. They have a strange location. In order to get to the office and waiting room you have to climb up a hill of wobbly wooden steps. when I went back to check I went to the back of the building where the shop is, my car was not ready. I went to the edge of the garage to get the status and was told I have to go to the front office which meant climbing the hill again. That is a physical problem for me. Windshield wipers I just replaced, exhaust clamps that I had put on myself, and engine mounts that were "basically non existent". Speaking of the exhaust clamps when I got the truck back I heard rattling from the undercarriage, rattling that I have never heard before and i've been working on this truck for months (replacing the catalytic converter, changing the starter, etc.) When I asked the mechanic what that rattling was the best thing he could do was say "I'm not sure" give me my keys and walk away. When I got under the truck to tighten the clamp myself (Which for some reason was $25 when I can get it for $7 from autozone) The manager came out and gave me some excuse about expanding and shrinking. Since I've retightened that clamp it hasn't budged again in months or made a squeak. The wait was long but that was expected due to it being a vehicle inspection. Overall my visit was .5 stars out of 5. The only saving grace was the front desk employee who was a pretty nice guy. But my reasoning for writing this comes after having two friends go to this shop and also get outrageous numbers, one got $6,000 in repairs after inspection and another got quoted a $1,300 brake job just for the front. He initially did body work to my car, which I was VERY happy with, but just days later, my splash shield light came on, then my check engine. So I took my car back shortly after, and Eddie said he did the diagnostics for free. He then charged me for an oil change (that I didn't need at the time). This mechanic shop is attached to the Stevens Forrest Exxon, located just off of Rt. 29 and Broken Land Parkway in Columbia MD (not far from my home). Due to their proximity to my house, I stopped in there to service my Ford Explorer about two years ago. They replaced the serpentine belt and damaged my vehicle by forcing too much refrigerant into the system. I discovered this once I took it to another shop, and they told me that whomever worked on my serpentine belt, damaged the system. With that bad experience behind me and needing a state inspection for a different vehicle, last week (03/16/26) I figured this would be a quick in and out process. They advised that it would take approximately two hours to complete and they would contact me. After four hours, I called them for an update. They advised that my 2023 Jeep Grand Cherokee had failed the state inspection because of its windshield tint and faulty rear windshield wiper. I was shocked at what they said was the cause of the failure, but I literally laughed out loud when they said that the repairs would cost over $600. I kept my composure as I advised them I was headed back to their mechanic shop to retrieve my vehicle. This experience cost me $150 Since this vehicle is a work vehicle, I took it directly to a Jeep Dealership in nearby Clarksburg MD for them to perform the state inspection. They did advise that the tint would need to come off due to state inspection regulations, but they advised that my rear windshield wiper was functioning just fine. Now I am not sure what occurred for the rear windshield wiper to "fail" at their location, but function perfectly fine and "pass" the next morning at dealership. Also, Auto Obsession lists tinting as one of their services, so I would believe they could have simply offered to take the tint off my two front windows. I am still clueless on the faulty rear windshield wipe scam they attempted to run on me. In conclusion, I have had two unpleasant experiences with this location, and I would not recommend anyone utilizing their mechanic shop services. I will share pictures of both state inspection receipts to show what Auto Obsession claimed was a failure vs what the Jeep dealership performed to pass the same state inspection.

I started with the obligatory MD safety inspections on two vehicles, one of which failed due to a minor windshield crack (that I didn't even know existed until I saw the picture). They managed to get it sent out for a new windshield with calibration and it was back the next morning! Tia is fantastic to work with! I will happily be coming back for all my work!
