No Return or Refund on Defective Used Product From Ace Hardware Silver Lake, WA (AG-Supply Wenatchee) I bought a Christmas tree that was open-box and on display, but still paid full price. Before I arrived to pick it up, the store took it apart without asking me, and assured me it was in "working condition." Once I got home and set it up, I discovered the entire top section doesn't light up. Clearly something went wrong either during disassembly or they never verified it worked after. I contacted the store immediately asking for a return or refund. The store manager claimed they didn't have any return policies. Just recently, a regional manager denied my request completely... This feels incredibly dishonest -- selling a used display item at full price, disassembling it without consent, and then refusing to take responsibility when it's defective. Absolutely incompetent!! Was passing through Seattle and grabbed a 5 pack of Recteq grill liners ($17.99) and a few other things. Didn't realize until I got home that they charged me $44.95 (my fault for not noticing). Not wanting to go all the way back to the Seattle store, I went to the local Silver Lake store and asked if I could return it. The disheveled guy at the front counter said "Ace Hardware doesn't carry Recteq. Only Traeger." I showed him my receipt that says Ace Hardware at the top and again he told me Ace doesn't carry Recteq. I showed him that they have 6 of them in stock at his Silver Lake store and he said "Those are only in Snohomish County." WTF? I told him we are in Snohomish County and he replied "Well, you've stumped me." I couldn't process how dumb this conversation was. All I could do was walk out and leave with my $44.95 pack of tin foil liners and hope I was being pranked on some kind of TV show. read more

I don't even know where to begin. I've been frequenting this Ace location since it opened under previous ownership (Gary). Spent lots of $, first name basis with the staff. Ever since the new owners came in the staff has changed completely minus two people. The quality of staff there is abysmal. Getting any sort of help is tough let alone knowledgeable help. The kid up front now can do only one task and has an absolutely poor attitude. Similar to the rest of the staff. They've run the quality employees out of that location. Pricing is higher than ever. Selection is no longer hard to find items. If you want a great location the Ace in Mukilteo or the one on Evergreen are amazing. I think they've picked up a few of the great and knowledgeable employees from Silverlake as well. Bottom line if you want an overpriced Stanley water bottle, a $32 drill bit, .89 cent 1/2" washer and a junior employee with no experience talking down to you this is your place!! Sorry Ace (AG supply) but after this many years you won't be seeing me much anymore. Unfortunately the blue and orange will be getting that business. I hate to say it but at this point I'm really rooting for this location to go under. If you can't manage staff, pricing and basics like customer service you don't deserve to remain in business. Having a house filled with boys has its perks my husband and son LOVE being outside repairing, planting, and grilling. Now that our beautiful summer & fall has ended and we're in our grey Seattle days the boys find ways to keep themselves occupied with creating projects to do inside; Ace Hardware has been their go to!!! Ace has one of the best ordering online and is also much smaller in size compared to the other hardware stores making it much easier for them to navigate. Went there to check out a Stihl Chainsaw. I asked an older guy at the key counter if he could unlock it so I could see how heavy it was. His response with an attitude and no apparent desire to help me was that the weight is on the tag. I knew that but have an injured shoulder and told him I wanted to see how heavy it was to see if I could manage it. His response to that was that you can't see weight you have to feel it. He apparently wasn't in the mood to sell a chainsaw and I wasn't in the mood to put up with him so I walked out. I've been shopping here for years and try to support local businesses. I bought a Stihl trimmer and blower here previously and like the Stihl products. Luckily this isn't the only place that sells them. I have no desire to return to this store anymore. read more

on sept 15 went in to buy 4 stihl items one being a new chain saw and a gutter cleaning kit. Neither were in stock needed to be order and had to pay upfront. two weeks go by no text or phone call. so i called them , was told they wouls look into it. was to get a phone in a few dayas. another week went by, nothing. i called again, was told they didnt know anything about it, was never order. At first they said they didn't know if the store did it, then they found out they did but the machine was down, and when I asked how much it would be, she had no idea and didn't know how to find out. Then they tell me they don't accept old batteries for recycling anymore, apparently there is new ownership. All the friendly old faces have slowly been disappearing and now its friendly but I wanted to drop off some things for sharpening and she took so long to look up the prices that I told her that I'm leaving because I have groceries in the car. I'm pretty familiar with hardware stores, and I'm not the biggest fan of Ace when I'm searching for a variety of items, as they tend to be small with limited choices. On the other hand, there's usually a friendly worker roaming around ready to help. This visit was no different. I walked in, a guy offered to help--but he didn't just tell me the aisle; he walked me to the aisle and looked for the item for me. The reason I give two stars off is because the lady with short hair at the register was horrible. She seemed agitated with everything, and when my $10.00 credit didn't work, she was ready to fold without trying anything new. And when I asked her to check out the person behind me while I waited for someone else to try, she was even more agitated and stated the other computer wasn't on. I didn't dare say turn it on or to void my order so she could use the computer that was still on, though those are clear options for the calm and rational. Luckily, another worker with more patience and creativity came over and figured it out. Bottom line: Stay away from the short-haired lady if you have a choice of clerks when checking out! read more

We just moved into the 98208 neighborhood and my visit to this Ace was a delight. Super-friendly staff and knowledgeable too! I had items to buy in plumbing, hardware and garden - and everyone I encountered knew exactly what I needed and where to find it. I like how the folks at Ace are attentive and knowledgeable. They don't rush you or avoid you. I was at a "big box" hardware store earlier in the day and their workers try at all costs to avoid eye contact. I went in to Ace hardware because the one in Mukilteo greats me right away asking if I need help. This one here, however is the worst service ever. After being ignored for 10 minutes I went to service desk and politely ask if he was available? He then gave me a smart remark saying well I am here until 6 PM. I wanted to let him know how rude he was I decided to be the better person. He finally called someone to help me, but they made me feel like I was an annoyance and clearly didn't care for my business. read more

I have been coming to this store for about 7 years, just trying to support small businesses and not buy everything on Amazon. Even tho they rarely have what I need. Went to the store for the last time on Friday. Judy the manager went off at me for not wearing my mask, was rude about it. No one was near me 6ft. I tried explaining to her my position, and how I feel. She clearly didn't give a shit. Lowes and HomeDepot don't make you wear a mask. They have everything in stock, and the prices are cheaper. After spending thousands of dollars on all my STIHL equipment and basic around the house everyday needs, I don't think I will ever go back. read more

Went in to Ace this afternoon to see if I could get some questions answered about installing a door. I understand that Ace does not sell doors. But that was not my question. It was about HOW to install and pre-hung door and if they could give me any tips. Jeff was the person I spoke to. From the very beginning of our interaction he did not seem interested in helping me what so ever. Tgis disinterest in him was as soon as he saw me and my family waiting. Did not seem to care about anything I asked. Our entire conversation lasted May be about 30 seconds before he said "this is a home depot question". I though Ace Hardware was "Your friendly neighbourhood store"! There was nothing friendly or neighborhood about that interaction. Rudest ace customer service ever. Went in last night looking for a Christmas tree stand, for a small living tree. We asked the lady manning the tegistwr whrre they might be, and she waved us in the general direction of the holiday/seasonal section. She was kind of grumpy about it. They had one, and I mean a single stand, that was $60 and it was for bigger trees in the 9ft range. Ours is half that size. When we finally tracked down anotger ACE employee to see if they might have any other stands, as we were not inclined to ask the grumpy cashier, he led us back to the single tree stand they had. When we mentioned the one from the website that was about $18 he seemed offended that we would even bring such a thing up. On top of that when asked if he knew where another ACE was, he seemed reluctant to even offer up the adresses, until my husband asked him again. We left with out purchasing anything, and we certainly won't be back. The one on Evergreen has much friendly employees who actually seem happy to help you. read more

I have been going to this Ace Hardware since Judith and her husband owned it, but since the sell the customer service has gone downhill. I took in 2 weedwackers, both needed new line and one needed a battery. I have a very hard time loading the line because of health issues. So the employee couldn't find the battery, which is fine, but instead of offering to order one he told me to go buy one online. Then he told me he never used a weedwackers and he doesn't know how to put on the line, so he would go get help, weird but fine. He came back 5 minutes later and said " our manager said we don't do that". Goodbye Ace Hardware I will be buying my weedwackers and accessories online and YouTube how to. Girl meets hardware store with no idea where to look - yeah, I'm not unlike most females who likely don't frequent the hardware store on a regular basis. We just moved into a brand new house, and for some reason there is a shit ton of sugar ants waddling throughout our kitchen pantry floor - gross. I still can't determine the culprit, as there is no spillage, but I read online that Terro ant bait is the shiznit and will kill the colony when the worker ants return to share the bait they found. Score! My local Ace Hardware had the bait - though I looked stupidly for it in Aisle 10 for 5 minutes (despite directions from the friendly cashiers), until another friendly Ace Hardware associate asked if I needed help. It was as though he was the lightbulb going off in my head at that very minute, because suddenly I found the ant bait aka liquid gold. I was in an out in just over 5 minutes and no shortage of people to offer their assistance. I can't speak to their prices and whether they are good or not, but given the proximity to my home and the fact that you CAN actually find someone to help you (in fact, they offer before you even have to look for help), I'll definitely go back should I need anything. Note: The parking lot is somewhat of a nightmare around 5pm when all the gym rats are hitting up 24 Hour Fitness after work. You've been warned. read more

Today 4-17-20, I drove to Ace Hardware to this location to buy a hole saw.. Before coming I checked the hours on Yelp and said that the store opens at 8 am. When I arrived at around 8:40 at the store, there was a store employee outside setting things up.. He said to me, before I can read any signs that they had put out, "we are not open yet till 9:00 but you can come in." I was like great!! After I found what I needed, I walked towards another employee and asked her where I can pay for the item since no one is at the register.. She sighed and walked towards the register and said to me, " we are not even open yet." I told her your co-worker who was outside told me I could come in, and I was tying to explain to her that yelp said it opens at 8 thats why I was early.. She said "WELL THERE IS A BIG ASS SIGN RIGHT OUT THERE." Thats right folks she use the word ASS in her sentence. Lady, like I can see the sign from my house. So, I would have waited in my car when I did see the sign, if the other person did not tell me to come in. Obviously she had an attitude right from the beginning, taking it out on me instead of her co-worker who let me in. I never had this treatment at Ace Hardware before, maybe I was being discriminated, because I look asian but not chinese, emits from this corona virus . I love this store. Like some here, I DO wish that all the employees would mask up during this pandemic. But it's the same at Lowes, they also are letting their employees decide on my safety, but that's what happens when our political administrators can't decide on a clear message to keep our citizens safe and they don't believe in science or data. - I WILL NEVER SHOP AT LOWES AGAIN due to how cheap their are with staffing checkers. There's always a huge line at checkout with usually only the electronic checkout lane open. Way to not support the community, Lowes. Ace kicks the absolute cr*p out of Lowes' customer service. They did years ago and they still do. Ace employees are almost always friendly and always knowledgeable. Granted, they are a small store, but they nearly always have what I'm looking for. It's pretty rare when they don't. They can special order things, but that is always a long process and I'm a doer who doesn't wanna wait around 3 weeks for a screw. If Ace doesn't have it, Amazon'll have it at my house in a few days. I wish they opened as early as some others cuz I'm a morning guy. I would like to offer that the Ace Hardware store at Silver Lake provides old fashioned customer service - but it is actually much better than that. They have provided me with great help that ranges from auto key duplication, putting together plumbing parts for a utility sink drain, recommending (and having in stock) a ferrule puller to use on replacing old piping, and refurbishing a motor on a bathroom fan. These folks are just flat out very helpful when you walk in the store. Highly recommend! read more

I live near-by and have been going to this store since it opened. When I need the common things for a home or yard this has been great. The parking is at the front door or just beyond and I can actually talk to staff right away. I am usually in and out in just a few minutes and don't have to walk around a big box store or negotiate a big parking lot in bad weather. I have purchased sink hardware, a disposal, lawn fertilizer, paint/stain and many different other things that keep my house running. I especially appreciate the nuts, bolts & nail section. This is always my first stop. Service is almost always better than ANY other retail store I go to. Best I've been in. Terrific store, better than the big boxes, Lowes and HD. We went July 6 because my wife has a church friend there-it's 20 miles from our home. The people are great, tremendous selection, easy to shop, prices are fair and competitive. Every employee knew where everything was. The cashier helped me get my Ace Rewards # from my home store in Renton, so I could get rewards credit for my $400+ purchase. And, they have good coffee and popcorn. Ordered 2 LP hot water heaters, but Ace just did not deliver. Didn't have the right units in their warehouse but shipped them to the store anyway, then called me to come pick them up knowing they weren't right. My wife and granddaughter without hot water for 4 days, and Ace Hardware folks don't know the difference between an LP and Natural Gas hot water heater. One star for the store calling with a feeble apology. Maybe you should just sell some screwdrivers........hard to mess that up. read more
