Efficiently snaked the drain and got the water draining again. He cracked the 2" drain nut that secured the drain pipe to the p-trap. Did not have a replacement. Tried to fix it with plumbers putty with no success. I did not have a replacement in my arsenal. Called his boss and asked if I could buy one and install it myself. I agreed as by now he had been on the the job for 2 hours. He changed me the 2 hour rate and no discount for the broken nut or compensation for my time and money to fix his mistake. Very pleasant young man but he should have had replacement parts on board and not wasted time trying to fix something that couldn't be fixed and gone out himself to buy the part and replace it.

With a reasonable cost, I had him put in the primary and back-up pumps. After that, I had the confidence to finish my basement as a recreation room. After 8 years, my primary pump died. (This was the time in spring of 2026 when everywhere there was flooding in Wisconsin.) Thank goodness I had put in that hydro-powered back-up. . If I hadn't had the back-up, my entire basement would have been ruined! Even though I could have gone days with out adding a new primary pump, Don was there the next day! Now we are discussing replacing a toilet upstairs and installing a new bathroom in the basement. The quotes so far sound like something I could do.
