Wonderful customer service at this Ace from all associates,but especially Zach who went out of his way to help me with my flag.

I prefer to shop at Ace when I can. For one thing it's close and convenient. For another, those giant hardware places, while they do have more selection, funnel your money into places that I don't want to support. Plus, your supporting the local community. It's a win-win. I stop in here whenever I need something in a pinch. Closet light burned out? Need to hang a gifted photo? Doing some yard work? This is a good one stop shop for any house project. Plus it's not the size of a football field (again, less selection is really my only criticism) so you can get in and out with what you need quickly. Around this season I'm mostly working on my yard and garden. I stopped in to grab some garden soil on sale, it saved me about 4 bucks a bag compared to the competition. It's all outside so you tell them what you want inside and they look it up, you pay, then you head back out to grab your items. They help you load your car if you need it as well. Excellent service from Starr at the register, she found the numbers and sales for everything I was buying. The young gentleman who helped me load my car was great too. It's nice to see professional hardworking kids with big smiles. I've had keys made here, I've had a window screen repaired as well. Never had any problems. This Ace is near my house. I do a lot of DIY projects. There's a man at the back desk with a mustache. Anytime I need good advice, I hope he's there. Always helps me find exactly what I need for my project. I didn't look at his name tag but he's helped me multiple times over the years. read more

Lost my business. A warning to all who plan to have equipment serviced here. Dropped off my EGO snowblower for repairs. Was told I would be called to approve repairs before work was done. Next call was to let me know repairs were complete and I owed $375. I told them I did not approve the repairs... after doing circles with them on why this wasn't my issue, they finally agreed to return the snowblower to its original condition. They called to let me know it's was ready to pickup, came in and was shown my snowblower with cables hanging out of it. I asked that it at least be put back together and again told somehow this was my fault and that it should not matter if it was not put together as it was already broken... sorry, but what? Asked to talk to the manager and that discussion illustrated what is wrong with this store. Greeted with a frustrated "what's up" and all down hill from there. Excuses and frankly lies from that point. Man, I hate leaving these types of reviews but as I left completely frustrated I thought I would at least warn others, last time I ever step foot in this store... customer beware. I have to commend Rich and the Exec leadership team at this Ace as their response to this review has been nothing short of incredible! I received and outreach within 45 minutes of this post and an honest and urgent focus on understanding the issues that occurred and desire to make them right! Repeated poor service. On initial visit, only after paperwork was all completed, was told TWO WEEKS for an on-site window screen repair -- "we'll call you when it's ready." Three months later finally comes a text that it's completed. Plastic corners were supposed to be replaced with metal, but weren't. Corners broke immediately during re-installation. Manager "Zak" listened by phone but made no effort to say "please bring it in, we'll make it right," instead only stating he'd give the counter person a pep talk but "doesn't know who it was" (but never asked who). This place used to be busy and give consistently great service. Looks like those days are gone. read more

I really love this store! It is the same Ace Hardware feel from my childhood. And I love the small town feel of the employees there. They are not quite employees, more like neighbors you can get advice from. Endless aisles of everything you could even imagine allow even the most fledgling DIY-er to get lost in ambition! I find it hard to just grab what I came in for and leave. I mean who doesn't need a flashlight with a built in whistle for their keys? And a video doorbell? And tools to put it in yourself! Down the rabbit hole... Today's trip was a quick search for Boy Scout uniform for my daughter who will be joining her brother in thr quest for Eagle scout. Not only did an employee help me find the shirt but he also reminded me of a few other items I forgot. Plus I have to go back for the materials to build my own wind chime... (See, the rabbit hole...) I got to spend a few minutes in a large store that felt like a blast from the past. When customer service mattered... sigh... the good ole days! read more

You gotta like a neighborhood hardware store. But I stop at "like." It's a nice enough place to dodge in a grab some fasteners, a can of paint -- you know, emergency supplies. But you have to be ready to pay extra for the convenience. Sometimes, a lot extra. Up to three times extra on some items. The floor staff and service staff are professionals and are knowledgeable and helpful on a reliable basis. Cashiers are a little hit-and-miss, but I suspect they rotate out more than the rest of the crew. It's to be expected. But even as the big box home improvement centers gain more and more ground in the area (new Home Depot, new Lowe's) the mom-n-pop hardware store retains some charm for a McGyver-ish kinda guy like me. 5 times out of 10 I'm not buying something to use it within its original design parameters. I need weird stuff like a huge variety of compression springs and odd tubing by the foot. No, the local Ace doesn't sell five pounds of decking screws for as cheap as Menard's. But Menard's has to hit the middle of the road, not odd weekend tinkerer's like me and some of my neighbors. Yeah, I see 'em there at the Ace, poking through the novelty hardware bins that Home Depot wouldn't touch... we exchange the quick nods due to our bretheren and then head for the check-out, convinced that this time, we've found what we need. I can say I shopped there today in need of a rental item. I was not happy at all with the service. I rental the item for the day. when I brought it back I saw if I rented the ace brand it was a lot cheaper. When I went to the store they never told me different pricing. I brought the machine back in 3 hours because it was working for my needs. I asked the manager if they could give me the different price because it was brought back so soon and since they had no other in stock I had to use this one. The manage was extremely rude. I will NEVER shop at this store again. I will also make sure my family and friends never go in there for anything. read more

I am sad to have to write this review, but after 4 separate trips to this store to have my snowblower fixed, they have failed again. Every time I pick it up they say it runs just fine, they even showed me once (ran it for a few minutes). However, every time I try to use it, after 10-15 minutes of warm-up and one pass down my driveway, it starts up and down revving like it can't get enough fuel to stay running, then finally dies. I have no confidence to take it back. Anyone know of a good small engine repair shop that can get it right!? read more

The folks at this store are always wonderful, knowledgeable and attentive. From the cashiers to the floor specialists they have always been great! I am particularly impressed the the motor repair center. Ted repaired my older model Echo backpack blower and now it works like it was brand new! He took the time to explain the fix and was wonderful! I have brought several items to them over the years and they have not let me down. Ace is the Place! I love small hardware stores. I received friendly service over the phone and once I came in, i was greeted the same. Candy waited on me and was happy to help me lift my lawn mover out of my car. The technician looked at the mover right away and gave me a price. Candy helped me with looking at snow blowers and was very helpful and knowledgeable on the product. I love going to this store ever since I was a little kid . Like any other day I went to see what they had for sale. I really just came in to buy a pack of light bulbs. I came across a 36 pallet greenhouse kit and saw the sale price of $599 originally $8.99. When I went to the register it rang up the original price so I asked the cashier if it was still on sale, he didn't know so he called a gentleman that worked in that department. When he came back he said the sale was over and it was no longer $5.99. I asked him if the sign was still up can you honor that price and he said no sorry. I'm a manager at a major retail company and if I or my fellow employees have left the sign up we would have honor that price. I'm so disappointed that they did not honor it because it was not my fault the price was not change back or the sign was not taken down. It does seem to happen a lot here as I'm reading more testimonials. I hope they do A better job of watching their sale prices , and taking them down week after week because that's how the big box stores get their business. read more

I used to go here all the time, but no more. We were just in there looking for storage boxes. I tried to get the attention of 2 different staff just to point me in the right direction. Needed a window screen corner piece and plumbing supplies. Called the store to explain what I was looking for. Told we have many screen corners and the rep did not seem interested in listening to what I needed. Drove :25 minutes, walk in and I had to search for someone to show me the isle the screen corners were located. The store had ONE screen corner but in three different colors. Strike One. Off to the plumbing section and no help in sight. Went to paint center and asked to have a rep meet me in plumbing. 5 minutes later and no one showed. Strike Two. Went to front of store to speak with manager. Manager called. Over 5 minutes later no one showed and no one said manager was busy or what??? Strike Three. Complete waste of my time and total lack of customer service. I wish my True Value hardware store was still open. I never experienced anything like this there. the guy who works there named pat is a jerk. I went in and asked him what kind of wrench I need to unhook my gas dryer gas line from the wall, he said "you need to know exactly what kind of wrench you need" well man, I need a wrench to unhook my gas line from he wall (I'm pretty much clueless about that kind of stuff). you're supposed to know the rest pat, that's why you work at a hardware store. guess I'll go find what I need at menards or one of those big box stores. read more

I needed a used snow thrower in good condition and know this store repairs and refurbishes small engine equipment. The first time I went in to look there were only two available and they were too large. I explained to the gentleman who was helping me, Ted, why I needed a fairly inexpensive snow thrower as soon as possible. He wrote down my name and number and said he'd keep an eye open for me, but was honest and let me know it wasn't often that one came in with what I needed and what I had to spend. A few days later I saw one being sold by a private party, who thankfully was willing to let me bring it to Ted look at it. He went over everything, showed me what was broken/missing, and explained how those affected the machine. He saved me from losing the $200.00 I would have paid! I was so disappointed the machine was worthless, but SO thankful Ted had been willing to check it out for me! I was shocked and ecstatic when Ted called the NEXT day to say a used snow thrower had just come in, he'd checked it out and it was exactly what I needed! I felt like Santa had brought me the only 'toy' I'd wanted my whole life! LOL That wasn't the first time I'd shopped at that store, and of course won't be the last. There's always a staff member asking if I need help with anything, and they don't tell me where it's at - they lead me there and then ask if I have any questions! Went to Ace Hardware (60073) and noticed 5 employees inside that either had their face masks not covering their nose or not covering their nose or mouth. One customer was at the register with nothing covering her face. She stepped behind the counter, shoulder to shoulder with the cashier, messed with the register, then went back to her side of the counter. The customer was done with her transaction and put a face mask on to go outside. We were next to use the counter she just breathed over and touched on. Not good. Then another employee started using the register next to ours. She only had a mask covering her mouth, nose totally exposed. We informed her that to make the mask effective it should really be covering her nose. The employee stated, "I understand." She then went on to check out an elderly customer without correcting her mask and providing a safer environment for the patrons. This store's employees obviously don't care much about doing their part during this COVID 19 pandemic to best protect themselves or others. I rarely go to this store, but will limit my exposure there to zero because I am not going back. read more

Visited this store to day July 15, 2017 to pick up my screen. As me and my husband approached the service area there was a customer being waited on to have keys made. We stood behind an waited. The guy behind the counter took the key and the customer said thank you and walked away. Great, our turn, turn in ticket, receive screen, pay and we are on our way. NOPE! The guy behind the counter stood there, at the counter where we were standing right in front of him, comparing keys, ignoring us.So my husband said "Hi, we are her to pick up our screen". The guy just looked at us and said ok, and proceeded to walk away and make the keys for the other customer who had walked away and was not there. He did not acknowledge us, say hi, tell us to wait a moment, NOTHING! We proceeded to wait as we needed the screen. When he finally finished the key's (about 10 minutes later) he came back to the counter, where we were still standing (the customer for the keys was nowhere to be found) and proceeded to slowly put the key's in a bag. Then he looked up like he was looking for the customer and shrugged his shoulders and put the keys to the side. Finally, he acknowledged us by saying "what do you need". Mind you, we already told him. So my husband repeated and gave him the ticket. The guy went and got our screen (took not even 2 minutes) and just handed it to us without saying a word. So my husband asked do we just take it up front to pay and he said yes and walked away. Very rude and we will never be back. There is no reason he could not have grabbed our screen before making the keys for the customer who was not even there anymore!!! I understand the other customer was there first, but he walked away and did not come back the entire time we were there. We used to frequent this Ace,but never again! read more

I can't believe that it takes 4 weeks to repair a lawn mower here at Round Lake Ace! This repair shop has gone down hill since January! Nobody knows what they are doing! They need more help around that shop! I know this owner has 7 locations that send there units over to Round lake to get repaired and there turn around time is all different! One store says 18 days, One says 4 weeks, one says 2-3 weeks, one says 3 weeks, one says 1 week, one is says 4.5 weeks and one says 2.5 weeks! You call Round lake and they say 14-15 Days! I went down the street to Russo's Power Equipment and they fixed my mower in 2 day! This is the place to go! read more
